You forgot to mention that Wildcard had a small layoff(google news on that) back in May and that Cedric was removed as community manager taking a "data" position instead and Dollie was removed from her previous position to be now the community manager. Both to me are demotions in my book. The xbox gamescon snafu is likely due to dollie but also could be due to someone taking an old list of attendees/plans and doing a write up and it not being properly proof read before going out by xbox people too. I'd like to, chalk it up to WC making the error but who knows. Both of us have been for a long time now saying this whole situation is a shutdown waiting for a place to happen and its looking more and more likely as they desperately push the mod microtransactions, that silly ark club nintendo mini games nonsense and essentially focus more on mtx than anything else. @jamieward2880 Oh no no... the issues with both the financial decisions and game ones have been around long before Shi Hai who decided he wanted to launch that ridiculous gaming comp EV car company. Once you look into decision makers more closely with Ark(Wildcard) you also see some disconcerting things(ie Steiglitz and his troubles even before starting Wildcard, Kennedy(ceo and pretty out there trump supporter who likes to talk about his nonense views on linkedin) and the list goes on. Its just that people haven really pulled the curtain back enough before the last couple years to see what's been actually going on that led to where things are now.
There is no way you called ASA p2w. If its true then evolved was too. Pretty much any dino from later dlc than island powercreeps any dinos there. Thats just how dlcs worked then and still work now.

It is still a all time great. im playing Ark survival and have not bought new one yet. i want to run it in all its glory so will wait till i upgrade my graphics card, i see it had already been on a discount two weeks ago so i will pick new one up for cheap im sure and enjoy the same cool gameplay with new graphics :D. Im not too phased about new dlc dino's but i can see how it can ruin the game going forward.
@@jacooosthuizen3593 I don't think it's a bad idea at all. There's a real possibility that Snail goes tits up and ASA never does publish all the original ASE maps. This project is constantly running behind and under-funded.
As of August 4th, Ascended has just over 18k players in-game. Evolved has over 37k. That alone speaks volumes. We didnt want a new game... we wanted an update and refresh/optimization of what we already had.
All I wanted was for Prim+ to be finished. I gave up on ark after it was apparent all they wanted to do was drip feed free maps over the span of a year and sell others at a BS price for a handful of new features with every map that just congested the game overall
People are unlikely to buy a game when countless tards online are trashing the game simply because they can not afford it/can't run it on their PC. The game is awesome to me and I bought evolved the first day it hit steam.

Not to be excessively mean, harsh, or rude, but Snail games isn't a company you should entrust your money and time into. If it was just Wildcard Studios back during the prime of ASE I could understand, but who knows how different things would be if they had published under a different company. I can't say it would be better, chances are it most likely would be, but thats not something I can say for certain. ASE was awesome until they started adding tech stuff, and it steadily got worse from their. Don't disregard the massive data downloads with every patch resetting data, and the pay to win creatures implemented. Please don't respond if you won't even acknowledge half of the issues brought up.
I loved Ark, but my god, that game did not respect the player's time at all. I played with a 8 man team and it took an absolute century to finish The Island. Easily 80% of our playtime was just farming resources for a 40-80 minute exploration / set of cave runs.

@@Sharsis8you didn’t max the right stuff clearly. No hate just the server settings weren’t optimized for the playing experience you wanted since it sounds like you had your own server. I’ve played official rates and super boosted. I’ve settled onto a cluster with a good balance of gathering, taming and breeding rates. My resource runs are as needed and besides a few things I can gather them in one shot or I’ll grind out multiple runs in a row to be set for a long time. Again no hate just saying to keep adjusting it until you find what works for you
@@Sharsis8 sounds like you didn't tweak your server settings enough. Once I adjusted the settings enough resource harvesting wasn't much of an issue or breeding
@@Sharsis8 Lol, with my settings even a Giga Egg takes like half an hour to hatch, and combined with grow up less than 2.5 hours. Stack Mod along with 5 x multiplier for harvesting and 8 x on taming, makes it doable without too much time needed as well. Seems there is someone who has no knowledge on Ark Server Settings, I do as I ran my own server in ASE already.
They made one of the worst choices anyone can ever make... they signed on with a Chinese company. Snails games has been nothing but a detriment to Ark. That's not the say that the devs have ever really had their acts together... Ark has always been a mess. 10 years in "early access", with the same bugs and issues for most of that time. They had a good idea, one so good that we all forgave the nonsense for an astonishing amount of time, but now they want to re-release that same idea when we all still have access to the original. Its not going to work. Maybe if ASA improved anything it would be a different story, but the same bugs and glitches that were in ASE for years magically continue into the "complete rework" of ASA. They did a copy/paste into unreal 5 with a few mods added to the base game, pretended it was more than that, and told us to buy it... people only believe the nonsense for so long.
Snail has owned Wildcard and the Ark IP since December of 2015, or roughly 97% of the existence of both. ASA was and still is only a way for the company to HOPE to keep going. Its treading water with the sharks(their debt/loans) circling. As time continues, expect the desperation tactics for cash grabbing with anything muck that they can throw at the wall to see what sticks and more dollaring to death to come. As Buzz said, when you look at, its just a crash/shutdown looking for a place to happen at this point.

Mods on console and the better graphics was enough for me. It's also $40 which isn't even full game cost of $60 or $70 which is more common. And by now it's on game pass. It was a broken game in evolved. It's still broken in ascended but I never paid for evolved and ascended was enough of a difference that I'm willing to play it. I get why people aren't getting it, and I get why other people are.
The funny thing is, I still don't believe it was made from scratch. It was just shit ported into the UE5. And the biggest bummer is this cloud stuff. I don't like it and it just makes mapping more difficult. But it seems that the focus here is only on normal modding anyway.
It’s not made from the ground up, as u said it’s ported over, there’s bugs from 8 years ago present in it, hell the majority of ASE glitches and bugs are in ASA with even more added on top from all the “new features” they introduced… I’ve checked the source code, dev kit, game files, etc, from a programmers POV the game in its current state is being held together by duct tape, glue and prayers, it’s insane, there’s no coherence or consistency, an absolute clusterfuck to look at. U can tell there’s no heart in it, quite sad honestly.

Honestly they could have added another unofficial map or two with some new creatures, done some TLC's of old creatures and maps, and finished off fixing some big bugs for A:SE.
I'm still hosting my origional Ark Survival Evolved server, too many of my freinds just can't buy a new PC just to run the new game and I mod the heck out of my personal server. I have over 4k hours in the origional and have no desire to try the remastered. I would have gladly spent money on creatures to download for my server, cosmetics, and ect just to continue to support the origional game.
@@LtBuzzLitebeer I mean I don't play ark for it to be visually stunning. I play ark to get my face chewed off in the first three minutes of the game when I'm being naked and afraid on the beach listening to everything around me because I refuse to adjust my gamma to make the game easier.
Asa should have heen a free graphical upgrade like the ceo openly stated it would be. They brought it on themselves and its sad as i kove the new graphics
Tbf, if it DID end up as an update, it would have to have been an optional DLC-like one, or a LOT of players would be blocked from playing because just like right now a lot of them aren't able to run ASA.

I still have Ark, the original, on my computer and have no intention to buy the new game. I know a lot of people who just said "effit" and de-installed the game once things got bad. It's painful.
I hopped on a server that said the ping was 90. Once I joined it was over 400. I asked about it and was told that's just the entire game. I confirmed. Every server I joined had a ping far far higher than what was shown at the server screen. This game is a mess in so many ways
I’m in the weird position of having discovered Ark Survival Evolved only a few months ago. I play a mixture of single player and having found a suitable unofficial server cluster multiplayer. I’m happy. I recently Ascended, played through Crystal Isle and grabbed a nice few Crystal Wyverns. Today I literally transitioned into Scorched Earth and I’m having a great time adapting to my new environment. I had the amazing good fortune of spawning within running distance of the green obelisk. Within minutes I had my 24 (four were transferred in cryopods) chosen tames and the bunch of items and resources I’d left myself. If you’re reading this as a veteran Ark player you can probably imagine just how much fun I’m having as a newer player just discovering things for the first time. Scorched Earth is proving to be an interesting experience even though I was wondering how they would avoid making a desert map boring. I’m still saving up for a PS5 so ASA isn’t an option for me. But even if I did, I’m not sure I would go for it though admittedly the Shasta is tempting for one obsessed with mobile bases. I’m not sure that I like what I see from ASA and potentially Ark 2 with the constant cash grabs. Since I’m happy with ASE and I have a lot of content to get through I’m in a position to wait and see m.
Asa is definitely not this experience so if this is what you like then stay here asa was a cash grab for the pvp nerds who were forced to buy the game since official servers went down the pve aspect is so much better in old ark and the amount of content is not even comparable
I’m right there with you! When you ascended did you get to keep certain things? Also did you get out on scratched earth right after? I can’t find exact answers on what happens after you ascend
@@Mediocre_Mistake I did this all in solo mode, so I’m not sure how it works with multiplayer, so keep this in mind. I personally would have lost everything that I had on me during the Tek Cave run and Overseer fight, but I picked the Fjordhawk as my shoulder pet so it brought everything back to me when I respawned. You could also get around it by stuffing everything into the inventory of any surviving tames but you’re on a strict time limit before the cutscene plays so it might not be enough time. Honestly though it’s probably wise to plan to lose everything in your inventory when going into the Tek Cave. Also once you defeat the Overseer, throw off your shoulder pet because it can get bugged and disappear if you ascend with it still on your shoulder. As for what happens, a few seconds after you defeat the Overseer, you get a cutscene and the credits (skippable thankfully) the game will return to the main start menu. If you choose host/local and access your Island save file to resume playing, the game will behave as though you died. Just select the bed or spawn point you want and your character will wake up naked like you died. The difference is that when you do, your character will have a new kind of specimen implant on his/her wrist with the colour depending on which version you beat. You’ll also have the new level cap depending on the version you beat. (Gamma, Beta or Alpha.) I personally chose to respawn in my main base and had a full spare set of gear stored nearby and a flying mount waiting outside. Also, the game is really picky about the Tek armour and weapon I wore during the Tek Cave. None of it or the Element I had returned even though I used the Fjordhawk. I’d suggest taking a little Element as possible with you to the Tek Cave. Now, the tames. After you fight your way to the teleport pad at the end of the Tek Cave, you can only take twenty tames with you to the Overseer despite being allowed fifty for the cave. *Any tames that don’t teleport to the Overseer fight will die.* There are a handful of species that are allowed in the Tek Cave but not in the Overseer area such as my Argentavis and those will die. (I have cave flying enabled.) Also, after you use the teleporter at the end of the Tek Cave, ensure that you have them follow you around since the fight doesn’t start right away and you get to do some exploring to learn about the lore. Don’t be tempted to scout ahead on your own. Bring your tames along with you. After a bit of walking around you’ll eventually reach the boss arena where the fight will take place. It’s a huge room inside of corridors. When you get far enough into the big room, the door will shut behind you and the fight will begin. You won’t be able to go back and retrieve any tames you left behind so keep them with you. After you win, any tames not in the battle area will also die. When you respawn after ascending, any tames that survived the Overseer fight will be waiting for you just outside the Tek Cave door at the volcano. You can just travel there to retrieve them. After that you can continue to play normally on the Island. If you want to go to a different map such as Scorched Earth you can use the character upload feature at an Obelisk. The game won’t force you to Scorched Earth or anything. Anyway, this was a bit of a lengthy comment but I wanted to help make sure that you’ll be fully prepared. I opted to make three conga lines with my tames to get as many into the Tek Cave during the five minute time limit as possible. It’s also a good way to minimise the risk of your tames falling into the lava. Be prepared to lose a lot of the tames you bring. I bred them a lot and kept a bunch of eggs and babies to replace them later. I hope this helps.
I am an ark veteran. Played since day 1 launch on ASE. (Used to be a die hard pvp player) but I have been on ASA since a couple weeks after it launched. It gets alot of hate but it's actually really good. The micro transactions are nothing to me. I buy them because 5 bucks for a fire kitty is reasonable to me. I like it. My girlfriend and I run a unofficial pve cluster for both ASE and ASA and to be completely honest I haven't touched ASE in months other than to clean up our maps. I have a ton of fun playing with the mods and for me it changed the game. (I play on PS5 so never got to try pc mods on ASE) Admittedly the game can be frustrating at times particularly when a new map is released but overall I haven't enjoyed ark like this in years. To each their own but I would recommend trying it out if you eventually get a new Gen console
Honestly, for me, even with all the horrible decisions and pay to win bs I’d still love to play it. My problem is that public servers were always toxic so my friends and I used to rent a private server but when Nitrado got the exclusivity deal they made the prices more than double what it used to be. I just can’t justify spending another $250 a year for a server.

I have 1410 hours in Ark Survival Evolved. I will not buy Asended or Ark 2. This company is garbage tier with the way they have handled this. It's an absolute shame.
12:02 honestly this deterioration is visible in almost the entire industry at this point. Like I wish games would go back to the way they were 10 years ago honestly. Back when DLC was an actual thing that you bought separate. Back when expansion packs were the norm. Let me buy the $20 expansion to the game maybe then they will put the proper effort into it to have a finished product upon release.
Ascended is a worthless cash grab. I refuse to buy it until it hits 95% off or hits the $5 price point. I've stopped playing ARK:SE at this point as well. It's just not worth my time anymore. The uTX crap just isn't going to cut it either. I refuse to buy into that CRAP entirely. The mismanagement of the ARK:SE money is STAGGERING. ARK, in my opinion and as far as I'm concerned, is done. Stick a fork in it, dig a hole, toss it in then cover it up like a cat covers up its own leavings. That's what ARK is to me now. I've even uninstalled ARK:SE at this point... After 4,907.9 hours... It's been retired from my collection.

I remember people trying to rag in me for no longer hosting an Ascended server, and no longer playing the game lol. I could just see it wasn't worth it. I'm honestly surprised they haven't declared bankruptcy and shut it all down.
@@zachfitzgerald7304 but the adverse side to that is having your own base meshed by cheaters. Having 13k hours in evolved, I can tell you, I'd rather die to mesh every now and then, and keep the cheaters at bay.
I truly cant believe the turn this game took. Back when I started in 2015 I would of never thought this game would end up like it did.. :( Snail Games really mismanaged their money and are bankrupting them putting them into a rushed mess creating the disaster we have today. I PRAY to the gaming gods Microsoft or some rich company just buys them out and re-creates ASA from the ground up fixing so many bugs and issues and giving us what we were promised and ultimately paid for. I really do think that ark could of been the best survival pvp game if they just stuck to the whole dinosaur thing, got rid of all tek, focused on balancing the game instead of adding a bunch of filler trash, cracked down on cheaters and made stuff harder to raid similar to rust

@SimplyTexy for me also (still play ark SE) the maps that I play 99% of the time are the island, centre and scortched earth, occasionally rag,Val,fjordur and lost island. But mostly the Originals. The maps seemed to be more along my line of survival. Adding in reapers, ferox, gatcha's. All the exclusive tech creatures, shadowmanes etc ruined it. They created a world. A simulation that the player learns the rules of. They changed the rules with all the bullshit tech stuff. Just look at the dinosaur variants at launch versus what exists today and you'll see that at launch alnost all dinosaurs were based on real depictions from history. That's immersive. I can by the simulation thing as a method of creating the world. But look at the state now, its got nothing to do with dinosaurs and more to do with 'fuck it make something up and make it stronger than all the others so people will want to buy it'. Oasisaur! Flaming shadowmane!. I know because it's a simulation they could technically do whatever they want and it still be believable it that reality and for those that want that good on them. But it's not what I wanted for the game at all.
@@sammoretti8655 Completely agreed, like I'm fine with dlc creatures and items but I think they should stay on the map they came out on the fact that you can transfer them is beyond stupid. I thought aberration was great at least until they let you transfer mana's and blood stalkers to the map, they completely ruined it. scorched brought the no skill weapon aka the flame thrower and wyverns kinda took over but they weren't too op until you could breed them for mutations. Crystal wyverns, manas, shadowmanes and all the other dlc crap (including weapons/items) ruined all the og maps which were my favorite and my whole reason for buying the game. (oh yeah and gen2 free tek suits, op drops and broken shop completely killed it for me)

A LOT of players saw the island graphics update and have been holding their breath waiting for the release of Aberration. Not to mention ANOTHER engine upgrade? How WC handles these two things will def determine the fate of ASA. As for premium mods. Modders have said that Curseforge is reaching out to modders and pushing them to release premium content. This angers me. I have supported modding projects i believed in through patreon donations. And now, after already having given the modder money, CF wants to push us to pay AGAIN? No. I'm sorry. Give modders key-codes to give to their past supporters... the map i helped fund in ASE was ABANDONED when ASA came out and now the modder is msking it premium. Ridiculous. And why? He says CF kept hounding him.

I really hope you are able to seek medical care for your eyesight or psychological care for your trouble with reading comprehension or if this is an effort to troll me. The graphics update i stated was between ASE and ASA luv, not the upcoming update. Unreal already stated it is mainly a performance upgrade. But how that upgrade impacts the performance with reguards to ASA? No one will know for sure until it hits. On low graphics settings, WC performance upgrades mean worse graphics but fewer crashes. So all we can do is wait and see. Take care and I hope you find something more constructive to do in the meantime that brings you joy.
I played Ark way back when it was first released, it had a tonne of bugs and the learning curve was brutal but I loved it, it's one of those time sink games that you can quite literally get lost in, me and my mates got obliterated raiding the servers biggest clan (we had no clue), we got stompted by 9 T-Rex and turrets and that signalled the end of our clan, upkeep and progress became a chore and I eventually stopped logging in. A couple of weeks ago I was feeling nostalgic and fired up Ark Survival Evolved on single player and immediately fell in love with the game again, I've just discovered the site of our old base and I placed a memorial sign on the hill where my mate AFK''d and died to ants. I like the option of being able to put the game on hold rather than the game putting your life on hold.
Lost all my gear on the Center due to Crash and 30 min not being able to log back in. I was like no biggie I’ll go to the Island and get the Artifacts. Same thing happened, while exiting the Pack cave game started acting weird DC’d took half an hour to log in. Lost all my gear and the podded tames. It’s garbage!
Man, i grew up playing ark. Its one of my favorite games of all time, but the absolute mismanagement of this ip from both wild card and snail games is really killing it. I hope some other actually responsible company ends up buying wildcard and has good management and makes sure that game development goes smoothly
Just got through playing Ark SE on a private server in October 2024 shortly after making some new friends online. We were playing another hosted game and got to reminiscing about Ark and it's overhaul mods (e.g. Primal Fear and Omega). We had a blast. Ark SE is still so repayable. Can't speak on Ascended since I haven't bought it.
I don't think ASA's a failure, I think it's just not done. It took ASE like 8 years to be stable/playable. They just don't focus on glitches/bugs/crashes nearly as much as they need to.
The problem with Ark, and Atlas, is the Devs spent more time creating the next new thing than fixing the issues that already existed. Because they added new stuff, they had even more stuff to fix. Ark never truly left Beta, in any of its versions. I started playing Ark in Beta, in 2016. I lived through the psychotic during exploits, the Devs giving insane tames to people (and getting fired)... and much more. What killed the game for my Tribe was losing all of our Boss Tames to a glitch. We entered the boss fight about 30 seconds before another tribe. We hadn't even made contact with the boss when all of a sudden we all died, our tames died, and the other tribe was literally teleported to the drop inside of our base walls... and promptly killed by our turrets. When we contacted the Devs they offered to replace our bred lol 350+ Rexes with level 224, IE perfect tame 150 rexes. We ended up quitting after that.

I have hundreds of hours into ASE and I personally prefer ASA, to me it feels more immersive. I have a medium PC and I have minimal lag spikes on high graphics settings. Its really not THAT bad.
I'm running Linux on a very modern, quite powerful gaming computer. Ark:SE is available for me. Ark:SA is not. I used to play with my brother, now I just play with whatever streamer fits my standards for playing Ark:SE. I even find sometimes myself wanting to host my own server to give a little challenge to some hardcore PvE players.
Honestly the Ark fanbase is in denial. The biggest problem is they all know the game is getting shittier and shittier due to wild card and snails incompitance and accept the trash anyways. Also the pvp side people practically live in this game and are obsessed with it and defend obvious issues. Many old problems still persist in ark scam ascended which gets the “it’s in early access” excuse which should not apply and the delusional take that this is all new code when it’s a low quality graphics upgrade. Wildcard knows everyone can be taken advantage of cause of how gullible and defensive the fanbase can get. Along with the pvp survival community flocking to any survival game during the hype train then quitting it a few months later when no one plays anymore. Honestly rust and Conan are the only pvp survival games are polished and balanced around small groups, solo, and large groups. One other thing is many popular pvp TH-camrs which are basically the face of the community still support the game despite getting fucked over many times by wildcard and snail. Like the tea tribe banning incident in evolved. I feel if these TH-camrs finally quit eventually the rest will follow.
They don't understand that in order to bankrupt wildcard ( which should be everyone's goal, the game Is broken beyond repair. Noone escapes justice ) they need to quit.
the "fanbase" has no choice of whether to "accept" something or not. the company releases what they want and theres nothing u can do about it. Its not a low quality graphics upgrade...its the best graphics engine in the world...the fact you are trying to bash it means you have a shit pc and cant run it properly.
@cloudnine5651 the graphics aren't an issue directly, however less optimal pc's amounts to less players causing the multiplayer experience to become stale. Asa has other issue too like bugs, less players and microtransactions. The game is dead

I think the worst part of ASA was how many people it left behind because of its system reqs, honestly killed the fun for me when most of my old tribe mates from ASE couldnt join in. More paid dlcs in ASE, which most dedicated players were willing to pay for, was the right direction, they really fumbled rereleasing graphically updated maps which we had already played before.
I'm trapped playing Ascended... 😔 I have no community to play with and its near impossible to find them online. It sucks and I wish this all never happened and we were able to keep ASE online and give it the QOL upgrades it needed for free.
im sorry but you are wrong in so many ways. People are just jaded AF. Ascended is awesome but not enough content yet. it is basically the same as skyrim enhanced but better. Ya there's still some kinks. like any game but it runs so much better than evolved. The game is just too big to do all at once. Also.. if you are not playing with mods you are not getting the full experience. granted that it sucks to pay for some mods but i think its good for people to be able to freelance their hard work.
The game needs alot. Like real missions, villages we can raid or team up with, the ability to climb without oicks and the ability to dodge. The pvp aervers should not allow cave building. There needs to be something to help with insiding, and offline raids. Offline raids and insiding is the worse. Its the number one things that make people quit. The bad thing is megatribes are having people join snall tribes to inside them or go out and offline raid a small tribe. If anyone wonders why the game is dead. Its the toxic players that killed it.
Most dont play the official servers with ASA nor did that with ASE either. Half of all servers for ASA are also pvp but that means the other half are pve (that's including the small number of official servers with the larger number of unofficials). WC's focus is on mtx's and profit sharing from promotion of premium mod etc. Their money woes dictate more their push/marketing that the minority who play on the official pvp servers. Any content they can monetize where they can get most to buy it is where its going.
That and the terrible balancing and mismanagement on wild card and snail games. I mean look at last oasis. TBH that game has a way more engaging enjoyable pvp but died due to same problem incompetent devs and balance issues. If that game came around the time pvp survival games started becoming a trend. It would have been given a pass just like Ark. if Ark was released in modern day it will be shitted on by the consumers like Asa. The only ones that even like Asa are the migrated players from ASE players that are in denial.

I 100% blame snail games after all the shit that’s come out about them, wildcard has made some amazing shit with Ark evolved. And even in ascended which has so much quality of life stuff. But the literal black mail and corruption and greed and racism might I add. That goes on at snail games. I’m convinced that all of this is their fault.
ascended killed me on the lack of terrain textures on the island. the changed everything to sand stone, black sandy beaches at the base of the volcano, nope tan color now. lava in the caldera nope tan, all the nice grey stone and muddy river beds, sand fucking stone color. what did they do not buy a larger texture pack in UE5? or did they lose the textures from the original.
Can I get some outrage on Switch users behave? It took a year for Gen 2 to release and with it came the announcement that the last five community maps are cancelled. And now Grove Street is working on monetizing Ark Mobile.
I agree! I play it on the Switch since all my nieces and nephews have them. I have ran a Rag server for them since it came out. Was looking forward to showing them more maps. So disappointing.

I left when players continued to monopolize solo servers. I also had a problem with players dragging me into their pvp wars. I wasn't allowed to meet people and enjoy the game.
The problem with current official is all the cheating whether it be meshing, aim bot, esp, DDOS servers to flood, or duping. You can put in all the hours you want and it'll be taken away by one a player or group of players using those methods to get the upper hand.
I bought ascended with some friends because we all like to play ark together, I’ll continue to play but it makes me sad that Ark 2 will most likely never come and as soon as the rest of the maps and dinos are rolled out Ark as a franchise might not continue
I always thought ARK would be a realistic survival simulator when i saw that first trailer launch. I bought my first desktop to play this game. But it turned out very, very different, surely a unique mix of dinosaurs, monsters, aliens, scifi. tribalism and empires. But the game really made no sense once dinosaurs were parked in garages you build and send out to harvest wood or rock. Had some fun and great moments but it never turned out to what I liked it to be. I guess i was expecting tribal levels of technology vs dinosaurs. But for many it turned out what a lot of people wanted and enjoyed.
Okay, Here's the thing: ARK Ascended is NOT that bad. It really isn't and I'm tired of the doom and gloom surrounding it. As someone who owns both games and has played tons of hours on both, I honestly without any doubts, prefer ascended over evolved. I tried going back to evolved after playing ascended, and I just couldn't because of all the jank and settings you have to tweak to get things perfect. You don't have to do that in Ascended at all, though performance is not as good because of the high-res textures and graphics. Is it perfect? No. Does it meet the super high expectations the community (and to some extent Wildcard themselves) set for it? No. Is it good? Yes. I can tell you very simply, that If you're going to play both games, at their base levels, you'll prefer ascended. What people miss are all the maps that evolved had, but forget that it took several years for them to make each one. In theory, it shouldn't take long to re-make them, but in practice, there's always delays and hiccups in the process. The maps will come out, and they will be fine but probably have bugs. The worst I've had in Ascended has been anti-mesh issues, which from what I can tell are the same ones they had in the evolved. Yes, this is something that you'd expect wouldn't happen in a remastered version, but the fact that it does, doesn't make it any WORSE than what you've got. In addition, I only have noticed these kinds of issues in PvP. When I play single player, I have experienced very rare issues of crashing (like 3 times ever) and 0 mesh issues. Granted, what I played in SP was scorched earth, not the center, like I did with PvP. As for the paid DLC "pay to win" I keep seeing. People constantly forget that Ark has ALWAYS been "pay to win" because each and every time they release a DLC, that DLC is loaded with so many overpowered creatures or has easier access to resources than the previous maps. And you can't make saddles for any of those creatures without owning the DLC. If you play on an open map that allows for transfers, you're going to find Wyverns on the Island, because someone owns scorched earth and brought it over. You couldn't even play scorched earth without owning it. All that's happening with Bob's and Pyromane is that they are NEW. Pyromane is stand-alone so that's why it feels bad, but ark has always been this way. Please don't act like it hasn't.
I don't think the problem is asa being "horrible". The real issue is in the fact that it's simply not good enough to justify the price. If they focused on things the community actually wanted, optimized the game, fixed the bugs, handled the cheaters better people would be more willing to buy it. But they are trying to sell asa as an upgrade, when the core issues are still there. I don't care about graphics if my dinos can still fall through the mesh. I don't care about character customization if my pc explodes when i try to run it. Some things were acceptable in ase because it was new, cool and innovative so mistakes were to be expected. With years of experience, development and player feedback, people just had much higher expectations of ascended and they obviously weren't met. And with obvious cash grabs not even a full year into the launch, the game's reputation sunk even further. Yes, Scorched earth gave those who were willing to pay access to wyverns, but it was also a full new map that would justify the price. Pyromane is simply a p2w addition for pvp with no actual value outside of it. If ase still has twice as much players as asa, there has to be a reason why. Unless they tackle some core issues with the game and optimize it better, i don't have a reason to buy asa because it simply doesn't offer me enough. I hope this makes more sense now
All i know is that even if they somehow make it to Ark 2 launch i will not be buying it. The entire charm of Ark was its dinosaur survival aspect. A lore heavy, soulslike combat game Ark 2 is supposed to be will never take off within the community. They just said fuck it and made something new without actually thinking about what their community wants. They fucked up everything and have been doing it for years at this point. I really hope someone competent will end up buying Wildcard and bring the game back to what it should've been.
Its been out for almost a year and I can’t play single player with no mods without crashing every 10 minutes, I play on a new gen console and the game is so fucking poorly optimized and “updated” that it crashes the whole game not just back to menu. Be happy your lucky enough to be able to run it
The only thing that could help Ark at this point is the decoupling of Wildcard and Snail. Imagine how Ark would be if they partnered with Epic or Valve instead
Asa is NOT running UE 5.2. That why it runs so bad. ASE is (UE 4.5 which from 2015) and never bothered upgrade to newer version UE 4.27. Yet on Twitter or x, they said they going bring ASE upto UE 4.27 then to UE 5.2. It never happened. ASE is still using UE 4.5. They lazy slapped ASE into UE 5.0 or 5.1. And left it. Slap on few tweeks for Asa and called it done. Thus why they are quickly upgrading UE 5.4, Cus they see how badly Asa runs even on 4090. They also said Vulkan.api support was suppose come ASE. It never happened as we all know. Steam deck is proof vulkan works when devs do the proper homework.
Ascended is fine with me. 2000hrs on evolved since it hit steam. Ascended is cool with me. I like the knew build system. Character creation. graphically beautiful. I don't see what you're all crying about. You act like you've never bought a game from a shady dev .
People need to realise, Ark Ascended is not only a reskin, but it hasnt had all of the content implemented yet, yes there are the odd new dino, but thats not a reason to play it, never the less to even bother buying it. It offers less content than Ark 1, and mods add even more content ontop of it.

It's not that it's a "bad" game. It's shady business practice, pay to win, and micro transactions that drove players away. Trust me, it's not biased. I have 4k hours logged and loved SE. SA is fun and I love the graphic improvement but it doesn't hit the same.
So their stock trading for 3 months below a dollar, small layoff in may at WC, position shuffling like cedric and dollie's positions, grovestreet scaling back on their work for Wildcard for ASA, Ark2 according to the last thing Jeremy said on it is that the team instead is focused instead on ASA, and more... Just because the facts do not match the reality you seem to wish doesnt change what's transpiring. The financials anyone can go see on Snail Game's website's Quarterly reports show they're not in good shape and from a business standpoint, are just simply treading water.
Maybe we get lucky and a good studio picks it up and gives it the love it deserves. it's always sad when a studio struggles and dies. even sadder when it takes a great idea/mechanic with it.
Ark is a fun game and very unique .... but the way the game was handled, was always bad: from it's unsustainable DLC based monetization, piss-poor optimization (Evolved is still poorly optimized - hardware has just caught up to it over time), bugs becoming as ancient as fossils themselves, deadline blunders, PVP balancing being routinely sacrafized for P2W nonsense, etc. This remaster serves no purpose whatsoever. Who fancies a remaster, when the OG game is still around and well, has far more content and part 2 is (allegedly) around the corner? Especially when said remaster incurs a bunch of workload and dials up the bad optimization to dreadful levels. This was nothing but a half hearted cash-grab that axed the community in two for no good reason whatsoever. They had a good thing going and they blew it.
This was one of the first games I ever bought, had to ask my dad if I could first, soooooooo many good memories. The old days of it will never be forgotten, hate seeing this now

Wildcard had a shady start. Wildcard failed to fix major bugs for over 8 years. Wildcard is now controlled by Snail games, another (possibly even shadier) company. They decide to try to force players to pay for something they basically already bought a second time, with microtransactions thrown in. Oh and it comes with a whole slew of new bugs, less freedom (server hosting choices are gone), and a fractured player base. Yeah I think the ARK IP may rot thanks to almost a decade of poor decisions. What a shame. Enshitification claims another victim.
They should do 2 things: 1) lower the price of the new version FOR people who has the old one 2) lower the timer for taming in official servers That s all but guess they didn t thought
Also every patch ark copies parts of it's code into redundancies, that's why your game is 100+ gb. Back when scorched earth came out, I was sitting at 127 gb, I had to uninstall and reinstall just to reduce it's size to 70 gb. I had to do that about 2x a month.
I can't believe I say that today, but after several thousands of ours in ASE and nearly 1 thousand in ASA, but trying to play ASA today made me no longer enjoy it. I've got the impression ASA is meanwhile in such a broken condition that I feel like trying to play a pre-alpha game. I'm super sad. The main reason for me playing ARK was always the fun of releasing my "inner architect", building structures (something I'm not able to do in real-life), interacting with animals, taming them, breeding them. Using them as a "replacement" for the usual "upgrade your gear, find better gear", enjoying the beauty of the environment..... all that compared to the "usual quest-grinding", go there, do that style of games we have nowadays... the freedom of doing things in a game that is not bound to something like a hard progression-based thing. It just feels like it's getting worse and worse, with every map release and as I said, it's the first time for me, that I no longer enjoy it and that makes me super sad and I would feel ashamed as a developer (me being self one) releasing something like this to the public or even friends (and yes I know, it's still "early" access, but no excuse imho).
Idk Im on ps5 and Im very happy bcs we've got mods for us console players thats a huge change and definitely worth a new buy! Of course I wish they've made more new stuff and better graphics but the happiness about the mods is definitely winning for me.

Yup, I was so done with Snail/Wildcard that I quit ASE like a week before official servers were shutdown. All that time and effort gone. No way I was going to get ASA. I only come back to ASE after starting my own server.
I don't even want a 'souls like game' or 'genre defining parkour.' I want Ark 2. A game with stunning graphics about surviving and taming dinosaurs using innovations on the most popular mod ideas- like immersive taming, wild breeding, wild egg collection, and robust building aesthetics and options. Flying that feels like flying (with flyer leveling ON), and a game that is fun in pvp as much as it is solo. NPC tribes would be a huge and amazing improvement. Maybe even spouses and dependents to build and care for. Tech is cool, rockets on my dino is cool (I guess) but dinosaurs will always be king and if this goes too story linear heavy and not sandboxy build something from nothing, it's doomed to fail anyway. I'm already not looking forward to famous male actor playing male one and daughter 2 with forced cutscenes and story I didn't expect or ask for.
I'll be honest, I did buy ASA and really tried to like it as much as ASE, but it just sucks The Island, the same shit in a pretty wrapper, ran like garbage even with my PC upgraded (I upgraded for Starfield and should have handled ASA just as easily). Official Server ran like dogshit. Scorched, looks nicer but that was it, lasted about 50-60 hours and got bored, been there, done that The Center, honestly not even sure why they released this one, no one played in ASE let alone ASA Aberration, this one could be the best one for the ASA Upgrade, it was already the best map IMHO, and a massive texture upgrade alone might make it worth playing again But biggest killer for me, 3 1/2 years on Official ASE, I had every dino in max bred mode, Trexes with Max Melee, Gigas with Max Melee , Argies with Max Weight. I really don't want to spend the massive 8.8k hours time sink doing all that again on the same game If it was Ark 2 and they improved the breeding so that its viable for new players to breed instead of mining metal and Element to make Tek Floors, Ceilings and shit and then buying the latest mutated dinos it might be worth it
I loved the raw, high-stakes challenge and the simplicity of being dropped into a world both beautiful and hostile. It was exciting, but now it feels like the core appeal of the game is being overlooked.
The only reason Ascended even has mixed reviews is thanks to console players. Not only is it a premium experience they've never experience, but for the first time has allowed access to a whole host of community mods, which being honest, are doing the heavy lifting in keeping the game alive right now. Both for player count and social media traction. And wildcard know this, making sure to highlight new mods weekly on all their social media accounts to keep the players they have left happy, and potentially reel in some ASE players.
Calling things out is great and all, but hating on the pay to win addons "that deserve the hate" is not helping the studio, there arent many good games, and the good ones are region locked, for me persoanally, ARK 2 is kind of my last hope to sink some hours into gaming before I can't do that anymore.
One thing game developers need to understand above all else is that in this far advanced day of computing your game had better run LIKE A DREAM with A LOT of SIMULTANEOUS PLAYERS. There is simply no excuse for this not to be the case. From the get go this has to be prioritized and everything else built around that. Our computers now can run maybe not cutting edge but PRETTY DAMN GOOD graphics with a shitload on the screen with no lag if you do it right, and if you don't you look dumb af and everyone knows it. People so backwards.
There is no pay to win system, stop copying things you've read online, the only thing you could possibly class as pay to win is the pyromane, which is basically a shadowmane, they have also been nerfed

You know things are pretty bad when map fixes come 2 months too late when transfers are already opened and everyone has moved to the next map. Fixes come way too slow, and sometimes it takes multiple patches/rollbacks to "attempt" or "iterate" on fixes. They are still trying to fix invisible Dragon ffs. That alone says it all.

Its so painful watching executives have less business acumen than a toddler.... like seriously how do the shareholders not vote them out? They have that power. If I owned stock in Snail, I'd be livid and calling for the entire executive team to be replaced every single day.
Honestly the only thing I would want from ASA are the player animations, the ability to switch ammo on the fly etc. with a wheel menu, and the building mechanics ported over to ASE. I play PVE with a few friends and the ability to just walk is awesome for streaming and immersion imo. Loved and still play ASE but it's a little jarring now to go back to the player animations and clunky mechanics at least for me.
Lol they tried to get me to spend another 60 dollars on the same game that i already owned. With a track record of shady developers not fixing the problems that existed in the normal game. So glad I didn't waste my money on the cash grab that was ascended. Only way I'm coming back is if the franchise gets sold. If they were smart they would fire everyone delete every line of code and start from scratch. Make the game free and lean heavily into selling cosmetics.-Just one guys opinion

ASA has frustrated me to no end. But ASE frustrated me even more. I do think some major changes have made it overall more playable, e.g. bluescreening. not as many disconnects for me on ps5. But decisions made and other game breaking bugs have arose.

You forgot to mention that Wildcard had a small layoff(google news on that) back in May and that Cedric was removed as community manager taking a "data" position instead and Dollie was removed from her previous position to be now the community manager. Both to me are demotions in my book. The xbox gamescon snafu is likely due to dollie but also could be due to someone taking an old list of attendees/plans and doing a write up and it not being properly proof read before going out by xbox people too. I'd like to, chalk it up to WC making the error but who knows. Both of us have been for a long time now saying this whole situation is a shutdown waiting for a place to happen and its looking more and more likely as they desperately push the mod microtransactions, that silly ark club nintendo mini games nonsense and essentially focus more on mtx than anything else. Its all just a mess.
@jamieward2880 Oh no no... the issues with both the financial decisions and game ones have been around long before Shi Hai who decided he wanted to launch that ridiculous gaming comp EV car company. Once you look into decision makers more closely with Ark(Wildcard) you also see some disconcerting things(ie Steiglitz and his troubles even before starting Wildcard, Kennedy(ceo and pretty out there trump supporter who likes to talk about his nonense views on linkedin) and the list goes on. Its just that people haven really pulled the curtain back enough before the last couple years to see what's been actually going on that led to where things are now.
There is no way you called ASA p2w. If its true then evolved was too. Pretty much any dino from later dlc than island powercreeps any dinos there. Thats just how dlcs worked then and still work now.

It is still a all time great. im playing Ark survival and have not bought new one yet. i want to run it in all its glory so will wait till i upgrade my graphics card, i see it had already been on a discount two weeks ago so i will pick new one up for cheap im sure and enjoy the same cool gameplay with new graphics :D. Im not too phased about new dlc dino's but i can see how it can ruin the game going forward.

As of August 4th, Ascended has just over 18k players in-game. Evolved has over 37k. That alone speaks volumes. We didnt want a new game... we wanted an update and refresh/optimization of what we already had.

All I wanted was for Prim+ to be finished. I gave up on ark after it was apparent all they wanted to do was drip feed free maps over the span of a year and sell others at a BS price for a handful of new features with every map that just congested the game overall
People are unlikely to buy a game when countless tards online are trashing the game simply because they can not afford it/can't run it on their PC. The game is awesome to me and I bought evolved the first day it hit steam.

ASE was awesome until they started adding tech stuff, and it steadily got worse from their. Don't disregard the massive data downloads with every patch resetting data, and the pay to win creatures implemented. Please don't respond if you won't even acknowledge half of the issues brought up.
They added extra locations on the maps, but alot of them have bad mesh and your creatures just fall straight through XD

I loved Ark, but my god, that game did not respect the player's time at all. I played with a 8 man team and it took an absolute century to finish The Island. Easily 80% of our playtime was just farming resources for a 40-80 minute exploration / set of cave runs.

@@Sharsis8you didn’t max the right stuff clearly. No hate just the server settings weren’t optimized for the playing experience you wanted since it sounds like you had your own server. I’ve played official rates and super boosted. I’ve settled onto a cluster with a good balance of gathering, taming and breeding rates. My resource runs are as needed and besides a few things I can gather them in one shot or I’ll grind out multiple runs in a row to be set for a long time. Again no hate just saying to keep adjusting it until you find what works for you
@@Sharsis8 sounds like you didn't tweak your server settings enough. Once I adjusted the settings enough resource harvesting wasn't much of an issue or breeding
@@Sharsis8 Lol, with my settings even a Giga Egg takes like half an hour to hatch, and combined with grow up less than 2.5 hours.
Stack Mod along with 5 x multiplier for harvesting and 8 x on taming, makes it doable without too much time needed as well.
Seems there is someone who has no knowledge on Ark Server Settings, I do as I ran my own server in ASE already.
They made one of the worst choices anyone can ever make... they signed on with a Chinese company. Snails games has been nothing but a detriment to Ark.
That's not the say that the devs have ever really had their acts together... Ark has always been a mess. 10 years in "early access", with the same bugs and issues for most of that time.
They had a good idea, one so good that we all forgave the nonsense for an astonishing amount of time, but now they want to re-release that same idea when we all still have access to the original. Its not going to work. Maybe if ASA improved anything it would be a different story, but the same bugs and glitches that were in ASE for years magically continue into the "complete rework" of ASA.
They did a copy/paste into unreal 5 with a few mods added to the base game, pretended it was more than that, and told us to buy it... people only believe the nonsense for so long.
Snail has owned Wildcard and the Ark IP since December of 2015, or roughly 97% of the existence of both. ASA was and still is only a way for the company to HOPE to keep going. Its treading water with the sharks(their debt/loans) circling. As time continues, expect the desperation tactics for cash grabbing with anything muck that they can throw at the wall to see what sticks and more dollaring to death to come. As Buzz said, when you look at, its just a crash/shutdown looking for a place to happen at this point.

Mods on console and the better graphics was enough for me. It's also $40 which isn't even full game cost of $60 or $70 which is more common. And by now it's on game pass. It was a broken game in evolved. It's still broken in ascended but I never paid for evolved and ascended was enough of a difference that I'm willing to play it. I get why people aren't getting it, and I get why other people are.
The funny thing is, I still don't believe it was made from scratch. It was just shit ported into the UE5. And the biggest bummer is this cloud stuff. I don't like it and it just makes mapping more difficult. But it seems that the focus here is only on normal modding anyway.
It’s not made from the ground up, as u said it’s ported over, there’s bugs from 8 years ago present in it, hell the majority of ASE glitches and bugs are in ASA with even more added on top from all the “new features” they introduced…
I’ve checked the source code, dev kit, game files, etc, from a programmers POV the game in its current state is being held together by duct tape, glue and prayers, it’s insane, there’s no coherence or consistency, an absolute clusterfuck to look at. U can tell there’s no heart in it, quite sad honestly.

I'm still hosting my origional Ark Survival Evolved server, too many of my freinds just can't buy a new PC just to run the new game and I mod the heck out of my personal server. I have over 4k hours in the origional and have no desire to try the remastered. I would have gladly spent money on creatures to download for my server, cosmetics, and ect just to continue to support the origional game.

I still have Ark, the original, on my computer and have no intention to buy the new game. I know a lot of people who just said "effit" and de-installed the game once things got bad. It's painful.
I hopped on a server that said the ping was 90. Once I joined it was over 400. I asked about it and was told that's just the entire game. I confirmed. Every server I joined had a ping far far higher than what was shown at the server screen. This game is a mess in so many ways

I’m in the weird position of having discovered Ark Survival Evolved only a few months ago. I play a mixture of single player and having found a suitable unofficial server cluster multiplayer.
I’m happy. I recently Ascended, played through Crystal Isle and grabbed a nice few Crystal Wyverns. Today I literally transitioned into Scorched Earth and I’m having a great time adapting to my new environment.
I had the amazing good fortune of spawning within running distance of the green obelisk. Within minutes I had my 24 (four were transferred in cryopods) chosen tames and the bunch of items and resources I’d left myself.
If you’re reading this as a veteran Ark player you can probably imagine just how much fun I’m having as a newer player just discovering things for the first time. Scorched Earth is proving to be an interesting experience even though I was wondering how they would avoid making a desert map boring.
I’m still saving up for a PS5 so ASA isn’t an option for me. But even if I did, I’m not sure I would go for it though admittedly the Shasta is tempting for one obsessed with mobile bases. I’m not sure that I like what I see from ASA and potentially Ark 2 with the constant cash grabs.
Since I’m happy with ASE and I have a lot of content to get through I’m in a position to wait and see m.
Asa is definitely not this experience so if this is what you like then stay here asa was a cash grab for the pvp nerds who were forced to buy the game since official servers went down the pve aspect is so much better in old ark and the amount of content is not even comparable

@@Mediocre_Mistake I did this all in solo mode, so I’m not sure how it works with multiplayer, so keep this in mind.
I personally would have lost everything that I had on me during the Tek Cave run and Overseer fight, but I picked the Fjordhawk as my shoulder pet so it brought everything back to me when I respawned. You could also get around it by stuffing everything into the inventory of any surviving tames but you’re on a strict time limit before the cutscene plays so it might not be enough time.
Honestly though it’s probably wise to plan to lose everything in your inventory when going into the Tek Cave. Also once you defeat the Overseer, throw off your shoulder pet because it can get bugged and disappear if you ascend with it still on your shoulder.
As for what happens, a few seconds after you defeat the Overseer, you get a cutscene and the credits (skippable thankfully) the game will return to the main start menu. If you choose host/local and access your Island save file to resume playing, the game will behave as though you died. Just select the bed or spawn point you want and your character will wake up naked like you died.
The difference is that when you do, your character will have a new kind of specimen implant on his/her wrist with the colour depending on which version you beat. You’ll also have the new level cap depending on the version you beat. (Gamma, Beta or Alpha.) I personally chose to respawn in my main base and had a full spare set of gear stored nearby and a flying mount waiting outside.
Also, the game is really picky about the Tek armour and weapon I wore during the Tek Cave. None of it or the Element I had returned even though I used the Fjordhawk. I’d suggest taking a little Element as possible with you to the Tek Cave.
Now, the tames. After you fight your way to the teleport pad at the end of the Tek Cave, you can only take twenty tames with you to the Overseer despite being allowed fifty for the cave. *Any tames that don’t teleport to the Overseer fight will die.* There are a handful of species that are allowed in the Tek Cave but not in the Overseer area such as my Argentavis and those will die. (I have cave flying enabled.)
Also, after you use the teleporter at the end of the Tek Cave, ensure that you have them follow you around since the fight doesn’t start right away and you get to do some exploring to learn about the lore. Don’t be tempted to scout ahead on your own. Bring your tames along with you.
After a bit of walking around you’ll eventually reach the boss arena where the fight will take place. It’s a huge room inside of corridors. When you get far enough into the big room, the door will shut behind you and the fight will begin. You won’t be able to go back and retrieve any tames you left behind so keep them with you. After you win, any tames not in the battle area will also die.
When you respawn after ascending, any tames that survived the Overseer fight will be waiting for you just outside the Tek Cave door at the volcano. You can just travel there to retrieve them. After that you can continue to play normally on the Island. If you want to go to a different map such as Scorched Earth you can use the character upload feature at an Obelisk. The game won’t force you to Scorched Earth or anything.
Anyway, this was a bit of a lengthy comment but I wanted to help make sure that you’ll be fully prepared. I opted to make three conga lines with my tames to get as many into the Tek Cave during the five minute time limit as possible. It’s also a good way to minimise the risk of your tames falling into the lava. Be prepared to lose a lot of the tames you bring. I bred them a lot and kept a bunch of eggs and babies to replace them later.

I am an ark veteran. Played since day 1 launch on ASE. (Used to be a die hard pvp player) but I have been on ASA since a couple weeks after it launched. It gets alot of hate but it's actually really good. The micro transactions are nothing to me. I buy them because 5 bucks for a fire kitty is reasonable to me. I like it. My girlfriend and I run a unofficial pve cluster for both ASE and ASA and to be completely honest I haven't touched ASE in months other than to clean up our maps. I have a ton of fun playing with the mods and for me it changed the game. (I play on PS5 so never got to try pc mods on ASE) Admittedly the game can be frustrating at times particularly when a new map is released but overall I haven't enjoyed ark like this in years. To each their own but I would recommend trying it out if you eventually get a new Gen console

Honestly, for me, even with all the horrible decisions and pay to win bs I’d still love to play it. My problem is that public servers were always toxic so my friends and I used to rent a private server but when Nitrado got the exclusivity deal they made the prices more than double what it used to be. I just can’t justify spending another $250 a year for a server.

Ascended is a worthless cash grab. I refuse to buy it until it hits 95% off or hits the $5 price point. I've stopped playing ARK:SE at this point as well. It's just not worth my time anymore. The uTX crap just isn't going to cut it either. I refuse to buy into that CRAP entirely. The mismanagement of the ARK:SE money is STAGGERING. ARK, in my opinion and as far as I'm concerned, is done. Stick a fork in it, dig a hole, toss it in then cover it up like a cat covers up its own leavings. That's what ARK is to me now. I've even uninstalled ARK:SE at this point... After 4,907.9 hours... It's been retired from my collection.

I truly cant believe the turn this game took. Back when I started in 2015 I would of never thought this game would end up like it did.. :( Snail Games really mismanaged their money and are bankrupting them putting them into a rushed mess creating the disaster we have today. @SimplyTexy for me also (still play ark SE) the maps that I play 99% of the time are the island, centre and scortched earth, occasionally rag,Val,fjordur and lost island. But mostly the Originals. The maps seemed to be more along my line of survival. Adding in reapers, ferox, gatcha's. All the exclusive tech creatures, shadowmanes etc ruined it. They created a world. A simulation that the player learns the rules of. They changed the rules with all the bullshit tech stuff. Just look at the dinosaur variants at launch versus what exists today and you'll see that at launch alnost all dinosaurs were based on real depictions from history. That's immersive. I can by the simulation thing as a method of creating the world. But look at the state now, its got nothing to do with dinosaurs and more to do with 'fuck it make something up and make it stronger than all the others so people will want to buy it'. Oasisaur! Flaming shadowmane!. I know because it's a simulation they could technically do whatever they want and it still be believable it that reality and for those that want that good on them. But it's not what I wanted for the game at all.

I thought aberration was great at least until they let you transfer mana's and blood stalkers to the map, they completely ruined it. scorched brought the no skill weapon aka the flame thrower and wyverns kinda took over but they weren't too op until you could breed them for mutations. Crystal wyverns, manas, shadowmanes and all the other dlc crap (including weapons/items) ruined all the og maps which were my favorite and my whole reason for buying the game. (oh yeah and gen2 free tek suits, op drops and broken shop completely killed it for me)

This angers me. I have supported modding projects i believed in through patreon donations. And now, after already having given the modder money, CF wants to push us to pay AGAIN? No. I'm sorry. Give modders key-codes to give to their past supporters... the map i helped fund in ASE was ABANDONED when ASA came out and now the modder is msking it premium. Ridiculous. And why? But how that upgrade impacts the performance with reguards to ASA? No one will know for sure until it hits. On low graphics settings, WC performance upgrades mean worse graphics but fewer crashes. I played Ark way back when it was first released, it had a tonne of bugs and the learning curve was brutal but I loved it, it's one of those time sink games that you can quite literally get lost in, me and my mates got obliterated raiding the servers biggest clan (we had no clue), we got stompted by 9 T-Rex and turrets and that signalled the end of our clan, upkeep and progress became a chore and I eventually stopped logging in. A couple of weeks ago I was feeling nostalgic and fired up Ark Survival Evolved on single player and immediately fell in love with the game again, I've just discovered the site of our old base and I placed a memorial sign on the hill where my mate AFK''d and died to ants. I like the option of being able to put the game on hold rather than the game putting your life on hold.
Lost all my gear on the Center due to Crash and 30 min not being able to log back in. I was like no biggie I’ll go to the Island and get the Artifacts. Same thing happened, while exiting the Pack cave game started acting weird DC’d took half an hour to log in. Lost all my gear and the podded tames. It’s garbage!

Man, i grew up playing ark. Its one of my favorite games of all time, but the absolute mismanagement of this ip from both wild card and snail games is really killing it. I hope some other actually responsible company ends up buying wildcard and has good management and makes sure that game development goes smoothly
Just got through playing Ark SE on a private server in October 2024 shortly after making some new friends online. We were playing another hosted game and got to reminiscing about Ark and it's overhaul mods (e.g. Primal Fear and Omega). We had a blast. Ark SE is still so repayable. Can't speak on Ascended since I haven't bought it.
I don't think ASA's a failure, I think it's just not done. It took ASE like 8 years to be stable/playable. They just don't focus on glitches/bugs/crashes nearly as much as they need to.

The problem with Ark, and Atlas, is the Devs spent more time creating the next new thing than fixing the issues that already existed.
Because they added new stuff, they had even more stuff to fix.
Ark never truly left Beta, in any of its versions.
I started playing Ark in Beta, in 2016. I lived through the psychotic during exploits, the Devs giving insane tames to people (and getting fired)... and much more.
What killed the game for my Tribe was losing all of our Boss Tames to a glitch. We entered the boss fight about 30 seconds before another tribe. We hadn't even made contact with the boss when all of a sudden we all died, our tames died, and the other tribe was literally teleported to the drop inside of our base walls... and promptly killed by our turrets.
When we contacted the Devs they offered to replace our bred lol 350+ Rexes with level 224, IE perfect tame 150 rexes.
We ended up quitting after that.
As a ark player I sincerely hope that ark 2 is gonna be an actual banger of a game otherwise this franchise might be fucked

I have hundreds of hours into ASE and I personally prefer ASA, to me it feels more immersive. I have a medium PC and I have minimal lag spikes on high graphics settings. Its really not THAT bad.
I'm running Linux on a very modern, quite powerful gaming computer. Ark:SE is available for me. Ark:SA is not. I used to play with my brother, now I just play with whatever streamer fits my standards for playing Ark:SE. I even find sometimes myself wanting to host my own server to give a little challenge to some hardcore PvE players.

Honestly the Ark fanbase is in denial. The biggest problem is they all know the game is getting shittier and shittier due to wild card and snails incompitance and accept the trash anyways. Also the pvp side people practically live in this game and are obsessed with it and defend obvious issues. Many old problems still persist in ark scam ascended which gets the “it’s in early access” excuse which should not apply and the delusional take that this is all new code when it’s a low quality graphics upgrade. Wildcard knows everyone can be taken advantage of cause of how gullible and defensive the fanbase can get. Along with the pvp survival community flocking to any survival game during the hype train then quitting it a few months later when no one plays anymore. Honestly rust and Conan are the only pvp survival games are polished and balanced around small groups, solo, and large groups. One other thing is many popular pvp TH-camrs which are basically the face of the community still support the game despite getting fucked over many times by wildcard and snail. Like the tea tribe banning incident in evolved. I feel if these TH-camrs finally quit eventually the rest will follow.

I think the worst part of ASA was how many people it left behind because of its system reqs, honestly killed the fun for me when most of my old tribe mates from ASE couldnt join in. More paid dlcs in ASE, which most dedicated players were willing to pay for, was the right direction, they really fumbled rereleasing graphically updated maps which we had already played before.

im sorry but you are wrong in so many ways. People are just jaded AF. Ascended is awesome but not enough content yet. it is basically the same as skyrim enhanced but better. Ya there's still some kinks. like any game but it runs so much better than evolved. The game is just too big to do all at once. Also.. if you are not playing with mods you are not getting the full experience. granted that it sucks to pay for some mods but i think its good for people to be able to freelance their hard work.
The game needs alot. Like real missions, villages we can raid or team up with, the ability to climb without oicks and the ability to dodge. The pvp aervers should not allow cave building. There needs to be something to help with insiding, and offline raids. Offline raids and insiding is the worse. Its the number one things that make people quit. The bad thing is megatribes are having people join snall tribes to inside them or go out and offline raid a small tribe. If anyone wonders why the game is dead. Its the toxic players that killed it.
Most dont play the official servers with ASA nor did that with ASE either. Half of all servers for ASA are also pvp but that means the other half are pve (that's including the small number of official servers with the larger number of unofficials). WC's focus is on mtx's and profit sharing from promotion of premium mod etc. Their money woes dictate more their push/marketing that the minority who play on the official pvp servers. Any content they can monetize where they can get most to buy it is where its going.
That and the terrible balancing and mismanagement on wild card and snail games. I mean look at last oasis. TBH that game has a way more engaging enjoyable pvp but died due to same problem incompetent devs and balance issues. If that game came around the time pvp survival games started becoming a trend. It would have been given a pass just like Ark. if Ark was released in modern day it will be shitted on by the consumers like Asa. The only ones that even like Asa are the migrated players from ASE players that are in denial.

I 100% blame snail games after all the shit that’s come out about them, wildcard has made some amazing shit with Ark evolved. And even in ascended which has so much quality of life stuff. But the literal black mail and corruption and greed and racism might I add. That goes on at snail games. I’m convinced that all of this is their fault.

ascended killed me on the lack of terrain textures on the island. the changed everything to sand stone, black sandy beaches at the base of the volcano, nope tan color now. lava in the caldera nope tan, all the nice grey stone and muddy river beds, sand fucking stone color. what did they do not buy a larger texture pack in UE5? or did they lose the textures from the original.
Can I get some outrage on Switch users behave? It took a year for Gen 2 to release and with it came the announcement that the last five community maps are cancelled. And now Grove Street is working on monetizing Ark Mobile.

I left when players continued to monopolize solo servers. I also had a problem with players dragging me into their pvp wars. I wasn't allowed to meet people and enjoy the game.

The problem with current official is all the cheating whether it be meshing, aim bot, esp, DDOS servers to flood, or duping. You can put in all the hours you want and it'll be taken away by one a player or group of players using those methods to get the upper hand.

I bought ascended with some friends because we all like to play ark together, I’ll continue to play but it makes me sad that Ark 2 will most likely never come and as soon as the rest of the maps and dinos are rolled out Ark as a franchise might not continue

I always thought ARK would be a realistic survival simulator when i saw that first trailer launch. I bought my first desktop to play this game.
But it turned out very, very different, surely a unique mix of dinosaurs, monsters, aliens, scifi. tribalism and empires. But the game really made no sense once dinosaurs were parked in garages you build and send out to harvest wood or rock. Had some fun and great moments but it never turned out to what I liked it to be. I guess i was expecting tribal levels of technology vs dinosaurs. But for many it turned out what a lot of people wanted and enjoyed.

Okay, Here's the thing:
ARK Ascended is NOT that bad. It really isn't and I'm tired of the doom and gloom surrounding it. As someone who owns both games and has played tons of hours on both, I honestly without any doubts, prefer ascended over evolved. I tried going back to evolved after playing ascended, and I just couldn't because of all the jank and settings you have to tweak to get things perfect. You don't have to do that in Ascended at all, though performance is not as good because of the high-res textures and graphics.
Is it perfect? No. Does it meet the super high expectations the community (and to some extent Wildcard themselves) set for it? No. Is it good? Yes.
I can tell you very simply, that If you're going to play both games, at their base levels, you'll prefer ascended. What people miss are all the maps that evolved had, but forget that it took several years for them to make each one. In theory, it shouldn't take long to re-make them, but in practice, there's always delays and hiccups in the process. The maps will come out, and they will be fine but probably have bugs. The worst I've had in Ascended has been anti-mesh issues, which from what I can tell are the same ones they had in the evolved.
Yes, this is something that you'd expect wouldn't happen in a remastered version, but the fact that it does, doesn't make it any WORSE than what you've got. In addition, I only have noticed these kinds of issues in PvP. When I play single player, I have experienced very rare issues of crashing (like 3 times ever) and 0 mesh issues. Granted, what I played in SP was scorched earth, not the center, like I did with PvP.
As for the paid DLC "pay to win" I keep seeing. People constantly forget that Ark has ALWAYS been "pay to win" because each and every time they release a DLC, that DLC is loaded with so many overpowered creatures or has easier access to resources than the previous maps. And you can't make saddles for any of those creatures without owning the DLC. If you play on an open map that allows for transfers, you're going to find Wyverns on the Island, because someone owns scorched earth and brought it over. You couldn't even play scorched earth without owning it.
All that's happening with Bob's and Pyromane is that they are NEW. Pyromane is stand-alone so that's why it feels bad, but ark has always been this way. Please don't act like it hasn't.
I don't think the problem is asa being "horrible". The real issue is in the fact that it's simply not good enough to justify the price. If they focused on things the community actually wanted, optimized the game, fixed the bugs, handled the cheaters better people would be more willing to buy it. But they are trying to sell asa as an upgrade, when the core issues are still there. I don't care about graphics if my dinos can still fall through the mesh. I don't care about character customization if my pc explodes when i try to run it. Some things were acceptable in ase because it was new, cool and innovative so mistakes were to be expected. With years of experience, development and player feedback, people just had much higher expectations of ascended and they obviously weren't met. And with obvious cash grabs not even a full year into the launch, the game's reputation sunk even further. Yes, Scorched earth gave those who were willing to pay access to wyverns, but it was also a full new map that would justify the price. Pyromane is simply a p2w addition for pvp with no actual value outside of it. If ase still has twice as much players as asa, there has to be a reason why. Unless they tackle some core issues with the game and optimize it better, i don't have a reason to buy asa because it simply doesn't offer me enough. I hope this makes more sense now

All i know is that even if they somehow make it to Ark 2 launch i will not be buying it. The entire charm of Ark was its dinosaur survival aspect. A lore heavy, soulslike combat game Ark 2 is supposed to be will never take off within the community. They just said fuck it and made something new without actually thinking about what their community wants. They fucked up everything and have been doing it for years at this point. I really hope someone competent will end up buying Wildcard and bring the game back to what it should've been.

Asa is NOT running UE 5.2. That why it runs so bad. ASE is (UE 4.5 which from 2015) and never bothered upgrade to newer version UE 4.27. Yet on Twitter or x, they said they going bring ASE upto UE 4.27 then to UE 5.2. It never happened. ASE is still using UE 4.5.
They lazy slapped ASE into UE 5.0 or 5.1. And left it. Slap on few tweeks for Asa and called it done. Thus why they are quickly upgrading UE 5.4, Cus they see how badly Asa runs even on 4090.
They also said Vulkan.api support was suppose come ASE. It never happened as we all know. Steam deck is proof vulkan works when devs do the proper homework.
Ascended is fine with me. 2000hrs on evolved since it hit steam. Ascended is cool with me. I like the knew build system. Character creation. graphically beautiful. I don't see what you're all crying about. You act like you've never bought a game from a shady dev .
People need to realise, Ark Ascended is not only a reskin, but it hasnt had all of the content implemented yet, yes there are the odd new dino, but thats not a reason to play it, never the less to even bother buying it. It offers less content than Ark 1, and mods add even more content ontop of it.

The financials anyone can go see on Snail Game's website's Quarterly reports show they're not in good shape and from a business standpoint, are just simply treading water.

Ark is a fun game and very unique .... but the way the game was handled, was always bad: from it's unsustainable DLC based monetization, piss-poor optimization (Evolved is still poorly optimized - hardware has just caught up to it over time), bugs becoming as ancient as fossils themselves, deadline blunders, PVP balancing being routinely sacrafized for P2W nonsense, etc.
This remaster serves no purpose whatsoever. Who fancies a remaster, when the OG game is still around and well, has far more content and part 2 is (allegedly) around the corner? Especially when said remaster incurs a bunch of workload and dials up the bad optimization to dreadful levels. This was nothing but a half hearted cash-grab that axed the community in two for no good reason whatsoever. They had a good thing going and they blew it.
This was one of the first games I ever bought, had to ask my dad if I could first, soooooooo many good memories. The old days of it will never be forgotten, hate seeing this now

Wildcard had a shady start. Wildcard failed to fix major bugs for over 8 years. Wildcard is now controlled by Snail games, another (possibly even shadier) company. They decide to try to force players to pay for something they basically already bought a second time, with microtransactions thrown in. Oh and it comes with a whole slew of new bugs, less freedom (server hosting choices are gone), and a fractured player base.
Yeah I think the ARK IP may rot thanks to almost a decade of poor decisions. What a shame. Enshitification claims another victim.
They should do 2 things:
1) lower the price of the new version FOR people who has the old one
2) lower the timer for taming in official servers

Also every patch ark copies parts of it's code into redundancies, that's why your game is 100+ gb. Back when scorched earth came out, I was sitting at 127 gb, I had to uninstall and reinstall just to reduce it's size to 70 gb. I had to do that about 2x a month.
I can't believe I say that today, but after several thousands of ours in ASE and nearly 1 thousand in ASA, but trying to play ASA today made me no longer enjoy it. I've got the impression ASA is meanwhile in such a broken condition that I feel like trying to play a pre-alpha game. I'm super sad. The main reason for me playing ARK was always the fun of releasing my "inner architect", building structures (something I'm not able to do in real-life), interacting with animals, taming them, breeding them. Using them as a "replacement" for the usual "upgrade your gear, find better gear", enjoying the beauty of the environment..... all that compared to the "usual quest-grinding", go there, do that style of games we have nowadays... the freedom of doing things in a game that is not bound to something like a hard progression-based thing. It just feels like it's getting worse and worse, with every map release and as I said, it's the first time for me, that I no longer enjoy it and that makes me super sad and I would feel ashamed as a developer (me being self one) releasing something like this to the public or even friends (and yes I know, it's still "early" access, but no excuse imho).
Idk Im on ps5 and Im very happy bcs we've got mods for us console players thats a huge change and definitely worth a new buy!
Of course I wish they've made more new stuff and better graphics but the happiness about the mods is definitely winning for me.

Yup, I was so done with Snail/Wildcard that I quit ASE like a week before official servers were shutdown. All that time and effort gone. No way I was going to get ASA. I only come back to ASE after starting my own server.
I don't even want a 'souls like game' or 'genre defining parkour.' I want Ark 2. A game with stunning graphics about surviving and taming dinosaurs using innovations on the most popular mod ideas- like immersive taming, wild breeding, wild egg collection, and robust building aesthetics and options. Flying that feels like flying (with flyer leveling ON), and a game that is fun in pvp as much as it is solo. NPC tribes would be a huge and amazing improvement. Maybe even spouses and dependents to build and care for.
Tech is cool, rockets on my dino is cool (I guess) but dinosaurs will always be king and if this goes too story linear heavy and not sandboxy build something from nothing, it's doomed to fail anyway. I'm already not looking forward to famous male actor playing male one and daughter 2 with forced cutscenes and story I didn't expect or ask for.

The Island, the same shit in a pretty wrapper, ran like garbage even with my PC upgraded (I upgraded for Starfield and should have handled ASA just as easily). Official Server ran like dogshit.
Scorched, looks nicer but that was it, lasted about 50-60 hours and got bored, been there, done that
The Center, honestly not even sure why they released this one, no one played in ASE let alone ASA
Aberration, this one could be the best one for the ASA Upgrade, it was already the best map IMHO, and a massive texture upgrade alone might make it worth playing again
But biggest killer for me, 3 1/2 years on Official ASE, I had every dino in max bred mode, Trexes with Max Melee, Gigas with Max Melee , Argies with Max Weight. I really don't want to spend the massive 8.8k hours time sink doing all that again on the same game
If it was Ark 2 and they improved the breeding so that its viable for new players to breed instead of mining metal and Element to make Tek Floors, Ceilings and shit and then buying the latest mutated dinos it might be worth it
I loved the raw, high-stakes challenge and the simplicity of being dropped into a world both beautiful and hostile. It was exciting, but now it feels like the core appeal of the game is being overlooked.
The only reason Ascended even has mixed reviews is thanks to console players. Not only is it a premium experience they've never experience, but for the first time has allowed access to a whole host of community mods, which being honest, are doing the heavy lifting in keeping the game alive right now. Both for player count and social media traction. And wildcard know this, making sure to highlight new mods weekly on all their social media accounts to keep the players they have left happy, and potentially reel in some ASE players.
Calling things out is great and all, but hating on the pay to win addons "that deserve the hate" is not helping the studio, there arent many good games, and the good ones are region locked, for me persoanally, ARK 2 is kind of my last hope to sink some hours into gaming before I can't do that anymore.
One thing game developers need to understand above all else is that in this far advanced day of computing your game had better run LIKE A DREAM with A LOT of SIMULTANEOUS PLAYERS. There is simply no excuse for this not to be the case. From the get go this has to be prioritized and everything else built around that. Our computers now can run maybe not cutting edge but PRETTY DAMN GOOD graphics with a shitload on the screen with no lag if you do it right, and if you don't you look dumb af and everyone knows it. People so backwards.
This makes me so sad. I have nearly 4k hours in ASE but I refuse to repurchase the same game. Not to mention the new pay to win system.

You know things are pretty bad when map fixes come 2 months too late when transfers are already opened and everyone has moved to the next map. Fixes come way too slow, and sometimes it takes multiple patches/rollbacks to "attempt" or "iterate" on fixes. They are still trying to fix invisible Dragon ffs. That alone says it all.
Yes exactly the invisible Dragon thing blows my mind...yet remember how quick they were to fix the honey trick on Dragon though lol. Very poor management imo with all of this
Its so painful watching executives have less business acumen than a toddler.... like seriously how do the shareholders not vote them out? They have that power. If I owned stock in Snail, I'd be livid and calling for the entire executive team to be replaced every single day.
Honestly the only thing I would want from ASA are the player animations, the ability to switch ammo on the fly etc. with a wheel menu, and the building mechanics ported over to ASE. I play PVE with a few friends and the ability to just walk is awesome for streaming and immersion imo. Loved and still play ASE but it's a little jarring now to go back to the player animations and clunky mechanics at least for me.
Lol they tried to get me to spend another 60 dollars on the same game that i already owned. With a track record of shady developers not fixing the problems that existed in the normal game. So glad I didn't waste my money on the cash grab that was ascended. Only way I'm coming back is if the franchise gets sold. If they were smart they would fire everyone delete every line of code and start from scratch. Make the game free and lean heavily into selling cosmetics.-Just one guys opinion

WHY is it that you kids are now ASKING for battlepass and cosmetics? don't make ark the same as fortnite. back in the day you bought a game and that was it, no microtransactions. god damn I can't believe it, this guys is really asking them to sell cosmetics ffs.
ASA has frustrated me to no end. But ASE frustrated me even more. I do think some major changes have made it overall more playable, e.g. bluescreening. not as many disconnects for me on ps5. But decisions made and other game breaking bugs have arose.
