The 10 Commandments of Keto: Full Transformation Guide - Thomas DeLauer
1) Thou Shall Not Hate Carbs (your body still needs them)
You still need to get your micros in on keto, hence why you shouldn’t neglect certain carb sources (i.e. veggies)
2) Thou Shall Not rely only on MCTs
bHB is a ligand for certain receptors in the body - it binds to receptors on the surfaces of cells and activates processes within those cells as a result (similar to how neurotransmitters and hormones work)
bHB can activate hydroxycarboxylic Acid Receptor 2 (HCAR2), a Protein Coding gene - among its related pathways are Peptide ligand-binding receptors and cAMP signaling pathway
HCAR2 activation by bHB (or other ligands) reduces lipolysis in adipocytes - for bHB, this might represent a feedback mechanism to regulate availability of the fatty acid precursors of ketone body metabolism
By doing this, ketones can actually regulate their own production through negative feedback - elevated levels of ketone bodies slow down the rate at which lipid is removed from fat cells, likely so that this fatty acid release doesn’t spiral out of control
*Subset of people that greatly increase their fat intake and they think it’ll speed up the fat burning processes, not knowing that fatty acid release is regulated*
www.ncbi.nlm.n...
3) Thou Shall Get Adequate Omega 3 and be careful of Omega 6
Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) - main function is to produce signaling molecules called eicosanoids, which help reduce inflammation
Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) - important for healthy brain development and function
Many keto dieters eat way too many omega-6s and not enough omega-3s - commercially farmed animal products typically have higher omega-6 to omega-3 ratios
dietary omega-3 fatty acids directly affect arachidonic acid metabolism because they displace arachidonic acid from membranes and compete with arachidonic acid for the enzymes that catalyze the biosynthesis of thromboxanes, prostaglandins and leukotrienes
www.ncbi.nlm.n...
4) Thou Shall still Consider Fiber and Sugar Alcohols (sometimes)
Soluble fiber creates a gel-like substance that acts as roughage and pushes things through - it also can slow down the absorption of fats because the gel sort of envelops the fats
If you have one gram of soluble fiber, it draws in a bunch of water with one potential risk factor
Whereas with insoluble fiber, we have to consume 10 grams of insoluble fiber to get the same mechanical amount, to get that same physical structure - 10 units of potential risk
5) Thou Shall not Rely on Ketone Levels all the time
Fall in malonyl-CoA concentration activates carnitine acyltransferase I such that long-chain fatty acids can be transported through the inner mitochondrial membrane to the enzymes of fatty acid oxidation and ketogenesis
Food increases the liver concentration of malonyl-CoA, inhibits carnitine acyltransferase I and reverses the ketogenic process
6) Thou Shall Get Adequate Minerals in
Carbs hold a lot of water, so when in a ketogenic state - especially in the beginning - your body burns through your stored glucose, so you’ll be releasing a lot of water
This occurs because glycogen is stored along with water in a ratio of 3-4 grams of water for every 1 gram of stored carb - as glycogen is depleted, water is lost
Under conditions of low insulin, the kidneys absorb less sodium and excrete more into the urine - the primary action of insulin on sodium balance is exerted on the kidneys to stimulate sodium reabsorption
7) Thou Shall not be Afraid of Protein
Your cells use gluconeogenesis to ensure you don’t die when there are no carbs in your system
Our body can’t ever drop glucose levels to zero, even on ketosis - just as too much glucose is toxic, too little can kill you.
It’s a myth that eating too much protein on keto can “activate” gluconeogenesis, spike your blood sugar, and instantly kick you out of ketosis
Gluconeogenesis is DEMAND driven, not supply driven
8) Thou Shall be Prepared (bring protein shakes or nuts with you)
Get My Pricing on Ample Keto: mbsy.co/wNf7J
Ample Keto with Pea Protein: mbsy.co/wNf7L
9) Thou Shall Evade the Keto Police (if you come out of keto, it won't hurt you)
Using the refeed with carbs example to show that it can be beneficial to come out of keto every now and then
10) Thou Shall Stick with it for at least 8 weeks (fat adaptation)
Ketone metabolism is highly relevant to mitochondrial adaptation since the ketogenic and ketolytic enzymes needed to support nutritional ketosis are located in mitochondria

2 years ago I was diagnosed with Chrohns disease at 28 years old. Every hour of everyday was a struggle, in short my life revolved around the toilet and this led me to lose my job, my GF and my life.
Doctors prescribed drug after drug and nothing made me feel better.
So a year ago I decided enough was enough!! I needed to heal my body with nutrition and exercise, Keto and IF being key. I've just come back from the hospital and I am showing virtually no symptoms! My inflammation is almost zero, my blood is as healthy as any 20 year old. It's been a long journey and alot of sacrifice. But wow! I wish doctors instead of prescribing meds would help people and support people to make the right lifestyle changes. Thomas you've helped me alot! I feel like crying when I realise how far I've come. My life on keto and IF is amazing and I feel incredible! Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou for making these videos to help all of us lead healthier happier lives 💪💪💪
GhrisCreen I’m the US, the medical profession is broken. Too many people becoming doctors for wealth and not caring. They become tied to big Pharma. Most doctors I’ve seen in the past will be prescription engines, treating symptoms not causes, and plastering you with their drugs of choice. My last doctor was so obtuse, and in my mind conducting malpractice. She refused blood tests when I found candida was the root cause to my conditions. She couldn’t make money on that.
Well done! 💪🏼
Doctors treat symptoms not the whole body.
Aw i am so happy for you! 👍 Great job!
I have Crohns...Did you follow this man's teaching on Keto.??? I am loving his videos. Will start tomorrow.

Bro the commandments are already in the description box! 😂 Did you eagerly just type this in without skimming through the description box? Haha he always puts that in there
June Corrigan read #6 in the description box. Thomas says that’s a myth.
I do the same in my notebook to memorize what I have learn :D
You are incredibly thoughtful Ken Moses, thank you for being our Cliff Notes Cheat sheet here, wow, you rock!
One thing I really respect about Mr DeLauer is he is willing to learn and grow and not just stick to one way of thinking to protect his brand.
Tyler1989 I agree.
I was a strict follower of Dave Asbery, the Bulletproof diet creator, but he is adamant on never going back on his words, even if they were wrong.
I still love him, but I have to fact check things he says now.
DeLauer has changed his opinion on nutrition several times, and I respect him for not being afraid of saying he has gotten things wrong. Brilliant and authentic man.
@@TylerJacksonMagic ehh he talks too much and sites too much scientific bs in his latest videos this one is straight forward and simple some of us have things to do and don't want to sit around watching a 20 minute video that could be 2 minutes especially since he doesn't add a summary of the video in the description anymore
Ur Mum Tbh, that’s kind of your fault. Most of us want to know why things work, and not just believe a dude on the internet. Sorry you have such a busy life you can’t learn about your body.
@@urmum7461 I mean. 2 minutes is a real stretch. Besides he is not trying to make you lose weight only, he is trying to provide factual evidence that this thing could improve your life if you stick to it.
Knowing is half the battle. You don't have to come here, you could probably fair extremely well with a sheet of things that you are allowed to eat and what to avoid.
Sometimes it's not that simple though and you may hit a problematic spot down the road.
Besides that we live in a world were big companies make extreme amounts of money by killing us slowly and fund studies to keep the general populous out of the know and you got yourself a difficult argument to defend here.
Besides that, if it was easy and quick nobody would be fat.
Agreed!!
I’m 93lbs down now - started Keto in September of 2018 - and I go off Keto every once in awhile. I’ll eat a Cauliflower Crust Pizza or some Chinese Food. I haven’t gone so far as to eat Taco’s or anything containing corn, or huge amounts of fructose contains products (fruit) because I was diagnosed with a Severe Fatty Liver along with Hemochromatosis. And fructose goes straight to the liver. So, I stay away from anything that has corn in it, or fructose. And I certainly won’t touch anything with High Fructose Corn Syrup In it because that stuff is just straight out poison. I’m aiming to hit 100lbs loss this month (07/19). That’ll put me at 221lbs. I might try to go even lower because the Keto diet is so favorable to my palate. I love it. And this guy - Thomas DeLauer - helped me so much. Thanks Thomas.
just beware of gluconeogenesis
I started 2 weeks ago and lost 22lbs, I was expecting going in a slow weigh loss. Your comments make me realise that I can go even deeper. Thanks
Keep the faith! You can do it!!
All the best to you on your journey! You will do it.
great job 👍
What a great keto video .. COMMANDMENT #11 don’t preach to non keto people unless they ask . People won’t succeed with it unless they want it.
This!!!! I stopped talking about Keto a long time ago. No one wanted to hear it. Got a lot of discouragment. I stayed the course. I lost 30 pounds 🔥 They have stayed the same. Don't get me wrong....if they ask or listen....I am all about helping someone get on Keto ❤
Heather Rose yes been keto for a year and a half and just recently past month been helping a friend and she’s losing . . Congrats on u as well !!!
You are so correct. Feel this too
Yes & Amen!!! Your comment was Epic!!! Blessings Beautiful
Exactly
You have a really good way of promoting sponsor products without being too “hard sell” about it, and I appreciate that!
I always had food craving close to sleep time. Drinking salted glass of water helped with that a great deal.
solgam nearly midnite and just smashed nearly 3 cups of oat clusters I will try your method next time, cheers.
Here in germany we call it "sole Kur". You put Himalayan salt chunks in a container wit water and it dissolves until it Stopps. Then u know the water has enough minerals. U take a tablespoon of this mixture and put it in a big glass of Luke warm water. Normally u take it in the mornings on an empty stomache. I didn't know u can do it in the evenings too. I often have cravings at night I will try it too
I find that keto has helped me with midnight cravings. I also try going bed earlier as well, instead of staying up late watching mukbangs on TH-cam lol.
What do you do if you cannot have any salt.
@@donnastone3183 why can't u? If u can't have it u just don't use it

Siim Land! I have a question, I have seen some of your videos and was wondering if you could help me with some confusion, so when it comes to strength and building muscle, will someone on Keto be just as strong as someone on a regular diet or stronger or weaker? Say both people had the same variables, but the only difference is one was on Keto and the other was on regular and they trained for a Year. The reason I am asking this is because I want to get stronger, and I want to get abs, and I know Keto is Healthy! But I don't know if it will limit my strength abilities, or should I just do Keto 5 times a week and then do a normal diet on the Weekend like Brandon Carter does and suggests, called The Cyclical Ketogenic Diet
U here?! ♥️
Roger Schwarzinger I am more explosive aka stronger or faster when I eat carbs. When on keto I can go on longer but a bit weaker when lifting heavy weights and a bit slower when running 10 km.
So if you compete in strength or explosive sports you should absolutely eat carbs.
If you hobby train it doesn’t really matter in the long run.

Excellent, thanks!
THX!
Commandment X is so important. As a beginner I jumped in using "Keto cheaters" I inadvertently ate fruits and vegetables that exceed my Carbs.....took me several days to figure that out. FINALLY wrote out a list that YOU suggested and after 3 weeks the results were immediate. If you are organzied, follow from the get go what Thomas tells you, you will lose weight. Always be conscious and AT LEAST commit for 50 - 60 days!!!!!!! Thanks Thomas.
16:09 Hahaha anyone here during Rona times thinking “what normal life?”... started keto during lockdown. Perfect time 👌
Hi Bessie! Same here...I started it two weeks ago, and was feeling good about myself then I messed up Saturday night and ate 2 slices of pizza. I felt like crap yesterday, but I got back on the wagon and feeling better today. Wishing you the best, and be well!
Started 10 days ago. It works great together with 16/8 fasting and not having to eat that much aka not having to go grocery shopping several times a week during Corona :D
@@lorivogel4535 you can do a few slices of Cali flower pizza😍
I really needed to hear this today....i have been feeling super guilty about falling off my keto lifestyle...beating myself up daily and binge eating sugars and carbs...
I think after this video i can quit hating myself and start loving myself again...thank you thomas you have helped me in more ways than you even know.💜
In his other videos he says that your cheat meals should still be Keto friendly. You can eat fat bombs, Keto friendly pancakes, Keto cakes, and that this is the time to have a little fun with the Keto sweets or sweet potatoes in a Keto friendly way.
*I love how this video covers all the essential principles of the keto diet in a concise and informative manner. It's a great resource for beginners and a helpful reminder for those already on their keto journey.*
I agree with your viewpoint on taking in sodium during ketosis, but for now I'm gonna take it with a grain of salt.

Doing intermittent fasting with Keto I started at 269 pounds and this morning I weighed in at 227. I am thinking of my base weight between 180-200 and float in between the two. Once I get to 200 I am going to do resistance training. Thank you for your videos and story as we have the same story, I once was 280 also but my peak weight 4 years ago was 340
It's been 6 months! How've you been doing?!?
Well ty for asking sorry I just seen your question lol I weigh 203 pounds. Crazy looking back and seeing what I looked like. Now people don’t recognize me. I do not recognize myself lol. I hope your well and once again ty for asking about my progress🙂

hi there.can you teach me how to start with keto IF ? i have been doing intermittent fasting but could stick to not eating sweets and bread..i have a sweet tooth and couldnt lose weight bcoz of this.please share some tips . appreciate your help.thank you😊
Honestly, I wanted to do a treat day (it's been 6 months) and this video took some of the guilt away. It's only a day! thanks for all your videos. You are so awesome.
I too have been struggling with health issues. I was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease 2 years ago. I went from a lean, active healthy person who enjoyed hiking and other outdoor activities to an invalid with an extra 20 lbs. and took 11 prescriptions who could barely climb steps.Words could not describe the depression from loosing everything I loved in life to becoming a hermit with chronic pain. About 6 months ago I became angry and decided not to accept my new life as an invalid.I studied diets and am focused on the MIND diet and KETO. Both include healthy fats, vegetables and protein. I lean toward a mediteran flavores. I am slowly eliminating my prescription medications with a healthy diet, moderate exercise, meditation and rest. I feel so much better. My chronic pain is gone and I have had a significant loss of tremor. I am not advocating the removal of doctor prescribed medications for everyone, but changing my diet and lifestyle has had a profound impact on my life.
I’m the crusty old man sitting at Denny’s
But I’ve gotten up and made my way to the door THANKS THOMAS 😅
The more videos I watch, the more I greatly appreciate this channel. I so appreciate the science and the clinical explanations for Keto. I have been researching for over a month, just started yesterday. This is by far the best info I have found. It speaks to the science nerd in me. I hate all the videos that speak in general terms without the science to back it up. I love the recipes other people have, but at the end of the day, I would rather have the science.
Thanks for your helpful keto tips. I am watching from Germany. I was diagnosed with breast cancer a few years back. Had an operation, nothing else. I have been sticking to a keto diet and a fasting lifestyle, however, I constantly fall off the wagon. As an emotional eater and bread addict, it is always difficult. Your videos have helped me a lot to be inspired again and start again with more science in the back of my mind. I am currently on OMAD with a ketogenic diet and feel great. Irritable bowels syndromes all have gone. Blood sugar levels are balanced, I feel fresh an fit and the weight is falling off. Thank you x
Omgosh. I teared up. I have felt like absolute garbage for going off keto for 2 weeks. I didn't go crazy when I went off but everyone I knew thought I quit and was making me feel terrible. My mind was just spent from focusing so hard. I started at 376lbs and I'm almost back into the 200's. I needed this video. Every commandment helped me. Especially the protein and keto police. I was always so damn hard on myself if my Macros weren't perfect. Thank you. Thank you so much.
Thank you for sharing all your years of research! I wrongly thought I was at 60 too darn old to slim down...WRONG!! Thanks for helping everyone's journey to get healthy first..while shedding pounds!!
Hi my name is Debbie, I’m 60 I’m weighing in at 170 lbs 5”3 not sure who’s really good to follow

This sodium thing is so true!
Literally makes me FEEL.
Its like lo carbs and sodium supplementing amplifies my sense of feelings.
Everything is better and I seek outside things more.
I took a teaspoon of kosher salt yesterday and I randomly left the house without my phone.
I ended up walking to a friends house and just hangout then hit the gym.
It was like I had things I needed to do and there was no choice to not do them.
I just did them.
I still feel better and this is the next day for me almost

How could this get a single downvote? No one gives more amazing and insightful info on youtube! Love your channel Thomas! Thank you!
I am so glad I watched this tonight. I had forgotten about the 6-8 wk commitment as I keep off the wagon in my 2nd, 3rd attempt to restart after coming home to work in March. Thank you so much. Got it
I did a version of Keto about 2 years ago, I lasted almost 6 months... but, I did not have a program and did not follow the diet it very well... so, a year or so later I am still overweight, and miserable... I just signed up for Dr Berg's program and I am gonna rely on his program and recommendations. I am excited to get healthy again!... I have watches several of Dr DeLauer's videos and think this information is going to be helpful with understanding the process better..... Thank you
Suggestion for a new video. How start a weight lifting program for someone who has never done resistance training. Give instructions to those of us who are over 50 or 60.
Check out "The Barbell Prescription." Excellent books based on the Starting Strength program but adjusted for the middle age and up crowd. Also check out their affiliate channel Grey Steel.
Start with very simple moves and start little.
You must slowly condition your joints and tendons to this new stress that is exercise.
When you workout at first, even if it feels like you could do way more reps or heavier reps, don't. Fix yoiurself a small exercise routine at first, and slowly build up from that. Take it from someone that started to strong and damaged his elbow tendon and shoulder tendon. 7 years later and I still can't grip with my left arm and raise my right shoulder without it getting blocked or hurting.
Tendons almost do not heal back.
So start really slow, and focus on the movement, it's important not to damage your joints with bad posture, moves, and doing it too fast (like crossfit do, just rushing through the exercises).
Hi Thomas.. I am all the way in South Africa... My name is Lebo.. Our version of Keto is called Banting...I have been on it for almost 4 years. I started when I was 37 and the weight fell of just like that... I am so so so glad that I stumbled upon your channel... Because I was so angry at my body for just reaching a plateau that I couldn't explain.. And the fact that I am 42 just added to things.. I think Banting/Keto just went south for me when I reached 40.. I tried everything but the stomach fat ,especially, just wouldn't budge. I have been watching all your videos for the past 2 weeks and I just love how yo make sense of everything.. I have been doing Keto incorrectly from the onset.. And I understand that maybe the initial weight loss was just water and when it came time to lose FAT... My BODY WAS JUST SAYING NOOOOOOOOO... I ain't doing it.. You really are a God sent.. And thank you so much for helping me... I really love your explanations.. May God bless you and your wife and baby 💞🔆
The sugar analogy in the 1st commandment is brilliant. Thanks for all you do Thomas!
I've been fairly strictly following the keto diet for about a year and a half now, and find I still have something new to learn each and every day. Thank you so much for the literal volume of information you have here on your channel. Really helps me stay focused and educated.
Thank you Thomas. I subscribed months ago, went on Keto for my sons wedding and lost 28lbs in 3 months but then lost focus. I’m type 2 diabetic and need to lose 80-90lbs so know Keto is the best way of life for me. I’ve been searching for the incentive to get me back on it and this video has done it 🎉 Thank you sooooo much 😘🇬🇧
Don’t do it for some other reason or for someone else- do it for YOU.
😉👍💪✌️❤️
Went on keto diet Easter 2019, due to doctor wanting me on metformin for diabetes, I took one and made sick as a dog. Decided right then to do something else. Not only I don't take that anymore I am off of my blood pressure pill, and omeprazole that I took for 25 yrs. Many times I have tried to get off omeprazole, I believe cutting out all bad oils was the main culprit. I could go on and on. Bottom line keto saved my life.
Great list! Not what I was expecting. I wish extra protein didn't make me feel super hungry though, but I love it! #8 is so super true. My keto doesn't look like everyone's keto, but it works for me. 130 pounds gone!
I watch you and Dr. Berg all the time, I've been doing intermittent fasting and Keto for over a year. I feel BETTER, my weight stabilized, but I still can't get under 200#'s at 6'-1". I just wish I could have someone follow me around and let me know what I'm doing wrong. I'll keep watching and hope of of the videos finally shines a light on what else I need to do.
Thomas, can you do a video on water? Comparing Distilled Water vs Spring Water vs Filtered water, etc. and how it affects your body.
It doesnt and you are wasting your money.
Thomas, I don't want to sound sappy or distracted by your biceps, but seriously..I felt the love you have for your fellow man/woman. It was like u we're anxiously concerned! I love it.. you rock! Thanks for your time and efforts..I sent this to all my peeps on their way to Balance❤️❤️
I am following Thomas's program to the tee and it's working BIGTIME! Thank you so much Thomas! You are AMAZING! Oh, and I watched your Aldi shopping guide and I am on track to lose a lot of weight! Thanks!
Normally I just want all of the bullet point items in your videos, but this was a refreshing way to address a list of items. Instead of just going through the list, each item is it's own scene and story, it's own segment. You provide some mental break or white space for us to digest or appreciate what you're going over.
Hubby and I are still fairly new, a couple weeks of doing keto. This has been so helpful already! Goes in depth but still keeping it simple. Thanks for all that you do!
TOPIC I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR ABOUT --- One of my commandments has become about eating enough. I am no longer hungry, in ketosis that happens. I have found I need to eat enough food or I don't lose. That becomes an issue with the concept of don't eat unless you are hungry. So, I have to work at my macros and be sure to look at enough protein, enough balance in everything I eat. (ex. don't eat all your protein and ignore the kale on my plate). Thank you for all the work and research you do.
Hey Tom just wanted to say u have been a great teacher in my keto journey. Keep up the good work.
I love your science based videos that don't put me to sleep. I have learned quite a bit and feel that being informed keeps me motivated. On another note I wish Ample made those meal replacements without stevia. I know quite a few people in my small circle that, like myself, can't digest stevia. :(
Thank you for another great video! I follow your advice and I rely on your info above all others out there. I have lost 52lbs. since February following Keto + fasting. I have more to go, so I am going to continue what's working! Your commandments are very helpful tips while on Keto. I used to freak out when the ketone reading would fluctuate or slip down a notch or two. Thanks for clearing that up! Also, thanks for the Ample link...will try!
This was undoubtedly the most helpful "Keto video" I've seen in a while. It addresses all the reason I was hesitant to even start keto (all the naysayers and fear mongers about keto, that are pushing their own diets). Anytime I look at a diet option the first question I ask is, What is the exit plan for this diet? Many do not have any exit plans. Those are generally the most unsafe plans.
Blown away at the different in omega 3s in grass fed beef!
I’ve been doing keto and OMAD for 8 months and have lost 110+ lbs. It works.
Bad Carbs, bad Carbs! What’ you gonna do when they come for you!
It's been a lot of fun watching Thomas learn and update his info as he goes along. I love the updated complete guide to keto now that he's learned so much since the last version of it. Keep learning and teaching kind sir, thank you as always. You have a little pep in your step lately, and it's very refreshing, it makes your videos a lot more enjoyable, not that they weren't before, but you get the idea.
Thank you for doing all the research and explaining it clearly!!!
This video was informative, but also entertaining. Love it!
Today is officially day1 AGAIN thanks to this !
Ive been trying for 3 weeks almost went mad, seriously. Especially with counting every single gram of carb in fiber, the protein fear and being HELLA confused all the time...
This has made life so frkn much easier i wish i had seen this earlier... I've been watching Thomas's content for months but I'm always more on the IF side as i was kinda scared to get on keto, but this is a life saver for beginners (and this is the most I've seen Thomas move in a video ngl it's like a day in a life)
Thanks A LOT !
Early in the video about Carb intake! I understand what you're suggesting however you seem to use the terms "Carbs" and "Glucose" interchangeably quite often. No the body does not needs Carbs. Yes the body does need Glucose. You mention Gluconeogenesis but do you actually require carb intake for glucose? According to what so many in the Keto community, including you, suggest is your body can make all the glucose it needs from protein and other stuff to manufacture the glucose it needs. Carbs not required.
Again in regards to Glucose/Carbs:
You consume Carbs which in turn is turned in to Glucose. So using them interchangeably can be confusing.
Not suggesting you're wrong/incorrect but just some thoughts.
Love your stuff.
U just saved my mind 😌, I have put myself into Keto but I realized I did that years ago, picked up weight, being over 40 it was difficult, only 20 pounds 💷 no problem, but it was, stress from loosing a sister and well food, couldn't burn it as fast but I've always been health savvy, every commandment I needed to hear, ty so much 😀 a definite much share for overall health
Hey Thomas, can you do a video on long term effects of Keto? It seems like a lot of people think Keto is gonna clog your arteries and give you heart and health problems long term from eating so much fat. I’d be curious to hear your perspective on this.
It will fix almost every health problem you have and the longer you do it the more benefits you get
My doctor took me off of 2 high blood pressure prescriptions after only 3 months on keto. My heart was working better than it had in 20 years, I'm not borderline diabetic any longer and my cholesterol levels are now normal. It has now been 8 months and I have lost 40lbs with no exercise. I have many disabilities so this has been a lifesaver.
I always learn something new from your videos. They're fantastic. I am back on the keto diet after a year of carbing out and I'm losing weight again, feeling more mentally alert, less sluggish. I don't plan to stay consistently keto, but I don't want to return to the high weight/tired state either. I think that when I finish the 6 weeks and am at my desired weight goal, I'm going to balance things out a bit. We'll see how it goes!
I have been following these concepts for the last 2 months, best decision I made. I’ve been experimenting for a while for the right diet plan. Thank you # TD
These advises are very wise and true. This man knows what is he talking about. I have tried and confirm everything. Thanx and thumbs up Mr.
"All know about keto nutrition and diets. Meals and plans for a better life" a book by Thomas DeLauer.
Waiting for it tho.
I started using mct oil daily and its kept me more regular then anything ive tried in my life. I have made sure i have fiber the last few years but in combination with mct oil i have enjoyed being regular and for someone like me who has struggled since childhood its a wonderful thing.
This was really great even for an experienced low-carber. I appreciate your insight regarding the keto police. I personally have found my body feels better when I eat fruit a few times a week, and for some reason it doesn’t kick me out of ketosis (apples, avocados, blueberries.. not bananas). I’m always unsure if it’s “ok” to do this and this video reminds me that hey, if I feel good and my body performs well with a little fruit, I can just ignore the police. Also adding that my body needs significantly more protein than the standard keto diet recommends, perhaps because I work out a lot and I’m active nonstop with my kids. 1.2-1.5 grams per pound of body weight for me and I am satiated. Without it I find myself thinking about eating too often.
Blackberries and raspberries!!😃
Organic of course 😉☝️
I learned so much from this video, I relied on urine strips and have been so frustrated thinking my low levels meant I wasent in ketosis, not knowing they were unreliable and only measure excess ketones, so thank you.
Thanks for not saying "Mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell" rofl. Its basically a meme at this point and I appreciate you elegantly stepping around it :P Great video man this stuff is always so interesting, and my wife and I are starting full time this weekend. Already intermittent fasting as well so really looking forward to it!
I have to watch all his videos about keto. My personal trainer told me I didn’t lose any weight on keto because i did it wrong. I felt really discouraged. I will try it again
Keto + OMAD + 30 Min simple walk/exercise .
Do this for 1 Month and see magical difference . I am doing since 1 Week and lost 4 kgs and never felt hungry .
Thomas, I really like you. I've seen your videos show up on TH-cam for about a year but never clicked on them until recently because I always thought you were a typical (stereotypical) 'meathead' bodybuilder type -- probably very cocky, not intelligent, and a show-off. You're the opposite of all of those things! You come across as quite humble and down to earth, and it seems you enjoy teaching us and take your work here seriously, and I appreciate that. Cheers, Elizabeth
Hey Thomas.
Love your Videos.
But could you Talk about Phytic Acid in Nuts like macadamias and If it is nescessary to soak and then dehydrate them. How to store them etc.
That would be awesome. :D
Thank you
I appreciate you addressing in several of your commandments that keto can make people over the top. It can be crazy making if you allow it to. If it is something you plan to sustain, you have to get rid of the constant intensity. I think we are our own keto police sometimes. You can be serious about keto without being a nut. I am 4 months in and am slowly learning that I won’t ruin things if I have a beer (one in 4 months) or a donut (have had one in 4 months) or if I don’t test my blood constantly.
I have chosen one source of all my learning: YOU. Thank you for all your work.
I love your videos. I looked into ample. It is pretty expensive plus it has 11 grams of carbohydrates!!!!
My meal replacement for OTG is chlorella (25g) + spirulina (25g) for nearly all essential nutrient and 25g high quality proteins.
Then for calories, I can use macadamia nuts, maybe MCT powder.
*Summary*
*1. Don’t lean too heavily on MCT
*
*2. Don’t hate on good carbs
*
*3. Add Omega 3's and subtract Omega 6's
*
*4. Get enough salt (healthy salt)*
*5. Don’t rely too heavily on ketone levels*
*6. Don’t worry too much about protein*
*7. Be prepared (with healthy snacks)*
*8. Evade the keto kops*
*9. Consider fiber (subtract 1/2)*
*10. Stick with it (for at least 6 to 8 weeks)*
I wish I saw your post before watching this video! Tom is soooo frickin' wordy! Get to the point!!! Thanks!
@@coolcad lol yes indeed
I guess I enjoy the details. Sure good to have them condensed like this but you still ought to learn the reasons why 💁🏻♀️
Thank you👍🏽🙏🏾😊❤
Thank you for saving me
You keep making this journey simpler to navigate. It gets better each time.
Ok Thomas be real, are you reading my mind when thinking about new video topics? hahahah Thanks for uploading this! I'm getting back on track
Hemp seeds have good Omegas 3s and are nearly a perfect food in and of themselves. And have a mild flavor and can easily be integrated. Also they balance hormones. Contain chlorophyll, minerals, protein. A great addition.
Dude you're becoming a good actor with your mini skits. You should audition for the next Fast and Furious. FF 14 - Low Carb.
My wife and I were fortunate enough to have had dinner with renowned caterpillar trainer Dr. Fjiersten Burbenginstin in January of 1972, just before the soviet invasion of Gerblansk. One thing Dr. Burbenginstin told us, which I will never forget, is "coffee in lieu of cake is never a mistake".
Fantastic video as usual, Thomas!!! Wish I had followed these commandments when I first started keto way of eating last year! I am now, though 😁❤️❤️❤️ Keep up the great work 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I have never watched a 30 minute video on nutrition and somehow you make it easy to learn. Love you bro!
this is hilarious at 9:20 .... just a random message from the shirt "Enjoy Coca Cola" in the middle of Keto Commandments. Great video Thomas as always.
Thomas, great comprehensive guide here. I’d also respectfully add, not because I’m a credentialed expert but from personal trial and error, that there is absolutely such a thing as consuming too much fat. The Keto police you mentioned might want to lock me up for this one but I know I’ve hit plateaus in the past on Keto and it was from getting carried away with fat bomb snacks, too much cheese, and too much nut butters. Especially for folks looking to lose weight, be mindful that fat is not a magical macro nutrient that can be consumed at will. I personally found that restricting carbs was more critical than hitting certain fat counts. Thanks for this video. Great reminders for me and my Keto lifestyle.
Thank you, Thomas. Yet another great video full of sound advice. :)
WOW !!!... you are now The Official KETO MAN ! Dude, you are a 200% expert in fitness and proper food !
The 1st rule of the Ketogenic Diet is... You DO NOT talk about the Ketogenic Diet.
The 2nd rule of the Ketogenic Diet is... You DO NOT talk about the Ketogenic Diet.
It's the literal opposite of the vegan diet.
you are right, people are conditioned to think that you need carbs and sugar for your brain:) and you should not skip breakfast. LOL
I glad plenty of people do talk, that's how I got onto it 😉
Thank you so much for sharing your life..your story. I feel like you're a friend talking to me. I was feeling like I was failing this keto after 7 weeks at a stand still but your videos today have given me a new prospective. Wow! A couple hours now watching you
Thank you so very much.
Keto police HAHAHAHAH everyone in my freaking life.
They try to bring me down so much. Except, they don’t tell me carbs are bad. They try to make me give in. They avoid me when they see me happy with myself and reaching my goals.
They just sit on the couch eating shit and complaining and I’m actually doing something for me. They try to tear me down all the time.
Avoid such people. Even if they are old friends or family. Love them from distance. Don't sink into their swamp
Just do your thing. Let them eat shit and quietly go about your business working on yourself 😁
It's like anything in life that takes hard work, self discipline, and ultimately, let's face it, makes you better than they are - better than they choose to be.
Misery loves company.
I don't know about you but I love it when people are being "nice" and trying to get me to eat things I wouldn't put in my mouth unless I was dying and maybe not even then. And then saying things like "I just thought it would be a nice treat for you", " it's okay to let the diet go for today". All said in a saccharin tone. And I'm thinking if you wanted to do something nice for me you could have brought me bacon LOL. But these are all people I know would rather I either be miserable or fat
I was resolved a long time ago by not trying to "perfect" my flesh. As I grew older I became determined to live life in balance and in this video you acknowledged that very thing, BALANCE. SO if you "cheat" your not really, your just finding your balance, so therefore no CONDEMNATION. Great educational video's thanks for sharing.
24:50 'Sugar Alcohols' - as Soluble Fibre? Our friend? It ferments in our gut? IF it STAYS in the gut, could become a disaccharide. So as long as it doesn't stay in the gut it should be OK for those who get 'inflamed/bloated' easily? A little confused.
I'm always promoting your videos to those people close to me that want to go give the keto Diet ago. I've lost 13 kg with a bit to go. Say another 5 kg. I'm glad I watched this video. It was a great reminder and I loved the humour. Nice too see? Keep up the great work.
Well that's an interesting fact, always thought that an excess of protein even by a little amount would increase insulin. Thanks for this clarification!
Another great video and it is refreshing to see a person who is up to date on research and is not afraid to change practice based upon new evidence. If only health professionals would do this..
Is it okay to drink Keto coffee every morning? I have been doing it every morning for 2 months.
He mentioned it couple of times.. you should use it as a substitute meal, not a snack, because it has a lot of calories.. but you can drink it every day.
This was the best yet. i enjoy all of your informative videos but sometimes I get information from different sources and it gets confusing. I like the breakdown of why and when certain things which are the rage are appropriate
omega 3 supplements?
Excess protein does kick up my insulin - I can tell by how I feel with sudden intense cravings
Ignore this lot. Also you are wrong and its all in your head. Excess protein doesnt exist.
I only use mct oil when I need to add a little more fat quickly. But its day 5 and I fasted for 16 hours. Was really great. Feel much better on keto
I went and got weighed by the UK NHS health check nurse at our drs and I lost 5lb in a month. The nurse asked me how I'm doing it I said the keto diet and she said the pills or just eat the food I said just eat the keto food she asked me more about it so I told her briefly and I said if you go on you tube and watch some.videos from Thomas delaura dr berg and dr nick they have the beginners guide and she said she was gonna watch them at the weekend. So all these people saying it's bad for you and other stuff the NHS nurse has seen me lose 5lb in a month and now wants to do it. I have sea salt in all my food is the okay as I tried it in water and didn't like it.
Wow! I learned so much from this video. Just getting started on keto with my husband. Thanks so much for sharing all the science behind keto. It totally makes sense!
