- In this video, we've finally got our hands on a ReefMat 1200, and you will see the Red Sea ReefMat install on the Red Sea 625xl G2. This one is slightly different in the fact that it's 2nd hand. Watch along to see how it goes.

I have had one almost a year and its the best thing since sliced bread.
You're not wrong. I love mine 😀

Great video. One thing I have noticed is your water level in the sump is quite high. This means you are at a disadvantage as the starting level in the reefmat is high too. Ideally you want the level below the pipe entering the mat. I’ve learnt so much with mine and now use much less roll as a result of that and ensuring the return pump is not too strong. You can usually tell how optimal your use is by the colour of the used mat - you want it as dark brown as possible.
Hi James, Thank you. I have read on the Red Sea ReefMat site that the water needs to be just above the inlet. I wanted to make sure everything was working correctly first before I started reducing the water as it would affect the skimmer, too. You are right, and mine is a but too high 😀
I think having the water level below the pipe entering the Mat will be way too low, though, and only give me 7.5 inches, which is too low for the skimmer. My skimmers optimum is 9 inches. The top of the inlet is 10 inches, and as the skimmer is on a stand, it would be perfect then at 9 inches. At the moment, now I've changed the advance to 2.0-2.5cm the water is about 3/4 inch higher than the top of the inlet so I will look to adjust the baffle before the return pump section.
Great spot, though 😀

Just got my 250 can't wait try it btw where you get those media stands they look awesome and organized
Oh, nice one 😀 I think it's one of the best things I've brought for my tank.
Those media holders I got from Ebay 😀

Great video. I’m thinking of buying one myself, I’m wondering how much waste finds its way into the sump via the secondary drain?
Thank you. Well my emergency drain hardly has anything going down it and if I need to I just syphon out the sump detritus if needed. You could always have a filter sock on the secondary drain or even plumb it into the other side of the reef mat so absolutely everything goes through it.

@@ReefDramaI’m convinced. I have a friend visiting from China in early February so I bought one from there (after asking if they minded carrying it). Saved around 140 quid 😊reefmat 500 for my DD1200, thanks again
Welcome to the Reefmat club. One thing Red Sea won't tell you is the need to power cycle the reefmat every time you do an update. If you don't you run the risk it will chew through the roll without using it....
Hey thanks 😀 What do you mean exactly by power cycle?
Thank you for supporting my channel 😀
@@ReefDramathink he means reboot via the app after any updates.. 🤷🏻
Hey, cheers mate. Yeah, I guess so 😀
@@ReefDrama just installed my mat like 20 mins ago....im also using the red sea ATO...im sure this will be an issue as water builds and drains from roller the ato will kick in
Hey, it hasn't seemed to worry mine as it should only be the last chamber to rise and fall, but I know what you mean. I think it might also depend on how much you set it to roll on too.
Hope yours is going well? 😀 I love mine.

After having it for this long, have you noticed your nutrients dramatically drop? Did you come close to bottoming out nutrients?
Hey mate, it's not really a fair representation due to the fact I have a massive, messy eating Porcupine Puffer, so my nutrients are always around 20-30 ppm Nitrate and 0.1-0.2 ppm Phosphate.
I also dose No-Pox.
Once the Piney is moved into his new home (upcoming video spoiler alert ⚠️), I'm hoping the nutrients will come down and then I'll be able to see what happens with regards to having the Reef Mat taking everything out.
