From what I'm hearing from most reviewers I can genuinely trust is that this game would be a solid $30- $40 game. But the ubisoft prices are just absurd for it's actual value.
Luckily for us because of how they positioned it, it'll probably be less than that in no time. I think they'll see more of a loss now than if they just compromised on the price and marketed it as a smaller game.

Probably picking this up in a couple years once it drops below the $10 mark. Likely to get some decent entertainment out of it for that price and most of the bugs will be addressed by then. Appreciate the review sir.

This one is meant to be smaller, at least. 100% estimated at only 30 hours. The base game clocks in at about 15. It's tiny for an Ubisoft Open World game.
Basically the only reviewer I listen to atm, and have for quite a while. You just come off very fair and like you just love videogames of any kind as long as they do interesting and fun stuff (also helps that I actually do know what you enjoy which helps me further with deciding if it might be for me). Love how you usually judge the games on what they actually do and contain without all the "outrage" and overhype (or even predetermined hate) that is so common these days. Like everything either has to be the best thing ever or the worst and that just is not the case really. Most games these days are actually just pretty good imo. Of course the 100% thing gives you quite a lot of credibility as well. No particular reason why I wrote this here as I have no interest in this particular game, but I just love these reviews. Just makes everything sound interesting and quite fun. Quite lovely this day and age. Keep it up!!! :)

Thanks for the review video... Honestly, I like most of the exploration and side quest content... It might be a mixed bag for people who are not into jumping puzzles, exploring to find back entrances, and puzzling out certain mission/quest areas... I didn't mind most of it, but some were harder to figure out then others... The combat system is rather basic for the most part, and while it does progress a bit in the beginning, it will eventually feel a bit stale for some folks... While the speeder took some getting used to, I had to turn off the Mouse Turning feature on PC, as it made using the speeder much harder in my opinion... Opting to go with just keyboard movement controls, and using the mouse to look around instead, made using the speeder much easier... I also, like Mortismal, hate Simon Says styled puzzles, so I turned that function off for Slicing... It may seem a bit cheaty to do that, but I'd rather not be annoyed by puzzle systems I don't like... The main story, as much as I've completed so far, feels rather basic, but honestly, I think it is not where the developers wanted players to focus their game play in the first place... Touted as an Open World game, that is where they focused much of their attention... The side stories with the Syndicates are not mind blowing, but I feal more attention was placed on these bits of side content then the main story... In the end, this is not a Story Rich RPG, although it does have story stuff... It feels like a cross between an Action-Adventure game, a planet side exploration game, along with some RPG elements thrown in... The progression system is unique and interesting, along with some basic gear systems thrown in to round it out... All in all, you could technically blow through this game's main story without heavy involvement in all the side content... But in my opinion, you would be losing out on the meat and potatoes of the game if that is all you care about... Visually, I think the game looks good overall... I don't care as much about visuals if the game play is fun... The only qualm I really have with the visuals is Kay's hair and her face sometimes... It looks alright in some scenes, and not as good in others... I think that is because they are not using dynamic animated cut scenes, but pre-made ones... The story scenes look far better most of the time when comparing types of scenes... If I had one wish for this game, that would be the ability to modify Kay's face and hair... Since that is not an option via game mechanics, I'm holding out hope for the modding community to take on that feat... There are a few mods for the game already, when it comes to visuals, but most are basic environmental visual alterations like lighting and so on, for the moment... It's early days, so I look forward to seeing where it goes.... I agree 100% with Mortismal when it comes to game pricing... Ubisoft+ subscription is the cheapest option at the moment, which is the route I chose to go with... The basic package price is normal for games these days, even if it is missing some very minor things in comparison to the more expensive packages... There is no boxed game to purchase, so the others are just super expensive digital upgrades... Which is probably meant to drive players towards Subbing in the first place... As far as purchasing the game, if by the end I enjoyed everything, I will most likely buy the game on another platform when it goes on sale... I personally believe the non-Basic prices are way too high, especially since there is no physical version of the game, such as a collector's edition that would make such a high purchase more worthwhile... As to bugs, I've only ran into a couple, most of which were not game breaking, and did not ruin my fun at all... The most active bug I've witnessed is the Ubisoft Cloud Save Sync not working sometimes when entering or exiting the game... Which doesn't bother me since I have the saves locally anyhow... Which reminds me, the fact I cannot make manual saves when in the middle of hostile territory, puzzle areas, and in the middle of combat, is ridiculous to me... Especially for a PC game... It feels like an archaic console system function being forced onto players... If I have to quit in the middle of something when in those sorts of situations, all I have to rely on is auto-saves and/or save points (which I loathe entirely) ... When I see that in games on a PC, it just makes me think the developers are either lazy, or this is just a poorly ported console game being cheaply brought over onto PC, rather than a game intended for PC play all along... Tis annoying... Livable... But annoying all the same...
I am always glad when there is a game I am uncertain about got a review by you. You really dig into the games you make videos about and explain what works and dont work about them!
25:37 Another deal breaker is all those infiltration phases. There are far too many of them. And unfortunately, the feeling of repetition is quickly noticeable. So if combat and story are important to you, and if you don't like "ubisoft-style infiltration", you'd better skip it.
I am 12 hours in an I absolutely love exploring the world and soak in the atmosphere as a 40 year old lifelong Star Wars Fan and I have to admit that it really does feel like the Star Wars I love. I can only recommend to play this on hard. It feels like the whole combat and stealth system was build around it. Otherwise it's completely braindead because you have way to much Health and enemies are pushing which seems so stupid on normal but on hard it keeps you on your toes and forces you to use all your different equipments and abilities in your toolkit and it feels really well rounded up. On normal it feels broken tbh. On Series X I play start 28/7 and I hat one crash and one time I feel trout a staircase after meeting an enemy. The way how organic updating your abilities, equipment with the little stories they tell and the exploring the world feels is absolutely amazing and it refreshes the Uni formal substantial. I think it´s the best approach they ever did and hope many of these ideas will carry over to Far Cry and Assassin's Creed. I like that the story is kind of grounded and not liver the top and that it is more about letting you expense the world out of the eyes of a wannabe Scoundrel who becomes more and more experienced.
Thank you. I think I'm going to watch many more of your reviews. This one appears quite earnest, and you seem to take great care of how you frame your opinions. I appreciate your effort. Thanks again.
Mortismal once again giving one of the only fair reviews, by and for people who actually want to *enjoy* games not just complain on the Internet. Along with Gameranx and Th3Birdman.
What is fair is subjective. I've watched reviews from very respected and independent reviewers who rarely get keys from publishers due to their honest and candid reviews, and those guys hated the game and provided clear reasoning and footage demonstrating each point they made. If anything, based on several reviews I've seen, this one is bordering on being too generous. I guess you can find out by playing it yourself. Personally I trust those other guys more from experience.
Why don't they just take even more inspiration from Red Dead Redemption 2? Like going back to your horse to pick up a long gun. I think they should allow the speeder to store all the bigger weapons you can pick up, as well as ammunition. So, if you wanted to, you could go back to your speeder to reload.
That mechanic in red dead is very annoying and unnecessary I want to play a video game not a boring life sim rockstar has become very average and less fun and more give money for our stupid shark cards
@@WeKNOWTHETRUTHITSUNDISTPUTED From that to the horrible looting/shopping mechanic and the survival aspects, I think Rockstar's obsession with "realism" downgraded the game's fun from what it could have been.

His review is genuinely full of skill issues as well. Complaining about the lockpicking, really? Says its annoying and ruins the pace but it literally takes 5 seconds. If you look at his footage he’s just awful.
He is just using the faction system to the fullest extent. Ubisoft already has a terrible reputation, so he is using that as a baseline to judge this game since Ubi can never make a good game, only cash grabs.

All I know is I’m absolutely hooked. I’m loving it. There’s a few issues, but which game doesn’t have a few issues? The story is great, the faction system is dynamic and unpredictable and cool. Gameplay in general is fun too. I’m also liking Sabacc.
Thanks for the solid review. Based on others I have seen I was surprised you liked this as much as you did. One thing that I am curious about. Some spoke of automatic failures upon detection in some stealth missions. You didn't mention this in the stealth section of the review. Is this auto fail very rare or did you just never fail in one of those scenarios? EDIT - Based on a response comment, the "getting thrown out" scenario is the result of the auto-fail, so I didn't realize you had already addressed the issue.
I've experienced one autofail in the tutorial, and then one in the first town/planet. It seems like the "autofail" are when you are stealthing in the faction areas inside towns - you simply get kicked out. As he said, out in the world it seems more often they just try to kill you. In that situation, unless you want to completely destroy whatever reputation you have with that group you kind of have to fail - just run, or restart.
Thanks for the great review, and for confirming what I was hearing. Ubisoft connect is a really hard ask for me, a lackluster story means I will likely skip this unless it goes on a really deep sale.
Take a break after this one. You deserve it. Also.. Digital release, no media to make and distribute Using their own launcher exclusively, no one to pay to distribute Still 70$ for not even the full game.
I just subbed to Ubi+ for a month. I tried a bit of Anno 1800, beat AC: Mirage & I'll get through Outlaws by the end of the month too. Asking for US$70 is too much for most games.
Had the most fun in a star wars game in a while thanks to Outlaws, it was fun playing a jedi/sith in Jedi and Force Unleashed, but we never have a true open star wars game (not including the mmo) that focuses on blasters, it’s quite refreshing actually. And the story somehow ended up in my top 5 in games and that says something. It’s so rewarding without there being a progression system and I cant wait to see what they do with the expansions when they release.
I was gonna say you're nitpicking but wow, yeah that's bad lol. I do think this game is getting way more hate than it should but those bugs do not help it at all...
The biggest disappointment to me is the lack of a real melee combat system. I mean, even if you take out the Jedi, Star Wars has a lot of melee combat with things like vibro blades and what not. Especially given that Ubisoft has some games with very cinematic melee combat, the lack of melee is really disappointing to me and honestly feels a bit dated. In the wake of games like Cyberpunk (which has a cinematic fusing of melee and ranged combat like tossing an enemy in the air and shooting them on the way down), you'd at least expect some sort of a viable melee system. Hell, Starfield even has melee (though sometimes I wish it didn't).
Just followed your account a day ago, the same time this game came out and you already finished at 100% and did a review?? Amazing! And thanks for the tips. Will def wait for sales

I stared yesterday- standard edition and went for PS5 since its mostly story and wanted to see it on the TV and have to say I like it waaaay better than what I have expected - Graphics look nice even if not on the RTX 4090😅, the Story was fun so far, it has action it has stealth and I honestly felt there went quite a lot of love into detailing the key areas for the fact that its an open world game… so, even if I was veeery skeptical - I think they did very well so far 😋 lets see how I feel after completing
As always a calm and informative review. It says so much more about the game than 90% of the reviews out there that just say that the game is bad and "ubisoft bad" bla bla. Thanks mort, you are really my go-to review channel and i can always count on your opinon.
I've seen mostly relentlessly negative stuff about this game, but a lot of it felt like the negativity was pretty subjective. Whenever I consider making game or product purchases anymore I expressly look for both positive and negative reviews, as I feel that by gathering information both positive and negative about a product I can get a more complete idea of what it actually is. I really appreciated your review and I feel like you were very fair, evaluating both positive and negative aspects of the game. I probably won't buy it myself, particularly because AAA games just haven't been living up to their hype for quite a while for me(and combat and story are 2 of the biggest aspects of a game to me and your review tells me those are lacking in this), but I will keep your channel in mind for looking at evaluations of future games.
Damn bro, mad props for having the patience to do this. I was really disappointed just trying to finish it and get my money's worth, nevermind 100% it.
Thank you for giving an honest review. I have been a gamer for over thirty years and am done with the children review bombing games unfairly, thank you again.
I’ve just finished this entire video and having beaten the game the other night, I found it interesting he says he didn’t find the story to be one of its strong suits. For me it was the world and main story that were the only captivating things about the game, beginning with the hilarious Anq and everything that transpires towards the end of the game. It really comes together nicely and while you can reduce it to ‘another heist movie’ i don’t think we’ve ever seen one executed so well within the star wars mythos, and especially with the narrative underpinnings connecting nd5 to kay. It was good stuff. That said i only played the main story and really didn’t engage with the side content because i could tell it was a slog, so i can understand if mort was just exhausted with it by that point
@@alextownley9388yes 100% agreed. Trying it via Ubisoft+ and it’s great. People are sceptical of Ubisoft’s reputation and overused formula, but it’s a fun game.
That’s surprising. You often hear people saying the ending sucks while the rest of the movie or show is good. With people either saying it’s the journey that matters or that the ending ruined the whole thing or both. You don’t often see people pulling off a successful ending when all the buildup sucked. That and it often would make the ending less satisfying because it provides payoff for something that wasn’t earned. Weird.
I was really bummed when I learned there wasn’t gonna be multiple endings. What’s the point of having reputations if you’re not gonna have multiple outcomes? Plus, with the criminal underworld they had a great reason to give a darker Star Wars story…
@@Jdemonify Definitely agreed. When you add a faction reputation system into a game though, multiple endings can be very cool and immersive. Especially with a heist story, imagine how many endings you can get depending on your approach, crew mates, and faction ties. Not saying it’s necessary, but with how Outlaws displays itself, multiple endings could’ve been cool. Especially when the criminal underworld isn’t known very well in canon at the time the game takes place. Anything could happen in canon=multiple endings.
The concept of this is very appealing. I always liked the seedier underbelly and outlaw/smuggler stuff in the SW universe and I was looking forward to this, but I guess at the end of the day it's still an Ubisoft game, so I'll just wait a couple months for this to go on sale for $20. I have a lot of other games I'm looking forward to/in backlog now and this doesn't seem like a must buy for me.

I don’t trust people with thumbnails burying their face in their hands and phrases like, “How could they let this happen?!?” hanging over their heads in big red letters.
Honestly, it feels alot more like Star Wars compared to for instance the Jedi series. It has more immersion, the cities and world actually feels and looks lived in. The interacion with npc's is way better. EXploring is better. If you love Star Wars, and have 18 bucks to spare, i sugget getting ubisoft + for a month to check it out
Was really happy to see you reviewed this. I'm a big star wars fan, but a bit of a Ubisoft hater, just feel like they reuse the gameplay formula for all their games, so I've been on the fence with this one. Some channels I've seen cover it are obvious shills and others feel like they're blindly hating it. I'm glad to see this isn't just space farcry, I hope Ubisoft continues to get further away from that formula, but it seems like it will still feel like a repetitive gameplay loop because of the lack of depth in combat. I usually don't prioritize narrative, gameplay is the most important thing to me usually, but with this being a star wars game, I feel like they already have all the hard work of establishing a lore base done and it's a shame they couldn't do more with the story when the IP is one of the more story rich ones out there. Thanks for the content as always, gonna wait for a 50% or more sale to check this one out. AAA game prices are just not worth it these days when you can find a plethora of indie and smaller studio games that are around 40 bucks or less that are just better.
I had it all set up. I knew I got off work at 9 and was off the next day. I could stay up until midnight and play the game when it launched. I was gonna enjoy that. Then, halfway through my shift, the morning shift manager called in sick and asked me to cover. The extra hours are nice but it's still disappointing.
@@wiwopkxmapknt6251 Extra hours means more money and who doesn't like more money? It is also a good idea to cultivate and maintain good relationships in the workplace.
Listening to the breakdown at the end... is Ubisoft deliberately trying to tank the game? Broken on PS5, can't buy on Steam, broken on Steam Deck, Ridiculous!
Speaking as a Star Wars fan growing up during the prequals, this was one of my most anticipated games. I love open world games, especially the AC Origins and Odyssey games, I like turning off my brain and exploring. I actually enjoy the feeling of clearing objectives off the maps in these games, I think its a OCD thing? I'm playing on ps5 and the only real issue I've had is a single crash. Obv that's not great but I haven't really had any other glitches or issues at all. Tbf I'm only about 5 hours in but I'm enjoying it alot so far.
He does 100% reviews which are unaffected by internet controversy since his review criteria doesn't include that so he won't exaggerate to say a 6/10 game is the worst game ever or that a 8/10 game is the GOTY. You can see his old reviews are pretty level headed and he'll comment on bad performance or AI but rarely uses hyperbole on how bad a game is.
The world and the progression system sound very organic. I really like that. And Kay's design is really nice too. But I don't play Ubisoft games, so, still not a priority until they fix the bugs at very least.

Man, what's up with that scene in the cantina where your mug is on the TV (assuming a wanted ad) while you are just sitting there listening to a conversation with no hood or mask going unoticed, lol. It's the little things.
It's good to see this channel growing, I remember finding this channel back when I bought Pathfinder WOTC and being overjoyed with the 100% reviews. Keep up the good work man!

You seem so laid back that I think you saying something is a "little bit annoying" to you, means it would be a LOT annoying to me. Lol.
Thanks for the hard work, always informative
Great review and mirrors the sentiment I've heard elsewhere, where boring combat just seems to be a dealbreaker. Great work, keep it up!
Great video. Another example of why I never pre-order and why I wait a minimum of 6 months to a year to try most open world or semi open world games.
Yeah i never saw the point of pre ordering nor would i ever on a new game. Its rare you see a good game ever drop
I am always glad when there is a game I am uncertain about got a review by you. You really dig into the games you make videos about and explain what works and dont work about them!
Kay’s dialogue is rough she sounds flat & unconvincing whenever she tries to lie or attempt to intimidate someone if you can even call it that 🤦♂️
25:37 Another deal breaker is all those infiltration phases.
It's Ubisoft man, what do you expect? They make the same game since the 2010s
That mechanic in red dead is very annoying and unnecessary I want to play a video game not a boring life sim rockstar has become very average and less fun and more give money for our stupid shark cards

Well if you compare melee in Starfield to melee in Outlaws, I'll take melee in Outlaws. In Starfield it is useless

I mean it was fairly fun, just not $70 fun.
Weird.
Kijimi sounds like a Sims word
The game seems to have a lot of content/mechanics, to keep busy for a very long time. It feels like there's quite some replayability value to it.
I was really bummed when I learned there wasn’t gonna be multiple endings. What’s the point of having reputations if you’re not gonna have multiple outcomes? Plus, with the criminal underworld they had a great reason to give a darker Star Wars story…
multiple endings is double edged sword. I was thinkin about it today. Sometimes games dont need it.
Anything could happen in canon=multiple endings.
because all the reputation systems end up with max rep across the board
Ubisoft would have had to actually put work in though to do that.
The concept of this is very appealing. I always liked the seedier underbelly and outlaw/smuggler stuff in the SW universe and I was looking forward to this, but I guess at the end of the day it's still an Ubisoft game, so I'll just wait a couple months for this to go on sale for $20. AAA game prices are just not worth it these days when you can find a plethora of indie and smaller studio games that are around 40 bucks or less that are just better.

at the moment the consensus among ever enraged "gamers" (ha!) is the "monke = GOTY" and "star wars = bad". without much reason, just because
It's a AAAA game. It comes with the territory. The comments when Veilguard releases will make me ascetic if I read too many lol.
And none of them have played the game either
I'm loving the game and people have different taste I think it's worth the money some say wait for sale some say it's torture 🤷♂️
I'm playing on ps5 and the only real issue I've had is a single crash. Obv that's not great but I haven't really had any other glitches or issues at all. Tbf I'm only about 5 hours in but I'm enjoying it alot so far.
That was definitely a very... diplomatic review
It's just unbiased unlike most of the reviews out
He does 100% reviews which are unaffected by internet controversy since his review criteria doesn't include that so he won't exaggerate to say a 6/10 game is the worst game ever or that a 8/10 game is the GOTY. You can see his old reviews are pretty level headed and he'll comment on bad performance or AI but rarely uses hyperbole on how bad a game is.
Yeah, I'd call it professionalism myself.
The world and the progression system sound very organic. I really like that. And Kay's design is really nice too. But I don't play Ubisoft games, so, still not a priority until they fix the bugs at very least.
Why do so many people bother watching reviews when they've already made their mind up?
Different perspective, better overview of all relevant info is one too.
To crap all over other people's enjoyment to troll, because they are bored and have no life🤷♂️
I have a feeling most people get on videos to see if it aligns to their beliefs.
