Video explains it all and as shown the ReefMat 500 is a great bit of kit. But, if your Sump allows, the ReefMat 1200 is better (and in the UK isn't much more expensive - about two rolls more). The Fleece Roll isn't used right up to the edges (about 0.75 cm each side isn't used). That makes the cost of Fleece Roll on the bigger unit (per unit area of used Fleece Roll) much cheaper to operate in the long run... and empirically at least, the 1200 seems to collect more waste (darker roll) than the 500. Daily consumption drops significantly, too. The bigger unit also have a much bigger area to filter through and can support a much higher Flow Rate. I'm not sure the ReefMat 500 can operate at the quoted 6000 LPH throughput in a (typical) working Tank, but the ReefMat 1200 can operate with ease at the higher Flow Rates. I had the 500 but switched to the 1200.
Great video! One question, why is it that Red Sea doesn’t recommend modifying the sump like the way you did it leaving the refugium wall? That’s how I want to do it. Does it compromise the sump somehow, or is it just because it’s such a tight fit?
In the reefer 350 v3 it is extremely extremely tight of a fit, as you can see we got it to fit but it’s abit to tight for Red Sea to happily recommend people to do it
It depends what aquarium you have, visit this link on the Red Sea website to see what options can work for you thank www.redseafish.com/hardware/reefmat/installation-options/
What about the glass behind the Reefmat 500? How did you get it to fit without damaging it? It doesn't fit in my 350 v3. Do you leave the Reefer 350 door open? Since you can no longer close them after your conversion. How did you manage both?
This is a brilliant review mate. Great job.
Thank you guys! Means a lot
Watching a year later because installing mine today. Great tutorial.

Hacksaw? Get a pvc cutter
Best filter is old school bio balls and a big chamber for them. New technology is el garbage.
What did you use to glue the fitting to the pipe? I’m getting confused with people using primer and cement.
