    #MercedesBenz has always been one of those top prestige brands that showed off your success. About five years ago, the company introduced a new entry-level CLA class that didn't quite live up to the coveted 3-pointed star badge. For 2019, the #AClass is the new entry level Mercedes and the #MercedesBenzA220 is the least expensive way to get into a #Mercedes branded car. With a base price of around $32,500, this new #A220 may not start under 30k anymore, but most buyers will quickly notice that #Benz has learned a thing or two from their mistakes with the first generation #CLA.

    Happy Friday! We finally got our hands on the least expensive Mercedes-Benz in America. Its a huge step up from the first-generation CLA back in 2014. Expect a review on the 2020 CLA and GLB sometime in Dec but those of you looking at the A-Class will be pleasantly surprised... we certainly were! Mercedes is killing it these days.

      With AMG package and premium package (a must!) it's nowhere near $32k.. and if you got that far you might as well add navi + self-parking + 360 cam etc.. what you really want is a loaded Mercedes and this little jewel get quite expensive.

    • @jeffs6090
      @jeffs6090 4 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      That's typical MB! More so, typical German because BMW and Audi are the same. Base models are not worth it, but to option it the way most people want, it becomes too pricey real quick. When the "sub 30k CLA" came out initially, they never sold any at that price. Not one US dealer ordered one with that price. The same will be for this. The cheapest A220 at my dealership is $40,470 ($8k over base).

    • @jeffs6090
      @jeffs6090 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yes, essentially every car plays the option game to the extreme. 30k base easily becomes 42k after the options you want. Even expensive cars do it. A Macan can easily have 15-20k in options which is absurd! And for the life of me, I don't understand why a Bently (200+k) has a $700 homelink option, something that should most definitely be standard.
      I've always thought that every level of vehicle should have every option as standard. The only things one would choose are the exterior color, inside colors and materials, wheels, and engine/motor. That's one reason why cars are so expensive and why the options lists are so expensive, there's 100+ variations to make the same vehicle. The number of different electrical harnesses to manufacture alone is astonishing. That costs more money. If they came with all the options standard, the overall cost of manufacturing them would be much less and therefore cheaper for the consumer. For one example, why have two or more different stereo systems/display screens? Just put the better one of them in all the cars. That way, they don't have to make more than one and stock more than one which is all more expensive to do. Put heated seats in every car if it's an option - it'll be cheaper in the long run. You may not need it in Miami, but one day that car can be sold at auction and ends up in Minnesota where a new owner wishes it had it.

    Seat kinetics is not a gimmick if you understand it. It is not just that movement keeps you alert. If you sit in one position for a long time blood flow worsens. By moving the seat slightly it promotes good blood flow which helps in keeping you alert and making you feel less tired after a long journey. So it is not a gimmick. Also, you don't need foglights on new vehicles with these lighting systems. It is integrated into the light.

    I drove one for a few days, the interior is the best feature of the car. Everything else felt meh, nothing special. Acceleration was weak I thought, the "Auto Pilot" system is actually a lot worse than Tesla's, to be honest. The lane change does not look for oncoming traffic. It does not use a blind spot detector for it. My family found it very dangerous and that came from a sales rep at MB showing us the system.
    The AR system is not really AR. It's just a camera using an overlay. Others can do this too, it's not hard all your doing is turning on the front camera and overlaying street names with it.
    My family hated the back seats, I just felt there was no room when the front seats are pushed back. Tall people who sit in the front will squish their passengers in the back.
    I did a test of this, Lexus UX-H, Tesla Model 3, and a few others. I ended up buying the Tesla because it felt like a better car, the next one was the Lexus UX-H. This one just didn't feel good driving it, the interior was the best part.

      Marciano Garcia V I do have a clue, I own two, after all. The cost of ownership isn’t comparable to one from a Honda or Toyota, as the cars themselves aren’t comparable. This is especially notorious on older models, there was no expense spared and engineering was superior to
      most cars of the time; I happily spend the money needed to keep my cars in good shape. To me they aren’t money pits, they work perfectly and always have, the key is on the maintenance. Depreciation is something that affects all cars, it is especially notorious on luxury cars as the initial purchase price is higher than most other cars, a $15000 Hyundai will end up costing $6000 after three years, it is something cars simply cannot escape. Your “endless money pit” statement comes from a terrible, un researched video of a Toyota-worshipper who is not qualified enough to work on a Mercedes, and whose idea of a “good” car is a run-of-the-mill Toyota with mediocre engineering and refinement.

      @@TheSpeedEquipment Not always. I'm not a badge whore, and I did cross-shop the original Hyundai Genesis against comparable German and Japanese luxury cars. And for the same record, we could've had the same argument in 1989 - someone shopping for a Mercedes or a BMW would not be interested in a Toyota product, but Lexus changed it.

    Credit where credit is due, the new A Class is much more impressive than the old one. Though the old one didn’t have anywhere to go but up with its cheap interior, complete lack of features, and frumpy design. $32,000 isn’t bad considering the fact that a Mazda3 can hit the same price.

    Well considering this is a entry level car you can't expect to have the Best of the best. What that being said the interior looks Great for it's class and price if you want all that stich in the dash crap just buy a true luxury Benz if you got the money for it

    Well, it shouldn't be surprising that there's no free lunch. There's not even a bargain priced lunch special. Undeniably beautiful but the $32K base price is designed solely to get potential customers through the front door so they can be sold a vehicle much closer to $50K.

    I just can't picture a front wheel drive Mercedes car. Don't get me wrong, this is a nice car with all the bells and whistles you'd expect in a Mercedes. But for my hard-earned money, it's not worth it.

    It's such a shame that Mercedes has opted to put their R&D money towards adding tech features and aesthetics to their cars instead of putting it purely into materials, build quality and solid drivetrains. Sit in a benz from the early to mid 2000s and then sit in a new one. The new one will have all the gear you expect from a modern car, but it doesn't feel nearly as well made. Doesn't feel like will hold up to the years the way some of their older cars could.
    Great video, it's still an awesome car.
