My favourites are 1-3 and 3-2 and maybe 4-1

As soon as you said you weren't going to rank the four boss zones I immediately thought, "well then you should just rank them against each other real quick". And what did you do you glorious bastard? You ranked them against each other real quick. Thank you for delivering in a timely manner.
I knew people would ask, so I figured I'd nip that in the bud real quick.
A complement for my least favourite level? Hmmmmm
5-2 Swamp of Sorrow: Setting/atmosphere is pretty cool, 100% agree about the sight of the settlement.
These aren't complements but:
- At least you can sneak past all of the Giant Depraved Ones (as much as I normally prefer to slay and collect everything).
- At least the Sodden Ring exists in the remake, allowing you to move/roll as normal in the swamp.
- At least it has a shortcut skipping the entire swamp in case your controller stops working while fighting Dirty Colossus.
The only good thing that I can say about 5-2 is that I was able to get through the main path quickly
It's not as bad as people make it out to be. It's not "great", but like... Lake of Rot & Farron Keep exist, so.
one of the things i adore most about demons souls and dark souls 1 that i feel is lost a bit in newer souls games is the weird quirky sense of humor they had. following the fat official through the boletarian palace running into all of his looney toons traps, just for him to get absolutely decimated by penetrator is unrivaled. you’ve just made it through the prison of latria and you can see the sky again! nope, big ass arrow sarcophagus, go back inside. garl vinland just chillin in a pile of corpses like it’s a sofa. in ds1, the female undead merchant’s rant when you inevitably accidentally hit her is one of the funniest things i think i’ve ever seen in a game. it’s there in traces in the newer souls games, but nothing quite like demons souls. except patches. patches is eternal
Right! Even back in King's Field, FromSoft had this sense of humour where they were totally okay with trolling the player, or just subverting expectations in a way that the current games don't have as much of. It's still there of course, but something about OG Demon's Souls & OG Dark Souls feels so vastly different from the rest of the series, and you've hit the nail on the head.
I have never rage quit against a souls boss ever. Not Malenia, not Manus, not Isshin or the Demon of Hatred. And yet I set down the controller and turned off the ps5 after getting 2shot by the bozos in 5-2 for the 10th time
I’ve put down my controller and quit for the day a couple times in this game, not bc it was hard, but bc some of the areas or run backs were simply just annoying
I love the Nexus, it's huge but still feels cosy in a way open-air hubs like DS1 Firelink and Majula don't. I always think "but what if it starts raining".
I wish it would rain, I love the rain. Give me a storm-swept Majula after collecting the four lord souls. FromSoft hire me
@@BillySYT I was never able to get through DS2 (dropped the game in the middle of Forest of Fallen Giants, then played DS1 and fell in love), but I _need_ storm swept Majula. Just imagine different music, a dark and stormy environ, and seeing lightning strikes out in that ocean. I adore when the end of a game really feels like the end, a feeling that the music swap in the nexus did, a feeling I got when Sekiro shifted to nighttime and had the war torn version of the first area, seeing the desolate but beautiful Kiln of the First Flame in Dark Souls, when Elden Ring blanketed the capital in ash, in Talos Principle's DLC when the hub gets engulfed in storm, and in God of War 2 as the home of the Sisters of Fate gets ever larger in your view and you hit the end of the world with only that location before you.
I actually fully agree with your ranking of 5-1! The enemies are solid and genuinely stressful in a fun way. The platforms and level design remind me a lot of Blighttown’s level design, which is another favorite of mine. The atmosphere is great and overall it’s not nearly as awful as everyone makes it out to be.

I agree that 5-1 is actually quite good. Its the runback to Leechmonger that drives you insane though lol

Every time I think of replaying demon souls the thought of going through 5-2 puts an end to it right away. Not even the moonlight greatsword can persuade me to into that scest pool.

I just saw ur subscriber count and ur way less popular than I had thought. Honestly ur videos are such a a breath of fresh among these other soulsborne TH-camrs who all have the same copypaste personalities and copypaste opinions regurgitated in ever video. It’s just refreshing seeing new perspectives in these kinds of videos. Like when you rated Darkroot Garden as #1 DS1 area in another video when I was fully expecting you to say Anor Londo like everyone else. Super enjoyable content I’m sure you’ll get real big in no time
Thanks so much! I just like sharing my personal opinions because that's what makes these types of videos unique, and it gets people talking. Plus it's cool getting to see all these different perspectives in the comments and being like "Oh, I see your point even if I can't relate."
I'd be fine with swamp of sorrow with one single change.
Round up the dry ground instead of rounding down.
Too often you're just barely clipping the edge of the water and it already decides that's hindering so when you try to roll thinking you're on solid ground you get the huge stagger animation.
If one foot is squarely on dry ground you should get to roll.
I had a similar black world tendency experience in 4-2 and GOD Damn I will never forget the struggle through that area!
In my original playthrough, 3-1 was the only level I played through multiple times ON PURPOSE.
Such a great level.
As I said in the video, I just love that it feels like an entirely different game - Collecting keys, dealing with all the horror imagery, it really is a slice of survival horror placed into this medieval fantasy game. Right up my alley, wish they'd do more of this.

Now I do love the prison of hope, and though it isn't quite as atmospheric I thought irithyll dungeon in ds3 was a bit of a successor
It is a successor, I just think it fails at doing what made Prison of Hope so special in the first place.

To be honest, I didn't quite like 3-1 - the gimmick was enjoyable, but I went there first and these fricking cthulhu guards made me want to throw my controller out the window 👍 (and also Fool's Idol took me an embarassingly big amount of tries)
My favourite level was actually 2-1 :>

I think whether you enjoy 3-1 purely comes down to how you handle the guards. I've played enough souls games to where I don't find myself threatened by them from a gameplay perspective, so it allowed me to enjoy the ambience more. But dying in any area is enough to cause problems, it's the whole reason I think 4-2 is utter garbage.
The poison isnt a big deal, its the fact that you cant roll in the swamp that sucks

It was super surreal when you talked in Spanish because I understood what you said but it didn’t register that it was a different language
My bf is Spanish, so I like to chuck a few spanish words in the scripts to surprise him when he watches lol

Question what does pure white/black tendency mean ??
I'll be covering the mechanic in next week's video, but the tldr is in Demon's Souls, there's a system called World Tendency. Depending on specific actions you can take in each world, you shift closer to white tendency or black tendency & the pure white/black tendency refers to the furthest you can go in each direction.
It's basically a morality system. If you kill bosses, you move your world closer to white tendency, while if you die in body form, kill NPCs, etc, you move your world closer to black tendency, and special events can happen depending on which variation you're in.
