    Uh oh... Do Ecotech, and Kessil finally have another competitor for less $$$.
    $50 less for multiple fixtures is up to a couple hundred dollars less for similar performance.
    I smell a price drop on AI, Ecotech and Kessil once Reefers show their results with this light.
    Good job Red Sea and BRS team.

    Thanks for doing this review, it was much needed. So many reef keepers are afraid to try new things because they're new...which is why some people still insist on halides or insist that Kessils, etc are still the best. However, I believe in scientific results, and they show these lights are on par or even better than existing LED fixtures. I wish it was compatible with Neptune though.

    I bought one of these redsea 90’s and fabricated onto the aquatic life t5 hybrid. It’s beautiful. I was able to do a comparison in store between radion, kessil, and redsea, the redsea led provides a great look and combined with 2 blue plus and 2 coral plus t5 bulbs it spectacular. The ReefBeat app was a breeze, and also part of my decision to go this direction. I didn’t have to buy anything else to hook up the led. And the other brands sure have some bad reviews as far as Wifi connectivity. So far I’m very impressed

    Super impressed! I am having a hard time chosing a light for a 12 x 24 wide nuvo! I was worried that I couldnt get enough spread to cover 24 inches so I bought a aquatic life edge strip light and it sucks! It grows NOTHING but algae, maybe because the white channels warm white is way to yellow! I am replacing it and was considering this, ai prime 16 and believe it or not 2 fluval 20 watts that are very cheap, cute and come with a mount! They cant be mounted high though which I only have about 5 inches on top anyway If I use 2 lights! If I mount from the side I can still center it and be able to access my kitchen cabinets! What would you do? Can I get a 24 inch spread from a1 prime? Do you think that two 20 watts mounted 5 inches up will give me enough spread being I am using two? I love the price of the fluvals (85 a piece on ebay)but just dont want to throw money away again! I dont know much about them and everyone knows that red sea and a1 primes are big names

    Re: Moonlight, does it even do moonlight right? Like does it only show it when that phase of the Moon is actually up in the sky? (hint it's not up all night long in most cases) Or does it just try to mimic intensity (which even a full moon is so much less bright than daytime that 1% intensity is orders of magnitudes brighter than what it should be. So to make the claim that it could start coral spawning and what not is a bit of a stretch.

    • @mikeremington7063

    Which reefled would you guys opt for in a red sea max nano with standard mounting height & frag height of just under half way point on the tank for that 250-350 par range.
    From what I’m seeing 160s seems to be the go for ideal par at this depth & a reef led 90 wouldn’t be strong enough.

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For a max nano, the ReefLED90 will likely hit the low end of your desired range. The 160 is overkill, but the nice thing is that you can always turn it down in intensity as needed to fine tune the intensity

I’ve had this light up and running for about a week after it was released. The colors that have come out of the corals is amazing. We haven't had a chance to play around withe the 50w version, but if it's anything like the 90w, it's a great option. The Reef LED fixtures seem to have much less of that disco ball effect than other LED fixtures out there, so if that's important to you, the 50 would be a better choice.

      I believe they accidentally quoted the size for the reefled 50, not 90. I will gladly taking a larger sized light fixture to ensure it has a large heatsink and good fan. The additional mass will help keep the led's cooler improving their lifespan.

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I were in your shoes, I would select the mid-sized mount for one main reason. That is that the rockwork of your tank is likely to be tallest towards the back. So, even though this option won't be perfectly centered, it'll be ideal for a vast majority of the aquascapes out there. If your aquascape is built differently than that and you have a very specific lighting need, then you may want to reconsider that suggestion. At the end of the day, you're right on that boarder between the two sizes and I don't think you can go wrong with either one given your tank's dimensions.

    I have 3 RSR 90 over my 4’ RSR 425. The color is blended well with no disco effect. The color is very blue; if I crank my whites up I get more of a pink coral+ bulb color.
    I’m using mine at 70% and my Acros are encrusting and have polyp extension. I’m apprehensive about the Marketing term “Reef Safe”; I still believe you can bleach your corals out if you max these lights out.

I really like the shimmer, the mounting arm, and the app. I just wish they would make a bigger option how radion does the 15s and the 30s. I can’t stress how much I like these lights. The whole reason I went this route instead of radion or hydras because this review. Great in-depth review.

My hubby hates the look of them as well. Men love big toys..hahah. But whats holding me back is the spectrum. If I am understanding this right there is no red and green ect? Just 2 channels whites and blues! Or maybe very little. I know you said you didint know the end out come of growth and colorization, I hate for my corals to be guinea pigs! . I would go with radions if they didint make you choose pro or blue Starting to look like hydras for me and I saw them at my lfs the other day and the one lfs that was brightly lit the shimmer wasnt so bad and I went to another and its very dark in there and it was as if someone placed a strobe light in the tank! I do plan to add a Hybrid ty5 later on but not until I upgrade my tank to a bigger size, so I guess I have to endure the shimmer. Anyway to dyi a diffuser for a hydra? Can you tello me of another brand. I also dont like kinds you hang from ceiling until I upgrade my hubby might build a canopy for my t5 hybrid. I was looking for something that will fit in the ai hybrid fixtures or as a stand alone light was on the larger side, dosnt need to be hung from ceiling and not a ton of shimmer. This is small but at least its very thick.

      If you hate a lot of shimmer have less disturbance on the top of your water that will solve your problem with that. Also from what I’ve heard from others these reef leds are better than hydra. Corals in the ocean get more blue light cause that’s the spectrum that goes through the water the best and furthest. My friends run leds but I still run 20k halides and a couple of fluorescent bulbs. Also there is a video somewhere I seen with before and after from this channel I think with these leds and the coral growth of so many months was astounding.

    I'm configuring a Hamilton Cebu Sun fixture with 2x 250 watt Radium bulbs and 4x T5s at 10,000K. The cost will be around $850 including bulbs. That is maybe $600 less than these LEDs.
    Of course, Kessil, et al. are even more expensive.
    Edit: I revised the language to eliminate any thought that I was trolling. I remain bewildered. BRS posits elsewhere that halides+T5s are the standard to be met for SPS. T5s alone, with enough quality bulbs and a quality fixture, are the easiest bulletproof approach for SPS. LEDs are problematic in getting the spectrum right and getting the right intensity. The former is being addressed lately, but the latter is inherent to the technology.
    Let me explain. For T5s and metal halides, a large aquarium is not that much more expensive to light than a small one. Longer or more powerful bulbs are only modestly more expensive. But for LEDs, if we hold the fixture constant, the cost for more light coverage or punch at depth is directly proportional to the number of fixtures. Go beyond 3' long and you'll be bleeding money in comparison.
    While I see the appeal in playing with spectrum on one's phone, this technology seems to be a dead end for SPS except in very small tanks. For example, for a 2 foot frag tank or coral quarantine, dimmable LEDs would be hard to beat.

    • @skzion2
      @skzion2 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      BulkReefSupplyCom I appreciate your reply, and it's obvious that my current view is strongly influenced by BRS's own videos! You see, some of us do pay attention.
      Support at Hamilton claims that the heat issue is overblown, particularly for ballasts under 400 watts and in units with active cooling. Of course support is not unbiased (though Hamilton sells various kinds of lights).
      Randy, one other change is the widespread use of screened or open tops. That allows the use of fan cooling. The widespread use of ATOs allows us not to worry about evaporation.
      One more thought, this time about energy usage. The XR15 uses a max of 95 watts. But I would consider only 4x this unit for hard core SPS. That *will* be less than the unit I am configuring, but ... it's not *hugely* less.
      I wish you would evaluate the Hamilton Cebu Sun unit. Based on what I have seen on your channel, it sure looks good. Not very pretty, though.

      Well they're not going to let you know what their manufacturing cost is, and to be honest between two separate identical looking figures there can be a huge range of cost associated with them based on tolerances, it's just the nature of the beast when it comes to the Chinese manufacturing behemoth.
      That said, just the look of the LED die doesn't strike me as super high end, again there could be different tolerances etc, but compared to something like the Kessil array where everything is spaced out evenly, it just looks more professional/high end.
