Replacing brakes and getting rotors resurfaced at a mechanic: $400 and 3 hrs wait time wondering what else they'll try to sell me. Replacing brakes AND rotors myself: $70 and 1 hr having fun with my nephew. Thanks!

That was better than your drum brake demo but still you didn't inspect the piston boot, pull it back and see the state of the piston-- or get the rust off the mating surface of the piston. And a good tip is lube the threads on all the mounting bolts-- (yours squeaked when they came out-- a bad sign showing they were on their way to seizing up and needing a torch)-- much easier to deal with them on the next repair and they last longer. At Toyota and Honda where I apprenticed we also put copper anti-seize on the slider clips or the ends of the pads and even a light bit on the piston where it contacts the pads. Little details that make for quieter operation and ease of repair next time. The 'squealer' is called a wear indicator. Again you should tell people to inspect the lines coming into the brakes and the bleeder nut. And you can return a brake piston by putting a cloth over the jaws of a large channellock pliers and gently squeezing them back in. In hundreds of brake jobs I've never had one go in unevenly- unless the piston is very rusted and pitted in which case you need a caliper overhaul. And unless the master cylinder has been overfilled it should not overflow. Mainly you cannot overemphasize the importance of lots of anti-seize compound (but always wipe off brake surfaces after) and thorough cleaning at every brake job. So many of these TH-cam videos are done by untrained mechanics-- there's a reason it takes 4 years to get your Class A license.

This is a pretty simple job once you've done it. I do the rotors so infrequently that I need to refer back for the correct socket size. It's good though, they shimmy enough that they're never frozen in place on me when I have to change them, LOL. They just fall right off. It takes longer to jack the car up and pull the tires than it does to do the brakes.

Btw what is that torque wrench (measurementse etc) you used to tighten the wheel back on. It's so much better than the traditional jack wand. I need to buy it!!!😊 Hope you all sell it.
Do you still need to have new rotors turned before installing them? Our 1990 Voyager Grand Caravan ALWAYS needed new rotors every 25K miles. Design flaw as dodged/chrappler just used original K-car rotors for a vehicle that was 1.5 times heavier.
bought a 2016 Versa new. at the 5 year mark I have 14,000 miles and just needed clutch replacement ( no, we did not abuse it). Mechanic also told me the starter is making a noise and the front pads and rotors need changing. I passed on the starter and rotors/pads. I watched this video and will do it myself. I will most def. buy the pads/rotors from A1 - this video is worth any price difference I may get somewhere else - not that I check pricing anywhere else. they cost $79.95 so how much of a diff can there be??
I broke my 17mm socket trying to loosen the caliper bracket bolts. They were so tight!! Even hitting the wrench with a hammer wouldn't budge it. Any recommendations??
Is it necessary to put some lithium grease (or other brake grease) on the pad "tabs"? So they slide easier in the slots? How about grease on the caliper cylinder? Or where the pads contact the caliper?

Question, Ive seen guys put thread locker into the bolts that hold the bracket. is that really necessary because In my car it didnt had that blue paint called thread locker. please correct me if Im wrong. thanks!
OK.. What just happened? Did anyone else notice between 4:51 to 4:59 there is a rotor switch. While he is tapping the first rotor, the nut for the axle/drive shaft is missing, then at 5:01 or 5:02 it's a different Rotor and the Nut is back in the center! lol

Way he does here NOT a good idea!.You don't want that old dirty cooked fluid to enter in to newer models abs modules. You should have a tube attched to bleed valve, open beeder valve and dump old fluid into a container when pushing the caliper piston in. This way was fine in the 60's 70's 80's but not with the invent of abs. Another tip use a kitchen turkey baster to take old fluid out of master cylinder and refill with new fluid before starting. MOst new manufacture recommened brake fluid replacemt every 10K while pads last 40/50k or more, so you should replace 100% of the brake fluid as part of any brake job.Even if only doing one axle, replace fluid to all 4 wheels.

Only thing I'd say to mention is take break cleaner and clean your new rotors. Alot of times they come with dirty oil.

Nissan just quoted me $449 today for Versa Note. RockAuto has rotors & pads for $75-105 depending on quality level for Ceramic pads.

Should the the brake fluid cap be open when compressing the caliper? And after install should the brakes be pumped?
I always take the cap off and wrap an old towel around the reservoir. This will insure no fluid will spill when the fluid gets compressed back.

Hey, how do you bleed the 2016 nissan versa?
I switched my slide pins on accident on my 2015 versa note. How do I know which one goes where since they are different?
No antiseize/ copper lube?
Do we need to put on brake parts lubricant?
Which socket did u use to take off the big nut on the rotor?
I had to double check the lug nuts, they look backwards because the nylon ring goes towards the wheel. I guess they’re supposed to be like this 12:28
I use a Dewalt electric impact wrench to take the wheels off.
no mention of pumping the breaks when done? no brake grease on the outer pads?

My driver's side front is the one grinding for me.
