Of course drinking that much coffee will have negative effects. Any good thing in excess has terrible health consequences. That goes for all healthy foods and drinks. 1-2 coffees per day shouldn't create any problem for most. Miserable quality coffee (Starbucks and others) are truly bad, not because of coffee itself. Black coffee is good, not all those addons. And because coffee is dehydrating, is very important to drink more water. But overdoing it, without enough water - of course will be bad, just like any good thing in excess.

I buy capsules of the theanine and pour half of it to my cafeinated drink (half a can of redbull since i dont like coffee). The powder mixes well on liquids and doesnt have a flavor. I did something similar for a while because I got the same effect as you. It felt simpler, awake but without the digestive issues that coffee can cause. Overall it felt easier on my body. However after about a year of that consistently (between 100 mg on slow days to 300 on days I needed the extra help, not always at once) I started to feel this really deep sense of innate fatigue. It felt like I was awake but that my body had nothing left. Like I had burnt through a candle and was running on fumes. It is very difficult to describe in words but a metaphor I find myself using again and again is ‘it felt like my nerves were fried’ because it’s the closest I can approximate to the feeling. It was not a restful fatigue.
After going no caffeine for a while I ended up switching back to coffee and this feeling has not returned no matter how much I drink. I think something about consuming it over a longer period of time (~15 minutes bs 10 seconds) and starting the digestive system makes the caffeine itself be gentler to my body. I also think that some other compounds in coffee may also be beneficial for this phenomenon. I much prefer coffee now even though it is less convenient.

I have a healthy dose of skepticism around excessive praise of caffeine. I'm always curious who's funding these studies.
Eliminating caffeine has resolved so many issues I didn't even know it could. Cutting it out of my life has balanced and improved my health and existence in so many ways, more than any other lifestyle intervention I've ever tried over decades of life. And I know I'm not alone based on the anecdotes of tons of other people.
    Cutting caffeine has:
    Healed my gut
    Healed mood issues
    Healed fatigue
Healed my sleep (now THIS heals the brain, nightly)
    Vastly improved cognition
    Vastly improved energy
We see studies that examine the effects of caffeine on very isolated dimensions of our biology, but I've yet to see a study that could assert that caffeine is good for the whole person and their being. I would encourage anyone who is currently dependent on caffeine to try cutting it for 6 months and see how it feels. You might be pleasantly surprised how good it feels and start laughing out loud when you see studies like these :)

Excess cortisol does not help fat loss around the waist, and in Chinese medicine it's not good for those yin deficient. I lived and worked with a guy that would always have a cup or two of coffee just before bed. I witnessed it many times. He said he couldn't sleep without it, and I don't remember him having coffee in the morning, I think he didn't cause he said it makes him tired. Which makes sense from what I've seen and heard (snoring) 😂

Withdrawal symptoms are relative to how much you take in consistently. Someone getting 50mg daily vs 400, the 400 is going to have a bad series of days when they quit cold turkey. That used to be me, and I still remember the first time I quit caffeine at age 14 25 years ago. I had no idea what was going on, I had a severe migraine. I grew up drinking Dr Pepper like it was water starting around age 10. I had 3-4 a day sometimes more. Now I get about 150 a day, but I'm very sensitive to it now.
I've quite caffeine for months before and I can tell you I never bounced back to "normal". If you drink too much for too long your adrenal-endocrin response will suffer, just like if you take copious amounts of test for too long you will shut it down to a lower level for good.

Bro, be careful with decaf, since it's slowly getting into the ultra processed foods category. There are some chemicals, which are used to make it decaf, so it became a no go for me, once I found this out.
My decision was simply to reduce the total coffee amount and switch back from decaf to normal.

I drink a cup of coffee Saturday mornings only as a weekend ritual, I get a decent amount of energy and anxiety. That night it’s hard to get to sleep and don’t sleep well. I wake up relatively exhausted to the point I feel the need for coffee, but I don’t. Throughout the day I have fatigue and no energy to do anything and take naps. The fatigue and brain fog carries into Monday, and like clock work Monday afternoon I get a headache( despite drinking a lot of water and electrolytes over the weekend). The headache usually goes away when I go to bed, but that’s after working out and drinking water at the gym. Tuesday morning I finally feel like I’m back to normal after getting good deep sleep again.

1:12 going from 10% fat oxidation boost to 29% is not "almost 3x the amount of fat oxidised"! Say your baseline fat oxidation that day is 100g... then having caffeine in the morning boosts that to 110g, and having coffee at 5pm boosts it to 129g. It's 3x the _extra amount_, not 3x the total amount (i.e. 300g). You have to look at the total amounts, not compare the percentages directly.
