- I am REACHING here lol. Sony A7S III is so good, it literally exceeded my expectations. But there are some minorly annoying quirks. 6 devastating flaws that keep my channel alive. Today we are testing the 24mm GM f1.4. Is it better than the 20mm f1.8? Can you vlog with it? Too much Toneh?

$3500 is the biggest issue along with lens price. Can make a whole channel finding how good a camera can get at lower prices. Is it $1800 better than the XT4? Maybe for some people, maybe not. Is a $300 action cam more perfectly priced for walking vlogs.
@@jonuiuc The word perfect is highly subjective. The A7SIII is nowhere near what I would consider perfect, but I don't vlog or use video much at all. The R5 is damn near perfect to me and I would sell a kidney to get it and a few rf lenses if Canon weren't such a bunch of fucking assholes and artificially crippling it to save their cinema line.
The perfect camera is the camera that you enjoy and love using no matter what the flaws is.
Honestly...I love the look of this new Sony. But damn, if Kasey has proven one thing here...it’s how important personality is...content is king, especially if content is your personality. I keep coming back to be entertained...to laugh, and enjoy this guy’s personality. You rock bro. Keep up the good work!

You should try the following settings for standard picture profile: highlights -9, shadows +9, sharpness -7 and DRO Auto. Brandon Li shared these settings it in one of his A7S III videos. The results looked promising, he only had to do some minor adjustments in post.

This is the most glorious camera for content creators. You just need to find the perfect lut and your golden. The 20mm T1.8 is the lens to have. Size, price, color, tony, stabilization in active mode.
Paul Thomas Agree with that assessment. Especially considering weight and price. However I do own the 24mm G master that I use for stills on an Riii and it is just as ridiculous as you would expect.
Depends what you’re shooting. Wide lenses make people look much uglier tho.

Content creators making huge amount of money are using Blackmagic and dedicated video cam, not hybrid. If you are a normal youtuber any brand like Canon, Sony Fuji, Panasonic or Nikon can do the job. Its just a matter of preference. For me, I cannot stand the Sony A series ergonomics and terrible menu.
I’ll do you one better, turn off the stabilizer and use the gyroscope and mind is 🤯

For chrissake, don't use auto exposure if you don't want the exposure to constantly be changing as you walk through random places.
I vlog indoors with the 1.4 24mm GM so this was a useful video, but I shoot travel stuff with the 1635 GM for that extra wide stuff. Just... a bit heavy

Even though that Casey is trying to find the perfect camera, I think, at the end, that he loves his Lumix cameras. His videos made with Lumix are the best ones in his channel.

I've seen some great results with some of the Sony to ARRI luts packs... Then I realized you can get a very similar (identical) look with the DaVinci Resolve color space transform tool:
S-Log3 to ARRI Log-C to Arri Rec. 709, adjust the highlight rolloff, tweak white balance (Sony AWB errs on the cool side, can be avoided with WB card), and export as a LUT.
A bit of work, but totally worth it! And with 10-bit you can probably more or less color-match RED, Blackmagic, or Venice with a similar process.

Man when you put on that Fuji LUT it looks the best. That 20 1.8 Toneh is cinema approved
I once I started filming my friend with a sony and his nose started bleeding. That's when I said nope no more sony.
So now we know. The Sony kit lens turns harmless European grey squirrels into melanistic demon spawn squirrels.
I don't need to review the camera to tell you the #1 flaw with it. It's too expensive!!!

12:56 that shot is so cinema with that natural glow! This lens is magical..if only there was a lighter version of it. Come on Tamron or Sigma! 24/F1.8 please! This has been your most pleasant looking sit down image so far, skin tone and all. The exposure stepping is gone outside, yes that was the face priority option that was causing the flashes, that's Sony reacting quickly to expose your face correctly it looked like flashes. Yes the exposure setting is always best set at above zero, I have been using it at +0.7 on all my Sony's and that always made perfect balance. 24/F1.4...man this lens is sweet. And its not shaky with the active on. Great lens.

Its been awhile...but I'm back and loving the nostril flare slow mos. So funny and its great to see you falling in love as I did. Someone stole my Panny G9 in Rome and I bought Sony A7III (they did me a favour in hindsight) your latest string of videos with your comments it was like hearing myself being amazed with everything but the colour (I've created a profile that leans a little toward Panny away from the greens). Great videos! Because of you I bought the G85! A few year ago! Great camera! I didn’t like that first lends outside with the Sony. But, I realize that with the great autofocus of Sony you look more confident on the video, more going with the flow and making the best of you! Wow! Or is about the new camera, I don’t know, but is a new you with that Sony! Keep up the good work!!!
Confirming the custom mode when you switch to it allows you to save more modes on your SD card. So instead of just two custom modes, you effectively have six (the normal two and M1, M2, M3 & M4 that are saved on one of your SD cards and can be selected during the confirmation option). You can also store all different sorts of custom modes on different cards and easily load them up by popping in a new card, or by switching the MR function to the 2nd slot. My biggest gripe with Sony’s custom modes is that you can’t store a custom white balance while using one of these modes. This idiocy is how the A7iii “works,” and I’ve heard that it has not been fixed on the A7Siii.
And the little Pany Pony galloped into the sunset in search of the perfect contrast detection auto focus. Never to be seen again.

I'm not sure if I can make a lut from Premiere to use on Davinci? That was a Premiere lut and I don't use it anymore.
@@cameraconspiracies Isn't the lut files the same? Maybe not but I know at least from Lightroom you can import a special picture with different colors, apply a preset/color grade and export it and import that into an app that then spits out a LUT. Maybe something similar can be done? Or it might be just easier to try to recreate the demon look in Davinci :)

I have the same problems with custom modes (can't change exposure type, confirm with press) on my A7iii. Drives me nuts and I don't know how to fix it either.
It was Sony green, Sony yellow, so their improvement is Sony orange? LOL.
Frankly his colours outside looked terrible. But I compare that to Brandon Li’s stuff with the same camera and I have to put it down to the non-technical LUTs or missed white balance, plus he never corrected for the green being reflected off the trees on to his skin tones.
The a7siii is the best video camera. Ever. And your videos are epic!
I think the active stab looked quite fantastic.
Face priority exposure on Sony is more balanced in comparison to Nikon's, so I don't see any harm in using it. The Slog3 + Fuji LUT already gave pretty good colors, no experiments needed. I also think somewhere in the neighborhood of Toneh 2.8-4 is the sweet spot. Infinity Tonysm is just for the studio, or when you are walking next to garbage cans. Shallow depth of field in video does not have the same pleasing effect in video as in photos, especially when you are moving. Our eyes try to constantly refocus and fail, giving a sense of confusion and headache. All in all, pretty much yeah, almost the perfect camera. I weep for your channel.

The changing exposure in the custom profiles ... AND ... the confirmation by hitting a button when changing from one custom to another ... have been a continuing "thing" with Sony cameras. My A6500 functions exactly as you explained. It pisses me off. I tend to bounce between customs for various changes during my projects and the confirmation drives me crazy. I often shoot in shutter priority for video and when I want to go to full manual it drives me nuts that I have to switch to movie mode.

lens fighting active stab could be a firmware issue. This cam is a sill pre-production model. Some of the issues can be bugs that are fixed in the production firmware. Try getting the cam again in a month when the production firmware is out.
That lens wouldn't be worth trying again. And the 16-35mm is too heavy for a T4.
I don't even care for cameras thaaat much... My dude makes me laugh 😂 I'll become half knowledgeable about cameras while being entertained.

OMG, the a7Siii is a fantastic camera!
HOWEVER, at 13:52 and 17:37 and 19:52, music to my ears, tears to my eyes!
And a proof of the best AF not supporting human desires at 18:00 and 18:36.
So when you have 60p at 600mbit and 30p at 300mbit, you have the same bitrate. 60p is twice the amount of frames per second so the bitrate is "higher" to make it equal to 300mbit at 30p.
The active stab made a huge difference 😅
I don't know for sure...but maybe FL is Fluorescent Light and IN mode is incandescent? Call me crazy!
14:12 the brighter setting looks good on my oled. I prefer these punchy colors and strong contrast even at the expense of slightly clipped highlights as it better translates the joyful atmosphere of this bright sunny day. ☺

Camera Conspiracies and you should try - that is when you are a future nature photographer who needs 45 mpix... I can see it in front of my eyes already: „Stacy, lay down there and hold that peanut with your pursed lips and wait for the squirrel to grab the... oh no I wasn’t ready - now it’s all underexposed...” Loser! 🤣 Also I think the canon cripple hammer has shifted tactics and now attacks the pc of the editor instead of the user. So enough questions to be answered with the Canon R5 (who knows what the R6 will do btw...).

The footage looked best in S-Log with both the CineToLC-709 and Eternal LUTs. I believe the A7SIII requires a CFexpress Type A card when recording in 4K 120p... So there goes another C$160/US$120 for the reader, then however much more for a couple of cards, or at least one more, to have a redundancy with the card they provide with the camera.
While the 24mm lens looked good at Toneh 1.4, I liked it best at Toneh 2.8... Gotta see the surroundings, especially 🐿 and 👽! Is there a cheaper alternative around that focal length because C$1,900/US$1,400 is a bit much, especially when the camera already costs C$4,800/US$3,500? At C$6,700/US$4,900 the combo is hardly a bargain, especially for vlogging... Not to mention, was that focus breathing at 18:50-18:54?
Tbh in all the comparison videos before this, I was able to identify the a7s3 solely by choosing the camera with the better skintones
colour = subjective. amount of grading involved to get a7siii to my liking = objective :)

Bad kit-lenses are a no-go for me. I nearly bought a Sony APS-C camera, but I wanted the kit-lense to start with and looked at some tests and it was terrible. I don't understand why Sony doesn't understand that you need a decent kit-lense for your cameras.

That locked exposure dial is gonna piss me off. I change modes constantly and there's no reason why I would ever want the mode dial locked. My gh5 and gh5s have the lock/unlock button and they're never ever locked

The sticky focus was pretty solid (like when it stuck to the corner of your shoulder that was in the frame!), but the colors are what grieve me. They appear either washed out or weirdly hued on my iPhone.
WHAT IF the stepping exposure is visible with high shutterspeed?? What if jitters look slightly more jittery with high shutterspeed?

Turn on DRO if you're looking for SOOC dynamic range. That's how I cheat the system on the A9, it's kind of crappy, but it works.
