And how is it going? Please do not keep them only now, keep them in the years to come and if you have surplus, share it with fellow aquarists. They can help you in return anytime later when you are not so lucky... and we all together are holding an insurance population for the species. Thank you!

More and more aquarists are starting this hobby in China, but still a lot work to do.

Thanks for your comment. Yes, there is a lot of work to do. Starting a hobby is just one step - we need to see how many enthousiasts will still keep a healthy insurance population of these endangered species after one, two, five... ten years. This is a long-term commitment, and not an easy one.
But hobbyists are very important with their passion and expertise. Especially if we cooperate, we can learn from each other and we back each other up.

@@sulawesikeepers Thank you for providing this information. Yes, there is still a lot to do. I'm not sure, but can the artificially breeded Sulawesi shrimp be put back into their native lakes in the wild in the future? I know that some large animals can do it this way.

@@TRSuperman This would also be possible in the case of shrimps. But before they can come back, two conditions must be met: 1) the lakes must be free of threats, and 2) we must maintain the shrimp species (snails, crabs, fish...) for all those years needed to "clean" the lakes. Conservation breeding also includes maintaining the species in conditions as close to the natural habitat as possible, and trying to minimize the loss of genetic diversity. Which itself is a complex topic...

The person who did this should be jailed!

That's difficult, Willy. Many people living on the shore of the lake know nothing about what lives there. This is a problem everywhere in the world - people don't value the local fauna and they don't even think that releasing an exotic animal can have serious consequences. They just don't know.
Education is an extremely important job because it's one thing to get those cichlids out of the lake, but how do you make sure they aren't released again the next day?
That's why we try to inform as much as possible - about what is happening in the lakes, but also about the wonderful diversity that would be a real shame to lose.
