  • Want a SawStop saw but don't have $5,000 - $7,000 just laying around? Let me show you how you can get a SawStop in your home shop for $2,000 or less.
3 Phase SawStop saws have been a staple in the industrial and education industries for over a decade now. There are lots of them on the used market, many of them with relatively low use on them. Especially those coming from high schools, and maintenance shops. As hobbyists we don't have 3 Phase power and as a result these saws get overlooked frequently, and as a result have a much lower resale price as compared to Single (or 2 Phase technically) 220V saws.
Let me show you the process to use factory SawStop parts to convert a 3 phase saw I bought used to single phase (2 Phase for you electricians) 220V power. It's easier and much less expensive then you might think.
And to top it all off, you get a saw with a bran new motor, pulley, starter, contactors, safety switches, etc.

The part is listed as a surge suppressor.

Hi great video... where did you order your parts lf you dont mind me asking? Kms, bussybee, lee valley?. I'm about to do to the same conversion. I'm still hesitant about getting the 5hp or 3hp motor though... you have any comments on that? Cheers.

I ordered through Windsor Plywood, but I contacted Saw stop directly to get the part numbers first. You can order direct through SawStop, however SawStop does give free shipping to places like Windsor Plywood if they order enough all at once. So I waited to get on the next stock order for the store and jumped in to get free shipping. Not sure of the price difference between the 3HP and the 5HP. But I can't see it being that much of a difference. On the other hand I can't see why a person would really need a 5HP or larger Saw. I know this saw is night and day difference from my 1.5 HP saw I was using before. But not having used the 3HP model if is isn't a big cost to go up to the 5 HP motor and you have the power supply for it, I would just go for it and get the 5 HP one.

Do you have the 3phase components? I just bought an abused 3-phase saw and need the 7.5HP 3-phase contactor box. (I'll be using it 3 phase)

I do have it still, but to be honest I would just buy it new. I think the 2 phase one was around $200 CAD. They will also be able to ensure it matches your saw, there are a few different variants over the years I believe.
