35 years old, Y'all are just babies to us retirees. I was 64 when I came to Silverton. I didn't make it back this year but next summer for sure. You never get too old for an off road adventure.
ANYbody who does that trail on any kind of motorcycle deserves a medal or something. I'm from the Eastern US and no 'freaking way you would ever find me on that trail! I wouldn't even want to walk it, let alone bike it! The steepness and the "trail" dropoffs would terrify me. (and I use the term "trail" very loosely here! haha) Great video! A little too much talking for my liking, but that's what mute is for. The scenery is fantastic!
Looked a lot better for you guys then when we went last summer, man there was so many 4x4's along the whole Trail big groups they kept stopping in the middle of the trail we spend most their time just working around 4x4's
Great to see another posting from CDS - and an epic trio traversing Black Bear Pass. We can hear your heart beating through the speakers. Serious butt-puckering moments on the Steps! Well-done, fellas. And may 2018 bring you many more excellent rides.
the wild bunch 4x4 group out of Montrose usually does a trip up black bear backwards. Its a special event that they get permits for and only a certain number of people get to go.
Wow man! Would have been cool to have one of those Google maps cameras that allow 360 degrees of filming. What an awesome place. You all have my respect. Thanks for the video
I was looking for something to do in 2018 and ran across your channel. This is good stuff! I truly enjoyed the last three days watching backcountry motorcycle porn after skiing. In fact, I texted one of my backcountry buds and we walked through this and the Red Cone video. Had a blast (at your expense). I'm heading down to Colorado this year. Thanks from a guy in Wa State!
Thank you! Just be very careful on the steps if you are going to be loaded down. I easily could have gone over the bars if my butt wasn't on the rear fender. Any weight up high will be a problem.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane! Did that one on my 530 before...Gopro doesn't do the steepness justice! That is such an intimidating and rewarding section on the Steps!
Great video. At the end I by the blocked off road and cones, there was a whole line of cars and trucks. Did those all come down black bear? I saw a suburban in there. I ask bc I’m going out there in August and this is a dream of mine but I’m still not sure if I wanna chance it in a Yukon. (Tahoe) would love to get into the dual sport but the wife’s not keen on it. Lol.
Nice video! What exact camera models were the red and black bikes running? The red one seemed to have better image stabilisation but wider angle of view?
For this video we were all using Sena's. The audio was recorded on each camera and mixed in post. We each have two mics, one for communication and one for audio.
I love how close Telluride is to Hwy 550 and Ouray, yet it's still not really close because this pass is the only shortcut to get to Telluride without going around the entire mountains. I've been tempted to try it, I think I'll service my brakes first though. It doesn't look as technical as it looks scary.))
Correct, that one is properly nicknamed "The Long Way Round". Yes, make sure your breaks are in good order before heading out there. It's wicked fun going up, but could be very bad going down if you have a failure. Also, remember that the cameras make it look almost flat. It's not flat at all, but more straight down lol.
Thanks for that I'm planning a trip there from Oregon.I want to do all those passes. What are the roads that were blocked off where do they go. I saw a building up there on the edge when you came down the hill are these accessible.. Thanks great vids. God Bless ''''''RIDE ON""""
Thanks man! There are so many trails out there that I couldn't even tell you which were closed and which wern't. The building up on the cliff towards the end "I believe" is Eli Tesla's house. I know you can walk up to it, but I think it's still private property. I would do some googling to find out for sure. What I know is all word of mouth.
That would be an awesome trip! Just make sure you pick ones that are big bike friendly, because there are some there that really aren't unless you are some kind of Chris Birch or something Haha!
That's funny not anymore I traded in my KTM 450 I injured my back I figured I am NOT giving up riding so Dual sport I went XR650l my wife said I needed to ride still. Dual sporting a new world for me it's the same but way different. No more extreme stuff both wheels on the ground. I've been watching you guys videos really made me decide. Thanks again.'''''''RIDE ON"""" So now I have 2 xrs.
Hey CDS, how are you ? great videos. I'm curious to know if you are still editing with Sony vegas studio platinum suite 12 or whether you now use something else ? whatever it is your films looks great , thanks
Thanks for the video! Is Hermit okay? He suddenly stopped posting videos and even commenting on Facebook 3 - 4 months ago without a word of explanation. I sort of miss that cantankerous son of a gun. Merry Christmas to you and Stacey!
Any time man! Yep, Hermi is doing just fine. I had dinner with him just over a week ago when we went back to CO for work for a few days. That stuff will all be explained on his channel soon.
I have been watching a lot of your videos. I just wanted to let you know, that I truly enjoy them & to thank you for posting them. Our riding style is very similar, both enduro & Touring. You ride, where I want to ride & view the things I want to see. YES I like the longer ones & your commentary is enjoyable. Especially with Hermit. Change nothing, go explore where you live now, maintain your format & keep em coming. You hit your target audience. DO NOT let any negative comments alter your course. Best wishes to you & keep up the great work !
So yall had to wait for Tyler to figure out how a zipper works. Hermit really should be bashing you more since he want get to as often. Good grief yall had enough folks out there. Those views were epic as always. Stay safe
Planning to do this whit a husqvarna svartpilen 401. Not lot of ground clearance but enough to get off road. Did you guys that will be enough or definitely need something whit better clearance
@@motosymas1726 That all depends on the weather. You can contact the San Juan ranger district to get an idea. Our best rides out there were in early September, but it really all depends on mother nature.
I do always carry while riding. I actually have a video about this subject if you want to look it up in the archive. It's called "things to know about carrying while riding" or something close to that. I've never had to use it, but I'd rather have it and not need it....or in my mind...having it means I won't need it. You shouldn't be afraid of wildlife. Hundreds of riders go out unarmed. I just choose to because I can and the reason above.
Thanks for the response , wasn’t sure if this was an ohv trail . Definitely going to try this in July . Where does the trailhead start ? Or where is the parking area where I can leave my truck ? Do you know the nearby address or coordinates? I’m familiar with the ohv sticker I come up from Houston every summer to ride . Colorado is by far the best place to ride . So many amazing trails
20:00 That camera (on the rear bike) needs thrown in the garbage...LOL. It has zero image stabilization and makes me sea-sick watching it after watching Tyler's camera.
Oh it wasn't nothing, trust me, I was full pucker and almost did an endo at one point. I was being brave for the camera and the boys lol! Won't be doing that again, but glad I did it!

Loved the commentary near the end. Would love to know what was bleep out about voting for Ms. Clinton.

Wow, that would be one crazy ride! I'm going to go see if there are any videos of it. The cameras make those steps look so tame.
Man this is like a dream ride, wish I could get some people together to do this

Doing this in a big bike this summer. You guys smashed all the sections I was concerned about doing!

Fucking hilarious! Just found your channel, sup from PA!
Nice vid, great scenery.
Thank you!
Looks like a great ride. I live in the Black Hills of South Dakota so not too far. Going to have to do this.
great video, I like the audio
The old sign at the start of black bear used to say "you don't have to be crazy to drive this road, but it sure helps."
No way! I'd love to see if it you have a picture. Post it on the facebook.
At least according to C. W. McCall :)
Thanks for the trip down memory lane! Did that one on my 530 before...Gopro doesn't do the steepness justice! That is such an intimidating and rewarding section on the Steps!
Exactly! I'm so sad that the cameras make it look so easy. My heart was pounding just editing the footage! However, I can say that I did it!
8:47 - OK, that looks scary fast for the how rough the road is...

Justin Daugherty the cars come up from telluride and park to hike and see waterfall. Cars could never cross black bear pass.
Same Dual Sport Rider! Good Adventure!
Incredible. Puts our little tennessee creeks and hills to shame.
a new rider with 2 bikes, want to sell both and buy dual sport. looks AWESOME
Thank you! You'll love it, don't wait.
Yea this is one of the best rides in Colorado. Sad to see you leave man!
Nice video! What exact camera models were the red and black bikes running? The red one seemed to have better image stabilisation but wider angle of view?
Tyler - eveRide (yellow helmet) runs the Sony cameras. Hermit and I run GoPro's. I run a Hero 4 Black and he has a Hero 3 Silver.
Thanks dude! Yeah, those steps are a little crazy! They look almost flat in the video, that sucks so bad!
nice group adventure- wish I could put together the time and fellows to try this
Loved the video. I noticed your guys' audio comm is crystal clear. What type of equipment are you using to talk, record etc between riders?
For this video we were all using Sena's. The audio was recorded on each camera and mixed in post. We each have two mics, one for communication and one for audio.
I recently switched to a Pac Talk Black though.

I'm doing this ride next summer.
Great looking vid sir. How is your new home and new city going? By the way are you still vaping?
Great colors...nice footage.
Amazing scenario. I wanna go there but i rekon i would have to take off 2 moths just to make it there.

Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed it. That is one of my favorites now!
My feet hurt just watching this....
You must have done it on a weekend with all the masses there...
Planning to do this whit a husqvarna svartpilen 401. Not lot of ground clearance but enough to get off road. Did you guys that will be enough or definitely need something whit better clearance
You will absolutely want a purpose built offroad bike for this one. Those steps are no joke.
@@ColoradoDualSport thanks for the advice 🙏
@@motosymas1726 Any time. I just looked up your bike. Yes please heed my advice, that bike will not make it in one piece.

I'm heading to Silverton next summer. Who wants to go?
So how much of that 5' of snow did you get?
What I want to know, was there a burrito in the burrito tube? And what kind of burrito?
Negative! We were headed down to procure said burrito!

Can you do this trail on a non street legal dirtbike ? Or does it have to be only street legal cars/bikes non - ohv
Any trail in the National Forest doesn't require a plate. However it does require an OHV sticker which is about $15 per bike.
Thanks for the response , wasn’t sure if this was an ohv trail . Definitely going to try this in July . Where does the trailhead start ? Or where is the parking area where I can leave my truck ? Do you know the nearby address or coordinates?

Why would anyone drive that fast next to 1000+ ft mistake
Cuz it's fun !
