Because this is oled, I really dont recommend using bezels on your emulators. It looks great without them because black is actually off. And saves battery by having black bezels.
What do you mean? Performance? The rp5 is better in raw power and because it's a snapdragon chip it is even more compatible with emulators etc., but it also costs more than the anbernic.
There also is big stick pointy stick, dual sticks, even pointier stick, pointy stick that goes boom, jumpy stick, thingy that shoots sticks, katanas and 2 machine guns.
Great showcase! So many devices; so many games; so little time. But hey, watching your gameplay footage gives me the eager anticipation to try them out when time allows!
I have to agree with you, the higher end devices that have the power to play the newer consoles should have the left joystick up top. My biggest complaint about most high end devices lately
Love the video. Hard disagree on the dpad on top thing. Retroid is pretty much the only manufacturer doing symmetrical sticks for high end devices! Let us have this one!
As someone who already has the RP4 Pro (and an Ayn Odin 2), my biggest 'complaint' (nitpick really) with the RP5 is the choice of SoC. I really think they should have gone with an SD 870 or 888. While the OLED panel is a very nice upgrade to be sure, the overall performance compared to the RP4 Pro is far too similar to justify buying the RP5 as it would only be a side-grade in my use case. That being said, if I didn't already have the Pro and was in the market I probably would get the RP5, again for that OLED panel.
I'm the oddball that wants both sticks on top. But there are no companies that do that 😅 But both sticks at the same height is a requirement for any emulation console I buy.

This was the review I've been waiting for, TD! I bought the Trimui based upon your recommendation, and I love it! I'm just waiting for them to come up with a Batocera/EmuStation interface for it, because (admittedly), I'm not a fan of the stock firmware. Yeah, the games play, but the limited modding options (compared with other front-ends) holds back what that system is capable of doing. So I liked what I was seeing in other reviews of the RP 5, but was waiting for yours... and I will be ordering this, based upon YOUR recommendation. Keep 'em coming, Bro!
Pretty much an endgame device hug. How about recent history of handhelds, Dweeb? Starting from v90 and rg350 and up to rp5. That would be interesting and even somewhat nostalgic video 😌
Awesome review! Would you consider doing a video showcasing the games that you think look particularly good on the OLED screens of the RP Mini/RP5? I think many people will agree that a great OLED screen can bring new life to old games.
Hey TechDweeb, have been loving the videos! Got a question, for someone who owns a steam deck but is wanting a retro device would you recommend the new RP5 or the RG406V? Your video on the RH406V just about sold me because I love the vertical style. Thanks!

Great video! Really considering getting this device. Showing how this device performs when using a linux OS (and how to set-up said OS) would be very helpful.
The D-pad is fine where it is. Considering how few consoles prioritize the D-pad over analog sticks, it would be kind of ungrateful to complain about its position. The biggest issue I see is that they need to space the D-pad further from the analog stick, like on a PlayStation controller, so your finger can move between them without straining.

@TechDweeb, How would you compare it to the potential and functionality of the Retroid P5 Mini? In no way do i need this, but im always looking for an upgrade. Currently have the RP4 Pro and pretty much every 3.5 variend out there
You might have enjoyed the RP Mini more if you got one with the retro colours. The Saturn one looks super nice. I went with the black one though, because I play with letterboxing.
Love your vids Dweeb, I would like to see streaming set up , and mapping keys for Wii games maybe. Pretty much any videos with your signature dweeb style.
Wondering if you're considering the M4 Mac Mini as a retro console review product, and maybe look at how people could set it up to get the most out of it's powerful chip.
The smaller one is made for people like me. I will never play a game meant for 4:3 aspect ratio on a wide screen. So for me, i would install NES, SNES, GB, GBA, GC, PS1 etc etc. on the smaller handheld. While i use the wider screen handheld for games meant to play on wide screens.

I bought mine like a year or more ago and alot have changed since then. I went with the RG35XX because I didnt want to go with a Android System , is there any No Brain deal these days for a vertical handheld ? preferably go with the best chip and performance with a good ergonomic feel and good price point?
Im not looking to buy a Steamdeck or anything super high end but something to raise up from PS1 to some next gens like NDS/3DS DC/GC or maybe even up to WII/WIIU PS2/PS3/ > HIT OR MISS SWITCH.
@TechDweeb, How would you compare it to the potential and functionality of the Retroid P5 Mini? In no way do i need this, but im always looking for an upgrade. Currently have the RP4 Pro and pretty much every 3.5 variend out there
Usually when I watch this kind of video i'm like, "Cool but I have a Steam Deck"...however I might buy this.
That's what I kind of thought when I saw the mini. I thought the mini would be a good companion device to the steam deck
Yo Techdweeb, that was some slick dance moves bro. :D
I'll teach you sometime.
Dance Dweeb
Dance reveal!
You might have enjoyed the RP Mini more if you got one with the retro colours. The Saturn one looks super nice.
I went with the black one though, because I play with letterboxing.
But can you disable the lights at the bottom of the thumbsticks?
Yup!
I wasnt listening to any reviews till the dweeb dropped his video. Purchased one now ✌️
You'll love it
@TechDweeb I hope so, after I've got it all set up! 🎮🕹️☺️
Finally some Canadian reviews!

Dweeb, I'm surprised you aren't playing the CD audio hacked versions of the Donkey Kong Country games on the SNES. I can't go back
I didn't know about them. Thanks for the tip!
do you have a link for the bezels ?
Love your vids Dweeb, I would like to see streaming set up , and mapping keys for Wii games maybe. Pretty much any videos with your signature dweeb style.
Wii stuff would be great - like do you need to connect a Wiimote or ways to get around this.
