This is WONDERFUL news. I've been using intermittent fasting since March of 2020, resulting in the loss of over 80 pounds (so far), so these added benefits are MOST encouraging. For the record, I've always made sure to stay hydrated (plain water, black tea or coffee only) both during my fasting periods as well as in my 'eating window'. I typically break my fast with a protein small meal (or snack) along with one healthy meal a day when actively losing weight, when I'm easing off a bit to take a break, I add in a second healthy meal. The most effective ratio for me has been 19 (occasionally more) hours of fasting, with the remaining 5 hours considered my window for my meal/meals. I was diagnosed with early stage macular degeneration about 2003 (8 spots of drusen in one eye, 6 in the other, so it was VERY early stage). Additionally, I was told at my last eye exam that I have the very beginnings of a cataract in my left eye, not unusual for my age group (68 as of last March) but definitely a condition I want to monitor (and slow down that process if at all possible). After seeing your video regarding astazanthin (not sure of spelling), I added that to my daily eye vitamin, as well as melatonin each evening for it's benefit to eye health (the sweet sleep factor is secondary for me personally, but still appreciated). My inflammation levels have dropped considerably, easing the effects of the plantar fasciitis as well as some mouth/gum issues I've dealt with in the past. Thank you for sharing your research, I love learning about how I can help improve and safeguard my health as much as possible.
If intermittent fasting is beneficial for eyesight, then theoretically, periodic 4-5 day water fasting should be even more advantageous, right? There are numerous reports suggesting that water fasting has enabled many individuals, including Will Smith, to completely discontinue their blood pressure medications.
Yes it absolutely helped my eyesight recover using a 3 day fast. I had to read many labels as a part of my job when I was 28 the other year. I noticed that I had to get closer and focus a little more to read them. But it just so happens that I started to fast around then. So I did my first 72 hour fast, and my vision was back to a normal 20/20 afterwards! I would say I probably had sugar damage to parts of my eye. Also my feet swelling and gout symptoms went away with about 80 lbs of fat/water retention too.
Fasting induces ketones by liver and muscle that signals autophagy, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects as well as stimulating mitochondria and energy production. Similarly several botanical have parallel effects including β-caryophyllene (BCP), an aromatic essential oil found in cloves, black pepper and cinnamon. BCP improves contrast sensitivity and vision immediately by promoting the same mechanisms as ketones.
I started IF and Keto this past February and lost 25lbs. Also, about 2 months in my eyes went blurry. (I wear glasses.) I read on a random comment that IF and Keto made someone's eyesight better. I found an old pair of glasses and lo and behold they were less blurry. So I went to the eye doctor and my prescription had improved!
@@ainahaga No, I started out eating breakfast around 11am and eating dinner at 5pm. After a month or so breakfast moved to 1pm. During this time I ate no sugar, drank no alcohol, and ate very few carbs and what I did came from vegetables. I did this from about February through early May. I went from 205 to 173. My eyesight changed somewhere in April.
@@hatchhermit77im trying to figure out myself too. I know I meed to improve my health. I did one meal today. Im also sick the last days. Have a cold. I also take some vitamins. Low apetite today so only one meal. Gonna fast tomorrow to so ate today around 16.30/17. Gonna fast at least 23 hours tomorrow. Just drinking some coffee (like 2 small cups) Ive tried alot of stuff and nothing is working so I hope less meals daily will help me and mostly low carb too. My sleep has been so terrible lately :/
@@ainahaga Ah, I'm sorry you're struggling. I also drank coffee with heavy cream in the morning as Dr. Berg said it doesn't break fast. But when I was sick, I would eat to help me overcome the sickness. I only did one fast that was longer than my normal intermittent fasting(16-20hrs) and I didn't do well. I don't respond well to long fasts.
I've been doing the Keto program for almost 10 years now and I always wear glasses since I was eighteen years old, last year my eye doctor check my vision and told me that my vision was almost 20/20 on both eyes, now I'm without glasses and I can see clearly. no more glasses .
Amazing! I started eating nothing but carbs and my eyesight is now 20/20. Also my weewee grew 3 inches, I'm 6 inches taller, I can run a 3 minute mile, and women flock to me. All from eating pasta! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I’m glad to see this video because I thought I was crazy but every time I do fasting, my vision gets better. My wife will look at me like I’m crazy but again I’m so happy to see this video now I know I’m not crazy.
yes!!! Its true and its great to hear someone say it, i wasn`t sure. I am finishing my 7th year of fasting M-Friday 9pm-11:45AM. i no longer need reading glasses nor far vision glasses. -15 with astigamatizm. No more at 58 yrs old.
hi i am from greece so sorry for my bad english. i too saw a huge difference to my eyesight by fasting and lately i used 100% castor oil (cold pressed organic, without additives).I get some to my finger and get all my skin up down the eye and the thing when you close your eyes don't know how it is called. I did it for some other benefits but wow in a matter of days i saw my diplopya getting hugely improved.it is not fixed but some momentsbetween the day i am getting almost 100% good eyesight. If i were glasses i see normal but without i see double and not blury.this occured when i started treating my myopia (4.00).i am aboyt 2.50 now but have the double vision.I think myopia is nerve damage like peripheral neuropathy and that's why it benefits from fasting.that is my belief cause i tried many many things for curing my myopia and only fasting worked.now castor oil have properties that benefits nerves and blood vessels so i think it is a must try thing for eye problems.I am just nobody sharing his experience. Not a doctor or anything
Doing IF for almost 2 years. Lost 45 lbs. Was not diabetic but had to get new glasses bc my eye sight improved. My macular degeneration has greatly improved!
I feel truly relieved after watching this video because I used to think I was imagining things. Every time I fast, my vision noticeably improves, but my wife always looks at me as if I’m crazy. Now, after watching this video, I realize I’m not crazy, and that makes me really happy.
64 yr. old here & I was told at 27 years old, when diagnosed with astigmatism, that my eyesight would only decline from then on. Last month I went to my eye doctor & this is the 2nd time that he has told me that my eyesight has improved. I practice OMAD and sometimes fast for 2 days. Now I know why my eyesight has improved. I was surprised because I’ve spent long hours on my phone which I need to quit doing.😑
@@chelly2468no, water leaving our bodies is not pure and has electrolytes in it. Our brains need salt, potassium, and magnesium to function properly. Over time without replacement, we will run out and die. This is not BS
Im 72 and used to be 20 30 and 20 60 and now after a few years int. Fasting im now 20 20 and 20 30 I gave up gluten and upped vitamin c to 2-5,000 mg a day past 3 years. So nice to pass my drivers test without correction which I needed all my life till now. Be patient, the hunger pangs go away after a while. Also drink lots of carrott juice with some fiber for amazing night vision . Also take lutein
I have a 1st cousin--19 months older than me--who was severely diabetic and refused to change her diet or follow the protocol her doctors recommended. She's went blind, lost her renal function, and died. I intermittent fast, follow a ketogenic diet, and my vision is good. I don't need glasses to read, and my eye doctor said my eyes are better than they were 10 years ago...and I'm 67 years old.
"When people are ready to, they change. They never do it before then, and sometimes they die before they get around to it. You can't make them change if they don't want to, just like when they do want to, you can't stop them.” ― Andy Warhol
@mrsmacca126 No. Never. My A1C is 4.1, and I have been hypoglycemic officially since my 20's but I had one experience at 18 where I passed out at the gym for no known reason. Looking back, I think my blood sugar dropped.
@@Ex_877 what gets me is why people dont want to change if it means sorting your health.i think in a lot of cases people just believe the meds will keep them good they can just continue doing what their doing.
I have been intermittent fasting using a primarily 20 hour fast, four hour eating protocol with clean foods and minimal grain for more than seven years. I have had Crohn’s disease for nearly 40 years coupled with multiple surgeries and medications that were never effective for any length of time. Since fasting, I have not needed to go back to the hospital And I have been off all my medication!
I started very low carb IF two months ago and was very surprised to find the almost daily bouts of dry burning and stinging of my eyes to virtually completely disappear after about a month. Thanks for this video!
Evolutionarily, if you have gone without eating for a period of time, your brain gets sharper and unsurprisingly your vision improves to be sure you find that next food source.
Now you’re definitely on to something, Dr. Allen. I believe the mechanism of action for mitigating diabetic retinopathy has to do with, ultimately, insulin resistance. A low carbohydrate/sugar diet such as a ketogenic or carnivore diet are going to ultimately promote insulin sensitivity and make it much easier to successfully do intermittent fasting. There’s a much bigger picture with insulin resistance that we have been missing. Promoting insulin sensitivity is now a regular part of my discussion with patients.
I believe that the development of myopia in children is directly related to eating a high glycemic diet. I grew up in a household where there was very little food. We weren’t poor, but my mother was very depressed due to PTSD from seeing lots of death during WWII. My grandparents got the money together to send my brother and I to boarding school. At boarding school we were immediately exposed to large meals with lots of potatoes, rice, pasta and desserts. Within a few months, I was wearing glasses and my myopia was 20/200. Recently, in my mid 60s I went on the Atkins diet combined with intermittent fasting to lose a few pounds. My vision is now almost normal (around 20/30). Also, my eye doctors over the years were always monitoring the pressure in my eye which they said was high and if it went higher, I would have to start taking eye drops for glaucoma. The pressure in my eye is now normal! The only thing that has changed is my diet - IF and low carb.
@ do you mean to tell me that in a couple of generations, we have gone from myopia being rare to common because of genetics? BTW, I’ve got a bridge in New York to sell to you.
@@CapWalks1 children now spend a great deal of time playing on smart devices and the like as opposed to playing outside. This puts them at risk of developing near-sightedness. If what you is saying is true then all Asian, Italian and Indian children would be wearing glasses.
I'm only one data point, but only one week into 5/19 IF and my eyesight is noticeably better. Thank you for making the video. I also noticed my energy level has improved.
My Eye Doctor notice that cataracts formed from stage 1 to stage 4 in 18 months. Shortly afterwards the eyes went dry. A week later my mouth went dry. She realized that I have Sjögren's syndrome a form of Lupus. I have been intermittent fasting since 2019 to heal gut. But now I have to adjust because I also have Metabolic Syndrome and do not have enough enzymes in my stomach to digest sugar and carbs .I count calories,Protein, sugar and carbs and fast . I can not find any help from the main stream medical field. I live in a tiny town in NC and it is through you and others that have helped me figure out what to do and to get healthy again. Thank You so much. Marie from Eden,NC By the way my skin surgeon confirmed (which I did before my Cancer surgery) that NOT eating any fruit 6 weeks before your cancer surgery helps starve the cancer. My Surgeon notice that the cancer had gotten smaller and calmer then the last exam.
@@nitfitnit it helped with my heartburn. But the best thing that helped for my heartburn was doing keto. It went away and never came back even though I'm hardly doing keto anymore at the moment. I do plan to go back to it though
Please give Carnivore a 90 day trial, and see what happens to your health. So many have reported great improvements on Carnivore. (Being very ill myself, I'm on my second month now, and noticing some improvements already. No more heartburn, no more bleeding gums, almost no more sugar cravings.)
A little off topic, but you mentioned dry-eye. I have had dry-eye for at least the last 10 yrs. I recently started using a red-light mask (for skin care) and I was seriously shocked when after the very first 10 min. treatment my eyes spontaneously started watering. 😮 it seems to get better w every session and lasts well into the next day. Also, I started IF about 2 yrs ago, and did notice that my vision improved noticeably, but my eyes still didn't water until the red-light.
Intermittent fasting has gotten me out of pre-diabetes and I no longer need to use eyes drop that often. My way of fasting is I don’t eat before 7:00am and I stop eating after 7:00pm I consumed mostly good fat and protein (organic meat) and no processed, sugar snack or drink. I stayed hydrate through the day. I tried to get at least 7:00 hours sleep, pray🙏and 15 mins. walk first thing in the morning. Dr.William Li has tons of good information about health and longevity.
Getting off junk food and ultra processed food is more important than any specific diet or fasting regime, in my opinion. Having said that, I generally have a ginger-turmeric shot and bulletproof coffee in the morning with electrolytes to hydrate. Technically this breaks my fast but it’s a modest amount of calories, mostly fat. I then eat two meals within the next 8 hours, low carb but not keto. I have a minor, occasional issue with dry eye but otherwise my eyes are healthy and my eyesight is stable. I take fish oil and other supplements like lutein and zeaxanthin for my eyes. Doing weight training and increasing my protein to build muscle at age 72. No disease, no medication, no jab.
What I find interesting about fast food is that normally, I can't put on any weight, I have to really have to force myself to gain weight and drink liquid calories. However, when I go on vacation and eat more fast food, I notice I easily gain weight and can see it on my stomach. I don't even eat a lot of it, just eating it once a day is enough to do this. What amazes me is all the people who eat fast food daily, or twice a day.
Whenever I go crazy with sweet food, I do a 3 days water fasting & my vision becomes sharp again. Not so much with IF because I tend to do a 20 hour and still have those sweet desserts. So sugar is the culprit for my blurry vision.
When I was diagnosed with T2 my sugars were out of control. They put me on insulin. For a month I had blurry vision as the sugar cleared out of my eyes. Now I eat low carb and fast. My diabetes is gone.. A1c 4.9.. I lost over 30 lbs and even my blood sugars are better. I no longer take any diabetes medications!
I have been documented remarkable vision improvements with my retinitis pigmentosa. Daily intermittent fasting for 18 months prior to going on the carnivore diet did nothing. The food itself and specifically removing plants is key for me.
I have been intermittent fasting for 3 years and have found very many health benefits. My seasonal allergies totally disappeared, which was wonderful as whenever my eyes would swell and I literally could not see. I have narrow angles and these have improved in my eyes. I did have a procedure done to increase the angles and they healthy and clear. My cataracts though mild have lessened as well. I eat healthy and am fat adapted so find it very freeing and easy.
I started intermittent fasting with longer fasts sprinkled throughout in june of 2023. Since then my eyesight/ eye health is definitely much better. I had terrible dry eye constantly and that is resolved. I had such bad floaters that they were distracting! I still have them now but i have to make a point to look for them. Even with my glasses my far off vision was terrible, my eyes just couldnt focus. Now I have no problem seeing far away. My prescription for my glasses has gotten backed down. I definitely dont have 20/20 vision but for me, fasting has made a world of difference.
Intermittent Fasting has been a huge factor in my weight loss and ability to keep it off. Helps manage appetite, opens up a lot more freedom of food choices for meals, and it's really easy to stick to. I'm closing in on nearing 10 years of that process. Best changes I've ever made in my life.
I found that avoiding MSG, all grains (which in the USA are sprayed with glyphosate during harvest) and industrial machine seed oil lubricants ("vegetable oils") and keeping sugar/carbohydrate consumption below 50 grams per day: Has helped my eyesight greatly (age 76) I usually have just one meal a day and no snacks.
@@coltorl Ha ha. :) Cottonseed oil was the 1st industrial lubricant used as "food". Lots of things in US are labeled "food grade" that aren't that good for humans.
I've had great experience from intermittent fasting with the free app Zero. I really appreciate you sharing this valuable information that can help people protect themselves. I did a 67 hour fast over the weekend. On weekdays, I may shorten my eating window to 2 to 6 hours. It's helpful for losing dangerous belly fat, reducing or eliminating inflammation, pain, swelling, plus improving motivation, mood,, and mental clarity, and even improving sleep. It's helped me in all of those ways. I've been doing this often since July 2023. I'll keep it up for as long as I live! Thanks again for sharing this highly valuable health strategy. 🎉
I am a radiologist, and due to my work, I spend long hours staring at a monitor. Could you please recommend your top 5 or top 10 monitors with the best eye protection features? My budget is up to $500.
I can see more clearly with discipline not medicine not only with intermittent fasting but with good nutrition not from processed food and drinks, daily exercise, exposure to sunlight, drinking enough water, fresh air not air-conditioned, self-control, enough rest and trust in God😊
I am carnivore and eat two meals a day and occasionally one meal a day. Im 60 and haven't felt this good in years! I had Lasik at the age of 36, and wore glasses and hard contacts before since the age of 4. My vision is great, even though now I wear reading glasses occasionally.
I I ate way too much on Christmas Day and my eye was becoming blurry. I did a 24 hr fast and now my eyes seem so much better. I’ve had issues with my eyes all my life but I found that every time I fast… it seems to be much better. My doctor tells me to keep doing whatever it is I’m doing !!!
I have benefited by just switching to two meals a day. Earlier i use to have three meals but with just two meals i have decreased by blood glucose levels & it has benefited by Insulin Sensitivity thus improved Overall Health. I had blurry vision then & now i can see much better.
I have been practicing intermittent fasting for over 30 years and definitely don't eat breakfast, worst meal of the day. I am over 70, have perfect eyesight, and don't wear glasses, including sunnies.
That's great, however I think your eyesight is due to your genes. I've worn glasses since age 9. Fasting isn't going to give me perfect vision. You should wear sunglasses, since sun damage is bad. 😊
Great video. I had retinal detachment last year. I believe it was mostly due to elevated blood pressure and blood glucose levels. I am going back to regular intermittent fasting and lowering carbs/ultra processed foods. Definitely going to learn more about mitochondrial health and promoting healthy gut biome.
I've worn glasses since I was 8. A few years back, I did keto, intermittent fasting and OMAD (when possible) for at least 4 years. After learning about what carnivore could do for eyesight, I tried it for 3-4 months. I lost ton of weight, no saggy skin, better mood, less mental fog, all the good stuff, but no change in eyesight. My myopia (-7.00) and astigmatism (-2.75) are still progressing at almost 40 years old. I put on some weight after having my last baby, but for some reason, it's harder for me to get back to keto(vore). I'm currently trying something new, Akkermansia supplement while eating healthy carbs, and it seems to be working so far. I have lost almost all cravings for junk food and get full faster. Weight is something I could drop with some consistency and willpower, but not my glass prescription.
What has helped me to improve my vision is vit A, Lutein with Zeaxanthin and also krill oil (Astaxanthin) supplements. For vitamin A there is a controversy about the dose. For vit A, I do take a low dose(mcg) one day and a normal dose the other day (mg). If I miss my dose of those supplement I can feel the difference in my vision. I am mostly vegetarian but I do have meat now and then in small portions (I am a light eater anyway).
If you are still craving carbs.. then your animal fat to protein ratio is not high enough. Go for at least 60-70% fat…one pound of animal beef protein is approx 115 grams. Much more than half of that should be fat grams, from beef tallow, ghee, egg yolk, butter, lard etc…
@@solutions4tenants141 Going keto is actually easy for me. Craving carbs is not my problem. What makes it hard is the fact that eating different than the rest of my family makes me feel/look left out. And coming from an Asian culture, sharing the food and eating together is deeply meaningful to us. A few years back, kids were smaller and didn't care what I ate. But now, they can see. My goal is not being a size small, it's being metabolically healthy, at least as close as I can. My point in my original comment was that neither keto or carnivore helped me with my vision.
I had many of the eye issues you discussed, dry eye (and all other maladies) definitely disappeared after several years of Carnivore/low carb-no sugar and intermittent fasting. I fast ~18-20 hours/day and then one longer 36-72 hour fast per week as well. I am in my mid-60's now, and pretty sure I would be dead without this lifestyle change.....made a little late, but maybe just-in-time.
I hope you're getting enough protein. It's approx. 1g protein/lb of body weight but as you get older it's closer to 1.5g/lb I think. I'd also suggest resistance training to slow muscle loss because your cap at muscle building lowers as you age.... Food for thought. Congratulations by the way 😄
Hmmm, maybe although it kinda makes sense that if your body feels hungry, then your body would probably try to improve eyesight so you can "catch/find" some food. You'd probably also get some boost in hearing and smell.
Merry xmas Dr...your shows have profoundly improved my eye health ( and my life....) especially the program on demodex mites..among many other of your shows..I thank you with all my heart. Merry xmas to your and your family, be well....thanks again
I have Type II Diabetes and I've largely been on a keto/carnivore diet for a few years now with great success. However, whenever I fall off the wagon and eat some carbs, the clarity of my vision definitely suffers, and the effect lasts for a day or two.
How about a new updated blue blocker glasses review. 10 pair for example. There is soo many bad ones and most has a terrible glare also. Please do one 🤗
I've been enjoying your videos and appreciate you covering topics other professionals don't seem to have knowledge of, or simply don't share with patients presumably assuming this is a conflict of interest for them given they don't generate revenue from things like red light therapy, fasting, etc.
Hi, I'm 63 years old, and 10 years ago I developed long-sightedness which I inherited from my parents. I have been on a keto diet and intermittent fasting for the last five years I eat one meal a day between five and six pm I also take three tablets of vitamin D per day. I had not noticed an improvement in my long-sightedness until recently when I found that if I squint my eyesight is as good as with glasses which is a surprise.
Everytime I'm on a longer fast, after 48-60 hours my eyes and vision become super sharp and my dry eyes basically are no longer dry at all and feel super fresh. I think in my case dry eyes are gut related inflammation.
a conversation style follow-on with @kendberrymd would be good. I was given a prescription for dry eyes drops the same time I found keto (very low carb), intermittent fasting, and walking-not-running to gut fast loss. I never got the eye drops.
If you're curious about the gut to eye connection, you might want to look into the enteric nervous system (ENS. This was a recent discovery. You will find it fascinating. 8:32
An interesting video. I've tried fasting on water whole day, every 2 weeks or so, long time ago. But that was before I had vision problems. One of my eye have a blurry vision and I'm trying to figure out why and how to maybe fix it without surgery or glasses. I'll try fasting again and check if it'll affect it...
Hmm. My dry eye symptoms do seem to correleate with carbs as well, but not as strongly as with specific foods. Garlic is the worst, but onions and shallots are also noticeable, as well as most leafy greens.
@kurtniznik8116. This is so interesting. I can’t go near kale or any alliums like garlic and onions without getting very sore eyes and stomach problems.
I do keto and intermittent fasting. I notice that if i have a cheat day, my vision is blurry the following day. I go hard on my cheat days though. Enough sugar to feed a small country
I've been Carnivore for over 4 months now, and intermittent fasting is very easy because my meals are so much more satisfying. Besides weight loss and overall improvement in physical and mental health, I do look forward to maintaining and/or improving my vision. I've worn glasses since elementary school.
Yes I tried my juice diet and intermittent fasting definitely my eyes will amazing change and vision sight …my eyes were blurry suddenly because definitely it will help
I didn't notice if my vision improved but I did notice I saw natural colors of nature more brightly than before the fast. I did a honey water fast with pollen. I noticed it on my third and last day. I wanted to continue the fast but didn't because I had already planned it. I ended up taking my glasses the next year to an eye doctor because I didn't know my prescription. And he said one of my eyes improved and the other remained the same. I did not associate it with the fast. But I was intrigued because I rarely used my glasses except for at work and I kept being told by Drs all my life since elementary to wear glasses all the time or eyesight would get worse.
After starting the carnivore way of eating my dry eye symptoms went away. (Liquid tears last only about 20 minutes, X… medication helped tremendously) I don’t know if it was the increase in fat or stabilizing my blood sugar, my eyes are much improved
A Dr I respect says glaucoma is caused by glycation which is sugar or fructose attached to proteins. The bottom line is limit sugars and carbs especially from grains. Also the cause of metabolic syndrome. Dementia is now being called T3D. Sugar again is the culprit. Yes I notice blurriness after eating. When I IF vision improves.
I eat within an 8 hour window. I'm also vegetarian but do eat fish on occasion. My weight is in a healthy range for my height. I have dry eye. I use an eye gel at night with eye goggles to hold in moisture. I pay attention to hydration but could do better so I'll put more effort into that. Thank you!
Then you are not a vegetarian. If you eat fish occasionally you are a pescatarian not a vegetarian, even if you only eat it once a year. Do you sleep with googles? If so which one? Found great ones but make horrible marks on my face come morning. Looking for recommendations. My dry eye stems from BAK in my eye drops as well as a burn I got on my eye from cooking oil many years ago. The drops have made it worse.
Very interesting information. I developed a hole in my retina this fall and had to have my eye laserd. Very scary for me, and I am a stage three cancer survivor. This experience scared me more. Your videos help relieve some of my fear and help me understand better how the eye works what might be done to improve conditions, thank you for doing your research and sharing with us. I'm also just over the line as a pre diabetic with A1C of 5.7. overweight and working on losing more weight, keeping BP down. I have found the intermittent fasting does help. Also following a careful diet, low carb, no sugar, alcohol, etc. regular exercise, even regular walking. I suspect that you are on to something with what you have said in this video.
I once water fasted for 7 days. By the 5th day, my eyesight was incredibly sharp. My gum health also improved but I wasn’t as suprised as eye health. It was also rather long lasting after
Mechanism of action for dry eye: consumption of sugar, robs the eyes of water, and people who intermittent fast may develop a reduced desire for sugar. This mixes the results because they may not be controlling for diet, but just for timing of fasting. Reduced demand for sugar may take a couple of weeks or more to change the habits of those eating especially if someone else is cooking for them. (Especially if they live in a cage, like mice.). In humans I would also sort by blood group in order to detect whether or how much genetic differences between them play a part. (Both digestion and immune responses vary by blood type in humans.)
@@DoctorEyeHealthyes thank you as well. It would be interesting if anyone watching your video seen Improvement or even been cured would be willing to come on your Channel and show documentation!

I went on a ten day water fast because after receiving prescription medication for gastritis that did absolutely nothing, and the intense pain I felt every time I ate, I decided I had nothing to lose 😄 after doing a ten day water fast I ofc lost lots of weight but halfway through I noticed my eyesight noticeably improved. I was stunned at how much better my sight was without my glasses. I’m undergoing another fast now, and I’m so glad there’s more research done in this area because I couldn’t find any a few years ago when I first undertook the extensive fast. Thank you for this video! 😊
Hello, I just started watching your videos and I really like them. Thank you so much! I was trying to find a video on eye exercises, eye yoga, or something related to that topic. Could you share your opinion on that as well?😊
There are eye exercises in the form of Vision Therapy that have great evidence to help with certain binocular conditions. They are often prescribed after head/ neck/ and brain injury as well. The exercises help improve the coordination between the eye muscles and the brain and can help with many other visual symptoms. The downside is that some people claim they can “reverse the need for glasses “ with these exercises which is incorrect. Some people do have accommodation spasms or pseudomyopia from constant near accommodation. In those cases, people really just need to learn to relax their eye muscles and that can help them with their symptoms, but doing eye muscles exercises won’t change the size or refractive state of the eyeball.
@@7x779a word of caution. I had surgery earlier this year. First one went fine…second, not good at all. The sac holding my lens disintegrated when the surgeon went to remove my lens. She was able to insert a lens but not the one I had wanted or that was the same as my first eye. Then, two weeks later, I experienced lightening flashes in that eye…and terrible floaters…a big, brown blob that will never go away. It really hampers my vision when I’m tired. I can’t see anything up close without glasses now, which is incredibly frustrating. Before I could bring things up to my face at least. Anyway, if I could do it over, I would try diet and nearly everything else before surgery. Just my experience. Grateful to be able to see at all. Best of luck.
I have done phases of months long to entire years doing extensive IF keto diet over last 7 years. Seeing your video, I will also note changes in my vision/eyes. I am not insulin resistant so effects may be more subtle than what you described. However, I have noticed negatives with my vision in last year+ during which I rarely did intermittent fasting. In last month I’ve been phasing back to IF n keto. This time I’m daily tracking both glucose and ketones in blood with meter since glucose reputedly tends to increase with age. I’ll also note dates when I notice vision changes. My glucose is a little higher than it was 5 years ago n usually ranges 77-98.
IF may have improved my vision, but it made my dry eyes 10x worse. I'm trying to fast for a less amount of hours now, but naturally my body is never hungry. I think I also need to take fish oil with breakfast and dinner to keep eyes hydrated throughout the day.
I eat keto, (4years), my eyes are steady. It does help with general inflammation like osteoarthritis, and asthma. Just remember to drink plenty of water to stay regular.
I’ve intermittent fasted for years. It’s very helpful for controlling weight. More important is thyroid treatment if you are low thyroid, and hormone replacement therapy. Kids and young adults tent to have great hormone levels…and little need to intermittently fast.
Have you ever tried Intermittent fasting or just fasting? What was your experience? Did you notice any changes to your eyesight?

Yes. My eye doctor told me my eyesight had improved. He said he has seen it happen before but it is unusual.
So I went to the eye doctor and my prescription had improved!
nice!
how many meals a day did you do? like 1 meal a day for long time?
@@ainahaga No, I started out eating breakfast around 11am and eating dinner at 5pm. After a month or so breakfast moved to 1pm. During this time I ate no sugar, drank no alcohol, and ate very few carbs and what I did came from vegetables. I did this from about February through early May. I went from 205 to 173. My eyesight changed somewhere in April.

@@ainahaga Ah, I'm sorry you're struggling. I also drank coffee with heavy cream in the morning as Dr. Berg said it doesn't break fast. I've been doing the Keto program for almost 10 years now and I always wear glasses since I was eighteen years old, last year my eye doctor check my vision and told me that my vision was almost 20/20 on both eyes, now I'm without glasses and I can see clearly. no more glasses .

hi i am from greece so sorry for my bad english. i too saw a huge difference to my eyesight by fasting and lately i used 100% castor oil (cold pressed organic, without additives).I get some to my finger and get all my skin up down the eye and the thing when you close your eyes don't know how it is called. I did it for some other benefits but wow in a matter of days i saw my diplopya
getting hugely improved.it is not fixed but some momentsbetween the day i am getting almost 100% good eyesight.
I did a water fast for 64 days a month ago, and it fixed my entire body / complete reconstruction!
Wow. I’m doing a 3 day! Did u use supplements? What happened and how easy was it to digest food after? Well done btw!
Did you fast that long on your own or with professional guidance?

@joannathesinger- are YOU diabetic, though§?
@mrsmacca126 No. Never. My A1C is 4.1, and I have been hypoglycemic officially since my 20's but I had one experience at 18 where I passed out at the gym for no known reason. Looking back, I think my blood sugar dropped.

For me, fasting and Turkey liver made my eyesight so sharp!
I have not noticed any improvement whilst fasting but this gives me hope.
It's not the diet it's genetics and children develop myopia at a certain age.
@ do you mean to tell me that in a couple of generations, we have gone from myopia being rare to common because of genetics? BTW, I’ve got a bridge in New York to sell to you.
@@CapWalks1 mu

A little off topic, but you mentioned dry-eye. I have had dry-eye for at least the last 10 yrs. I recently started using a red-light mask (for skin care) and I was seriously shocked when after the very first 10 min. treatment my eyes spontaneously started watering. 😮 it seems to get better w every session and lasts well into the next day. Also, I started IF about 2 yrs ago, and did notice that my vision improved noticeably, but my eyes still didn't water until the red-light.
This is so interesting! I’ve been doing intermittent fasting for weight loss, but now I’m curious about how it helps with vision. Thanks for sharing!
Intermittent fasting has gotten me out of pre-diabetes and I no longer need to use eyes drop that often.
My way of fasting is I don’t eat before 7:00am and I stop eating after 7:00pm
I consumed mostly good fat and protein (organic meat) and no processed, sugar snack or drink. I stayed hydrate through the day.
I tried to get at least 7:00 hours sleep, pray🙏and 15 mins. walk first thing in the morning.
Dr.William Li has tons of good information about health and longevity.
That isn't fasting, I do that period of time normally from when I go to sleep, until I am up and hungry.
Anecdotally speaking, turmeric increases inflammation so I had to stop taking it
What I find interesting about fast food is that normally, I can't put on any weight, I have to really have to force myself to gain weight and drink liquid calories.
Sugar and carbs are my culprits for just about everything.
So I'm on my second month of Carnivore now, and cravings are almost gone.
Makes sense, since eye health is so susceptible to insulin resistance.
What procedure did you have to assist the angles please?

What does a typical day of (not) eating look like for you?
I found that avoiding MSG, all grains (which in the USA are sprayed with glyphosate during harvest) and industrial machine seed oil lubricants ("vegetable oils") and keeping sugar/carbohydrate consumption below 50 grams per day: Has helped my eyesight greatly (age 76) I usually have just one meal a day and no snacks.

Very cool! Happy to hear that. Did you make that change because of fasting recommendations or you just found that on your own?
I have been practicing intermittent fasting for over 30 years and definitely don't eat breakfast, worst meal of the day. I am over 70, have perfect eyesight, and don't wear glasses, including sunnies.
Breakfast can be eaten but the content matters. Some people are hungry then skip lunch or eat lunch and skip dinner.
That's great, however I think your eyesight is due to your genes. I've worn glasses since age 9. Fasting isn't going to give me perfect vision. You should wear sunglasses, since sun damage is bad. 😊
Thank you so much for your work. I look forward to your food series!
Yes love it !! U rock ..don’t just do an exam and send them away for two years. Educate educate educate 🙌
My blepharitis got better eating keto and intermittent fasting. So my dry eyes got better, too. Not completely gone, but much better.
If you have dry eye syndrome, take Magnesium Glycinate powder. It works.

Everytime I'm on a longer fast, after 48-60 hours my eyes and vision become super sharp and my dry eyes basically are no longer dry at all and feel super fresh. I think in my case dry eyes are gut related inflammation.

No sugar!!!
I've been Carnivore for over 4 months now, and intermittent fasting is very easy because my meals are so much more satisfying. Besides weight loss and overall improvement in physical and mental health, I do look forward to maintaining and/or improving my vision. I've worn glasses since elementary school.
Hello doctor! Thanks for the information.
This is so fascinating 🙂
16/8 intermittent fasting has cured my chronic episcleritis!
After starting the carnivore way of eating my dry eye symptoms went away. (Liquid tears last only about 20 minutes, X… medication helped tremendously) I don’t know if it was the increase in fat or stabilizing my blood sugar, my eyes are much improved
Can you direct me to the diet you use? I’d like to try it🙏
A Dr I respect says glaucoma is caused by glycation which is sugar or fructose attached to proteins.
How about giving Carnivore a 90 day trial?
This is very, very interesting, thankyou.
Thank you!
Of course! thanks for watching!
My retina doctor said that my “pucker scarring has improved which is unusual “
I do keto carnivore and have done some intermittent fasting
So glad you are covering this!
Thank you! Yeah this has been an interesting thing to research!
@@DoctorEyeHealthyes thank you as well. It would be interesting if anyone watching your video seen Improvement or even been cured would be willing to come on your Channel and show documentation!
I enjoyed this, both your comments and the readers' comments. A number of them are highly sceptic. Thank you for indicating your sources, where perhaps they should aim their arrows.
Severely nearsighted for 60 years but now my vision is 20/20. How? Cataract surgery and prescription lens implants.
Lol Love that! Yeah the technology for cataract surgery is pretty amazing.
Which type of surgery and implants did you get? I'm considering it
@@7x779a word of caution.
@@everysingleone8714 thank you so much for your response and experience ❤️ 🙏 😊
@@everysingleone8714flashes can mean retinal detachment. You should have that checked
How are we defining intermittent fasting? one meal a day or not eating for the whole day?
Thanks for sharing this great information.
I often had eye strain because of work on computer
Since 3 years I practice Intermittent Fasting (16-8) and the eye strain have disappeared
I’ve intermittent fasted for years. It’s very helpful for controlling weight. More important is thyroid treatment if you are low thyroid, and hormone replacement therapy. Kids and young adults tent to have great hormone levels…and little need to intermittently fast.
Berberine and intermittent fasting fixed my gut, which fixed my dry eyes.
