Yeah seeing all this intelligent well shot well produced content made me wonder how I stuck with those geeks at TGWTG for so long. It's amazing how 'meh' I found that website after Wisecrack went into full effect.
"life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get", "but if you look through the eyes of forest gumps you can bet it's going to be sweet." what a great simple explanation that I never got around to thinking about, great content! :)
I got to be an extra in "Forrest Gump" in the Lincoln Memorial scene where Jenny runs into the Reflecting Pool. We spent two days moving to different locations around the pool and waiting for the airplanes from National Airport to fly out of the shots. That giant crowd is made up of only about 200 people (fewer on the second day because it was so cold and windy), grouped in a square and moving around the edge of the Reflecting Pool. I think I made about $175.
I immediately thought she was just using him as a solution for her own carelessness. She's such a wild girl, no one knows who's baby that is but she ( maybe).
To me Forrest represents the distilled commentary of the tragedy of human condition. The soul (the essence of a human being, in the non-religious sense), like Forrest, only desires the idealized meaningful relationship(s) with another. And no amount of worldly experiences and fulfillment and appraisals (travel, business success, physical achievements etc) can satiate it's original desire. It's kind of like offering milk or alcohol to someone who is the thirsty for water. The person will still be thirsty, just as Forrest longs for Jenny and only gets to live his idealized life for a couple of days until she dies. The reason why Forrest Gump touches the hearts of every viewer who watches it mindfully is because all of us have Forrest Gump inside of us - that soul that longs for resting in the embrace of the meaningful relationship while we run through life. You guys really hit the nail on the head with your commentary all the while masking it in comedic flavor. bravo!
Respectully I disagree. I was not touched. I thought it layord on the the smaltz (Corn) pretty hevily. And I thought so evan more when I read the book, in which Forest smokes dope, has sex with lots of women, and says that he thinks the Viet nam war is "Shit." In other words, more of a regular guy of his time, and an autistic savant, not just a guy with a really low IQ. And not s neo-conservative ideal of the perfect American idiot.
bbababonbon..bonfire! I love this movie, even after seeing it for the first time some 22 years ago. Since then I've seen it more than 7 times.......the musical score keeps me interested as does the events taking place in the 1960's. Forrest Gump may have a slow mind, but his innocent honesty along with his faithful relationship with his Mother, Jenny, Lt. Dan, and of course Bubba made this story a lesson on faith and commitment to others.......a trait not seen in great depth now. I find several ironies with this flick about a slower than normal person, but with great character, and the narrative found with current news items such as the Clintons. Forrest was not real intelligent, yet everything he touched literally turned to gold. Hillary, on the otherhand, is alleged to be very smart, yet her dealings all seem to end in chaos, death and destruction........eg. the Russian Reset. The Gump story was a work of fiction, while the "H" history is rooted in reality, albeit a reality whitewashed by the press and many other disillusioned voters. When Jenny yelled to Forrest to run when being harassed by his classmates (Run, Forrest, Run), Bill seemed to implore his spouse with "Run, Hillary, Run!!". It makes my imagination to run wild at the seemingly endless contrast that can be found if one looks at these icons and classic cinimatic creations as to how large identity politics and moral degredation has changed in America in the past 22 years.
forrest is unfortunately conservative propaganda about American history.jenny was closer to the path of justice than forrest hanging w black panthers. justice is love in action.forrest killed ppl in Vietnam.
Okay so, I've been binging this series, and I just came to a realization: The Wisecrack logo is a donkey with a monocle. The logo and name is a pun on the word "smartass". How did I not notice this?
iseeu1980 cause typically coconut in chocolate isn't appealing to some people. So he just makes an analogy with his luck in life, and his luck in getting a chocolate with coconut.
You missed a couple of things. 1) You took notice of the fact that the story relies on Gumps memory and that some of the scenes of the story were jumbled and nonsensical. However you did not remark upon the fact that most people realize this but still choose to believe it. In essence placing you in Gumps shoes, seeing only the good and ignoring the bad. 2) You also missed the entire point of the feather. ''What is fate anyway? Are we all just floating like feathers in the breeze? Or is it a mix of both?'' Says Gump at the end of the film. Take note that my memory is not the best so I probably didn't paraphrase that correctly but it's close enough. The movie is filled with conveniences, Jenny having a free seat next to her at the buss, a similarly mentally challenged man in the same pluton as Gump, Lieutenant Dan outside the bar, Jenny at the Washington monument, et cetera. A whole group of people coincidentally crossing paths throughout life, and everyone eventually leaves. I think this is what the feather is supposed to represent. Just the coincidental meeting and parting of people both important and inconsiquential throughout life. Only the feather is specifically representing the audience watching the movie as it carries us into the beginning of the movie, into Gump's world, and then carries us out of it again with the final shot of the movie.
You forgot when Lieutenant Dan says that he'd be an astronaut before Forest Gump is a shrimp boat captain. But during the wedding, Liutenant Dan says his legs are made of Titanium Alloy, the same stuff used in spaceships.
Wow those little details you pointed out like wearing the same clothes and how Forest looks at things really makes me think. What if what he said wasn't true. The human memory is unreliable.....makes the movies sadder than it really is.
+Therina Santana He is probably subconsciously repressing most of the bad parts of his life, like the bullying he obviously went through in school. We probably only remembers those two instances because Jenny was with him, and that he could run. Hell, he probably repressed him and Jenny having sex because he wouldn't be able to comprehend it.
True, true. Pretty smart actually. Thanks. I needed that after the SUPER racist comment I had in my notifications the other day. Glad to see some people have a cleaner mind.
+Therina Santana When he tell to the guy in the bus stop that he became rich with the shrimp company, the guy laugh at him and left. But then he sows to the old lady a picture of him and Lieutenant Dan on the cover of Fortune magazine, proving that he is rich, and pretty much validating his whole story
sure but if you sew them on super quick they can set.. allowing you to switch them which can be super fun! can't do that with reptilians.. they bite too much. however lately i've jus been into jammin crystals into things.. yielded no positive results thus far. :/ it's almost time to return to my planet. i haven't learned anything. decent. :)
HOLY SHIT!!!! Ok, all jokes aside, the whole memory topic you pointed out is an amazing issue, as his memory would likely be flawed, as all humans tend to be weather they wish it or not.
I love Jenny’s character because it also represents an innocent, well-intended and free soul being destroyed by repressive institutions (when she’s kicked out of college for posing naked), opportunists (abusive men) and misguided ideological pursuits. It’s a cruel existence and Forrest is the only one that in his way recognizes her beauty and humanity.
Mandela effect is present as he himself says life is like a box of chocolates which it was but has shifted into a reality that says life was like a box of chocolates.
this broke my heart. i never thought of Forest Gump that way. from a child i thought of it as a fun light hearted always fun to watch movie. as an adult i thought of it as Oscar Bait. now im in my death bed thinking of how Garyx Wormuloid taught me better than my younger self. tho its too late, because i am so old, and i need someone to come clean me. i just shit myself.
I think what we need to remember was that the 20th century was not as clean or beautiful as how Forrest remembered it. Remember that, at one point of the film, Forrest was given a stay at the Watergate hotel, and thus, was responsible for noticing the spying going on, and thus, was responsible for the Watergate scandal. In some ways, its deplorable. But in others, tis a bit of a blessing - Forrest's ability to see a Lt. Dan as a whole, even when he lost his legs, was part of the reason why Dan was later able to find meaning in Life. Sometimes, we need to shut off the sad parts to keep on going.
A list of movies that would be great to see here: O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Vertigo, Fargo, Dr. Strangelove, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Shining, Taxi Driver, and anything really you pick. Love these videos, a very original and hilarious perspective on movies.
Hi Wormuloid, love your channel! Just a note about the "unnatural weather shifts". That actually DOES HAPPEN in tropical countries like Vietnam. One minute it's rainy, then suddenly you walk into a patch of unclouded area. It becomes really weird when you're driving and get rain, sun and suddenly rain back again within minutes.
When you think about it, Jenny is a really terrible person. She ignores, manipulates, and abandons Forrest. He try's to get closer to Jenny but she pushes him away and only comes to him when she dying of AIDS ( or Hepatitis C, it's not really specified). Jenny is just a bad person.
Greg Lenoce thinking the same thing whole movie. got angry really angry when she left him all the time. why would many ask me it's just a movie. Sure that's true but I know how he feels I've been left behind alot and I do know how he feel even if it is just acting or a movie.
you are very wrong, and i think its pretty obvious that jenny loves forest, she is just broken, abused by her father, she feels dirty, she loves forest and sees him as pristine, innocent, she keeps pushing him away cause she doesnt feel worthy of him, she doenst want to take advantage of him, she comes back to forest and marry him only after she gets clean.
You know, I think that Forrest knows that Forrest Jr. might not be his son. He just doesn't care. We already know that he just enjoys pleasing others and since Jenny was the love of his life, he will do whatever she asked of him as her final wish. Kind of just goes to show how good of a person Forrest is.
"The poor man's Jason Biggs" bit and their Shawshank reference in the Lego Movie video both made me pause the video, laugh hysterically, and realize that I have found the greatest video series that has ever existed ever. Wisecrack has won the internet.
So no matter what, Forrest sees the best out of people 24/7 regardless of what others view of him. Even through the toughest of times he can spin it into something positive.
What I love about this video is that it points out how dependent the movie is on the audience's familiarity with the sports, history, & technology portrayed. Forrest's narrative is funny to us because it's at odds with the social reality, & touching because it shows how a man with a mental/cognitive disability interpreted the world around him. I think the similarity in how Forrest dresses alludes simply to a preference for plaids.
"Yes he does, Jenny!" I laughed and teared up all at the same time.

I love how genuine it sounds, like he was actually re-enacting his reaction when he first saw the movie.

Also, this is an easy one but Wisecrack Do one on Big Fish
Screw you! Coconut is great! Unsub.
Jk.
Whoa Garricks got emotional on that one, I hope his utopian society won't execute him for profanity and tonal shift.
I lost my shit when he sayed 'He sees Jenny as a pretty pretty princes, why'll she acually a pretty pretty big-mess'
"...and knowing my luck, it'll probably have fucking coconut."
I can't breathe.
I'd love to see Mr. Wormuloid's take on THE IRON GIANT.
