This year I got rejected at Music Academy in Graz. Though they said I was pretty good, they tried to convince me that the fire extinguisher just ain't a suitable nor legitimate instrument. To hell with those preposterous bastards.
Tom was 27 years old at that time....give me one artist these days who can do the same as he did those days...attitude, lyrics, piano, atmosphere etc... respect the man... he is "one direction"... ;-)
My friend and me would sing this around "78 when we would be coming home after a big nights drinking. Obviously we had had no success with the opposite sex that night.
"Warm Beer And Cold Women" (Lyrics) From the album: Nighthawks at the Diner "It's warm beer and cold women, no I just don't fit in Every joint I stumbled into tonight, that's just how its been All these double-knit strangers with gin and vermouth And recycled stories, in the naugahyde booths And the platinum blondes and tobacco brunettes I'll just be drinking to forget you, I light another cigarette And the band's playing something by Tammy Wynette And the drinks are on me tonight All my conversations now, I'll just be talking about you, baby I'm boring some sailor as I try to get through I just want him to listen now I say that's all you have to do He said I'm better off without you, until I showed him my tattoo And now the moon's rising, ain't no time to lose Time to get down to drinking, tell the band to play the blues And the drinks are on me I'll buy another round At the last ditch attempt saloon Warm beer and cold women, no I just don't fit in Every joint I stumble into tonight, that's just how it's been All these double-knit strangers with gin and vermouth Receding hairlines, in the naugahyde booths And the platinum blondes and tobacco brunettes I'll just be drinking to forget you, baby, I light a menthol cigarette And the band's playing something by Johnnie Barnette At the last ditch attempt saloon."
here is the man that gave you the music and song, replayed and re tuned by so many. But he will always will be the their demise.he is the master of the soul..
He's one of my all time favorite musicians. This is one of my personal favorites of his. From Nighthawks at the Diner. A great album..another one of my favorite albums is Rain Dogs.
True. Thanks. Your a genius. Listen, when any of the above named countries produce a genius like Tom waits, let me know, ok? We give them Tom Waits, they give us Gary Neumann...
Funny how life works... thought i just herd this for the first time... turns out i was here 8 years ago probably drunk and thumbs this up n commented lol... maybe ill stumble back here in my 50’s......

You know he actually is like that in real life, my best friend is marrying his niece. He is a sure classy man. He is real wherever he is, that is why I absolutely love Tom.
Tom is very experimental especially when he collaborates with young new bands.. However....on Orphans, his triple CD set, the Bawlers CD is the opposite of hard metal, especially in his voice. Listen to Tell It To Me, and be amazed. And of course, it's gorgeous. Also check out the unbelievable lyrics in WIdow's Grove. I've never heard anything so profound and deep.
Cold women? Not me! I'm on fire! A fire extinguisher urgently requested! Gosh.... He was very charming! Besides all of his many talents... Unfortunately I was a newborn at that time... 🙄🙄🙁🙁🙁😙😙😙🤗🤗
Used to drive all the way to Wyoming with my buddy...he has since died... we got into Tom and used his stuff to transport ourselves through the sage brush and sunsets.

i think no matter what others say, people will always like whatever makes that emotional connection with them. tom makes that connection easy for some people. not everyone likes the same music and thats why theres more than 1 band out there in the world. enjoy yours and ill enjoy mine.
Tom Waits is an amazing songwriter. He always was, is, and will be. But his singing has changed drastically since the 70's and 80's. The same thing happened to him that happened to Bob Dylan, he lost his old voice
It's the god damn melody....he pulls these things out of his hat....and then sings the damn things like no one else has ever done...Nails 'em. Touring is great for this...he turned his first albums good tunes into classics when he toured. If you ever hear what he did with Midnight Lullaby after his first album...it's blow your doors off. Awesome. (Gotta find it on a bootleg)

Tom insisted they give the Heartbreak Hotel a paint job so they could change the candles and not lose the tears they left behind. Tom doesn't grow on you...he grows in you...from the moment you hear him for the first time until you fade from life with his spirit in your soul.
Warm beer and cold women? My life in a nutshell
This year I got rejected at Music Academy in Graz. Though they said I was pretty good, they tried to convince me that the fire extinguisher just ain't a suitable nor legitimate instrument. To hell with those preposterous bastards.
Tom Waits. The patron saint of the down and out. Amd the coolest (white man, but in my eyes, just the coolest regardless of skin tone) man ever.
My dad died today, i’ve drunk half a litre of Jim Beam, and my first thought was to come to this video. Perfect
Hope you are doing well dude. Love from all the way from Turkey
It's never an easy thing to lose someone that you love! Have a drink on me, dude.
Been there friend ...
I've lost both my heros , if you came here the world needs you more than you may know
All the best man
Mum died a month ago.✌️
😔
🙏
Tom's an inspiration to anybody who's 'down but not out'...
I write and sing just like him.
Very bold hypothesis..
you wish
Tom Waits is a legend. One of the best singers and songwriters of our time.
Tom was 27 years old at that time....give me one artist these days who can do the same as he did those days...attitude, lyrics, piano, atmosphere etc... respect the man... he is "one direction"... ;-)

All he does is cover songs, like a bad night of karaoke
Shit man, I'm 27 right now.
Maddest respect. Love Tom Waits.
Daddy Yankee

Cheers !!!
Now THAT is Damned Funny Buddy !!!!

amen
"A torch song written for piano and fire extinguisher..." by a man whose Dad was "an exhaust manifold" and his Mom "a tree"....
I believe Tony Franciosa used to date that tree.
Facts
this song got me through lots of lonely times
"This was written primarily for piano and fire extinguisher."
My friend and me would sing this around "78 when we would be coming home after a big nights drinking. Obviously we had had no success with the opposite sex that night.
In his early days I considered Tom the greatest American poet.
Nighthawks at the diner. Edward Hopper would probs have to cogitate on Tom's take.
Für mich einer der größten Musiker/Entertainer aller Zeiten!
"Warm Beer And Cold Women" (Lyrics)
From the album: Nighthawks at the Diner
"It's warm beer and cold women, no I just don't fit in
Every joint I stumbled into tonight, that's just how its been
All these double-knit strangers with gin and vermouth
And recycled stories, in the naugahyde booths
And the platinum blondes and tobacco brunettes
I'll just be drinking to forget you, I light another cigarette
And the band's playing something by Tammy Wynette
And the drinks are on me tonight
All my conversations now, I'll just be talking about you, baby
I'm boring some sailor as I try to get through
I just want him to listen now I say that's all you have to do
He said I'm better off without you, until I showed him my tattoo
And now the moon's rising, ain't no time to lose
Time to get down to drinking, tell the band to play the blues
And the drinks are on me I'll buy another round
At the last ditch attempt saloon
Warm beer and cold women, no I just don't fit in
Every joint I stumble into tonight, that's just how it's been
All these double-knit strangers with gin and vermouth
Receding hairlines, in the naugahyde booths
And the platinum blondes and tobacco brunettes
I'll just be drinking to forget you, baby, I light a menthol cigarette
And the band's playing something by Johnnie Barnette
At the last ditch attempt saloon."
thanks james.

Kinda a torch song. It was written primarily for piano and fire extinguisher.
SFRWood Surprisingly nobody laughed at that.
the man was so far ahead of his time no one knew what the hell to make of him.

He's one of my all time favorite musicians. This is one of my personal favorites of his. From Nighthawks at the Diner. A great album..another one of my favorite albums is Rain Dogs.
Aint nobody can tell my life like Waits
This is the sort of thing I dream about sharing with my children. Art that's simple, but brilliant and warm! Uncle Tom is one of a kind!
Ivan Martynov I love that you said that because these are the lullabies my grandmother sung to me as a kid #noBarneyupinhurr
uncle tom??????....that's racist.....hehehe
So waits is your uncle, true or false?. Does anyone have a clue, about the soul of Tom waits. Not in these comments!!!

Why does he have that picture, I was thinking maybe it’s to make him feel the music and sing it better with emotion but I’m not sure
Piano and Fire Extinguisher songs are my favorite.
I cant agree with you more. thank you.
