My mom loved this song. Most of my memories from the back seat of the station wagon are accompanied by either Sinead or Stevie Nicks cassettes in the tape deck. I knew she spent much of her life heartbroken, but this song certainly puts it in perspective. Reminds me of how, year after year on my father's birthday, she'd make his favorite meal and cake. By much later that night, I'd be cuddling her on the couch as she cried, because he'd be off with some other woman instead.
The fact that she remains the only artist to refuse a Grammy award til date is honestly empowering. She stated that music was supposed to help people and not to draw attention to the artist. I worked with Sinead on a radio broadcast in 1991. She was quietly fierce, unashamedly challenging and perfectly imperfect as an interviewee.....and just breathtakingly beautiful! The resulting programme and the photo we took at the end of the night with Sinead and our crew both showed that she was an incredible artist, disrupter and woman. I remember being in my sophomore year of high school, and picking up a CD of an unknown artist named Sinead O’Connor. I stared at the CD case for so many hours. Her eyes were hypnotic and was a classic, natural, beauty. Yet, she as punk rock and rebellious as they come. I had never heard anything like her, and I thought she was so talented with a powerful voice, and even more powerful lyrics. She did not fit the pop princess type and certainly never tried to be that. She often spoke about injustices and was marked for it. Consequently, record labels did not want to represent her. I admired her tenacity in the causes that were important to her. She was one of the few people that were so outspoken to talk about all the sexual abuse within the Catholic Church. I was so incredibly sad to hear of her passing. She had many struggles throughout her life, especially losing her beloved son, Shane last year. I’m afraid that she never was able to get over that. Rest in peace beautiful Sinead. I hope you and Shane are together now ❤

Prince didn't write this song for her. He wrote it and recorded it with a group known as The Family in 1985. Sinéad later covered it for her sophomore album. Sinéad's version was spectacular. She sang it so beautifully. I think most people will remember Sinéad's version better. She really made it her own with her magic and voice. May she RIP 🙏❤️

This song always brings tears to my eyes. Sinead will be sadly missed by all of us, truly a great loss to the world.
I remember being in my sophomore year of high school, and picking up a CD of an unknown artist named Sinead O’Connor. I stared at the CD case for so many hours. Her eyes were hypnotic and was a classic, natural, beauty. Yet, she as punk rock and rebellious as they come. I had never heard anything like her, and I thought she was so talented with a powerful voice, and even more powerful lyrics. She did not fit the pop princess type and certainly never tried to be that. She often spoke about injustices and was marked for it. Consequently, record labels did not want to represent her. I admired her tenacity in the causes that were important to her. She was one of the few people that were so outspoken to talk about all the sexual abuse within the Catholic Church. I was so incredibly sad to hear of her passing. She had many struggles throughout her life, especially losing her beloved son, Shane last year. I’m afraid that she never was able to get over that. Rest in peace beautiful Sinead. I hope you and Shane are together now ❤
