@@PlebNC I've watched someone play Assassin's Creed on ketamine, when I say play he kept spinning in circles and falling off buildings. He did fall near the objective marker now and again but only to be absolutely gang raped by the enemies nearby as he stood or laid there defenseless.
To my knowledge, this is the only modern fiction that integrates the modern misinterpretation of "1984" with the original point of the novel. Most people these days think it was meant to be about surveillance. They don't realize it was more about language. So much so that Orwell particularly despised the term "Orwellian" because it was a perfect example of what he was trying to warn against doing when it comes to language.
Well, yes and no, Orwell obviously thought that things like Uber authoritarian governments and that states that spy on their citizens to such an extent are pretty bad. However, that wasn’t his main message. His main message was that it any sort of rebellion already lost. The citizens already speak Newspeak (which is a very simplified language designed to limit how much one can think for themselves and spread any, “dangerous”, ideas). They already lost, they couldn’t win from the beginning, the game was rigged from the start. That is the point of the book, the party already won by basically guaranteeing that any possible rebellion is going to be a few people that won’t even hold those, “dangerous ideas”, for a while and might only be able to share them with a few others. That is the party’s power, not knowing what you are doing 24/7.
The common misuse of "Orwellian" is one of my biggest pet peeves. It's usually clear that anytime it's used the person hasn't read the book since high school and they're just using it because they heard someone else use it to describe surveillance/big tech/censorship etc.

I understand the thaught however implementing the feature would be admitibly difficult due to the nature of the cutscenes themselves. All tended in real time on engine. The game would need to load up an entire stage, populate and call in the nesicary npcs, decide on a lighting and time of day, (normal stuff that is all already loaded by the time players trigger the cutscenes). It would be resource heavy for computers and I can see it being hard to implement. The alternative is having prerecorded cutscenes being stored locally, however that would increase disk space and the recording would have to be of a certain quality to match the real time renders, if that is even possible in itself.
The fact that it's virtually impossible to legit do this on PC because there are too many players is fucking depressing, but then again I guess that's kind of the point? I find it interesting Tretji Rebenok loses himself in his hosts and carries out *their* will spurned on by their hate. Psycho Mantis said his first psychic experience was from his father, sensing his hate for his own son. He *then* goes onto burn down his town. Was that Mantis? Or his father?
i just love how this is all the basis for liquid ocelot brainwashing himself in MGS 4. he learned it all here / carried it all out here first as a trial. (obviously correct me if i'm wrong my memory is soooo bad due to all the ketamine)
19:10 it's not ishmael that we see die, it's just someone with the same clothes and bandages. When the camera is turning, you can actually spot Ishmael standing inside the room next to you.
I think everything up to the chopper crash happened. However I think the TPP all happened in a ketamine-induced hypnogogic dream, where he was fed with suggestions which produced vivid dreams. The goal of Zero was to make a new mental copy of snake, which is why the events of the TPP mirrors significant events in Big Bosses life; the broken arm, being left for dead, creation of a a private military, and many more. The tapes are people around his hospital bed speaking.
Those ''pigs'' under the statue, of which I'm guessing there's four, look a lot more like foxes than pigs to me. Look at those two on the side view, the length and size of the snout is like no pig i've ever seen. Something about it with the horse rearing up above the foxes (if that's what they are) makes me think of a foxhunt, only thing missing is the foxhound. This is my first time really 'seeing' them since this video brought them to my attention, so i'm not certain, I can see the pig in the one facing forward.
I cant wait for your interpretation of mgs2 video review. I know you cant do every thing of one game. But what you told us is very insightful that were just waiting to be cracked open and expand the field of this series.
Something I've never heard brought up is the way Skull Face talks to BB on the heliport in the cut scene before the Skull Face Jeep monologue, where his voice affects Venom's vision. To me, it's very reminiscent of the way Gene in Portable Ops has a voice with special abilities as part of the Successor Program (it's just the Weirding Way from Dune IMO). And in the final battle with Gene, what is one of the side effects of Gene's voice: colors begin to fade and change briefly, not unlike MGSV really. You have to figure as the head of XOF, Skull Face would have had access to technology left over from the Successor Program, esp when you consider the fact that Gene gives BB the assets for his "Army's Heaven" and I imagine the technology that created those powers would be one of the first things Gene would take before launching his insurrection; Gene gives BB the assets and BB almost certainly gave them to Zero after the San Hieronymo Peninsula uprising. After all, what's better than a commander with uncanny speed and psychic powers? A whole unit of soldiers with that power, of course. The super speed Gene shows in PO reminds me of the way the Skulls/Quiet can move faster than the eye can see, their super speed. Or maybe I'm just reading into it? You don't mention PO too often in your analysis, so I'm assuming you don't take it into consideration when writing analysis, but I think if you compare the heliport scene in MGSV and the final battle with Gene in PO you'll see some similarities.
Btw word Lager is also a Russian word Лагерь, which means camp. Considering he used to be in GRU, he may be using Russian words in this case since he's talking about Miller imprisoned by Soviet Army. So, you know.
An element of the penultimate cinematic with Revolver Ocelot and the "real" Big Boss that interests me, is that it appears TPP uses the same character model from GZ for the "real" Big Boss (please correct me if I am wrong on this point). This could be interpreted as symbolising how the "real" Big Boss has been protected from the effects of the previous nine years - owing to his "phantom". Furthermore, the number "9" is significant from a religious perspective, as it has associations with "completeness" and "finality" in multiple world religions, perhaps symbolising the ouroboros you mention. Apologies if either of these two points have already been discussed. Thanks for another video, Boss!
The staggered entry of XOF at the hospital is quite logical, the first strike sent in didn't work (might've seen her falling out of the window on fire), as such the big bad big boss is more dangerous after his coma than they hoped, as such team B is activated, a more lethal approach to eliminate everyone in the hospital and you would've killed snake too, with the man on fire sent in aswell, (probably not completely under Skullface's control yet) it just becomes a giant fustercluck, Ishmael and Ahab blowing through atleast two mechanized platoons is telling enough.
2:38 I've posted this on another video, but during this cutscene with Skull Face, for whatever reason you can still access your cassette player and play any tape in the game over his speech. This is the only scene in the game like this to my knowledge, most of the others restrict your access to the tape player. This strikes me as an odd design choice, it would have had to be done deliberately due to the fact the game uses the same method of removing control from the player as the instances where you cannot use tapes as well.
I really dig how Jacob's Ladder-esque MGSV is. It feels far less straight forward than JL, but its also ridiculously dense with lore and series meta. Fortunately the Ladder never got a sequel but for Kojima to expand the series the way he and his team have over the years is crazy impressive. Even if I didn't like the approach I'd respect how Joycean this game specifically is; at any given moment a scene or detail will also have countless connections and what may seem to be potential synchronicities. Initially I liked MGSV as a kind of 'punk rock' game. The format was in bite size chunks that felt all over the place and the drastic change to the series format (codec dialogue/brief but open gameplay/lengthy cut scene/repeat) felt like an intentional response to critics. I was also one of the many who had only a shaky grip on what was "actually happening" story wise, but like Never Mind the Bollocks (which, to be fair, was less impenetrable), it ages beautifully. We were set up to receive a game that connected to the beginning of the series but none of us were expecting such a significant shift in storytelling and texture and it understandably frustrated a lot of people. Some people felt played...like a damned fiddle, even. But that's part of the story itself. Also a handy metaphor for the weird relationship between gamer and avatar. It's wild how Kojima understands and communicates what I guess you could call a variation on "(maybe 'post'?)modernism". Between the endlessly layered angles of how meta and connective and concurrently dissociative this one is and that terrifying scene in MGS2 that predicted the information nightmare we're learning to navigate, he keeps knocking them outta the proverbial park. I did not finish Death Stranding tho....did you? Thanks for the essay(s) bro.
If I had to take a guess, I think the XOF raid into the hospital was Plan B. Plan A was for Quiet to just go in, kill Big Boss and everyone else in the room and then leave. But when she flew out of the window on fire, they went ahead with the full raid. Also, Ishmael is very much an oddity. I'm fairly certain the hospital staff and other patients react to him, but aside from that one time he says he's going to make a distraction and jumps off the stairs the XOF forces never react to him, and even then only one person went to look at where he jumped to.
The idea at the beginning where the patriots use control by using language, and how certain words or phrases makes the unconscious act upon hearing them. It reminded a lot of Bioshock when the main character unknowingly followed orders by the antagonist any time the phrase 'would you kindly' was said. Add to that how you said in mgsv skullface and cipher mightve been doing the same thing with our main character big boss as venom snake. Its a theory that because of Bioshock I can get behind, and that it may play a role here in mgsv.
I don’t know if this means anything but if hide with Ishmael where the beds are he and Snake will move in sync to hide from the guards but then again this could be my own brain tricking me into finding signs on if Ishmael actually exist or doesn’t. It’s fascinating to see how V is truly a MGS game but how much it does it on a psychological level and how no matter if you believe Venom to be his own character or not I love that we can see parts of Big Boss’ mind even the morality in a sense. Wonderful video as always I can’t wait for more
Holy shit, I never noticed how Psycho Mantis changes a little bit every time he links with someone. I only noticed when his mask changed to the mgs1 styled mask during Skullface cutscene
When mantis shows up with Venom's horn, it seems to imply that Venom is controlling him in the moments where Volgin isn't. I also thing Venom creates the distraction that prevents him from being caught during the sequence when he and Ishmael crawl under the hospital bed; he looks forward with a blank face and the noise occurs.
I also felt it was inconsistent when Ishmael (bandage face man) when he distracted the guards and jumped out of stairs. He just disappeared when guards check on him. Hell his ambulance crash was way more ambiguous when Ishmael was not in driving seat.(which was later explained)
A point to note is that Ocelot tells V that he knows him. Where as the real BB always knew Ocelot since mgs3 and won't need introduction. But to reinforce the installed memories of V, ocelot had to be sure

These videos are amazing. A lot of neat things I never noticed like the helicopter shot down by Volgin later showing up in the lobby.
loved the first video, can't wait
your channel is great !
34:56
Commitment to the max. It didn't need to be the exact same bike, any Triumph would invoke EVA in our memories, but they went a step adhead
I've literally just discovered this video and is absolutely amazing. Genuinely made me think so differently about this game after its been 9 years.
Great analysis my friend.
This game is one of the best games of all time. The gameplay is nothing but perfect 👌
That one dislike must be huey
So true
i just love how this is all the basis for liquid ocelot brainwashing himself in MGS 4. he learned it all here / carried it all out here first as a trial.
These videos are top shelf man. Thanks.
At 29:46 the reverse image of the boss is a symbol for as above, so below.
Agreed.
In this scenario, I'd say Volgin is the foxhound. Until he is thrown off the scent and goes after Vernom instead of Big Boss.
@@AvianSavara Yes dude if the metaphor holds up I think you might be right!
7:20 ALSO the doc said bandages aren't because you need them but because they hide you.
I cant wait for your interpretation of mgs2 video review. I know you cant do every thing of one game. But what you told us is very insightful that were just waiting to be cracked open and expand the field of this series.
I like how half of Cyprus basically just got blown to shit by military people, a fire guy and a literal whale, and it’s never brought up again
And the whale wasnt real
Great content man. I would have never even thought of all these things
Love that the most frequent ads I get on this series is Duolingo
Overthinking is a hell of a drug!
Venom snake had a dislocated elbow. With dislocations, the pain is much worse when the joint is set back into its socket.
There are clues that indicate that Ishmael was purely a manifestation of Venom's strength and inner will.
Shining lights even in death
We live and die by your order boss😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
When men cried
The staggered entry of XOF at the hospital is quite logical, the first strike sent in didn't work (might've seen her falling out of the window on fire), as such the big bad big boss is more dangerous after his coma than they hoped, as such team B is activated, a more lethal approach to eliminate everyone in the hospital and you would've killed snake too, with the man on fire sent in aswell, (probably not completely under Skullface's control yet) it just becomes a giant fustercluck, Ishmael and Ahab blowing through atleast two mechanized platoons is telling enough.
The revelation that Huey invented Vaping I think was the most important takeaway of this
2:38 I've posted this on another video, but during this cutscene with Skull Face, for whatever reason you can still access your cassette player and play any tape in the game over his speech. This is the only scene in the game like this to my knowledge, most of the others restrict your access to the tape player. This strikes me as an odd design choice, it would have had to be done deliberately due to the fact the game uses the same method of removing control from the player as the instances where you cannot use tapes as well.
the transition at 1:51 is so funny to me for some reason. don't smoke kids
When you think about it PMCs are basically the club football version of when nation states going to war.
Kojima should reward you with milk and honey for making analysis like this to help his fans understand his convoluted yet brilliant stories. Thank you
I don’t know if this means anything but if hide with Ishmael where the beds are he and Snake will move in sync to hide from the guards but then again this could be my own brain tricking me into finding signs on if Ishmael actually exist or doesn’t. It’s fascinating to see how V is truly a MGS game but how much it does it on a psychological level and how no matter if you believe Venom to be his own character or not I love that we can see parts of Big Boss’ mind even the morality in a sense. Wonderful video as always I can’t wait for more
Love the fact that Huey invented vapes lol
Holy shit, I never noticed how Psycho Mantis changes a little bit every time he links with someone. I only noticed when his mask changed to the mgs1 styled mask during Skullface cutscene
Always insightful with your MGS stuff.
the subtitles said "lager" is there any reason to believe he meant anything more than going to get a beer?
He's had drrrrrink rrrrrrresistance trrraining....
These videos are the perfect mixture of grasping at straws and solid exploration of mgsv
I also felt it was inconsistent when Ishmael (bandage face man) when he distracted the guards and jumped out of stairs. He just disappeared when guards check on him.
Hell his ambulance crash was way more ambiguous when Ishmael was not in driving seat.(which was later explained)
Just performed hypnogogia on myself by taking a nap to this video and the hospital one. I could hear this video in parts of my dream.
We shall watch your videos with great interest ✌
A point to note is that Ocelot tells V that he knows him. Where as the real BB always knew Ocelot since mgs3 and won't need introduction. But to reinforce the installed memories of V, ocelot had to be sure
This channel is fire! Amazing analysis boss
