We can all agree on one thing: seeing Murphy lobotomized and chief hugging him was deeply sad
Especially since he was so happy to see him, knowing/thinking mac waiting for him
I was loving the movie than Murphy appeared like that and then chief kills him....I was like “No! NO!!! NOOOOO!!!! I hate this movie”
Seeing mcmurphy like that made me so sad. I rly thought it was gonna have a happy ending
Baby Doll Me too
No you will tell me water is wet
Here's an esoteric train of thought...
Billy Bibbit is played by Brad Dourif, who also played the character Piter de Vries in the 1984 movie "Dune."
Why bring this up? Because Piter de Vries looks like the host of this show, Garyx Wormuloid. Are they long lost brothers??
@Wisecrack Can you do Dune next? I have to see that joke.
What a horse. What a horse.
Analysis of 1988 They Live, please Garyx Wormuloid.
ENTER THE VOID next
Wow, that would be awesome.
Moral of the story: don't party until after you escape
Or does it inquire that maybe he actually cared? Or maybe that this is the first time he felt at home and had real family?
He didn’t give 2 shits lol mcmurpgy was a savage and actually loved all those crazies what an elite cast this movie brought t9 our entertainment
He actually did care once he got to know them
"You live by the party you die by the party."
or
"We are all crazy and none of us are crazy."
Or maybe leave the party when you have time and never get caught by cops
"And tries to hug Nurse Ratched's neck to death."
Yes, he sure did.
The actress ends up playing an actual religious authoritarian in Star Trek DS9. Disguising herself behind the veneer of moral purity to hide her corrupt lust for power, conceded self importance, and oppressive dogmatism. Even fooling herself into believing that she's not the true villain of the series who's even more hated than Gul Dukat.
If I was there in that ward I would give my everything to kill her
He mean strangle
@@noskills6251 You can't kill her, that's the point of the movie. If she was human McMurphy would have popped her head right off her neck when he tries to hug her. She's a 7'3" shapeshifting lizard who's eaten all the illuminati see.
No need to thank me, I know I have the patience of Buddha.
Interesting how Jack Nicholson has the same amount of hair in this movie as he did 30 years later in The Departed.
He's been balding since high school yet still isn't bald
@@harleyzeth Forever bald :))
I like when Randle finds out "Chief" Bromden can really speak.
His excuse for not speaking was no one ever spoke to him.
i think you're confusing this with a joke from the simpsons
@@julesjordenshier th-cam.com/video/mzm9Ck8cHSs/w-d-xo.html
"And shamelessly plagiarizes his escape plan."
I'm dying.
Dude you should do eternal sunshine of the spotless mind
Love that movie
yes!!
So do I.
Where is our eternal sunshine wisecrack vid
George W Kush true the only movie I walked out on lol
Fun Fact: Brad Dourif who played as Billy Bibbit is the voice actor of Chucky, the killer doll
margareth michelina He is also a mentat.
He's also Grima Wormtongue
Dude chucky scared the shit out of me
that's brad???? he's such a baby in that film
The only movie that brad dorif doesn’t look like a fucking weirdo. He actually looks good in this movie
This film was on the cinemas for 10 years in Sweden.
It is really a masterpiece.
Holds up great today, feels pretty modern as if it were filmed in the 2000s but with an old camera
Great film
I always thought you Swedes had good taste.
"…and that emotion is 'Ouch'" - I laughed out loud.
+Sonny Williamson really not that funny
+Sonny Williamson really not that funny
+ReactedDesert humour is relative to each Individual......
thanks to you now I laugh when hearing that sentence hahahaha
Best part of the whole movie was a prequel to Toal Recall being outside Mars without a helmet lol! Yessss! Patrick Stewart Approved Warp 9 bitchez!
mmm, juicy fruit
Daniel Wagner haha
Ahh, juicy fruit.
I think something he missed at the end there, though he touched on it a touch with the mention of them gambling, is that the patients are more free than before because McMurphy took away the source of Ratched's power: her voice. Notice how she's almost more docile in the end. She's less authoritative and thus the patients don't take her quite as seriously.
1:55 Baby HORSE? I laughed a little too hard on that one.
Ikr. Even though he calls all animals horses I laugh everytime.
Me, too! Now I won't ever be able to look at a squirrel without thinking "baby horse"!
......a little baby pigeon.....
They also censor any footage of eating, I don't know why
not funny at all
Ratchet also shows emotion when he unexpectedly calls her by her first name, Mildred (and not Miss Ratchet). Apparently this incident was not scripted and her blushing was completely spontaneous.
@El Barbero Ratchet wanted some McMurphy PeePee
Jar Jar Binks is your son? You must be so proud.
He's a good kid.
Said no one ever.
***** No wonder he makes sure he is never home for kids.
+Kenny Ortiz I would think that a more advanced alien race would do the right thing and euthanize a defective offspring though?
Rachael Lefler
I think power rangers time force explored something like that.
No really. All the babies were made perfect, and those who werent were sent to the baby pit like the spartans.
The villain is actually one of the survivors of those kids.
... is it possible to make a sugerence to the guys that make "the philosophy of..."?
would be realy awesome if you could do Donnie Darko.
Brilliant suggestion!
With this episode, I think 'Earthling Cinema' has finally found its beat. The editing style, the gags, the analysis - it all feels together and right. I can't really explain it, but keep building on what you're doing here - you've got something that can meet the promise of 'Thug Notes.'
I really like the more in-depth analyses of motifs, symbols, etc. than just the story and the obvious. Last episode was already better than the first few, I like this one even more.
+SirCamera I think I disagree. To me the sheer quantity of the pasted-in pictures and sound clips felt a bit too... I don't know what word to use... "slapsticky"? It undermines the deadpan style of the show. Luckily, the next one is better
Comparing the two Episodes for Cuckoo's Nest, Thug Notes is definitely superior to Earthling Cinema
This movie is nooow aaavailableee toooo watch here => twitter.com/3812ba2034e26a8c4/status/850528984865439745
Really enjoying this series so far. I'd like to see Old Boy get this treatment.
Maybe next week ;)
Wisecrack HYPE
Wisecrack
Old Boy would be amazing!
Wisecrack Better be the original Korean version! :)
Wisecrack Oh, god, please! Do Old Boy and please do the original version! Please!

Shit, looks like I can't subscribe.
Polyester Homes I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal labotemy
What's "hidden" about this? You've just summarized the movie.
Yup…
Do Grave of the Fireflies
great idea
No. Don't remind me of that movie.
Ivan Ilyich So depressing
I literally cry every time I finish reading the book. Anybody that loves the movie should definitely read the book.
Read the book and just watched the movie. The movie leaves out a lot. Those fucking fog machines
I haven't read the book in over 10 years, but I remember being completely, shit, I can't find the word, but the book is different, but so damn good.
THE BREAKFAST CLUB PLEASE
Great idea
Native American warriors had a belief that when one man killed another in Battle, the dead mans soul would be absorbed into his killer.
When the film starts, Chief has no soul but Mcmurphy gives him some of his. When the film ends. mcmurphy nas nothing but a soul (his mind and body are dead) so Chief takes his soul and sets it free, along with himself.
Absolute poetry.
One of my all-time favorite movies. Bless you for doing this one, Wisecrack.
It shocks me to this day that nobody has even mentioned or noticed that the film is actually an allegory for the story of Jesus Christ. The film is packed with biblical references.
When the film starts the time of day is early morning which represents darkness before Randle, whom represents Jesus enters our world.
All the patients in the hospital represent the citizens of Roman occupied Palestine. The board of doctors represent the Jewish clergy that look over the spiritual welfare of the patients/citizens and nurse Ratchet plays the part of Pontius Pilot, you'll notice all of her guards are all black men, which signifies the ethic difference the Roman soldiers would have had to the Jewish citizens.
There's many small cues you'll notice that are biblical references. When Randle is brought before the main doctor to explain why he is there, it's mentioned that he had intercourse with an underage child, this isn't calling Jesus Christ a molester, but its instead alluding to the fact that Randle, like Jesus, has entered into our world through a connection with a virgin. Randle then, as a prophecy of future events, picks up his photo of a fish, admiring how big the catch was, a nod to the feeding of the 5000, later on Randle fulfills this biblical miracle by taking all the patients on a boat trip in which they come back with fish in plenty (Dr Spivey only had one, Randle made many). As for Dr Spivey, as an interesting fact, during ww2 a "Spiv" was british slang for a criminal that dealt in the black market and other illicit activity, this is an indication to the corruption of the Jewish clergy at the time which Jesus pointed out and the tax collecting on their own people on behalf of the Romans.
Are you convinced yet?...its gets more interesting.
All the patients in the hospital take their medication, which is all the citizens following old testament laws, Randle however spits the medication out, because he has something new to offer, which is the new testament.
In the toilets Randle is sick of listening to the way the citizens are acting like morons in their old ways and he splashes them with water to baptise them.
Then when Randle wants to watch the baseball game, Ratchet imposes her authority and doesn't allow the game to be watched. So Randle performs the miracle of curing the blind like Jesus Christ did. He goes up to a blank TV and starts commenting on the match and by magic all of the patients can "see where once they couldn't see before" and watched the match with him, Nurse Ratchet looks on in fear because she has now just see a miracle, just like Pontius Pilot and the Romans started to worry about Jesus Christ as a rebel maker.
When Randle is ready to leave for Canada (which is a humourous metaphor for heaven), he hosts a massive party which reflects the last supper, here Billy represents Judas, all of the other patients, which by this time are Randle's disciples ignore Randle and make no effort to defend him lest they feel the consequences of Ratchet and her Romans, Billy however betrays Randle and confesses his role in causing chaos in occupied Palestine/hospital. A betrayal that actually leads to the death/lobotomy of our hero and saviour.
Big Chief, then shows his love for Randle for setting him free and Randle returns to heaven. Randle then takes the water fountain that Randle used for baptism and smashes his way out of the hospital which now represents Christianity smashing the old way and setting you free, all of the patients now wake up in shock at what's just happened, the final scene is Chief running into the cruel cold darkness of the world, Randle as his warmth like the early apostles went into the world to spread the gospel, Jesus Christ as their warmth.
How?
@@vladutmarica3765 He's right there's biblical metaphors throughout the entire book & film.
The water fountain represents Noah's Ark. The Chief presages his escape when he sees Randall plan to go to a bar to watch the game. He realises Randall was simply not strong enough. Later in the final scene he causes a major flood in the washroom and uses the fountain to escape the oppressive environment and go back to nature. It's his ark. The others will eventually follow him to salvation, but in their own way in due time.
Murphy essentially acts as the Messiah of the story, arriving from the outside world to instill a spirit of freedom in the group and challenge the authorities. They want to believe he escaped.
Not sure if I like the editing in this one. The graphics and sound effects didn't do it for me. I prefered it when the humor came from Garyx Wormuloid and Garyx Wormuloid only.
Yes this one wasn't so good. Some cheap laughs rather than the intelligent ones in the 2001 review.
elf boy
No I take it back; it is still good. makes more please.
I want to subscribe, but I don't want a lobotomy. Then again I do like corn beef hash...
What about his resistence to the established, his love for freedom. His appreciation for love, friendship and the achievement of beeing who you really want to be as well as the courage to get it. Of course the most invasive and destructive imposer of the system, the head nurse, as insignificant and evil as all.of her kind, at the end, destroys that wich can't understand!
Great disturbing fun movie!
Not a huge fan of this series.
I get what you're trying to do (An outsider view of cinema...Obviously), but it just seems like a juvenile high school attempt at being funny with some sort of humanoid Alf with large eyebrows.
The content is great, don't get me wrong, and yes, it is spot on in synopsis and analysis; but the humour is just...Dull.
However, this is just a humble opinion, but with that, this is a dog shit attempt that wreaks of an amateur film study project, and I know better can be done.
That being said; Wisecrack is the best thing to happen to educational entertainment in a long while, and I know you're going to succeed!
Is it just me, or are his eyebrows getting bigger with every episode?
How about Adaptation from Kaufman or the Truman Show?
Both great!
I love Adaptation... every critic and wannabe screenwriter should watch that one
Go big. Citizen Kane. The story of a man that dies in the first scene, becoming thus unstuck in time where he has a Tralfamadorian experience of his life. Also, sleds.
omg, this comment made my morning. xD
Lunacyrabbit
so it goes
Sean Mugan Nah, you pretty much covered it already. No need to overdo it.
In more simple words plz?
I love this fucking movie. It tackles deep philosophical questions (What is crazy? Why can't I X? Where does authority come from? What is the point?) without ever feeling preachy and packs an incredible emotional punch... I should probably read the book.
Hm, I didn't think about the pills being like communion
Yea that was a nice subliminal i didnt catch either
To make people really uneasy, please do "Salo, Or The 120 Days Of Sodom".
It's amazing.
that movie is fucked up
Nom Deplume thats a nice one . a good fresh representation of mankind
Nom Deplume Or "The holy mountain".
The pretty good Gatsby don't watch that movie high
The "hidden meaning" is only hidden if you are blind or very stupid.
"Baby Horse" may be the funniest thing ever, Just may be. Great work!
Do Apocalypse Now! please:)
Can you do Cloud Atlas ? :)
"That emotion is ouch" xD
It'd be rad if you guys would do an analysis on The Big Lebowski. Or any Coen film for that matter!
Fargooo
You used Heath Ledger’s crappy Joker. You do realize Jack Nicholson himself played the superior Joker you could have used?
Truly patronising vid. Like we don't understand what the movie is about. Didn't see anything hidden explained here.
Wtf is this? Somebody who knows and understand nothing, pretending some deeper view, come on...
Awesome analysis! There are things I have spotted in that movie but I never figured out about the fountain representing the establishment. McMurphy throwing some water from that fountain on a Monopoly game. What a coincidence! Also did you notice one of the female nurse whose working there... The south american small woman. She almost never talks. She's a kind of minion ghoul working under the totalitarian control of Miss Rachel. Same as all her afro american coworkers.
I did notice that it was more Black working in the ward than the other. I figured it was to hire more Black actors.
Can you do Animal House?
TOGA TOGA TOGA TOGA TOGA TOGA TOGA TOGA
Please tone down your gags. You went overboard on this one. The concept is amusing itself and provides sufficient humor while allowing an interesting outsiders perspective on cinema. It doesn't need a bunch of quick edits and memes and lolrandom shit thrown in.
Thug Notes strikes the right balance between cute and classy. Try to emulate it.
Seifersythe Don't have a baby horse man!
Taste has no account, my man. A lot of us found it pretty amusing, too.
DO SPIRITED AWAY
You lost me at the one flew over the…..too woke perspective. It’s one flew over the cuckoo’s nest.
Such a beautiful and well thought out movie, you'd never get movies like this now
That's not a baby horse you fool!
That's a giant ant
@David _:
I thought it was a giant rat stuck up there.
I've heard of a particular earthling documentary film about the humans' encounter with a charity event held by the chulians when they were on that educating lesser developed species kick. I believe it's called independence day? Perhaps you'd be willing to direct a review of it to all of us who lack the means to acquire and view this artifact.
No offense.... but one of your kids I just don't like. The other one needs to go home though.
drive 2011 please
I'm so glad that my English teacher showed me this movie.
What a silly waste of one minute listening to your regurgitated waffle.
Cloud Atlas would make for a rather amusing analysis.
Am I the only one who sees Chief Bromden as the title character.... In old english to "Fly" meant to Escape something, plus it's an American Indian name.
The Chief escaped, he literally "flew the nest" and he's American Indian. He was ultimately the title character of the film.
i see nurse ratched as the protagonist and mcmurphy as the antagonist... great thing about this film is you can take so many different meanings from it
Wisecrack Could you do an episode about Star Wars or Star Trek?
@Wisecrack:
Name said: "Could you do an episode about Star Wars or Star Trek?"
Or both? Preferably both, but not both in the same episode, yeah.
Meanwhile, great web-shows, Thug Notes and Earthling Cinema, some of the best stuff on TH-cam right now. Keep up the great works, you guys hehehehehe
Uncle Ken wasted his life's time creatin bad karma like this.
Not a fan of his comedic analysis of films when theres important meaning behind them.
2:56 you are completely wrong here. If someone asks why then I will answer it otherwise I will tell why i will be back and write my reasons why u are wrong
I think he was just making a joke, since he appears on one of the squares.
Do Prometheus nobody can do it.
@David:
_Prometheus_ , despite being helmed by Ridley Scott and the casting of Charlize Theron and Michael Fassbender and nearly all of the entire look of the film (VFX, set-design, costumes, almost everything), is a horrible incoherent mess at the level of _Star Wars_-prequel bad.

I tip my hat to the producers and writers. I really enjoyed this. very funny. made me laugh out loud. the alien seems to not understand us, and yet, somehow, at the same time, he does.
This one still pretty new but Snow Piercer would be cool
I clicked the subscribe button, and I'm still waiting on my lobotomy. When can I expect to have my prefrontal lobe replaced with corned beef hash?
I lost it at the baby horse part.
Please do The Big Lebowski next.
What's the status on the thugnotes book?
Any chance for a release before Christmas ?
I'm almost done with the first draft, but it won't be out until probably mid-2015
Right on
Stating the obvious, but I always loved the misdirection of the plot v the title: for almost the entire movie one believes R.P. MacMurphy is the one who flew over; it is actually the chief.
In the book, Chief is the narrator, so that makes sense. Not exactly sure why they chose to make MacMurphy the main guy in the movie.
Please review Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.
Have you thought about doing Alien at some point? Pretty cool movie with some really twisted themes imo
Please do reviews for Alien, Blade Runner, Pi, Blue Velvet. That's be so cool!
Can you guys do spirited away. It's one of those animated films that is worth watching
silence of the lambs please
Do starship troopers next!
Ah yes a fellow Ramones fan
Good review but the humour of commenting didn't went well with the movie's more serious story.
The acting was awesome.
"The Kevorkian treatment" hahahahahaha
Why am I crying now...
I would love to see you do O, Brother Where Art Thou? A great movie with a ton of depth to analyze!
Do The Hulk...Yes the one with Eric Banana....Yeah well actually that movie everyone seems to hate is very interestingly filled with Freudian Shit, lots of reflections and questions about our notion of identity and self, fantasy and reality and other crap...And I actually enjoy it quite a lot.
I never understood why Mcmurphy was in a psychiatric hospital to begin with.
To me he seemed like the most compassionate and least disturbed person in the movie/book.
So I googled his diagnosis...
Surprise surprise. The guy is a Sociopath.
One flew over the my head completely.
Did you not watch the movie? He wanted to get off that work farm
American Beauty!!!
What a load of crap!
baby horses amirite
Stop it with the jokes alright LOL 😂. I'm trying to get your serious critique on this 😂............baby horse
Having 1 good show on youtube is a pretty good accomplishment. Having 3 good shows on one channel is Amazeballs!
I feel like the chief isn't real. He represents Randall's strength.
That's a VERY interesting theory. Seems to me, Chief is the ONLY sane one in the entire movie. ....Yeah, that could totally work.
Brad Douriff is as hot as hell, crazy or not. - Jacko nuts , really shudnt of become a writer and CARETAKER of OUTLOOK HOTEL(Shining).
Since Thug Notes did 'Heart of Darkness', will Earthling Cinema do 'Apocalypse Now'?
Best one yet! Bravo. Hilarious, straight to the point, informative, long! I thoroughly enjoyed it, please keep these coming!
Please do The Fountain a movie Made in 2006 starring Hugh Jackman and written and driected by Darren Aronofsky.
I cracked up when you said "shamelessly steals his escape plan" I also cracked up at "he tried hugging her neck to death"
The whole alien reviewing movies from the past idea is LAME! Three thumbs down
Would be much better if reviewed by Sparky Sweets.
