If I have aqua regia contains gold a d platinum could I get the gold with SMB first a d then get the platinum with aluminium later or the is a problem?
I'm kind of curious why the hydrochloric acid isn't used first and followed by aqua regia? I'm kind of wondering if very small amounts of precious metals aren't dissolved by hydrochloric acid alone. I remember doing tests with just straight hydrochloric acid and gold leaf. Over a couple days the gold leaf dissolved. Is it because some of the product will dissolve and just hydrochloric acid? It would be a pretty good way of dissolving some of the other crap otherwise
Omg! I flunked algebra and never balanced a checkbook! This is CRA CRA! I loved watching the magic! Thank you for showing us old school people some chemistry! Amazing!!!!🤩🤩🤩🤩
Just for hobby i play with AUDI A2 1.6 catalytic converter.. it have hard fragile net kinds metals .. I dissolved a few parts in HCL+HNO3 but Tin chloride test showing nothing.. is it possible catalytic converter without any precious metals?
You mean the dirt from the catalyst? No, nothing is lost. Basically if the catalyst is clogged then some metal can be retained in the openings but when clean like this, all the worn metal has already leaked through the exhaust, and the dirt is a huge problem when filtering, because the oils and fats they contain!
i did not find any video about rhodium. i never saw any video about rhodium. can you show to us, how to recover the rodium? or some one reading this.comment can send a link for a video about rhodium recovery??
I was hoping this catalyst would have Rodium but in the end it turned out to be just Platinum. I'll try to make a video with one containing Rodium but first I have to find it, a lot of FAP filters from new vehicles contain Rodium.
Because mainly in gold and silver, there is always some base metal that Aluminum would probably break down and contaminate the metal, while in the catalyst only the precious metals are in solution so that contamination is minimized.
Question: for ANYONE who has an answer! (Yes, I'm just getting into recovery and refining. After 3 years of studying) The aluminum used to drop the platinum, I'm assuming it's a high grade aluminum. Can I get that by melting my own bars and getting all the dross off before the pour??? Was it a bit off a relief to find it only had platinum (because only one thing to focus on)? Or would it not have mattered much on the process? Have a GREAT Day!!!
You can use aluminum foil. If you melt and pour aluminum take a small drill bit and drill into it. Then use the drill shavings to drop. Denser larger surfaces can cause a boil over pretty quick. Add small amounts of shavings or aluminum foil pieces works great. Just know if you have iron, copper, tin, silver, gold or platinum group metals aluminum will drop them all out of solution. So know exactly what you have before using aluminum.
Aluminium from video is high grade ,im wor in factory for the manufacture of wagons for trains so i get this bars from waste section and purity is 99,9%. When it comes to catalysts, there are no base metals in them besides precious metals so that it can easily be dropped with Aluminum without fear of being soiled by other common metals. And yes u can use foil.Thanx for watching mate.
Awesome video dusan. I have leached some substrate before with chlorine, but never crushed. I think I may put a couple in my ball mill and see how it works. I'll start with nitric leach to remove palladium, the aqua regia to separate platinum. Thanks for the videos.
I was thinking of doing it myself, but I still decided on Aqwaregia. I wanted to spend as little nitric acid as a lot of people complained that it was very expensive to pay for them.
@999DusanGoldrecovery You can use brick 1 or pre-cat bricks to make your own nitric acid. These contain 5 to 15 % rhodium 95 to 85% platinum. This is a mix similar to those used for ammonia burners in commercial manufacturing of nitric acid. Simply bake the brick to remove the carbon from it then heat and feed with an air rich mix of ammonia and air. Cool the gas and bubble through a bucket full of water to get HNO3 or directly into HCl with your catalyst to create dilute aqua regia. ❤

If it takes that long to get the metal out and it's not that much metal, what makes it worth stealing those things in the first place. It doesn't seem worth all that trouble to go through.
Most converter thieves will sell to a recycler, who then sells it to a company which recovers the metals, who then sells the recovered metals to a refiner. Sometimes there are more middle companies depending on who is starting off that chain. Everyone gets their cut, the converter thieves will get the smallest dollar amount, but they are also stealing them so it is pure profit, whether it is 50 dollars or 200 dollars for each one. This is why thieves will often target certain vehicles and not others, because they know which converters have the most PGMs inside (i.e. which ones are more valuable). If you think about it that way, a thief could potentially steal 5-10 converters in a couple hours, sell them for 100-200 each, and make between 500 to a thousand per hour of time invested.
Acting clueless is not a good way to disagree with someone. This isn't beautifully refined metal that you can sell to laboratories. I was giving that price as a reference.
