Most epic ride of my life, 1977 on Yamaha DT 175 two stroke from Crested Butte to Redstone thru Schofield Pass with my dad, i was 14 years old. Degree of difficulty was much higher back then. Plan to do it again with my 2 nephews who I race motocross with. I am now 59 and will attempt the ride on my new KTM 390 Adventure, can't wait!
I lived in Marble for a few years. I rode my 95 BMW R 1100 GS from Marble to Crested Butte via Schofield Pass a couple times. I was solo and 66 years old. I’m lucky I didn’t drop the bike on myself. Don’t go solo!
I did this on a KLR 650 with all my camping gear, back in 1998. I don’t know what is more impressive: you on that heavy Adventure with street tires or your buddy with his girlfriend and big bags on the 390 doing that trail. I enjoyed the video very much. Thank you.

Ive done this pass in my Toyota FJ cruiser! Very technical in the FJ! The following year I was hiking it with a buddy and his family on the day when the guy on the ktm went into the devils punch bowl! We arrived as they were pulling the bike from the bowl! Thank God for his divine intervention that day!! I think next time I do it will be on my Honda XR650L. Great video!! Ride on!!
That had to be absolutely wild to pull up on that accident. This is such a beautiful area and I need to get back and ride more of what it has to offer.
Great ride - sorry to hear about the flat! Had a similar experience (freak slice) in very rural western NC on a rather desolate forest service road. Random guy was rolling past on a Yamaha Zuma 125. Gave me a 30m ride to town where we purchased tire plugs and a bicycle pump, then gave me a lift back to my motorcycle. Serious generosity! Patched it up enough to limp it down to a wonderful valley where I sat next to a lake under the shade of a beautiful tree and watched a nice lazy fall afternoon pass while waiting for a friend to drive up with a trailer to fetch me.
Awesome video, what an incredible trail. It was cool to see your process on changing the tire as well. This is definitely being added to the list of trails I want to do!
The 390 is an awesome motorcycle that doesn’t get the respect it should because it cost half the price of the other adventure KTMs. I just completed the continental divide trail from Mexico to Canada and it was flawless, it was great off-road and it was great on the road.

Didn’t the ADV police let your friends know, who were riding two up, that they can only ride an ADV bike standing up? 😂 So what we have learned here is that you DON’T have to stand up all the time and you can ride two up; amazing! Love it! 😂
@@EverySingleSunday Ok, so I guess where you guys were riding, a license may not be required (regarding the KTM 300 2 stroke). That town in the beginning looks like a spot where they do KTM rallies....I saw Nutnfancy there.
It works well in the cruiser single track stuff but the suspension struggles a bit if it gets rough. It’s a very capable little bike but does have its limits
Well, slow speed stuff like this you could ride a street bike on if you wanted. The 390 is fine for plunking along trails like this in 1-2nd gear. I wouldn’t want to be in the 390 trying to go fast anywhere. The suspension just wouldn’t handle it
What if it’s my job to do tire reviews and this is what I was working on at the time ? Is making a living a good reason to try different stuff? I was in Colorado to ride my 300. Just had my 790 there for running errands and getting around 🤙
This video (unknowingly) has made my dilemma on the choice of bikes (for a lighter one than my Africa Twin) The 790 adv seemed the ideal with its lighter weight, lower CG and 2 cyl (smoother) power but watching the 390 adv with a pillion fly over that rough terrain, at altitude, hmmm 🤔 and the 390’s even lighter yet!
The 390 is find for 1-2nd gear trails but the suspension is not willing to handle anything fast at all The 790/890 checks all the boxes for what I want. It can do it all with the right rider The 790 feels closer to a 500 than it does to a AT. The AT is a big hike to take off-road
How Lily is so relaxed I have no idea...she's got bigger balls than all y'all. Leave it to Travis to use a hammer where a precision screw driver would be the tool of choice. Brap!
That’s just more weight to carry in a bag and the center stand will get caught on rocks and logs. This bike is usually on knobbies jumping rocks and logs
@@EverySingleSunday the MotionPro tire irons are aluminum and pretty light 252 grams IIRC. As for trail stand it's ~1lbs do not confuse it with center stand but you will have to carry a velcro or bungee to lock front brake to change rear tire, works in the middle of desert too ;)
Because I work doing reviews for BikeBandit.com and this is the tire I’ve been testing Wasn’t planning on riding something like this but the opportunity came up so we went
Looks like you figured out why those street tires were a bad idea. Had that happened at the peak of the pass, you'd be blocking a lot of traffic and making a huge snarl in those tight sections at a minimum. If not creating a dangerous situation for both yourself and the people who had to come rescue you. Just because you "can" do something doesn't mean you should.
Yep, figured that one out for sure. The people I was with were the ones that convinced me to go with them that day. I’ll be back on a more aggressive tire next time
I went to Colorado to ride dirt bikes, not adventure bikes A friend picked me up and I drove with them from CA to CO Plan was to have the 790 so I could ride it back to California since they we’re staying in Colorado for a month. These tires would have been great for riding home Had a couple down days so we decided to get out and see what we could do on these tires

For Pearl needed a few buddies to drag bikes thru snowfield. Then there was the creek ride on the south side of Taylor Pass, dicey. fond memories...
If I make it back, now I know
17 lives per year? source please?
Google -Schofield Pass
It’s one of the stats that comes up under how dangerous it is
Didn’t the ADV police let your friends know, who were riding two up, that they can only ride an ADV bike standing up? 😂 So what we have learned here is that you DON’T have to stand up all the time and you can ride two up; amazing! Love it! 😂
Oh… the infamous “meerkat pose” 😂😂😂
We’re all about riding and not trying to look the part
Love it 🥰
So you can license a 2 stroke in CO?
No clue. Never looked into it
@@EverySingleSunday Ok, so I guess where you guys were riding, a license may not be required (regarding the KTM 300 2 stroke). That town in the beginning looks like a spot where they do KTM rallies....I saw Nutnfancy there.
All our bikes are plated in AZ. Just like a car, you don’t change your plate when traveling to other states
You summoned the flat! Don’t speak it’s name and they won’t happen! 🤙🏼
Oh man, you speak the truth
Sweatshirt and yoga pants? Great choice.
Agreed
Maybe google Baboon's pass in Lesotho.. most deadly looks bit different
This one claims on average 17 life’s a year. The stats online are the ones claiming it to be the most deadly in Colorado
What exhaust is on your 790?
It’s an Arrow with the Decat.
no protective jacket or gloves for Lilly
She’s pretty hardcore
Dam thats some dopeamine there imma have to ride that pass wont be on a adv tho lol hats off
As long as you are out and enjoying 2 wheels. Have fun
I had no idea that KTM 390 was such a mule! Should've known if KTM built it, it'd be good.
It works well in the cruiser single track stuff but the suspension struggles a bit if it gets rough. It’s a very capable little bike but does have its limits
I ride stuff like this on my 950 to get milk in the morning here in northern Greece😂👊🏼😎
Greece looks fantastic. Have fun
I guess you friend debunked the theory that the KTM 390 isnt good off road. Nice ride especially on those Conti street tires
Well, slow speed stuff like this you could ride a street bike on if you wanted. The 390 is fine for plunking along trails like this in 1-2nd gear.
I wouldn’t want to be in the 390 trying to go fast anywhere. The suspension just wouldn’t handle it
crested butte, AKA crusty butte. stayed there a few years ago. no reason to run street tires on a 790; just get TKC80s or something similar. the end.
What if it’s my job to do tire reviews and this is what I was working on at the time ?
Is making a living a good reason to try different stuff?
I was in Colorado to ride my 300. Just had my 790 there for running errands and getting around 🤙
OMG! F’ing fantastic.
What are people Doing that causes so many deaths here every year?
Mainly Jeeps I believe. That one narrow steep Rocky part must catch them out or something
I’ve been in Black Bear Pass twice in my Jeep and once on my KTM 450 EXC-F. There’s been some recent rollovers on it too.
Dude on 390 is two up, on a fucking road tires too, he's a legend))
Ryan is one of the best riders I have ever met. The things he can do on a bike blow my mind
This video (unknowingly) has made my dilemma on the choice of bikes (for a lighter one than my Africa Twin)
The 790 adv seemed the ideal with its lighter weight, lower CG and 2 cyl (smoother) power but watching the 390 adv with a pillion fly over that rough terrain, at altitude, hmmm 🤔 and the 390’s even lighter yet!
The 390 is find for 1-2nd gear trails but the suspension is not willing to handle anything fast at all
The 790/890 checks all the boxes for what I want. It can do it all with the right rider
The 790 feels closer to a 500 than it does to a AT. The AT is a big hike to take off-road
Iam in shock , Asian 390 can do it with passenger😮
They are both tiny people
And he’s a pro level rider
How Lily is so relaxed I have no idea...she's got bigger balls than all y'all. Leave it to Travis to use a hammer where a precision screw driver would be the tool of choice. Brap!
Her and Ryan are just awesome
Awesome vid but get some Pro Bead Breakers and trail stand dude
That’s just more weight to carry in a bag and the center stand will get caught on rocks and logs. This bike is usually on knobbies jumping rocks and logs
@@EverySingleSunday the MotionPro tire irons are aluminum and pretty light 252 grams IIRC. As for trail stand it's ~1lbs do not confuse it with center stand but you will have to carry a velcro or bungee to lock front brake to change rear tire, works in the middle of desert too ;)
People don’t live in Crystal Mill year round. It’s just summer homes.
👍
I think it's 17 lives total and not per year
That’s the stat that google brought up.
Great ride, respect….
Thanks mate. Good times for sure
hi what a bad idea to go with road tires to go on rock ... when you have one of the best off-road motorbikes on the market. ? !!!!
Because I work doing reviews for BikeBandit.com and this is the tire I’ve been testing
Wasn’t planning on riding something like this but the opportunity came up so we went
@@EverySingleSunday so doing trials will make you lose your lucidity ... it's time to take back power and find your sanity ...😁
If I had knobbies on the bike, it would have been a boring day. These made it more interesting
Love my 790!
One of the best do it all bikes :)
I’ll be back on a more aggressive tire next time
Why would you take those tires on that ride -good times !
Because my buddies dragged me out. I had this bike to ride home to California after this event. We were up there on our 300s doing some real riding
i dont understand why you did not put knobblies on it instead of worry about it the whole trip
I went to Colorado to ride dirt bikes, not adventure bikes
A friend picked me up and I drove with them from CA to CO
Plan was to have the 790 so I could ride it back to California since they we’re staying in Colorado for a month. These tires would have been great for riding home
Had a couple down days so we decided to get out and see what we could do on these tires
Great video, please verify your statement annual deaths per year -17 at about minute 3.40. There were 11 deaths as of 2011 and maybe 17 in total. I think your statement may be misleading. If you have a reference please share, thanks again mice video and great preparation- flat repair having tube on board.
Google Schofield Pass, CO. It came up when I searched it for some information.
saw the video thumbnail, then the title and IMMEDIATELT said "not on those tires bro" then i saw the ESS as the poster and thought....of course he would
Oh man, love this 😂
the tires wah
😂
Sucks you got a flat but good job getting home.
Ya, just glad we had everything
