PS2 emulation can be hit or miss because of the emulator as well. It was never finished for android and the developer has abandoned it. You can do a lot with it. I'm currently playing Fallout 3 and NV on the retroid mini. I like it a lot. Possibly tonight or sometime this weekend I'm going to try skyrim if I get time to.
As a long time user of snapdragon 865 for emulation; it will play about 2/3rds of the ps2 library flawlessly. Some games do not run great. Aethersx2 is the emulator i use. GameCube runs flawlessly; i havent found a game that doesn't run well. But since this device has active cooling; it's feasible it can play more games at a higher resolution scale than my old phone lol.
@@TravisAxel it's more limited by the emulator than by the hardware. I've seen it run God of War 2 so in practice almost any PS2 game should run but Aether compatibility isn't 100%

Not having anything to compare it to, I'm sure I will love it tbh. really as far as collecting and form factor... I'm just waiting on a RG 40xx SP to round out the Vertical vs Horizontal vs SP forms and have a nice collection.
aesthetics is subjective of course, but I think the black model looks like the best of the 3 (and thankfully isn't using transparent/translucent plastic)
I wished reviewers use side to side comparism with phones instead. Because not everyone has a handheld but with phones, it will be easier for me to get an estimate on how it would feel like on my hands personally.
Awesome. Looks good and I love that the face buttons are quieter than the ones on the RP Mini. Can't wait for my GC colorway RP5 that I got early bird price to arrive (and I bought it with a screen protector, a case and the 35W charger, will probably by the dock sometime in the future). Hopefully it will arrive by the end of next month but I believe it'll likely arrive by December. Hopefully the speakers will be better with the final product but that's a lil bit worrying that the right speaker is crackling at medium volume
The RP2S recently became my main retro console, which is funny because I have it since release and only now it clicked. For context I own the Miyoo Mini+, RG35XX (og), RG35XX H and the A30. Nothing prepares you to how small all these handhelds are when you get them. Somehow the scale doesn't translate from watching videos to real life and my hands aren't even that big. I am also glad they added the bump on the 5 to help a bit with the ergonomics because the 3 and 4 were horrible to hold for longer than 15 minutes without the handles.

Hey thanks David! People like to hear what the buttons sound like specifically, to get an idea of using it in public or at night around others, see how loud they are or what they feel like, not meant as ASMR per say (but I did have fun with that in our short the other day, heh). Thanks for checking out the channel!

@ahmedp8009 yeah I have big hands also, it's on the verge of being uncommon for shooters, but just big enough thankfully. Can't wait to compare against the Odin 2 Portal next for ergo.
💯 I have a 35xxsp for my front shirt pocket and a steamdeck that I’ll continuously upgrade when they have a new one. The sweet spot left for me is a retroid flip2 with all the specs of the mini/rp5 and I won’t need to upgrade handhelds for years.
Ancient chipset with a form factor that doesn't really support the games its meant to run.... for 160 bucks. Fine to enjoy it, but it's firmly mid; and for the cost, not powerful enough
I've been far more interested in this than the Mini. Already, I'm a bit more impressed by it, and the fact that it's not limited by the size of the screen for things that aren't just 4:3. Like, sure let's just casually play some Vita games.
I'm not particularly drawn to Android handheld consoles like the Retroid. For an Android handheld experience, I prefer my much more powerful phone paired with a telescopic gamepad like the Razer Kishi and Emulation Station for Android-that setup just feels superior to buying a dedicated Android handheld. For compact handhelds, I’d rather go with smaller Linux-based consoles like the Miyoo A30, which I recently got and find amazing with Spruce OS.
They're not in a good position on either...well at least not the left analog stick (conventionally used for movement). The Odin 2 and Anbernic 556 stick placement is perfect ergonomically but the RP5/RP mini's D-Pad placement is perfect. So it really comes down to what games you wanna play.
@@EliHank I think this question was more about having the d-pad on top but having the analogie sticks (that's what I'm going to call them from now on) get in the way. It looks like on the Mini the sticks are a little more inboard, meaning less chance of accidentally nudging it when using the d-pad.
16:9 will be better for PSP (obviously) but also NDS and 3DS, being able to display both screens rather than having to toggle. GBA will be nice too, and any games that have widescreen mode without hacks will look great. Wii and Switch are widescreen too, though I doubt Switch will really be worth it.
I'm in an Android game showcase camp. I know pretty well what the SD865 can emulate (which makes this a desirable device), but I'd like to see some Android games worth paying. There's just too much junk to sift through.
I wish people would STOP saying the glass front is “fingerprinty”. It has an oleophobic coating which actually is fingerprint resistant. It’s on par with a new iPhone.
Those coatings (if present) last a few months and then they are gone. Especially when you're using and cleaning the device regularly it will wear off pretty quick leaving you with the fingerprint magnet again.
The 2S is a great performing machine for its price, but it has a similar problem that the Mini has - screen to body ratio. I don't care about the kind of vibes the system gives if it's bigger than it needs to be. That said, I'm going to go play on my RG353p for a bit...

@@retrohandhelds thank you!
Yeah but if you primarily want to play GameBoy there are more affordable quality options.
Ordered the white one
I beg that you test honkai star rail and see if the controllers are detected natively
I so want to play hyper light drifter on the GameCube version
analogie sticks are in a comfy position or they are better in the rp mini ?
They're not in a good position on either...well at least not the left analog stick (conventionally used for movement). The Odin 2 and Anbernic 556 stick placement is perfect ergonomically but the RP5/RP mini's D-Pad placement is perfect. So it really comes down to what games you wanna play.
@@EliHank I think this question was more about having the d-pad on top but having the analogie sticks (that's what I'm going to call them from now on) get in the way. It looks like on the Mini the sticks are a little more inboard, meaning less chance of accidentally nudging it when using the d-pad.
black or 16-bit color ? i cant decide. Retro color would be cool but black is just so sharp and neutral
I like the non black versions for look, but screen pops the most on the black front!
Seems to me that Retroid is taking design cues from AYN. It's a very sleek design, though I prefer the sticks to be offset.
GeForce Now would be very compelling for me and accessing my Steam Library.
Ah it works well on here too! Tested during the livestream today .
But, wouldn't every shill say that it's a 'fair and honest review'? :D
Honestly if they make the mini with the Gamecube colorway that would be 😩
Are you able to switch out the joysticks?
Yeah I once feel the same way, I Originally wanted to do Retroid Only until One Day I wanted to do More than Retroid.
Tali says..... "I made this...."
hey! im subbed to you all on my discord! wow lol ok now I see
Ahh that's awesome!! Appreciate the support. Is it a public discord? Would be cool to check it out sometime!
11:22 it's NOT amoled then? :P You goofed that part!
Haha yeah I did, clipped that moment out now to avoid confusion, it is absolutely Amoled 😅
How does Rogue Squadron 2 or 3 play?
I looks like a TSP on steroids with the same size, screen size, and form factor.
TSP has a 4.96in screen, this has a 5.5in screen.
@christophergarcia6064 close enough, it's that extra non bezel space that adds the extra half inch.
@@Jabiinc No... the RP5 has a 5.5in diagonal screen. That's viewable space...
going for unbernic 406h when it arrives, dont see point in such a wide screen when its aim is retrogaiming
Widescreen hacks and for me preferred android games with keymapping
16:9 will be better for PSP (obviously) but also NDS and 3DS, being able to display both screens rather than having to toggle. GBA will be nice too, and any games that have widescreen mode without hacks will look great. Wii and Switch are widescreen too, though I doubt Switch will really be worth it.
I don't get the ugly front. Is because the circles around the d-pad and buttons are not the same size?
Ugly isn't the right word, a little boring in comparison to their previous ones is all, has no impact on my enjoyment of the device though ❤
So that’s not an affiliate link, right?
Now if only they sold them at Best Buy at MSRP.
@tboatrig man, that would be awesome. It happened with Ayaneo..maybe one day!
Cemu emulation test!
Ah we did during the livestream!!
3ds is in need of testing
I'm in an Android game showcase camp. I know pretty well what the SD865 can emulate (which makes this a desirable device), but I'd like to see some Android games worth paying. There's just too much junk to sift through.
I wish people would STOP saying the glass front is “fingerprinty”. It has an oleophobic coating which actually is fingerprint resistant. It’s on par with a new iPhone.
Cool. It still gets fingerprints on it. Now what.
Even if it has this oleophobic coating and all the other fancy words, it still gets fingerprints on it😅
Those coatings (if present) last a few months and then they are gone. Especially when you're using and cleaning the device regularly it will wear off pretty quick leaving you with the fingerprint magnet again.
@@Tom-pk4ye so it's fingerprinty, and causes cancer.
gamer hands are especially oily with all the cheetos
I definitely think that the RP5 looks way cooler then say, the 2S.. design wise, I think Retroid has come a long way..
dont knock the RP2S best squareish design imo. not a gameboy bootleg, not exactly anything but definitely has retro inspired aesthetic.
@@HitoriGnocchi I respect that. That was just my personal opinion
Yeah, modern vs. retro. The gamcube rp5 looks dope. If the RP2S had a 4 inch or bigger screen I'd buy one. Already have a 3.5 inch device
The 2S is a great performing machine for its price, but it has a similar problem that the Mini has - screen to body ratio. I don't care about the kind of vibes the system gives if it's bigger than it needs to be.
That said, I'm going to go play on my RG353p for a bit...
11:24 IPS display?
its oled, probably just misspoke
AMOLED
Just misspoke, it's Amoled
