Here's an esoteric train of thought...
Billy Bibbit is played by Brad Dourif, who also played the character Piter de Vries in the 1984 movie "Dune."
Why bring this up? Because Piter de Vries looks like the host of this show, Garyx Wormuloid. Are they long lost brothers??
@Wisecrack Can you do Dune next? I have to see that joke.

The actress ends up playing an actual religious authoritarian in Star Trek DS9. Disguising herself behind the veneer of moral purity to hide her corrupt lust for power, conceded self importance, and oppressive dogmatism. Even fooling herself into believing that she's not the true villain of the series who's even more hated than Gul Dukat.

I think something he missed at the end there, though he touched on it a touch with the mention of them gambling, is that the patients are more free than before because McMurphy took away the source of Ratched's power: her voice. Notice how she's almost more docile in the end. She's less authoritative and thus the patients don't take her quite as seriously.

With this episode, I think 'Earthling Cinema' has finally found its beat. The editing style, the gags, the analysis - it all feels together and right. I can't really explain it, but keep building on what you're doing here - you've got something that can meet the promise of 'Thug Notes.'

Native American warriors had a belief that when one man killed another in Battle, the dead mans soul would be absorbed into his killer.
When the film starts, Chief has no soul but Mcmurphy gives him some of his. When the film ends. mcmurphy nas nothing but a soul (his mind and body are dead) so Chief takes his soul and sets it free, along with himself.
    Absolute poetry.

It shocks me to this day that nobody has even mentioned or noticed that the film is actually an allegory for the story of Jesus Christ. The film is packed with biblical references.
When the film starts the time of day is early morning which represents darkness before Randle, whom represents Jesus enters our world.
All the patients in the hospital represent the citizens of Roman occupied Palestine. The board of doctors represent the Jewish clergy that look over the spiritual welfare of the patients/citizens and nurse Ratchet plays the part of Pontius Pilot, you'll notice all of her guards are all black men, which signifies the ethic difference the Roman soldiers would have had to the Jewish citizens.
There's many small cues you'll notice that are biblical references. When Randle is brought before the main doctor to explain why he is there, it's mentioned that he had intercourse with an underage child, this isn't calling Jesus Christ a molester, but its instead alluding to the fact that Randle, like Jesus, has entered into our world through a connection with a virgin. Randle then, as a prophecy of future events, picks up his photo of a fish, admiring how big the catch was, a nod to the feeding of the 5000, later on Randle fulfills this biblical miracle by taking all the patients on a boat trip in which they come back with fish in plenty (Dr Spivey only had one, Randle made many). As for Dr Spivey, as an interesting fact, during ww2 a "Spiv" was british slang for a criminal that dealt in the black market and other illicit activity, this is an indication to the corruption of the Jewish clergy at the time which Jesus pointed out and the tax collecting on their own people on behalf of the Romans.
Are you convinced yet?...its gets more interesting.
All the patients in the hospital take their medication, which is all the citizens following old testament laws, Randle however spits the medication out, because he has something new to offer, which is the new testament.
In the toilets Randle is sick of listening to the way the citizens are acting like morons in their old ways and he splashes them with water to baptise them.
Then when Randle wants to watch the baseball game, Ratchet imposes her authority and doesn't allow the game to be watched. So Randle performs the miracle of curing the blind like Jesus Christ did. He goes up to a blank TV and starts commenting on the match and by magic all of the patients can "see where once they couldn't see before" and watched the match with him, Nurse Ratchet looks on in fear because she has now just see a miracle, just like Pontius Pilot and the Romans started to worry about Jesus Christ as a rebel maker.
When Randle is ready to leave for Canada (which is a humourous metaphor for heaven), he hosts a massive party which reflects the last supper, here Billy represents Judas, all of the other patients, which by this time are Randle's disciples ignore Randle and make no effort to defend him lest they feel the consequences of Ratchet and her Romans, Billy however betrays Randle and confesses his role in causing chaos in occupied Palestine/hospital. A betrayal that actually leads to the death/lobotomy of our hero and saviour.
Big Chief, then shows his love for Randle for setting him free and Randle returns to heaven. Randle then takes the water fountain that Randle used for baptism and smashes his way out of the hospital which now represents Christianity smashing the old way and setting you free, all of the patients now wake up in shock at what's just happened, the final scene is Chief running into the cruel cold darkness of the world, Randle as his warmth like the early apostles went into the world to spread the gospel, Jesus Christ as their warmth.

      How?

    • @colliric
      @colliric 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@vladutmarica3765 He's right there's biblical metaphors throughout the entire book & film.
The water fountain represents Noah's Ark. The Chief presages his escape when he sees Randall plan to go to a bar to watch the game. He realises Randall was simply not strong enough. Later in the final scene he causes a major flood in the washroom and uses the fountain to escape the oppressive environment and go back to nature. It's his ark. The others will eventually follow him to salvation, but in their own way in due time.
Murphy essentially acts as the Messiah of the story, arriving from the outside world to instill a spirit of freedom in the group and challenge the authorities. They want to believe he escaped.

Not a huge fan of this series.
I get what you're trying to do (An outsider view of cinema...Obviously), but it just seems like a juvenile high school attempt at being funny with some sort of humanoid Alf with large eyebrows.
The content is great, don't get me wrong, and yes, it is spot on in synopsis and analysis; but the humour is just...Dull.
However, this is just a humble opinion, but with that, this is a dog shit attempt that wreaks of an amateur film study project, and I know better can be done.
That being said; Wisecrack is the best thing to happen to educational entertainment in a long while, and I know you're going to succeed!

Awesome analysis! There are things I have spotted in that movie but I never figured out about the fountain representing the establishment. McMurphy throwing some water from that fountain on a Monopoly game. What a coincidence! Also did you notice one of the female nurse whose working there... The south american small woman. She almost never talks. She's a kind of minion ghoul working under the totalitarian control of Miss Rachel. Same as all her afro american coworkers.

Am I the only one who sees Chief Bromden as the title character.... In old english to "Fly" meant to Escape something, plus it's an American Indian name.
The Chief escaped, he literally "flew the nest" and he's American Indian. He was ultimately the title character of the film.
