  • This job can easily cost thousands at a dealer or mechanics shop. But, you can do it for the cost of a third party converter or two (I found the one in the video on eBay for less than $600/a pair). If you hear a rattling sound in your exhaust system as if a rock or loose metal is hitting the insides of the exhaust pipes as you drive AND event at idle, then most likely one or both of your catalytic converters are damaged. There are many other causes which I discuss in the video that can also damage a converter - with age being the number one culprit.

    In all Mercedes-Benz bank 2 is actually the left side, not the right as stated.

      Thank you, Maxwell. I misspoke. Bank 2 on V6 and 8 Benzes is on driver side on left hand steering cars.

    Is the rear a resonator or converter?

    • @masood-tv
      @masood-tv  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ace Tech, the front is the converter, the rear is the muffler.

    • @acetech9237
      @acetech9237 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@masood-tv No it's not. There are 2 catalytic converters. 4 in total. Behind the catalytic converter where you installed the 02 sensors there is a secondary catalytic converter. I took mine off thinking it was a resonator which is pretty much a muffler but I think I am at fault for the confusion. What I meant when I said the rear I was referring to the secondary converter. I'm a professional tech I just wasn't accustom to seeing another converter after the downstream o2 sensor. I was really surprised on a Mercedes Benz there would be a converter not monitored by the ECM for emissions. Anyway thanks for getting back. I apologize for the poor description on my behalf. God bless!

    are there nuts on the top of the exhaust manifold where the pipe first meets or are they threaded?

    • @masood-tv
      @masood-tv  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes، Chris. The nuts are affixed there...and if rusted could be reached, removed and replaced from the engine bay.

      Sorry to hear that Michael. Did they steal your O2 sensors along with the converter. That could be the reason for the limp mode.

    Thank you and SALAM brother for a very informative and valuable video.
    I have the same vibration problem in my 2006 MB sedan E350, W211 base model. USA.
    My driver side seat right side shakes when car is idling or running at 2200 rpm and higher. I replaced all spark plugs, air filters, engine oil and filter thinking it may be a misfire or two (no misfire codes tho)
    Using an OBD tool and TORQUE pro app, I noticed that my bank 1 S1 and bank 2 S1 is not working.
    And Catalyst and O2 sensor is not available means Cat. Bank1 S2 and Bank 2 S2 is not responding.
    Please advise or your thoughts where this vibration is coming from from? And what to fix.
    To me it may O2 Sensors, but I am not an auto mechanic.
    Waiting for your response.
    Best Regards

    • @masood-tv
      @masood-tv  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      AAwRwB Syed. Vibration is different from the clunking sound I describe in the video. I cannot tell based on your OBD reading whether you have a bad cat or sensor. That is what you should focus first. Take the car to a muffler shop who may do the inspection free of charge for you. Once you ascertain you have a bad cat or sensor, you replace them per the video. Vibration causes are many including bad engine and transmission mounts as well as other suspension components. But, first fix your exhaust issue and see if the vibration goes away. A clogged exhaust system very well may cause vibrations...
