    Yo Wisecrack! Surely you're all as excited for Rick and Morty to be back in our lives as we are! This is our first time trying a 'quick response' type format, where we dive into our analysis of awesome new stuff, but way faster. Let us know what you think! Send us your thoughts, ideas, suggestions, car keys, whatever.

      This breakdown was awesome! I really like that you were able to respond quickly to the latest episode. I wish you might have touched on the robot versions of Rick, Morty, and Summer. I'd love to hear what you have to say about robot-morty realizing his humanity before being reset. Or Rick suggesting Beth cry 15 percent less. Anywho, thanks for another awesome video!

    I used to be in the Navy. And I remember how the older guys would speak about the difference that's felt when there's a war going on, and when there isn't. How, when there's purpose for what we're doing, all servicemen and women come together for a cause. But when there's not, there's all that bickering of a monotonous lives we live. Hurry up and wait. Look that phrase up, that explains how boring the military can be when there's nothing to do. And we're all trained to do something important, supposedly. But when there's no fighting, there's a lot of just everyone lashing at each other over meaningless nonsense, like no shave chits, and uniform creases, and how shiny we can get our boots to look. I used to work on Tomcat jets, and I can't tell you how boring it is when all we're doing is wiping them down all day long to make them look clean on the ship, so other squadron's can take notice, so our squadron can get a Battle E, just for having clean jets. Clean jets! Yeah, I know exactly what you're speaking of when you speak about the difference of being part of a purpose, and when not. There's this movie called Jarhead, that I really like. And what I like about is its a movie all about that whole "hurry up and wait" mentality that exist in the military. And how boring it is. A lot of people didn't like Jarheads because there was no action going on. Nothing but training, and training, and more training in remote locals in the world. Well, even though a lot of people didn't like that movie, I know us service people did, since, THAT'S THE MILITARY, in a nutshell. Exactly how it feels like being prepared to go to war, but not going to war, and then having everyone turn on each other for frivolous nothing reasons.

Most if us would wind up as walkers if we were in The Walking Dead, presuming our fuck up left enough of us to reanimate. Most of us would end up as one of those random skeletons you see as set dressing in Fallout. We are Jerry.

      Yeah, I'm pretty sure 19th century Russian serfs, French peasants during the ancien regime, slaves in the US south or the indigenous inhabitants of the Congo free state, would be envious of the daily grind of modern westerners. Civilisation isn't all it is cracked up to be, but modern westerners have it very good by the standards of human civilisation.

      Happiness is indeed relative not absolute, but once we accept that idea fully the idea of progress becomes meaningless. If people's happiness is solely down to biochemical reactions in the Brain, not external stimuli, then why do anything besides taking various types of narcotics? Does that mean that Mandela was wasting his time fighting apartheid? What about the chartists and suffragists/suffragettes? The abolitionist movement? Independence struggles? The Feminist movement?

    I'm surprised that he didn't bring up when Robot Morty starts ranting about wanting to live and experience life. not just having ice cream sliding down his throat but eating it actually experiencing it to its fullest. which actually sort of describes how monotonous and dull our modern lives have become that we just lay around dealing with whatever shit is thrown at us and not taking risks and actually LIVING life

      ye better just be exploited by those that are already rich and mighty instead of being "exploited" by those that cant or wont work for any reason. and by the way: the absolute majority of people still want to work even when given a choice to stop. numerous studies have shown this before. capitalism is not sustainable unless you create more and more artificial industries which is already done with the banking industry and ofc the war industry. capitalism is failing many people every single day since many hundreds of years and people go and say no form of socialism can ever lead to a better life simply because specific forms of socialism (in most cases even in a dictatorship) did not work in the past. and no capitalism is not the root of all evil... greed is! capitalism is just a symptom ^^

    • @pascalausensi9592
      @pascalausensi9592 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      "capitalism is just a symptom (of greed)" yeah... that´s one of the most important features of Classical Liberalism, which not only accepts and embraces human defects, for example greed, but creates a system of incentives that make them become a force that helps society by creating new inventions, building advanced infrastructure, investing in science and other wonderful things that improve the quality of life of everyone, in contrast to communism which believes greed is created by a capitalist society and thinks that once such system is abolished a New Man without envy or ambition will be (re)created...

    • @pascalausensi9592
      @pascalausensi9592 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      "artificial industries (...) the banking industry and ofc the war industry" What is your definition of "artificial industries"?. The War Industry has a clear purpose: supply the always existing demand for tools of war, you can consider that immoral and I wouldn't disagree but the War Industry did not create war, I would say that is as old as Society if not older, so it is as natural as the industry gets. The same happens with banking, while they have other functions (i think) they primarily exist because of two:
      1- people need a place to safely store their money (supplying an existing demand),
      2- people need capital or money now at the expense of their future earnings to start a business or afford an object they either need or desire ( supplying an existing demand).
      "no form of socialism can ever lead to a better life" as long as it only reforms capitalism, instead of abolishing it, Democratic Socialism is a good example(fun fact: Article 14 of the UDHR guarantees the right to own property)
      "simply because specific forms of socialism (in most cases even in a dictatorship) did not work in the past" So we should just ignore all the empirical evidence that says socialism doesn't work in an industrial society because every time humanity has tried it, it wasn't the correct form of socialism? Please, enlight me, what is the one and true socialist way, you may select it from this list at will. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Types_of_socialism. Remeber it can't coexist with the evil ways of capitalism or end in a dictatorship when it has been put into practice.

    Totally dug the format of the new quick-release video. It's great to be able to hear the analysis so quickly after the episode's release. P.S. I freakin' love everything you dudes do. I'm a junior in high school, and your videos about South Park, and how the show tackles the diminishing returns of empty profanity and the ineffectiveness of PC helped me write my English final essay on censorship. You're actually one of my cited sources on that paper. Your video on the philosophy of the Joker also helped me with a separate essay, wherein I argued that Iago, the Shakespearean villain from Othello, is a psychopath, and that's why he does the heinous things he does. The Joker and Iago are frighteningly similar characters. And anything you've ever released about Rick & Morty has only deepened my absolute love for the show. So thank you. Seriously. You guys rock.

    I loved this episode! So happy Wisecrack is here to help me frame my ideas and impressions about the potent and captivating television program known as Rick and Morty. I especially appreciated the Jerry analysis and all the commentary pertaining to the trappings and consequences of modern society. I relate far too much to the inert, indecisive, pathetic and weak lump of molecules that is Jerry, and the whole "an apocalypse would reveal in you the man that you know you could be" concept speaks to me on a spiritual level. Since I'm not smart enough to turn myself into a pickle, I gotta grind and reclaim my agency some other way. Anyway...again, love this channel, love this show, keep doing what you do! hey guys love the episode, and the new podcast. After watching episode 4 I think I noticed that if you pull back and look at the season as a whole there seems to be a twisted take on a theme about caring. For instance in Rickshank redemption in the scene with the standoff where summer is held hostage, Rick is accused of being a rouge because he cares about his grandchildren. Later he states he only cares about the damn dipping sauce and not his dead wife and child (which he says was made up). IN Episode 2 we see the Death Stalkers who supposedly care about nothing, willing to kill to reclaim the glowing rock dispite not knowing anything about the power it holds. We see Hemorrhage caring about looking cool with his helmet, Morty caring about venting his fustrations via his muscle arm, and rick caring only about what he can get from the green glowing rock. in episode 3 we see the embassy workers using the only thing Jaguar cares about (his daughter) to twist his arm into battling Rick. In episode 4we are teased that Rick might care for Morty, when in reality its Newp Newp, and we see Morty caring about the vindicators, missing their second adventure, and subsequently caring less and less as he witnesses each one dying in the saw maze. would love to hear your thoughts on this in the next podcast/video.

    (First, I actually think Jerry only got those promotions because the federation thought he turned Rick in, but that's unrelated)
    I think another lesson like this we see through the show is how even starting a family can easily crush somebody. We hear Rick's rant about love and how it ends with you being trapped in an unhappy marriage, (telling Morty to focus on science, which from a nihilistic standpoint is one of the only professions that would make you mean anything in life) and we see in the show how getting an abortion got Jerry a spot in the high life, acting, sleeping with beautiful women, and taking lots of drugs, with Beth landing her dream job and getting a house full of exotic birds and books. On top of that, in the Rick and Morty comic series we see doofus Rick's universe, where he never had kids, and see that not only has Rick used science for good (Commenting casually that he's cured cancer, etc.) but that without Beth ever even existing Jerry's become a professional businessman and gained a confident attitude, owning countless businesses, being the richest man alive, and literally owning dictionaries that have his photo put in place of the definition for "Success."

      This episode wasn't really SJW in the slightest. Unless I didn't know already, I wouldn't be able to tell the episode was written by a woman. It's still classic Rick and Morty nihilism and existentialism.

    • @ministerkarloff726
      @ministerkarloff726 7 ปีที่แล้ว +44

      Honestly isn't complaining about SJW bullshit just another recreational triviality that's embedded itself into modern society? Say for instance the same as complaining about recycling. In itself it's just complaints inside of complaints.

      I have absolutely no problem with female writers just hope they don't stuff a shit ton of feminist shit in it. Keep the variety of topics going.
      Also this episode wasn't really funny. Hoping they do better.

    Please do a multi-episode look at Madmen. That show has profoundly paralleled the trivialities, struggles, and concerns of society today (only difference is that it's in the late 60s). Throughout the whole show, each character represents a different perspective on life and their exploration to find meaning.
    If Wisecrack really took the time to analyze the show, you could make something significant in helping the new generation find meaning in the "soul-crushing" modern world.

      Skeith This season got darker... But not because of the joy of violence like Family Guy; it was that the kids overcame their family's problems in such an immature way.

    Awesome video, just as much in-depth analysis as a full show! I loved this episode but did have a problem with how on-the-nose the dialogue was with connecting their handling on the divorce to their situation, didn't feel subtle enough... but at least they had this extra layer of society anarchism that wasn't so blunt. Can't wait for the next episode Wisecrack!

    Hey, hey, hey, I think the Philosophy of the Pickle Rick episode needs to be done next, because there were so many obscure hints dropped here and there that seemed like metaphors. There was a lot about eating shit*taki mushrooms*, the Russian myth of the Pickle Man, and everything the therapist said, *which was incredible*. I mean, this is a show basically about the fact that our lives are meaningless and the universe doesn't care. That is depressing shit*taki mushrooms*. And the therapist made it ok. Which blew my mind. I also loved the different reactions of Summer and Morty, and Rick and Beth. It was like Summer and Morty wanted to find meaning in their lives again, because the whole nihilism shtick destroyed their family, but Beth and Rick had already accepted that and didn't want to change; so they ignored Summer and Morty at the end. But still, I think those two made a breakthrough too. They just showed it differently.
    *Wait.*
    Maybe the shit is a metaphor for the interdimensional shit Rick's family is eating, so that's why they went to the therapist. In a way, everyone eats their own kind of mental shit.
    *TAKI MUSHROOMS!!!!*
    All therapists are plumbers.

    Yes. It is soul-crushing.
    I swear, part of me is looking forward to a time in the future where I may have to live in the wilderness and won’t have worry about petty bullshit anymore.
    Like, I really do wish there were a singular way of living that everyone can be okay with.

    This brings another theme to me : It's the question asking, "Has humanity gotten a lot happier compared to history?" Surely, we're happier when we don't have to be constantly on high alert to survive in the savannah or be a peasant worrying about famine but how much is humanity happier to an extent or in what areas? It seems to create the idea - that even as society develops technologically and culturally, do we actually develop in the direction of happiness? Is modern life problems just replacing the problems of the past?
    It seems to show it with Rick : A scientist who gets to experience the wonders of the universe and do whatever he wants with the power of his intelligence yet is endlessly bored with his life. If science invents something like the ability to live a 1000 years in the far future, does it mean they're actually happy? It signals what it might have to do with modern life. We are forced to work meaninglessly to buy more things we don't need. Just like how technological and cultural advancements can keep creating things that don't give us what we want most in life : happiness.
