Ubisoft games are worth $20 at most. They will shovel DLCs/add-ons which should have been part of the main game to push that total cost close to $60 anyways. Best option is wait for it to come to PC Game Pass.
The game just comes across as so…meh…nothing crazy cool, but also nothing absolutely terrible. The graphics seem fine, but not refined. The dialogue/writing seems fine but not sophisticated. The combat definitely seems meh, especially with ai that are dumb as rocks lol. The open exploration seems like a gimmick seeing as the planets you can explore are mostly empty. Well that's the thing, isn't it? Ubisoft has been in a long process of homogenizing all their titles into an amorphous mass that you can generalize it as the "Ubisoft formula". Likewise I can't say I'd want to spend money on a game that is largely just good enough with it's systems but doesn't want to commit to a single style that would make it or even it's main character stand out. Honestly I'd just tell people if they wanted to play a Star Wars action game, pick up Force Unleashed. The game wanted to make you feel like a powerful force wielder, and succeeded at that in spades with mechanics that reinforce that concept. Kay Vess could be a trigger happy gunslinger, she could be a stealthy smuggler, she could be a lot of things...but she's not going to be particularly memorable as anything because Ubisoft decided she needed to be all of them at once.
I'm probably going to go the 1 month sub route since I just really enjoy exploring Star Wars worlds, but that's all totally fair criticism of the whole Ubisoft direction. I do still enjoy their games for a limited time each, homogeneous though they are, but I don't love the direction. My one partial quibble is about your counter suggestion with doing the force well (especially a godly rare power level even among the already powerful basic Jedi). I don't think you're really saying it's ideal 'because' it's about the force... and I'd probably say Jedi Survivor since it fit my personal gaming taste SO well, sadly there haven't been many strong Star Wars game successes outside of Jedi to pull from, and that in itself is a huge problem to me. It's a much bigger setting, with the vast majority of people and potential stories (esp the ones I'd be most interested in) aren't some massive fulcrum of galactic fate that can throw ships around. I'd actually make the claim that sticking to a gun-slinger (however imperfectly they did it) in this context sort-of 'is' committing at least some and at least for me, personally, that gives it a memorable aspect itself. Too much of Star Wars content across the board isn't willing to show anything outside a few core characters or elites even among Jedi. Honestly, Ubisoft just as likely stumbled into that since guns and moderate stealth are more their 'formula' comfort zone, but from what's available in Star Wars it seems to be something different so I kindof hope it does alright so it's not inevitably taken as justification to stick to that sweet candy power fantasy.
The dissonance between how casually the comments dismiss e game and how much good the video has to say about it is a bit baffling Edit: okay so it seems a bunch of people missed my point. There are three questions that determine if a game is "good" 1) Is the gameplay fun? 2) Is it intellectually/emotionally stimulating? 3) Is there enough content in the game to justify it's pricetag?

@@EckhartsLadder those games were already criticised for a lack of freedom, but the choice in the paths you could take was still the entire premise of those games imo.
I think the comparison isn't really fair. The Deus Ex reboot games have deep stealth mechanics, which Outlaws does not. And the Deus Ex games had very refined worldbuilding, state-of-the-art graphics, and well-crafted details (despite Mankind Divided being rushed out the door!). I think we can already conclude Outlaws' graphics are outdated, and I doubt it can meet the other two points. The comparison with Deus Ex sets expectations way too high
I like how you start this video by listing some flaws and negatives but then go on to say that you found the game to be fun and compelling and that you wanted to play more. No thanks Eck. EAFront just felt like Battlefield with a Star Wars skin to me and Outlaws is looking to be Assassins Creed with a Star Wars skin. Even Fallen Order hasn't lived up to my expectations all that much and don't get me started on the dumbed down Star Wars Squadrons. There hasn't been a single Star Wars game since Lucasarts closed that has made me go "wow, I really wanna buy that".
What? What do you think battlefront is? No seriously. The original battlefront started as a MOD for battlefield. The original battlefront games were just 3rd person battlefield. The way bases, spawning, and vechicles worked was the exact same. At least EA tried to change it up and make it not like battlefield, with the hero system and calling vehicles in from off map. But yea, this comment reeks of “I don’t know what I’m talking about and just need more ammunition for my hate” like okay outlaws doesn’t seem like a very good game but, your take on battlefront is so low IQ it’s not even funny it’s pathetic. Like wow, the games that were a rip off of battlefield, that started as a mod for battlefield, plays similarly to battlefield? Wow, who would have thought?
@@stuglife5514 I'm well aware, but maybe I should have specified MODERN Battlefield. EAFront is just a reskin of MODERN Battlefield with a Star Wars skin. I agree, every modern Star War game has been disappointing. I was expecting something much closer to the 2000’s Battlefront when I bought the new version. I even found Fallen Order and Squadrons frustrating and disappointing. Outlaws looks a bit better but I’m waiting for the inevitable price drop in a year.
@@Jon0387 I agree and yeah I'll see how Outlaws looks at release. I just get a feeling I won't like it, because honestly I haven't liked an Assassins Creed game since the 2nd one. So I don't know how I'll feel about Outlaws. The stealth aspect already looks pretty pitiful. Space battles look sort of fun, but also shallow. It's tilted as an open world game, but like most other Ubisoft titles, it will probably be closer to "linear open world". Lack of character customization also kills it for me. I'd kill for another Star Wars RPG on the scale of KOTOR. Baldurs Gate 3 has proven that the traditional RPG genre isn't dead and can be very successful when done right, so why can't we just have something like that? I'd actually pay attention and maybe even preorder a Star Wars RPG.
What's all this "go in guns blazing" talk? There is a ridiculous amount of forced stealth that insta-fails the mission if you're detected. Comparing this to Deus Ex is an insult to Deus Ex.
I played it on PC for about 3 hours last night and I thought it was fun so far. I didn't have any performance issues (RTX 4090 laptop on an ultrawide external monitor). I was using mostly ultra graphics settings with Ray Tracing Reconstruction and Frame Generation. Honestly it looked better than any video i have seen on it. Mouse sensitivity adjustment sliders need some work. 1 was a slow but 2 was like 3 times too fast for my normal DPI settings. The default key binds are pretty bad, i had to change a ton of them. The gameplay is pretty similar to Fallen Order so far. Just with blasters instead of sabers. The platforming is very similar. I'm not exactly excited about helping and building rep with any of the 3 fractions (Pikes, Crimson Dawn, or the Hutts) so far I've gone Crimson Dawn because I hate the Pikes more and the Hutts haven't come into play yet.
It's more like an evolving open world Splinter Cell. On toshara, having to go back into Pyke territory after sneaking in once, i found a new way in that was blocked off before. Don't know how often that happens...
"Don't preorder this game". Don't worry, Cyberpunk 2077 lesson learned the hard way on PS4 Pro. 😝 The Deus Ex comparison is surprising and unique TBH. In a game like this I tend to build go full stealth/hacker and I'm not sure that's really possible here? Also, the footage shows rather worrying stutter and in your-face-texture loading. Ouch. Starfield as a reference for space section isn't exactly good news. 😕
Not an apt comparison, by any means. Deus Ex is an immersive sim. This is an Ubisoft game. Many reviews can attest to that and explain in case you haven't played one in the last fifteen years.
Do you feel that the main character depth was a good reason to not have a character creation section, or would it have been better to have the character creator for RP purposes?
I haven't played the game yet, but one thing that kind of irks me is that, with all the cool vehicle designs in Star Wars, some art director have gone to great lengths to design the most bland, boring-looking ship and speeder bike. The ship is basically a cereal box tipped over and the speeder looks like a boxy motorcycle with the weels pulled off. Now, the look of the ship and bike are purely cosmetic and what really matters are how they handle and feel, but still... All SW RPGs and action games I can think of have had distinct, cool ships. Ebon Hawk, The Stinger Mantis, The Outrider, Rouge Shadow, Moldy Crow. But this is just ... Meh. Now, I'm almost surely will buy the game and hopefully enjoy it anyway, but it'd be much more enjoyable to have a cool ship to fly around in.
I think I'm actually going to give this a shot. Might wait for black Friday, I've got plenty on my plate already (thanks Steam summer sale) but this does actually look fun
I saw about 15 minutes of gameplay a while back and I felt I've already played through the entirety of this game. This is all so extremely generic. Would I hate it? Probably not, but this is definitely the kind of game I can play in 5 years when it pops up in sales somewhere and I have nothing else to do at that time.
Thanks for the review, it sounds like a solid fun game, a proper 7 or 8/10 depending on if you’re a Star Wars fan. Will definitely get it when it’s cheaper (or comes to Xbox game pass)
This game was a huge, missed opportunity, an open-world SW game, with your own created character and path, man it would be great, but nope, we get another boring disappointing story with another generic, and quite frankly, boring protagonist.
Having a custom character is very difficult in a universe very focused on canon and continuity. Every time they've done it they have eventually had to come out and say which is the official version of the character. They did this in both kotors and jedi academy, and if you were around at the time people were really upset by that and felt it invalidates their playthroughs. They probably considered having a custom character but wanted to avoid that issue.
The Starfield comparisons are sort of killing this for me because Starfield was such a disappointment, and with that being said I'd still rather play Bethesda in space than Ubisoft in space. My next game will probably end up being Jedi Survivor though.

Based on what I’ve seen from this game it kind of seems like they took inspiration from the cancelled Star Wars 1313, to me personally it kind of looks like they’re paying homage to 1313. I also think that why people are so upset and angry about this game, and I understand, we’ve gone from using laser swords, and all these cool force powers to using a blaster with scoundrels and gun slingers, but to me again it feels like they’re paying homage to Star Wars 1313, and as someone who was very excited about 1313 that really speaks volumes to me, but that’s just my opinion.
Labor day is around the corner hell even Christmas. Im sure itll be in discount by then. Same as with all their games. Is just not worth buying a $70 game and still have content missing
So, based off what you said, way better than I feared, about equal to what I hoped. (While not my dream Star Wars game, it’s good enough for me to be giddy with excitement. And yes I’m a fan of the “Ubisoft formula” I’m braced for watch dogs like clunky gun play, of which I don’t really mind) I’m already subscribed to Ubisoft plus. For their Anno games, heroes of might & magic, settlers, the good AC games, etc (of which I plan to buy sometime in the future, but Ubisoft+ works for my budget in the meantime)
Remember when star wars games were good in the n64, GameCube, and wii eras. We had games like old knights of the republic, classic battlefronts, lego star wars, republic commando, rouge squadron, bounty hunter, jedi knight academy games, or even the force unleashed games. Only like 2 new star wars games are good and they are the jedi fallen order and survivor games. The most exciting video games right now is the mvc collection, wolverine game, new zelda, and of course Metroid prime 4. Instead of playing star wars outlaws just playing any of the older games i mentioned or something like mario or Zelda.
This is essentially a stealth game. Which is good because I love stealth games. Unfortunately, the stealth game mechanics of this game really suck. Often you will fail for no discernable reason, and sometimes you will succeed when you should not. Creating a stealth game with janky stealth is poor game design.
As much as I respect this channel, it feels like you are trying to forcefully search for something good in this game. It might not be horrible or a true disaster, but it's not worth the money they are asking and trying to trick people into subscribing so that it's either pay way too much money or never really own the game, is just Ubisofts worst business scheme right now. What I've seen in this video ranges from sometimes really nice graphics to very outdated graphics and a character that just sadly has been made less attractive than what the model actually looked like. The thing that's probably going to hit the hardest is the fact, that this repetetive gameplay is going on for a long time and just isn't anything new or special. Really upgrading things, can't really carry the rest of the gameplay. I was actually amazed how many different types of bad graphics were presented in this gameplay footage. Everything from the game looking like it's from 2010ish to lighting problems making it look oversaturated or just dull. As a community, if we actually support this, then we are the ones to blame if devs keep trying to deliver less and ask too much.
My biggest problem is the graphics and the lack of polishing on many things. You can see the graphic glitches and clipping, as well as the lack of rendering terrain and objects when they can be seen. I do see some of the gameplay issues and bugs as an issue and some of the animations I feel like most can live with but spending $70 for the quality is a big turn-off. If It was around $50 I'd pick it up but until they get some patches out and fix some of the graphic issues I'll wait till a sale for it. It doesn't have to be perfect, but I understand things are going to clip and do their thing regardless but don't expect everyone to pay that price if you put out a buggy game. Hopefully, it gets patched and people can enjoy the game without the bugs and glitches but it is Ubisoft so who knows what will happen.

It's a great game if you love the star wars universe. The worlds looks beautiful and feel populated and lived in. The ship combat is fun and the difference in weapon upgrades keep combat interesting (same as the baster upgrades) Only having a blaster as your primary is done well enough and suites the character. Story is more interesting than the new movies. Go into it with an open mind and don't expect a masterpiece, the team behind this game love starwars and it shows.

still way to early for me to know if I want to play this, the main thing that's going to make or break it for me is combat depth, upgrades and skill trees, if this game has a way to dual wield or spec your character towards being a gunslinger I may be interested, the space battles look fun but for me it comes down to the viable combat archetypes you can create and how interesting they are to play. Choosing a combat style is a big RPG factor. Jedi Survivor did it well enough.

Tbf the environments look as good as the character faces look bad, now that I see more of them. Dont know why Ubisoft didn’t show more of them before
Well that's the thing, isn't it?
Well said
I'm probably going to go the 1 month sub route since I just really enjoy exploring Star Wars worlds, but that's all totally fair criticism of the whole Ubisoft direction.

All I can think about is how the Ubisoft logo looks from the side...
It's more like an evolving open world Splinter Cell.
On toshara, having to go back into Pyke territory after sneaking in once, i found a new way in that was blocked off before. Don't know how often that happens...

The Deus Ex comparison is surprising and unique TBH.

Meh.

For their Anno games, heroes of might & magic, settlers, the good AC games, etc (of which I plan to buy sometime in the future, but Ubisoft+ works for my budget in the meantime)
Piracy is always an option.
This game won't be pirated for a long time. Ubisoft makes their games really hard to crack.
This would be an instant buy if we played as the commando droid instead of him being a sidekick NPC
Agreed
Or a Mandolorian etc
Hopefully, it gets patched and people can enjoy the game without the bugs and glitches but it is Ubisoft so who knows what will happen.
oh no its so mid
A pet that solves "problems", an UI that shows me all the time what buttons to press, obvious climbing paths, copy paste high grass for hiding, one button take downs...this game is made for babies!
I knew this game would suck when it was announced to be made by Ubisoft
It's a great game if you love the star wars universe. The worlds looks beautiful and feel populated and lived in. The ship combat is fun and the difference in weapon upgrades keep combat interesting (same as the baster upgrades) Only having a blaster as your primary is done well enough and suites the character. Story is more interesting than the new movies. Go into it with an open mind and don't expect a masterpiece, the team behind this game love starwars and it shows.
Short Answer: No.. no it is not
Did you watch the video at all to you its a no but to eck he has some positives and negatives to say and sounds like hes curious and interested so far
@@Sparksparky1 the game looks wank, I'll stick to the early to mid 2000s star wars games.
@@1eyepaulit looks like wank well somebody hasn't played literally any jrpg from the early 2000s looking at you xenosaga episode 2 and verious parts if 3 outlaws looks like I game made for the ps3 era/Xbox 360 then a game made for the ps5 also theirs alot of games out their that have shitty graphics but still considered amazing by alot of people again the xenosaga trilogy I also thought we stopped caring about graphics ages ago
@@Sparksparky1 punctuation please.
@@doublejumpvideogames....sure whatever atleast it's readable
I’ll simplify it for those who haven’t played it yet. It is essentially Far Cry in space. Same mechanics, same type of open world and map. If you like the Far Cry series, you’ll like this.
No it’s not
Looking forward to playing it once it's on sale for like $12.
I will not be playing this game
still way to early for me to know if I want to play this, the main thing that's going to make or break it for me is combat depth, upgrades and skill trees, if this game has a way to dual wield or spec your character towards being a gunslinger I may be interested, the space battles look fun but for me it comes down to the viable combat archetypes you can create and how interesting they are to play. Choosing a combat style is a big RPG factor. Jedi Survivor did it well enough.
Ah yes more endless hate. Truly a passionate fandom that "just wants things to get better". Good review Eck. I don't know how you deal with the constant negativity though.
Because most sw is bad and people don't like it. Angers precedes apathy.
People want to hate on Ubisoft so bad they will ignore the good and only focus on the bad in any Ubisoft game
So you're surprised Star wars in general has lost peoples good faith? People can be fooled a lot of times but everyone even the dumbest are bound to one day say no more.
The last Jedi didn't break everyone but broke a lot of fans.
Solo didn't break everyone but broke some more.
The book of boba Fett broke some more.
The mandalorian S3 broke some more.
The acolyte broke a lot more.
Everyone is suspicious of new products, that's it.
People have interest but there's no good Faith, but no worry if the product's good then people will buy it and like it, remember Jedi fallen order? absolutely NO ONE had faith the game was going to be good.
But it was good and people turned around.
A lot of it is overhated and the reason why apathy is just brain damage to me.
@@achaudhari101 Apathy is "brain damage" ? That's literally nonsensical....
My personal gauge is if I exclaim “ugh” more than once while playing then game isn’t for me. This was it for me
