    After 20 years of shooting pistol and rifle, this video just changed the game for me as a new bow shooter. The best example I can give is that at 70 yards, trying to focus on the front sight I only hit the target 2/6 times. Following this instruction, I was 6/6 with three in the kill zone. Fantastic instruction.

      When shooting pistols and rifles, you're supposed to focus on the target and let the front sight blur out. Thats why you started shooting better. You finally, after 20 years, learned how to aim your gun.

      @@sjeverett75 according to every military and law enforcement firearms instructor (of which I am one) in the USA, you focus on your front sight. That’s why we teach “front sight, front sight, slack, pause, squeeze” to new recruits. I don’t know where you learned to shoot, but you have a lot to learn.

      Chad, I was thinking the same thing. This is just the opposite of how i was trained in pistol shooting. Why is archery opposite for handgun? Which one is right? Do I need to change my pistol focus or my archery focus? Well, time to go to the ranges and experiment.

    Great advice and makes since. I tell children to focus on whatever it is they're aiming for. The bowling pin you want to hit, where you want the golf ball to land, the basketball basket, the place you want your baseball to go etc. And this doesn't just apply to sports. Whatever you focus on that is ahead of you is how you can accurately achieve getting to that point or goal. Again, great advice and helped me tremendously with aiming and shooting my bow.

    I still have to work on, already being on what Im about to shoot, but this video makes all of the sense! I had stopped using a bow in 2005 because of injuries. Just got back into it last year. For me, it wasn't like "riding a bike". Lol. It was literally like learning something new. I harvested last year with it. But still felt like something was wrong. I watched this vid (along with some others you posted) 2 weeks ago and started trying this technique. I can already see and feel the difference. Thanks for sharing. I had my first archery lesson as an adult (and my first time firing my bow in about 15 years) last week. I went from not even hitting the paper at all to getting into the intermediate rings. My aim only started noticeably improving when I started basically ignoring my sight pins and looking around / past them.

    I just got a bow tune from my shop and I asked him to take a quick look at me shot process. He was cool enough to help and saw one thing that I needed to know badly. So the only thing he said was just hold my shot position until the arrow hits the target. That tightened my groups and increased my dot accuracy. So simple

    After 34 years of bowhunting, I stopped using a pin last year. I "frame it & claim it" using an EZ-V sight now. I don't even have to remind myself to focus on the target instead of the pin, because there are no pins! It took some practice, but I will never go back to using a pin or crosshair for bowhunting. I don't even use a rangefinder for practice any more. Haven't even touched my rangefinder since last spring turkey season. A doe took me by surprise yesterday morning. I still don't know how she got within bow range without me noticing her, but the ground was damp (quiet). I think she may have been the first deer that I harvested from a hang-on stand in a sitting position. I am usually up long before they reach me. Now that my eyes are older, a sight without pins works better for me. I only share all this, because it fits with what you are sharing. Focus on the target!

    Glad I watched this. Trying my hand at archery soon and apparently the aiming technique is the opposite of firearms aiming. I've been shooting for 20 years, 8 time expert in the Marines. When shooting firearms you focus on the front sight post. If your target is clear you're doing it wrong. Will definitely be an adjustment to focus on the target and not the sight.

    I think its verry interesting what opinions all the different shooters have. On a pistol you focus on the sights on a rifle you should focus on the target on a bow with some sort of aiming device most poeple say you should focus on the pin. Now you say focus on the target witch i have to do anyways because i shoot classic intuitive. My rule of thumb is the one that hits the target is right. So if you dont hit it you just havent found your style. I noticed to if i shoot rifle im much more calm maybe its because i dont see the movement of the rifle that much.

    • @BowOnlyOutdoors
      @BowOnlyOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely. It’s your perception of the sight and the target and what you’re comfortable with. Most archers find it most comfortable with this method because of the extra movement, but not everyone is the same.

    Great advice. I concentrate on the target. I was taught that in the Marine Corps. You want the rear/peep sight and the target to be clear. And you want the front sight post/pin to be blurred. If you're a hu ter, you want to see the movement of your target. So you can alter your shot. You will definitely shoot better. It might not make sense, but once you're accustomed to it, you'll wonder why you did it the other way in the first place.

      @@BowOnlyOutdoors I like to see properly setting up out of the box setting up a 3 pin sight. I have seen different videos where one person said that you set up the first pin by moving the sight box and then you set the middle pin by moving the pin. Someone else said that you move the sight box for the top and middle pin. Also before you set up your sights, should make sure that your rest is setup properly? Thanks for asking me. I believe you can easily clarify these questions through a video.

    I teach people this all the time. I tell people it's like learning to drive a car. You want to look up the street not down your hood. Same thing with sights and targets. Makes it super easy with both eyes open to. Though it is weird at first.

      This is exactly right this is the best way for archers to understand and it Works 100%. The first shot or two provided your bow is setup properly, and with good form, release, n follow through your arrow will find the bullseye!!! I taught my Nephew this 15 yrs. Ago and he was stunned at how much easier n consistent it was to shoot n hit the center of the bullseye.👍🏹🏹
