Lego City Fire Station MOD - Double width set 60320

  • The new Lego City Fire Station looks great with the inverted slopes and the chunky Fire Truck. But the other side of the building is too thin and needs expanding.
    So I've taken the original Fire Station from set 60320 and double the width of the accommodation side, and added in a few beds where the hard working Fire Fighters can have a rest!
    It looks great, and the bonus is that it's now 32 studs wide, like most modular buildings.

    It's 10 minutes after uploading and I've just been told that what I thought was a map of Lego City, is actually meant to be a computer game in their break room!
    So moving it to the top floor might have been a mistake!!!!
    But ignoring the interior, I still think the exterior look of the MOD looks GREAT!

    This is what Lego should have built in the first place. A lot more of a realistic look to your moc.

      Thanks - The tower just looked too thin for the size of the garage next to it. I much prefer it now that it's double width.

    I remember building the 6389 Fire Control Centre back in the day (my friend's father worked as an international trucker (post) USSR)... and the sliding doors was a must for fire set.
    To this day I find it interesting LEGO was expecting futuristic Airport style fire engines to take over but to this day (as now seen in modern LEGO fire sets) the trucks are mainly classic cab-overs :)
    EDIT: I had to look it up why it is so and there are some articles about it. "1. Airport fire trucks are typically much better suited for off-road driving than municipal trucks. 2. Airport fire trucks must be able to carry a greater variety of agents than municipal trucks because of the nature of the fires they encounter. 3. The acceleration requirements are more aggressive for the airport fire trucks."

      6389 was a very cool set.
      It's very interesting about the differences between the type of fire truck. And I hadn't;t really thought about Lego's styling of them. Although, one of my favourite fire sets from the 90's was 6440: Jetport Fire Squad with real sirens!!! (I made a video about it 3 years ago! th-cam.com/video/OY9aR5cnazU/w-d-xo.html)

    This is great! If lego used your changes it would justify the price a bit more, although I do think the fire truck was more complete with the shooter.

      Buying 2 sets can often give VERY GOOD results, but I didn't;t want this one to be too big. (I've got two family house sets to make a MOD with)
      Planning, and buying all the parts for MODs takes quite a bit of time, and normally I don't also have the time to make a complete list of the parts I use.
      There's no easy way to get a list of all the parts unless I type it all in!!!!! - maybe on the smaller MODs I do I could start listing parts.

      If you have the original set, I would just look at the inventory on BrickLink and work out which ones you need to buy more of.

      @MinifigJez  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey there Chicken Nuggets.
      I've just tried to put the Speed Champions Lotus Evija (set 76907) in the garage, and the wheel arches make it too wide.
      The old 6-stud wide Speed Champions sets will fit in there easily (so all the sets from 2015 to 2019) but the sets from 2020 onwards won't.
      The garage is 8 studs wide, and I think all the 8-wide SC sets since 2020 also have wheel arches that make them wider than that.
      I hope that helps.

      @@chickennuggets5225 the roller doors are really cool, but they've only ever made them 8-studs wide, and because they run up and down inside a groove in the side bricks, I can't think of a way that you could join two sets together to make the roller door wider.
      It could work as a display piece, with an 8-stud wide SC car half way in/out of the roller door, so that the front wheel arches are outside the building and the back wheel arches are inside the building?
      Have fun modding!

    Personally I think the LEGO city sets have gone downhill over the past few years. If you look at the size of the old sets compared to the new ones is shameful

    • @MinifigJez
      @MinifigJez  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 2023 sets are looking pretty good value for money, especially all the £9/$10 sets.

    • @Winchester1979
      @Winchester1979 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When it comes to fire- and police sets, I disagree completely. What happened is that Lego swapped from doing the fire station or police station as the biggest and most expensive set of the wave, and instead started making an actual building on fire or a bank robbery to respond to as the "big set", so that each fire vehicle came with the right size fire for it to put out, instead of all fire vehicles coming with only a tiny fire because the fire station ate all the budget. Similarly, the camping sets have grown steadily more advanced and nicer with each year, and I've been loving the 4x4s and pickup trucks for years, with this year's K9 unit being a fantastic set.
      On the other hand, their big rig trucks have gotten ridiculously toyish compared to some of the builds from the late 00s. They made some really really nice ones in 2009 that I just finished building digitally, and there's been occasional fantastic trucks since, but for example the gaming road show truck? Yeah, that's just sad.

    • @RealBanana
      @RealBanana ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Winchester1979 ok yeah, I like the variety of vehicles they have now, but the size of the police and fire stations are just sad now, along with the semi trucks as you said. Then again, I’m probably biased because I grew up looking at the 2010’s sets in the back of instruction booklets and commercials

    • @Winchester1979
      @Winchester1979 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RealBanana I used to look at the new ones and think they were small... and then I discovered that for basically the same cost as one of the old big sets, you could buy two of these smaller ones and combine them, and you'd have one that was even bigger than the old sets... if you decided you really needed to. The 2022 station is slightly more satisfying to do that with because it has an actual fire engine, as opposed to the brush truck that was in the 2019 one. It used to be much harder to do that, not to mention dreadfully expensive.
