According to Chino this song is about how they were having late night recording sessions for the record and how he was trying to sleep during the day but having issues with sun coming in through his windows as he tried to block it out.
I think the album is 50 50, half the tracks are gold, half are a bit meh, I preferred Adrenaline in terms of the songs but this one had a much better sound. But the good tracks on this album are 100% bangers!!
It is meant to stop suddenly, its from a time where everything was more album focused, so it fits in to the next track. A lot of the 90's and early 00's metal and rock you have heard is album stuff, so some of those songs (Deftones, Tool in a big way) the endings are designed to mesh with the start of the next track. I always expect the next track ("Lhabia" ) to start when it ends, it's so engrained in me because I heard this album so much in the 90's. Metal and Rock have always been quite album focused rather than singles
So true man. The CD era was perfect for me in that sense. Sure you could skip a track faster than with cassettes but mostly you would listen to albums as a unit, from start to finish. And artists would build tracklists with a purpose. Not having Lhabia start when this songs ends still feels weird to me (i'm 42). And we hated singles CDs back then, mostly shorter versions for radio, and expensive for what they were!
We’re gonna see Lex in the mosh pits at a Deftones show. Rosemary and Rocket Skates are two more great songs. I think Brad would like Digital Bath, as it’s nothing like anything they’ve heard so far. It’s such a change up from everything else.
What the lyrics always meant to me was about just kinda not feeling the mainstream crowd. Like the sun, normally the life giver, has become toxic to us for whatever reason.
YEEEESSSSS By the way you may not know but this song was on The Matrix soundtrack Also, if you want a chill/hard song that just has a badass vibe, check out "Pink Maggit".
Chino's lyrics have always been sort of cryptic. More thematic half the time than a specific narrative. Works well with their atmospheric and dynamic sound IMO
I always see that as being influenced by graffiti. Like when you do a piece you sometimes pick a word for how pretty it looks. Or how pretty they sound.
Deftones Engine No. 9 or Bored. Also some Hed pe!! Hed pe!! Songs Suffa, Renegade, Killing Time, Ground, Here and Now, Bartender or Blackout. Thx & keep the great reactions coming👊🤟
Love the Deftones, great reaction guys. An old school bad ass Deftones song that a lot of people don't react to is Around the fur, it has nice hip hop drum beat with the heavier parts for Lex, check it out!
The Originals is my SHIT! And so are Deftones! Haha. Please do Passenger. That song features Maynard from Tool and is one of my favorite collaborations ever!
Found you guys today. Been bingewatching a bit...much. This band and song bring back a lot of memories. My first big festival Pinkpop in 1998. Saw Deftones for the first time there, still listen to them. They evolved and are still awesome. Saw them a couple of times after. Never disappointed.
I used to go to High school with the bass player's brother. We almost had him sing this song for a talent show so we could play this one. Someone backed out so it didn't get to happen. It would have been fun to see the reaction to the energy lol.
@@opethdan2408 Yes exactly! One of my favorite scenes in the movie, along with that song puts a time stamp immediately embedded in my brain, in the best possible way lol🔥🤟
That was always my fav Deftones song by far. I had a few others i liked but this was pretty much the only song of theirs on my playlist back in the day.
Hope you guys don’t mind me tapping through your months but the algorithm that brought me to you two has made me happy. Seeing your reactions to what is a good chunk of my soundtrack of my life is an absolute joy .
Wooo! I love this song! This was one of the first songs I had to learn on drums in the 90s. So catchy and chunky! Keep going with them!!!!! You’re both falling for them exactly as I imagined! I LOVE ME SOME DEFTONES! Low key probably my favorite band. Even up to the new album dropped last year. They are so diverse and cover the whole spectrum from the softest cosmic sound to pure metal. Many bands today were inspired by them. There’s so many songs to recommend, just do all of them! Lol. Thanks for this reaction! I stay nostalgia high when I watch most of your videos! SHOVE IT SHOVE IT SHOVE IT!!!
No no no no...."digital bath"!!!!!!! All of deftones are amazing but, that song is amazing and the song "around the fur" domestic drum meats ever. Ever....
Never listened to deftones, I just know their existence, but I never actually cared about this band nor to listen to their songs. Sounds good. Thanks Brad & Lex for the great reaction.
The lyrics are pretty cryptic but basically it's the vocalist Chino talking about the album making process made him have to adopt a Nocturnal sleep schedule so he struggled to sleep during the summer sun and shoving aside everything else to focus on the Album so when it's time to work and he walks the empty night streets of Sacramento wide awake and alone he felt a strange peace of mind through the strain "It's like my own little summer all to myself"
Interesting she mentions Queen Of The Damned (the Vampire Chronicles adaptation starring Aaliyah,) because Deftones are on that soundtrack, (they’re also on the soundtrack for The Crow: City Of Angels w/ the song “Teething,” if this era Deftones is up your alley.) For more Deftones I definitely recommend “Minerva,” “Kimdracula,” “Diamond Eyes,” “Ohms,” or “Entombed.” Some of my faves, though I love their whole catalogue.
The heavier and more aggressive it gets, the more Lex seems to lose control of herself. A joy to watch.
@SUBVERSE NATION Her reaction to Megadeth's The Conjuring was my favorite
time to let her hear some extreme metal, black, death, hardcore, sludge, doom etc
@@kongvinter33 feel like hardcore or nu would be the easiest introduction
Sooper fun!
Can we just appreciate how the Deftones were using “big mood” back in the 90’s
Honey, the 90s INVENTED "big mood" 😂
According to Chino this song is about how they were having late night recording sessions for the record and how he was trying to sleep during the day but having issues with sun coming in through his windows as he tried to block it out.
yep
Still think it's somehow about sex lol
@@Jason-hl2wy all of their songs give off a horny vibe ..😅
And used tin foil to block the sun lmao

Abe the drummer does not get enough props, I adore his drum style
Legit one of the best drummers in rock. I honestly put him up there with Chamberlin, Copeland, etc.
His drum phrasing is top notch and you always know it's Abe just from the sound of his kit. Such an iconic snare sound.
Maybe to you or in your town. The guy is a legend for more than 20 years now.
He is one of my favourites. I love focusing on his drum tracks. Super tasteful
@@andrepereira744 Sure he can be a legend and still underrated. Name me one Top Drummer list that he is even on? I'll wait.
The total album was intense...."be quiet and drive" being the absolute banger in my opinion!!!
I think the album is 50 50, half the tracks are gold, half are a bit meh, I preferred Adrenaline in terms of the songs but this one had a much better sound. But the good tracks on this album are 100% bangers!!

MY FAVORITE BAND!!! KEEP EM COMIN GUYS!
also gojira is gonna be on tour with them next year!

That frickin' bass line is so good. So simple yet works so well.

what do you mean? there's still a shit ton of "album focused" music
I loved how Deftones albums were albums not a group of singles..

Digital bath ❤
Rocket Skates, Engine #9, Tempest, Bored, Minerva
Lex is a true metal head at heart i think she's ready for a lot more of the aggressive heavier songs
She should check out System of a Down!
Minerva is one of their most Magical sound for me. Sounds like a depressing dream but in a positive vibe.
Deftones can do anything. Soft song, heavy music, emotional music.
She is a natural headbanger! She's a rocker!🤘🤘🤘
Sounds like Lex prefers the Around the Fur and Adrenaline sound that the Deftones had. I do too, though i do like what they've evolved into as well.
me too
"Change" the first song you did is actually on the Queen of the Damned soundtrack.
What the lyrics always meant to me was about just kinda not feeling the mainstream crowd. Like the sun, normally the life giver, has become toxic to us for whatever reason.
It's nice to see people who look like me appreciate music that I been loving my whole life.
For me, this song is driving home at 3AM on back roads with the windows down.
People always say that they want to shove the clouds aside (society), but the Sun (good ppl) cloud their eyes...
Says more about the individuals in society than it tells you about society itself

Wasn't really that cryptic though. It was literally about it being too damn hot.
Brad's brows weren't ready ! Soo happy yall reacting to this ! 🤘

Chinos lyrics are either exactly what he’s talking about or a metaphor.
Be quiet and drive is the one you do next

The song Change is on Queen of the Damned movie (Vampire movie)
Lex is such a natural born metalhead. 🤘😆🤘
