These longer videos are amazing, it's hard to test some of the more expensive broadheads so it's appreciated that you show them in full detail. Helps me make the right choice when buying them. Another great video.
I enjoy watching you videos. I learn so much and it’s nice to have someone honest instead of some of these other wanna bees just feed you a bunch of bs. Keep the videos going and good luck in the up coming season and it’s shows your true colors giving back to your viewers I really appreciate that. Keep the hard work going.
Check out Woodys archery supply’s nocks. They are good! Cheaper than nockturnals. I feel they are brighter than nockturnal. They are called Starburst nocks. They have a wide spectrum of colors, from red to pink, blue and green, white, and flashing. 38.50 for 6 nocks, and you can even order practice nocks so your not killing your hunting nocks. They are roughly 25 grains and you don’t need a nock tool to cut them off.
One way to practice with lighted nock weight is to glue in some small small screws into the nonlighted nocks. Then weigh them and grind them down to weight. Works great. That way you don’t ‘waste’ the battery of your lighted nocks when just practicing.
So informational on the tinkering! It's helped me out so much on my setup and how to shorten my learning curve on being able to find what works for me!
Just received 12 DeePower 100 grain 3 blade fixed. They are razor sharp and everyone weighs exactly 98 grains. Lusaka adventures did his tests and I was impressed also. They are truly a quality head. And to only cost $21 a dozen. I haven't got to shoot them yet but if anything they will surely kill a hog at twenty yards. I'm very sure they will be plenty well made for whitetail. 1 1/8" cut.
Nice job on the ABT video Dan, definitely the way to be always looking to improve each day nd each set up, definitely alot of options out there for broadheads,
Thorn Broadheads are legit! They have the best containment system and always open, I've never had to track more than 30 yards. Plus they offer a reblade service for when they get dull so you can keep using them over and over.
I tested the Thorns for Black Ovis when they wanted to start carrying them on the site. They always opened up through cardboard, and blew threw an elk scapula no problem with the head, and blades staying intact. A lot of great heads there!
So Generous of you! I love your videos! I think they are some of the best, informative and interesting on elk and gear! I will be placing my order for sure!!
Thanks for doing the comparison. I've been shooting mechanicals the last 10 years with mixed results. I built new arrows this year in addition to switching to fixed. I could use a few to test! Thanks for your generosity! 🤘🏻
Using the slick trick ss3 three blade. Love the one piece construction. I think a cnc milled head will always be as close to indestructible as you can get. Running victory extortions with 50grain insert. Total weight 570grain. Im pulling 75pnd at 31inch draw. V3 31. Happy with it.
Dan thanks for the ABT broadhead info. I have got to start doing my own brodhead tinkering. I have shot the same 4 blade 125 grian muzzys for the past 15 years. I bought 55 of them on closeout. Might be time to start looking for new ones.
Thank you for your content, have been reaching and experimenting with different weight out front and have found 200 grains are working best for my set up. Thank you again.
One problem I’ve had is the weight difference going from lighted nocks to regular. I’ve tried pin nocks, didn’t like them because they are always muck thinner than the nocturnals and will cause some nock pinch when switching back to the lighted nock. Victory sells an aluminum nock that weighs 16 grains I believe for .204. I’ve found it’s a much more inexpensive way to practice with my hunting setup.
I’d recommend shooting those tooth of the arrow xl again. I haven’t seen them with planing issues. They have been flying great out to 60 yards for me. Right with field points. Maybe your rest is a touch low or it was just not as good a shot as you thought.
Love the videos keep up the good work always learn something new or find something new love the iron will but the price is little much thanks for all the info on the videos i been trying watch them all
Have you ever tried the Kudupoint contour? I was getting my first broad heads and the shop talked me into getting them. I have looked into them more and found they offer right and left single bevel and a plus series with bleeders. I havent had a chance to kill with them yet but found they are so dang close to how my field points shoot. I think I need to add front weight though to use my new knockon lighted knocks. Its funny I didnt think about them weighting more and needing to offset until seeing this video. Thanks for the info as always.
Hi Dan. I just wanted to comment about your switch to lighted nocks, as you stated they may affect your sight tape. I switched to them 3 years ago and have noticed no noticeable difference out to 120 yds, even with my broadheads… Best of luck on your upcoming hunts… Love your shows…
I highly recommend getting a Stay Sharp 344 system for that Annihilator and any other fixed 3 blade broadheads you have. I used them on my Annihilator 125's and they are a lot sharper compared to flat stone sharpening. Also, as an Idahoan, stoked that they finally allow lighted nocks, it's been long overdue. Great videos, keep them up!
Man I love these videos! Family and I are hitting the road down to stonewall today for elk camp, wife said she hasn’t seen me this excited/ nervous for an event in awhile!
You should check out swhacker's for deer sized critters. You won't find a more accurate head out there. I use the 100gr 2" cut and have killed close to 20 deer and all have been pass throughs with great blood trails. Iron wills are definately great fixed heads but expensive. Crimson talon has some very interesting single bevel heads with some wide cuts 1.5 inches and are pretty inexpensive, great video, thank you.
Generally speaking, if you have an arrow that has developed a wobble and you have ruled out the field tip or broadheads, it’s going to be in the insert, you can put the arrow on a hard surface with one hand just barely above the insert with the other hand holding the arrow up at a 45degree angle and add pressure, minimal and bend that insert back into a good spot. This may require several attempts and you’ll have to pay attention to the arrow and spin/rotate the arrow as necessary. I’ve done this with dozens of arrows but not I run titanium inserts and that rarely is needed!
Very interesting content I subscribe greetings from the uk you say Murphy’s law we say Sod’s law here in uk 🇬🇧 I no idea so much choices for bow hunting but alas here in uk not legal to bow hunt 👍🇮🇹🐾🦊
I was stuck on the QAD Exodus for years. With great success. But I recently switched to the Iron Will Single bevel solids And I love them. I do not like lighted nocks. I tried them a few times. There is no denying that my arrows fly differently with them. I shoot with both eyes open. I always see where my arrow hits in whitetail range.
How did the QAD Exodus fly compare to your field tips?? Which one do you like better as far as putting a nice hole and blood trail, QAD Exodus or iron will??

I want to try a new arrow setup for my Semi new PRIME Black 3 bow that I got late last summer and didn’t use it last fall. But 2022 is the year for it. I am thinking of doing 200 upfront instead of 150. Bumping my broadhead weight up to at least 125 grain. I won't discredit ironwill bill or his products. Any of them. Ever. No leg in the race there. Only reason I haven't messed with them, is the price, and I don't think I'll ever pull the trigger, because if I did. I may loose my spot in bed and be on the couch. The Snyder system permanently combined with a left bevel that was just released shoved into black eagle x impact just makes me tingle. Mind you. Hi Dan. My question for you is I don’t want to change from shooting my favorite arrows. Gold tip 5575/400. In Your video you talked about the gold tip stainless steel inserts. My problem is all I can find to fit my arrow is brass or aluminum. Which would you recommend or should I consider different arrows?? Thanks
Dan, do yourself a solid and order some Kayuga heads from Australia. You won't buy another broadhead again. ZOT's are insane as are the Pilot cuts. 2 blade single bevel with single bevel bleeders if you so wish.
Hey Dan, why do you use the primer pen on the shaft and not the fletching? Honestly I have never thought of doing it that way. I put it on the fletching and they never come off
Most of your primer pens are acetone/denatured spirits, and with alot of the new adhesives and vanes, you only need to clean one or the other. I still clean both, I'm mildly ocd. But you can use them for shaft/vane cleaning. With the amount of vanes I've sliced off I could see people saving time for video sake just to clean one and get it on there. Not saying that's what happened here. More could of been done between clips, but it's not as uncommon as one would believe.
