Anything that is man made and prepackaged is bad for your health. I think this keto diet in the short distance will help but in the long run you have to eat a colorful array of veggies. I do agree nightshade are bad for those who suffer with arthritis and autoimmune diseases. But cooked tomatoes and eggplant once in a while is good. I agree some veggies should be cooked to be beneficial

The problem with keto is that there’s too much animal meats and I think those are all going to be a detrimental to our health moving forward in the long run. Especially eating bacon and beef and chicken I think vegetables are a lot better not so much animal products in meats and dairy cheese are horrendous on the body eating them in limited amounts far and few in between or the best way to go

How sad. I understand that keto is a completely different way of processing glucose but is it worth not eating what mother Earth gave us for good health? Fruits and vegetables are not to be given up or any new way of eating. I did keto for part of a year and lost weight on it. I understand that it works for awhile but it didn't sit well with me that for one thing... A lot of animals had to die in order for me to be on keto which also is horrible for the environment. The other thing that didn't sit well with me was that I knew in my heart I should not be bypassing fruits and vegetables. Today I am vegan and I am so relieved to understand good health from the vegan perspective. It fills me with joy. The keto diet could not have come at a worse time when our ecosystem is on the brink. You're an intelligent man, you must get bursts of insight that you are ignoring so that you can continue your keto diet. I think you should listen to your inner voice that's telling you you're missing out. God gave you an exceptionally beautiful brain.

Learning to combine keto with my specific blood type diet and I have noticed when I stay away from specific lectin foods that are sticky for my blood type it makes a huge difference! Everyone IS so different and we all would do well to take the wisdom and adapt for what works for us individually. It’s so great that Thomas puts stuff like this out there because though not a holy grail it’s very helpful to remember when there are soooo many choices of veggies which ones might not be the best choice- and truly tomatoes are actually more harmful to me than processed pancakes or keto snacks (as far as a direct inflammation and arthritic response) we all need to test and see what is best for us as an individual. Not get all judgmental and bothered but to be grateful and take what works for us! Come on let’s get healthy in our hearts as well as our bodies!!! Yay

I do 3 months on low carb and two weeks off low carb. By "off low carb" what I usually do is make a big pot of vegetable soup. I put in everything....potatoes...tomatoes...green beans...peas....carrots....corn....ground beef etc....I eat two meals a day and fast 16/8 so I eat it as one meal over the course of several days. This is the source of my carbs for those two weeks. I don't eat bread or rice or pasta even off keto for those two weeks. I think its important for your body to be able to handle an occasional influx of carbs and I prefer that those carbs come from veggies.

Before Keto, I thought I couldn't handle a lot of cruciferous veggies, but my stomach issue alleviated after starting keto. I can eat most anything, even cauliflower and broccoli but in moderation. Sometimes it seems our bodies can't handle certain things when in reality, it is how much we are eating of that particular thing. For example, a plate full of broccoli instead of a few stalks. When our stomachs are upset, it might not be because of a food intolerances but rather that too much of that food was consumed for the stomach to digest calmly. Just a thought and shared experience.

I didn't know that I had chosen the worst combo: 50 gr of spinach per day plus any frequency of cacao with cinnamon powder per day -- Whoaa, kidney pain galore. Some heavy research later and I fixed my pain within two weeks via the oxalate etc avoidance routine. My study lead me into FODMAP and a few other noteworthy areas. But I learned my lesson there to second what Thomas is saying ;) Great job Thomas.

Carrots raw vs carrots cooked. Cooked or steamed carrots is a higher insulin spike than when the carrot is raw. Mainly because raw means the cells of the plant stay closed. Raw means less nutrition, but still a heap of fibre. For me, I just treat any vege's carb content as part of my daily limit. Sweet potatoes are awesome. I'm glad you said, keep the quantity low. I knew nothing about lectins. I love capsicum and tomato.

I just looked online, a serving of red onions is 94 grams with 9.5g of carbs (1.3g is fiber) That should mean than you get 8.2g of carbs per 94 grams of red onion. A serving of shallots is 43 grams, has 7.1g of carbs (1.4g is fiber). So you get 6.7grams of carbs per 43 grams of shallot. That means that gram for gram shallots have more carbs. So yes, shallots have less carbs per serving but red onions have less carbs for the same of shallot.

A healthy diet is one with healthy variety. So many super foods including even our beloved avocados have oxalates it seems. I had to cut, nut, sardines, spinach (along with some other greens) beet root powder, tea, cinnamon and turmeric. Beet juice is not the same as beets.
Same with any other fruit or vegetable.

The juice will not be the same as the vegetable. Check out dr berg about beetroot. The fiber makes a difference in how fast the glucose is absorbed. I love beet juice too lol, but in terms of keto its better to blend with the fiber and drink that.

But why is there a radish in the thumbnail? I have 5 or 6 in my daily salad, thinly sliced; amazingly crunchy and nutritious! Radishes are highly underrated. Maybe I’ll self appoint as a radish ambassador.

Very good to know about cooked kale and chard removing so much of the oxalates, since I'm very sensitive to oxalates, I discovered it in an unusual way - the 3 times I was on a cruise I didn't have any oxalate symptoms aka diarrhea, and I figured it out that the ship didn't serve any oxalate foods. I do low carb and IF, take so much probiotics - it's a challenge to have to avoid mineral rich greens, so now maybe I can enjoy some. Thank you so much!

I'm sorry but spinach has too many benefits for me to give up. Apart from the many health benefits, it increases cell turnover and my skin has never looked this amazing.

I actually don't recognize these as food, at least that's what I usually tell people because I can't explain why I don't like these specifically, now I have an excuse at least.

Interesting about the spinach. I did keto for 6 months (and lost 53 lbs!) and baby spinach was a staple food for my salads, usually 50g just about daily. I was very strict and used Cronometer, which helped immensely 👍
