    You need to put a permanent marker into the manifold and mark the carburetor to dremmel it a smooth slope. I get more air, moved up a jet, and man, I can feel the power difference! 😃

    I bought an aftermarket manifold from Amazon. It looked just like most of the others. out there.....BUT I could not get the carb o-ring to center on the manifold with the carb clocked level. To get the o-ring in center I had to have the carb tilted a bit. I demand perfection, so I built a 1/4 " spacer plate that allowed the O-ring to seal on it. Then I used a gasket to seal the plate to the manifold. So far it has worked great. I would recommend buying your manifold from a reputable source like OMB or GPS Ect.

    So the choke lever we only put it up to start a cold engine then put it back down when it’s warmed up?

  • @Buses2Bikes
    @Buses2Bikes ปีที่แล้ว

    I got one of these Chikuni carbs for my mini bike and I was watching Bahnzai's video on them and he said that the "choke" lever DOWN meant the choke was on and the and the lever UP meant it was off. Here in your video it's stated as the opposite way. I shall have to test and report back. In my mind your method sounds correct because on cars with manual chokes, we would lock the flapper closed when starting on cold mornings to keep out the cold air. This, by default, fed more fuel than air in to the engine for a better chance of the engine firing up sooner. Cold cranking an engine for 30 or 40 seconds or more was a sure fire way of wearing out all the metal-to-metal surfaces inside the engine prematurely.

    Hi there, I would like to ask many questions, I am new to building 4-stroke OHVs for my motorized bicycle. What is that big tube arc coming out from your cylinder head? I thought for open cylinder heads, you just use a billet air filter? I have a 4-stroke 212cc OHV but its not a predator, and my open cylinder head does not have a metal mouth sticking out like the predator 212cc where one can put tighteners to help hold the tube in place, instead it just has a hole with like interlocking teeths inside the hole and i just have to stick in a breather tube and the teeths tight grip seems to help hold it in place. I am unsure if sticking in a breather tube with a billet air filter on the other end is good enough to stay intact because i plan to use the engine for a motorized bicycle and its going to rock a lot. I also would like to ask about the governor, after putting the mikuni carb you seem to leave the governor alone entirely. For my 212cc ohv stock engine, the throttling was attached to the governor connected by springs and that they are supposed to work together?. Can i leave the governor out entirely after buying a mikuni carb? I am new to engines and unsure how a governor thoroughly works inside the engine, but as far as I know, it controls the oil being spewed out in the engine at different rpms, and that it regulates rpms and can make the engine automatically shut off if not properly governored. I am afraid to run into issues of my engine automatically shutting off or not being able to reach higher rpms, if i do not connect my carb to my governor because they seem said to work together in my stock model. or am i missing something? Can i just buy a mikuni carb and cable it to my hand throttle and leave the governor untouched or unconnected? pls help thanks.

    I have a 26mm carburetor I got from Amazon. I have a 125 main jet and a L38 idle jet in the carb. It's hard to start when the engine is cold. Crank pulls easily, valves are 18lbs and lashed at .003 and sparkplug gaped at 31. It seems that it doesn't hold an idle from the previous day. I have to increase the idle to get it started and then turn it down to 1200 rpm when it warms up. What is it that I'm doing wrong. Your input would be greatly appreciated.

    • @TheGrayGoatGarage
      @TheGrayGoatGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the carb is having the engine running very rich, this will cool the head and foul the spark plug. I would guess if you pulled the spark plug the electrode will be black and sooty. Raise the e clip on the needle all the way to the top and test from there

    What about the governor? Do I keep it in the engine?
    Performance carb can be kept at a minimum RPM?

    • @TheGrayGoatGarage
      @TheGrayGoatGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You cannot use a governor and a slide carb unless you are very creative! A Mikuni 22 is a performance carb that should be bolted to a performance engine. The carb wants to see more compression and a bigger cam to operate properly. The additional rpm capabilities of these carbs will stress the connecting rod and flywheel beyond their limits with potential failure that can hurt you. I don’t recommend this type of carb for an otherwise stick engine. Performance is built from the inside out, not outside in!

    • @TheGrayGoatGarage
      @TheGrayGoatGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wouldn't even attempt that. You are wanting to bolt a performance carb to a stock engine. Performance is built from the inside out, not outside in.
      The stock rod and flywheel are not designed for higher than governed rpms and will fail.
      The stock cam does not have enough lift or duration for a larger carb.
      I am a minibike guy and I will not ride a minibike with an ungoverned engine unless I know there are billet parts installed

      @@TheGrayGoatGarage Agree but the reality is that guys are watching videos that prove of the gains from a slide carb over the stock carb, stock cam or not. So it's expected that in many cases guys are going to put a slide carb on a stock engine. They're going to get a $40 Chikuni carb kit before getting $120 plus worth of rod and flywheel no matter what we tell them.
