  • I decided I wanted the best table saw for my new woodshop, so I sold my Sawstop PCS and got a fully loaded 5hp Sawstop ICS with their large sliding table and the floating overarm dust collection. I changed the thumbnail after uploading, so that is why there is a bit of a confusing spoiler to the start of this.

You do have to spend some time setting the saw up... blade, fence, etc. But once done, the saw is great. Fairly compact which is Nice th-cam.com/users/postUgkxXh-4_3-ZT1fFWP91ZV7iVqzElr0lEb-a I did get an Incra Miter Gauge which takes some setup as well. The stock miter gauge can be adjusted in the miter slot with a little painter's tape... this tightens up the side to side play a lot.

Hey Scott. In my eyes, that's the bad thing you can buy. Space and money wasted.
Buy yourself a German sliding table saw. From Felder / Hammer or Martin.
You can work with it and not play.
      American table saws are garbage.
If you want to buy one and need help, get in touch.
      Greetings from Germany.

@DW Palme That’s not right my friend. Please check out the Felder P C S system.
You can see it on TH-cam.
After triggering, the saw blade can continue without damage.
Maybe it isn’t junk, but it’s a diy saw.

Nice review, and tool. I can attest to the value of buying the best (if you have room and $$). Twenty five years ago I bought a Delta Unisaw (best in class at that time) and it is still going strong. I added an extension table and Biesmire fence (which your fence is based on) and later a drop down roller out-feed. I am sure your saw is better in many ways, but not by much. You will enjoy this for decades!

My friend is a cabinet maker and Ive watched and helped him over the years, he told me to go big with the HP so I did. Good points were that I can grow into it and if I ever wanted to sell it there are lots of takers for a saw that good and that big. I asked him this before but he just said he wasn’t really interested in them which is his choice. I think every cut in this video would have been easier and faster on a euro slider with a larger blade, particularly I noticed the way the pieces caught on the table and didn’t pull back smoothly and then trying to cut 4” material in two passes is a hassle.

15 years ago, before Sawstop, I was in the market for a replacement of my old Craftsman contractor's table saw. I had come into a nice chunk of money and was looking to do this time and be happy for the rest of my life. I was visiting Green Bay, Wi and found Woodworking Depot. At the time, they had one of everything from every manufacturer on display. The clerk steered right to a Delta Unisaw with the 5 HP motor. He was kind enough to give me some information on several others but he had me at "hello" with the Delta. If Sawstop would have been available, I probably would have bought it just for the safety factor but, doing some research on what was available then, it was the Delta....and then everything else. I bought the one with the 52 inch to the right of blade table. I still have it, use it religiously and that 5 HP motor has never once bogged down on anything I cut. Thanks to that guy at Woodworker's Depot, he saved me from buying the 3 HP motor and spending the extra bucks on the 5HP......I'm figuring that this will be the last table saw I'll ever have to buy!

I also love the fact that you can adjust almost everything so you can have precise measurements. The quality before was awesome with "eyeballing" and tape measure but now you have a 3rd option that will absolutely bring the finished product to another level and increase the quality many times over. You seem to think that everyone gets their saw for free and that nobody pays for their tools.. that’s pretty ignorant of how taxes work for one. If a person were to be gifted a product, they still have to claim the value; if they buy it but get to write off the expense because of the use as a video prop, it lowers their tax liability. Smart people know how to game the system and it isn’t from “free” tools.

Congrats on the partnership with SawStop. You deserve it. By putting in the time and creating the free content you give to many of us inspiring woodworkers.
    Thank you and happy holidays!!

Excellent video and congratulations on the upgrade. I love my PCS and since it has served me well for 7 years now. If I were to go full time, I think I would upgrade. Your video had just the right points and content. Well done! BTW, I live in Vancouver WA, so I should connect with you when all this isolation is over.

Great channel and stellar work as always. I am subscribed and the bell notification has been activated. I have a Ridgid R4520 table saw. In the next few years when I'll be ready to change table saw and be a more experienced woodworker, I will upgrade to a Sawstop. Thank you for your quality videos.

Christmas. This was a great review. I am just a hobbyist so I learn a lot from you and I enjoy watching each of your videos. I have a Sawstop 1.75 PCS and I love it. It’s a Hugh upgrade over my old Delta TS-300. I can’t see ever needing the ICS but it was really informative to see your review. I was especially interested in the slider. Good work as always. I look forward to your videos. Thanks J.

Christmas Day! Thank you for showing the sliding table…I’m waiting for my 3hp PCS 52” with the TSG-FDC to come in. One employee tried to talk me out of the slider but it was what I wanted and your video just enforced the need. I don’t think I need the industrial saw as you have as I’m not a professional. You’re absolutely correct that the employees at SawStop are top notch and they don’t receive any commission if you buy from them and we’re quite happy that I was buying from a local dealership here in N.C. thanks again!

I had a 5 hp powermatic 66 3 phase for 12 years and loved it. The weight and build were significant. However age and eye sight started to get into my head and realized that my insurance deductible was more than a new SawStop. After reading Chris Schwarz's review of the PCS, judged against his gold standard the Powermatic 66 I went with the ICS which addressed all the critiques Schwarz raised. After using it for 2 months now I like it WAY better than my 66 . The engineering on the different features are clever and fit and finish are top notch. I got the small slider as well . It's a little finicky but I am learning to use it and it is proving very useful.

Independence day. Congrats on the upgrade. I love my SawStop. The only thing I dont like about it is the cast iron table will rust just by glancing at it with perspiration on your hand. I've cleaned it and waxed it but it's just vulnerable. My old Rockwell was much more resistant to rust. Love your channel.

Awesome. About the instructions for your new table saw, well that is what supposed to be. Love the color coordinated with the parts. Agree, 99% of instructions on anything are either scant or if any, not in color and not specific so I usually end up looking for YTb videos a lot for better instructions. Yes, companies should emulate SawStop. May be one I get that table. Congratulations. 🎉

If you want to stop a lot of the dust on the skim cuts, the best thing I have found is to add some long brush pile around the edge of the extractor hood. It wants to be about a 2" brush pile so it meets the table when cutting common board thicknesses. It will stop the dust deflecting out, but still allow airflow through it to the extractor arm. It improves overall performance even on normal cuts too. 👍

Christmas is the best! Hi Cam, I had the same issues with my fence stop measurement on a similar setup when i first started using it. The trick is to fully flip the stop over so the stop covers the measuring tape. e.g. flip the stop a full 180 degrees. The stop then perfectly lines up with the measuring tape. Hard to explain without a picture. Hope it makes sense!
