  • 🎵After a massively successful career in his 20s and 30s, Phil's downward spirals started to become worse and worse as he progressed through his life. Everything came to a head for him on February 3rd, 2003 when he brought home a beautiful hollywood actress and hostess from the House of Blues in LA. His driver that night reported dropping them off at his castle around 3AM. Then, shortly after 5AM, he heard a gunshot and saw Phil running from the house. In this episode, we discuss how Phil Spector's life and career went up in flames. 🎵 #philspector #musicproducer #documentary

I love this channel! Been a deep dive nerd for decades and I hear new stories in every video. Also Alan Jackson is the defense attorney in the current day Karen Read murder trial, covered by tons of true crime content creators. Thanks!

I have learned that just because somebody can set something to music doesn't necessarily validate the idea or sentiment. Great songwriters need production but the root of the composition is the most important part. One of the criticisms of the mainstream is that there is too much production and too little inspiring content. The music business success stories often end up like this, with the true artists left behind.

Medication and genius don’t go together. If he couldn’t stay awake with his client he probably was taken something.

I don't know why they ever charged him with first degree murder. It seems patently obvious that this was not the case. I was thinking that even 2nd degree was a stretch, but I read the definition and yeah, that fits. I have some minor, controllable pathological tendencies myself and a fascination with music production. I hope the fact that I never followed through on either is not connected. I'd hate to think that empathy is a hindrance to music production.

I never liked Phil or his wall of mush! It sounded TERRIBLE!! I really don't understand what people see in that sound that they think is so incredibly great! I'd MUCH rather have Terry Melcher! He made some DAMN GOOD records!!

It's a nice house, but a castle? For $1M? I lived in LA for awhile in the 2000s. $1M wouldn't buy a guesthouse. I otherwise really am enjoying your channel, but felt like I had to add this observation (apologies). Keep up the good work!

Phil Spector liked to play a deadly game of Russian roulette with the C & D list actresses he was dating at the time. He would pay any actress 100k if she was willing to play this deadly game of Russian roulette by pointing the gun at her own head and pulling the trigger. Unfortunately, for Lana, her luck had run out!

This not a vindication of Spector, he had issues and was most likely the cause or a contributor to her death. Not having read about or heard the other evidence I can't say how I would have voted if on the jury, but I would likely disregard the statement of the chauffeur. If they where play Russian roulette or some other stupid gun game, in his home with his guns, then it is very possible that in the shock of the moment he would say I think I killed someone. His layers may not have thought it prudent to go down the gun play path, think it would go just as bad for him. He may have even thought the gun was unloaded. Not that that is an excuse one should always treat a gun as if it was loaded. People do stupid stuff with guns, how many times have we heard of someone getting shot, and hearing I did know it was loaded. Again, not a vindication of Spector or an excuse for stupid gun handling.

Thanks for the feedback - I changed the thumbnail and the title so it's more of a Part 2 to the 1st Video :) Hopefully you like some of the others. I'm working on one about Janis Joplin right now that should be up tomorrow/monday.
