The Gen 1 stubby did the same thing in the 4th setting, it's used just as you've described Vince, to run fasteners down until it recognizes resistance, this is handy for those that want to ensure no cross threading occurs.
It is not losing a little bit of torque, it is actually losing a lot of torque, doesn't matter if that socket sits tight on that adapter it is still losing torque. See torque test channel video on that topic, even one single adapter can be up to 30% of torque loss, not even mentioning 2 adapters stacked up on each other.
I drive demolition derby and build my cars with my Milwaukee 3/8 stubby impact and it has easily been the best tool in my collection. TBH I almost don’t even need anything else! Thanks for this review, I most definitely will be investing in one of these but not sure if I’d really need it yet. Mine has done everything I’ve needed it to do and all I’ve thrown at it. I’ve only needed my 1/2 inch high torque probably a couple of times the 3/8 stubby has always gotten the job done! Love your videos and I live just north of Philly too :)
Yea the gen 1 is insane. Takes a beating too. Only things ive ran into it cant do is lugnuts on pickup trucks. But then again thats using 1/2 adapters so could easily be losing the torque to do it. Its awsome. Fits everywhere. Had a 3/8 high speed ratchet too and between those i did everything I ever needed. Unfortunately the 3/8 ratchets currently mia so instead of gen 2 stubby i might be having to buy another ratchet:/. I have high hopes it will come home. Tho i think i left it in an engine bay so someone prolly picked it up on the highway🤦🏻♂️
I’ve liked watching your videos for awhile, but the quality of tests in this video doesn’t do that impact justice. Using too many adapters, too big of bolts. Hopefully you make a better updated video in the future.
I love mine and as someone who owns a 2018 Ford F150 and 2006 Harley Davison Road King who does his own mechanic work my stubby and insider ratchet with XC5.0 batteries, they’re the 2 best Milwaukee tools in my collection for the job
The tightening mode seems super useful, at work I need to tighten plates in a cross/star pattern so you don't wanna tighten at 1st , you only wanna set the fastener just snug so that the plate sets in its place , and only then can you start progressively tightening in a star pattern . I can see that being a very useful feature .
I have one on order currently. I have the gen1 and always felt like it was ok but there were a lot of times where it just didn’t cut it. So I’m hoping it will be enough for what I’m using it for.
Every time you press the trigger in tightening mode, it will tighten an extra 15lbs from my understanding. Which means you can do the math in your head and tighten semi accurately
Purchased the m18 fuel hammer drill and impact with an 8 amp battery and the m18 fuel saw . Very happy with the purchase so far . Was really wanting to choose a good brand as just buying the batteries is a big investment
I think I will like having the trigger as both the go button and the selector button. No need to add your other hand to the mix. If you are going to use the protective boot, you know the boot that is designed to protect the tool first, then the piece that you are working on as a secondary benefit, then you should simply read the directions first, use it a few tmes to get used to how it works now, and then place the boot on it.
I think the mode changing is actually pretty cool! The sticker will last as long as my OCD will allow it to be on it…lol! Great video Vince…as always! Oh I will be adding this puppy to my arsenal!
It will take some getting used to but I think it’s actually pretty handy…. Although, I still can get all the negative comments about the direction switch on the M12 installation driver out of my head!! 🤣
I think the speed selector is great 👍 I've always found it awkward on the top and on the M18 impact drivers where it's near the battery I always accidentally change it with my lil finger
The impact from the anvil of the tool must transfer that impact directly to the nut you are loosening through the socket. If you have a loose connection from the anvil to the socket you reduce the transfer of impacts per second to the nut. The loose connection can be from socket with bad tolerance (loose/sloppy) and/or from the loose/sloppy fit of any adapters you are using. If you have a slightly loose fitting socket with poor tolerance and add to that an adapter also with a slightly loose fit you now have a too much slop and the impacts from tool are not transferred to the nut. Therefore you have poor performance. Try to use 3/8 drive sockets with a 3/8 drive tool and 1/2 with 1/2. It's easy to see that there is huge amount of slop in you setup and very little impact is being transferred to the nut. There is so much slop the socket can hardly even hold on even just moving it around when it's turned off. There's other reviews of this tool testing torque. Please watch them and it's always a good idea to read the manual. The nut holding the tool needs an adjustment.
One good thing about the boot is it protects the serial number label which is going to be needed for warranty repair. No serial number your probably screwed.
That mode selector is awesome, always had an issue with "buttons" on my tools, and you see that button is the first thing to wear out, and break. Well Milwaukee knows how to make a trigger and direction selector, so why not put the mode selector there. I have drills I have used for 5 years and beaten them up, whose trigger / direction selector still work. Every tool I have with the "button selector" I can just tell in 5 years that button is going to break and be an issue..
The tightening mode is definitely for installers, like door panels, interior assemblies, stuff the you just want snug not over tightened or stripping the threads. My mechanic buddies, use their M12 impacts for everything now, the days of using a socket wrench 90% of the time are done, watching him work, he was removing and reattaching bolts all with his M12 impacts. Speed is the name of the game and these small hand tools can get into small places and get the job done. He had attachments for those knuckle buster spots, that attached to his M12 tools. Again no longer needing to slowly turn a bolt with 1" of clearance, nope M12 impact, attachment and bolt is in.
This will be the perfect tool for me. I’m not a mechanic or anything, just want something small that can help me take lug nuts off in a pinch at home or other smaller tasks. Perfect!
Battery size has nothing to do with the amount of power with the tool puts out. It just means it stores more electricity. But yes I agree you want bigger battery for something you're gonna be using all day.
I think the idea behind this is for one handed speed changes. As a small engine mechanic I could see where this would be useful in some scenarios but more aggravating in others.
I nearly bought a gen 1, a month later this got released, woulda been pissed if I got the gen 1, in saying that still an awesome impact from what I've seen
I’m sure they changed from analog to neutral switch because it gives more space in the drill for a more powerful motor. I’m pretty sure that’s the whole point y’all. Or there would be a beefier tool cause of the analog
I'm just a guy looking for a small impact to bring with me that can used to change a flat quickly on the side of a road on my truck or trailer. I currently have a full size 18volt Dewalt that is about 6 years old and needs new batteries. I think this would be very nice replacement and compact vs my Dewalt. What's everyone's opinion on getting the 3/8" vs the 1/2"?
its a bit smal for wheel nuts, if they are torqued properly on clean threads and removed recently yeah itll be fine but if those whele nuts are rusty or ugga duggered up its not happening, id get a mid torque m18
pretty sure the grey they are comparing to is snap on lol but idk for sure. Milwaukee will send these to every influencer except for the torque test channel and that is a bit suspect for me.
So basically it's modestly more powerful than the Gen 1. Truth is that you're only going to get so much power out of a small impact mechanism, and Milwaukee improved the design. But that doesn't change the fact that it's a small impact driver and it has its limits.
Got the Gen2, returned it pretty quick after using it. It has double the power, but it also drains xc5 at double the rate, the gen1 just lasts forever it seems. I also hated the new mode changer. Got a Gen1 and love it even at lower power, but when I want mid torque power, I use a proper mid torque.. don't get me wrong, I'll probably buy a gen2, but for the 60% price discount I got for the Gen1, it didn't make sense to get the 2 yet.
People love to spend money on brand name tools, the more expensive the tools the more they have to spend willingly. I guess money grows on trees these days ?!? 😮😅
What??... unless your uhh "special" The sticker isn't meant to stay on the impact. It's like the clear (peel off before use) transport protector on electronic devices. If you need the sticker more than once, you shouldn't be using the impact...

That sockets so big it thought it was tight 😂😂
The 4th mode is mainly for loosening. But can be used for small fasteners as well. It will tighten to 15 ft/lbs max
Great Job Vince. I liked that you did a demo in your shop and put it to practical use on your truck. I just picked up one today.
Thanks

uhhh i peeled the sticker off the second i got the tool lmfao
I think the speed selector is great 👍 I've always found it awkward on the top and on the M18 impact drivers where it's near the battery I always accidentally change it with my lil finger
What’s the difference between the 2563-20 and the 2563P-20 with pin detent?
I have all three impacts so I’ll definitely just be sticking to GEN one. I love my mid torque 18 V.

The nut holding the tool needs an adjustment.
The mode for snugging it up is to allow a car mechanic to then torque up the fastener/bolts/nuts afterwards without over torquing initially.
What would be a good option for changing out blades on a zero turn mower?
On the upgrade list from gen 1 for sure!
Vince is a beast! Keep up the good reviews and ENERGY!!
Thanks Brandon
Am I the only one kinda sad he never tested the 5.0 batteries 😢. In all though great vid brother 😁
Thank you!
How are you doing today VCG I am doing good I can't wait to meet you down there in Bose City LA
Hi Kenneth, maybe one day soon my friend!
I think the speed change isn’t a bad idea. If you have it in a tight space you can change it with one hand.
Agreed
One good thing about the boot is it protects the serial number label which is going to be needed for warranty repair. No serial number your probably screwed.
Thx for the review
You bet
This channel is way better than that dude that purposely says all the brand names wrong.
Moving on to gen 2

3:11 vince did you try and push the mode button like on the 1st gen 😂
I was perplexed at first… I’ll admit
@@VCGConstruction 😂 imagine how many people that own the older gen are going to do that also
Me included
Love my little Gen1

grey is probably snap on, can't think of any other wrench that has that profile
Pretty certain I just saw you at Epcot Orlando, FL.
Heck yeah I will be getting a 1/2 and a 3/8
The Bosch Flexiclick is so much more versatile for tight locations with all its accessories.
The drill/driver with swappable heads like the M12 installation driver?
The 550ftlb only come with the XC5.0 battery. With the XC4.0 its only around 250ftlbs
Battery size has nothing to do with the amount of power with the tool puts out. It just means it stores more electricity. But yes I agree you want bigger battery for something you're gonna be using all day.
I'm guessing people were changing settings with the trigger pulled, so the new method prevents that from happening.
Maybe, I’ve never found myself trying to do it myself, but sounds plausible! Thanks!
I think the idea behind this is for one handed speed changes. As a small engine mechanic I could see where this would be useful in some scenarios but more aggravating in others.
gonna get this one
¡Operación con una mano! 😲

Yes
@jarrod1687 Thank you 🥲

Let us know how you like it when you spin some nuts with it Eric, thanks!
At 3:00, the tool behind him disappears 😆
Damn you Vince! I want it!
What do you like most about it? I like the lights & of course the POWER!
@@VCGConstruction more power baby!
When is this tool coming out
It’s out
You loose a lot of torque through adapters.
You need the high output battery for these to really perform.
TTC proved these facts 👍🏼
I’m sure they changed from analog to neutral switch because it gives more space in the drill for a more powerful motor. I’m pretty sure that’s the whole point y’all. Or there would be a beefier tool cause of the analog

Competitor 1 in gray is snap on at 525ftlbs, i assume yellow is dewalt.
This tool is within the same torque range dewalts dcf 921
I honestly don’t know the specs for the Dewalt, what are they exactly?
I think the slack and inertia of the big socket is fooling the gun into thinking the fastener is snug in tightening mode.
I want one of these things
I believe the new stubby is the gen 3
Yo Vince! How ya *dern*
How you Dern Dave?
Wow Milwaukee, just wow, what a badass tool, 550 ft lbs from a 12 volt 🤯🤯👏👏👏
@@Lee-lb9qh you need that big battery for 550 ftlbs
@bobbymaldini7653 not really big though 😂 most of it is in the handle
I love new tools too Vince but my wife doesn’t
Being a mechanic you be need to get everything snugged up first before you start to tighten anything nothing gets hurt that way
Yes sir🎉

ill use my trusty gen 1 till it breaks maybe then ill go for a new gen 2
mechanics can rebuild transmissions and engines surely they can remember how to change speeds
Gray is snap-on
not even their 14.4 volt line-up either, it's the 20v line up they're comparing to
Gen 2 👍👍
at the present time my g1 does good enough

All the adapter loss. Poor video maneee. You loose a loaddd
If they made the grip less bulbous I would buy it in a heartbeat. It’s too uncomfortable as it is.
i have them both the new 1 is more powerful did my test to prove to myself

The sticker isn't meant to stay on the impact. It's like the clear (peel off before use) transport protector on electronic devices.
If you need the sticker more than once, you shouldn't be using the impact...
Auto mode isn't working right because you have a 2 pound socket on it.
Negative Ghost Rider, the pattern is full.
I’ll buy the Walmart hyper tough…why…idk
You using the wrong battery
dudes using 2 stacked adapters on the impact come on lol
Butnussing… the forbidden metric
Man for that price point it should stop as it starts to impact a little bit regardless maybe a default in the tool 🤦♂️
Did you mean to say "but nusting"?😅😅😅
homie lookin yoked up.
Lol 2 inch bolt is too much for a half inch anvil
The socket was bigger than the tool . Probably lost like half of torque .
