After the dogs pick them out and their luggage lights up world, It amazes me how these officers can keep a straight face when they ask "are you sure you've never used or smoked anything?"
It doesn't take much to get enough triggering amount. Walk through a room where people were using and your shoes may gather that amount. Sit on a couch were people were using and it's on your pants. Similar to cigarette smoke residue or gunpowder residue.

We don't know that they definitely didn't have any. The officers reached the end of their available line of investigation. Had they detained them both and examined their ... output ... for 24 hours, things may have turned out different.

But they were really nice They were not suspicious they knew it’s probably nothing serious and let us go. In the uk we could have been arrested for dropping make up all over the bag. Lol 😂

A carton of marlboros cost about $160.00 in the UK, the reason they have such high taxes is because the UK like most of europe has socialised medicine .so since the individual doesn't directly pay for for their own health care the government tries to offset the increased cost of medical care that smokers tend to have trough taxation , which in my opinion is a pretty fair concept . Nicotine is so underrated as an addictive substance. People go smuggle cigarettes even though they're legal. So either they consume way more than they can afford, or there's a large enough market of the same kind of people they can then sell it to. But if it's only about money, there are other substances that are easier to smuggle and much more valuable. On the other hand, the amount of repression just because people paid less elsewhere for the exact same product is also ridiculous.
Don't know about other countries but in the US if you get caught at the border for any infraction it goes on a permanent record with Customs and Border. Every time you try to cross the border in the future you will be questioned and or searched. I saw it happen to a colleague who tried to enter without declaring the beer he bought in Canada (attempting to evade customs duty). Almost 20 years later he was leaving Canada after a night of just partying and he was singled out and searched based on his past record.
I know I'm not the only one but I always terrified that they will find drugs in the luggage that I packed myself, I know there's no drugs but keep thinking it will magically appear to frame me one day 😂🤣

The dogs don't have to get as close or sniff as much to figure it out. Humans have terrible senses of smell and would basically need to take enough to get high to figure it out.

Is it better that those who chose NOT to smoke have to pay for the collective costs of smoking? It is your choice and right to smoke, fine, but then it is also your responsibility. It is like a toll road….if you don’t use the road, you don’t pay the toll it costs to have it. Alcohol isn’t great either, but it doesn’t cause nearly the collective costs to society that smoking-related illnesses do.

On a similar note forty six years ago while serving in the US military in West Germany, a group of us were sent on a temporary duty assignment to RAF Alconberry near Peterborough, I mentioned this because for it was impossible not to be impressed with the UK and how regular folks lived compared to here in the US, but at that time cigarettes were priced the same for military personnel there at Alconberry as in West Germany, US .10 cents a pack. In conclusion thank heavens I quit cigarettes soon after my thirtieth birthday.

Nicotine is so underrated as an addictive substance. People go smuggle cigarettes even though they're legal. So either they consume way more than they can afford, or there's a large enough market of the same kind of people they can then sell it to. But if it's only about money, there are other substances that are easier to smuggle and much more valuable.
On the other hand, the amount of repression just because people paid less elsewhere for the exact same product is also ridiculous.

Don't know about other countries but in the US if you get caught at the border for any infraction it goes on a permanent record with Customs and Border. Every time you try to cross the border in the future you will be questioned and or searched. I saw it happen to a colleague who tried to enter without declaring the beer he bought in Canada (attempting to evade customs duty). Almost 20 years later he was leaving Canada after a night of just partying and he was singled out and searched based on his past record.

I have read your comment, and as funny as it may sound, i have never heard of it. But i went on googling it and I reckon you are right. Their clothes were soaked in it! Hence the reading was as high as officers could get it, what these two individuals did was they went home and reversed a process in a lab and got all their cocaine back 😁 no wonder officers were frustrated
