    Genuine: Doesen't Judge People For Doing Something Because They Do It As Well.
    Hypocritical: Judges Someone For Doing Something But Does It Themselves.

    1:10, the only caveat is if the person you are talking about behind their back refuses and actively punishes any attempt at giving them a straight reply about what you think... then you really don’t have a choice but vent to someone else to relieve the stress of someone who actively try’s to bend the rules of reality and those around it to their way of thinking.
    It especially sucks when you actively try to be civil and have a dialogue but they throw such a tantrum that *YOU* get in trouble and punished.

    I know a guy from work; let's call him Scott. He's a college man l find immature, kind of obnoxious, and sometimes tactless. I think he just like to kid around, but it's not always so obvious to me. For example, he once mentioned a coworker's sagging belly, face-to-face. I don't _think_ said coworker resented that, but in general, you _have_ to be careful with weight jokes. He was the same coworker Scott snuck up behind and poked in the waists. I don't think the worker minds him, but I would personally. He dissed my hair a couple of times, though I will admit the 1st time his girlfriend said he was just having fun with me. Still, I guess I officially decided he's nothing more than a jack@ss, who pretty much has no feelings; the more you clown around, the harder you can be taken seriously. That's why I told him to _"put a sock in your @ss...I mean your mouth."_ See, I was about to tell a coworker something when Scott interrupted me, I think with some clownish comment or joke. I can't remember. It wasn't a _casual or natural_ interruption; otherwise I wouldn't have faulted him. I guess I was annoyed with the _way_ he interrupted me, and because I'd already decided he's the unlikeable type. I would've thought he wouldn't care about my sass--given the natural point of view that immature guys don't have fragile feelings--but he said something about how I should be careful how I speak to people. Maybe _certain_ people? He's _ironically_ a student leader. I can't remember his response so well, but either way, he vaguely showed he didn't care for my words. I wasn't 100% sure though, because his type don't make it obvious whether they're being serious or not. In the end, I said, _"Hey, I'm sorry for saying [said quote]."_ From what I remember, he replied, _"You're good man_ [which made me feel good]. _You just need to learn how to speak to people"_ [which _immediately_ made me feel bad and _swiftly_ ended my one-second good feeling]. I don't appreciate his adding the "learn how to speak to people" thing, because that's like saying "I forgive you for being a thoughtless jerk." You shouldn't add a negative truth to an apology acceptance, because otherwise, it defeats its own purpose. Plus, I think his remark was hypocritical; yes, I have a problem with filter, but duh, he does too. I think it's better I just don't talk to him at all. No interaction, no conflict, no jokes, no nothing.

  • @leannestrong1000
    @leannestrong1000 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    No. Hypocrisy means that you do one thing, but you tell others to do the opposite. For example, imagine a person whose diet is high in saturated fats, simple carbohydrates, refined sugar, artificial ingredients, or other unhealthy substances, and they have no intention of trying to healthier. But that very same person tells someone else to eat healthier.
    Here is another example. Imagine a person who very seldom exercises, and has no intention of trying to do so more often. However, that person tells other people that they need to exercise more often.
    A third example is when an adult tells a child that they are being selfish, lazy, bratty, naughty, rude, among other things, just because the child was trying to put their own needs or wants first. However, it is perfectly acceptable for adults to put their own needs or wants first. If a child insists on eating cookies, rather than what is being offered, or will not play a game because it is boring, they are told that they are being bratty, selfish, or other words with negative connotations. But it is perfectly OK if an adult tells a child, "I can't play with you right now, because I have to make dinner, maybe after dinner." Or, "I don't feel like watching a movie right now, because I am kind of tired." Now, I realize that this is probably because adults are usually (but not always) better able to judge when to put their own needs first, and when to put other people's needs first, but that is mainly because I am an adult myself, and I have the mentality of an adult (for the most part). From a child's perspective, however, this completely goes against the adult's stated values. Now, I am not saying that adults should always behave according to their stated values, but they should at least try to practice what they preach, and only behave in ways that are in contrast with stated values when ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. They should also at least try to explain to children why their actions were in conflict with their stated value system.
    A fourth example is when adults tell children to use "I" statements instead of "you" statements, but the adults themselves use "you" statements when talking to children. Instead of saying something like, "Jimmy, you are being selfish," that adult can try saying something like, "Jimmy, I feel very sad when I see someone take a lot of cookies, and not leave enough for everyone else." Or instead of saying, "Susie, you are being bratty," the adult can say something like, "Susie, I try to consider your ideas, so I would like you to consider mine."
    A fifth example is when adults say things like, 'Tommy, it's not fair that you get more cupcakes than your sister does," or, "Jane, I'm not going to allow you to do this, because it's not fair to your classmates." However, the adults themselves are allowed (and maybe even encouraged) to treat each child differently. Letting some children off easy while others are reprimanded more seriously for similar (or even less serious) infractions. Jessica burps in class one time, and is only told off for it, but Kyle burps in class one time, and receives a detention. Kelsey is allowed to watch TV in the living room while Brian is doing his homework, but Brian is not allowed to watch TV in the living room while Kelsey is doing her homework. Twelve year old Jason is allowed to hang out at the mall without an adult, but his older sister, Claire was not allowed to do this when she was his age (even if she went with a friend). Again, I realize that adults are usually (but not always) better able to judge when to treat certain people differently than children are, but to a child, this is in total contrast with the adult's stated values.
    Now, sometimes we do something, and then we later realize that maybe we shouldn't have done it. In this case, it is OK to tell others to do the opposite, because we want to spare them the experiences we had, and the feelings we felt after the fact. However, we may have more credence if we tell the other person about our own experiences, and the thoughts and feelings we had afterward, so that they can understand why our words are in contrast with our past actions.

      I know this was 6 months ago but holy crap I'd like to discuss this. I can totally understand what you mean in last paragraph. I tell people not to do certain things I did years ago and if I didn't go into detail why I'm against it, than I'm sure they'd think I'm a hypocrite....
      Hypocrite is a word I've been looking.....to describe so many people who in the middle of an argument told me about something they actually are or worse than I am if I am what they called me('grow up' , weird, annoying, immature, take it personally/sensitive, etc). I thought it was projecting? people I had

But I’m mostly open, my brother also used to keep a lot of promises but didn’t fulfill, he’s changed now(or maybe I’ve changed, I don’t trust him with much these days). My mom I can’t currently think of anything wrong she does. My mom generally only acts bad when she’s physically or mentally exhausted or hurt. Me, my brother and mom agree that my father is a hypocrite. Idk why but she still defends him.

    you are describing mostly narcisists and machiavels, actualy even genuine people have some level of hipocrisy, everyone has, me, you.. etc.We all tend to judge others, we don't understand others but we want us to be understood, we mostly see us in others, we say things we don't do, we tend to hate a group of people and if we have the "hero complex" well we will hate the ones that hate minorities, because we can't help but chose someone to blame and be our enemy, whether if it's a lesbian, black, racist or machivelic, victim or criminal, we will chose to hate someone forgeting that if we would have to be born in the same exact circumstances as them with the same body and brain, and experiences like them, we would act like them. But this is obvious, our bodies are traced from the animals of this planet, egotistical beings, bound to their nature and nurture. No mather how different is each conscious self-identity we are mathemathicaly predestined to be hipocrites at some level...
