    I think Morty is the center between those two poles and the moral backbone of the show. He's losing his innocent child like perspective of perfect good and perfect evil, but as it was shown in pickle Rick, he seems to be the only one willing to put in the "work" of a meaningful life. I'm the most excited to see Morty's development throughout the rest of the season.

      I know! We can see that he's not the same as ss1 and 2, now that he's not "innocent" anymore and has to bear some burdens

      I agree with this. I think Morty is pretty underappreciated generally, which to me is pretty reflective of human intellectualism. While Rick and philosophers run themselves into nihilistic ruts with no solution, Morty and people who lack interest in fully understanding nihilism are their foils by acting despite nihilists telling them there's no point. I use this example a lot: theoretically, you could try to close a door forever and never actually close it if you infinitely halve the distance the door moves each time. In the physical world, however, this just isn't possible, and it's a total waste of energy trying to. You can logic any meaning out of anything and humanity will always and forever act oppisite of your logic, simply because not doing so causes cognitive dissonance. That human impulse is literally something you have no control over, and people like Morty simply accept it and live with the meaning they have assigned to their life, because why live at all if there is no point. As such, I think Morty will have a huge roll to play in Rick's arc and vice versa.

      Or maybe Rick and Morty is just supposed to be a black comedy that people are taking too seriously, also there are no good arguments for nihilism that is what the show is mocking. Rick is shown praying to God in the season 2 premiere when his life is on the line.

      Well, to quote the Mob Psycho 100 theme: "Do you need to feel special to be ok?"
      I mean, there's this underlying assumption that uniqueness is inherently good and leads to a more satisfying existence than sharing some kind of quality with another person

    I actually like how this season morty does not seem to be getting that disillusioned with the world...but instead fed up with what Rick tells him about the world...i mean he is just getting tired of listening to the same nihilist shit over and over again...i think he already gets it...he just does not care...also he is getting dangerously smart

    This is just a small thing I picked up on in the Vindicators 3: The Return of Worldender. If its already been said sorry! When they go defuse the bomb and Rick asks him about it and Morty says too many. Remember in the Pilot ep that it was a drunk Rick who passed out and the same type of bomb was made. So maybe thats the start of Morty getting practice.

    Super Nova: "It's like you said, Morty, There is no right or wrong."

    Could Evil Morty (from Close Rick-Counters of the Rick Kind) be the one she was talking about there?

      He did say that Rick destroyed the lines between the villains and heroes. It's not a stretch Nova would intepret that as Morty saying there is no good or evil. Which is not what he said, nor what he believes

    Some people aren't liking this "New Rick and Morty" because the show is touching some of the most emotional parts of Rick, Morty, Beth, Summer and Jerry characters and is becoming more family-centered. I personally love it because it shows there is more to Rick and Morty than just fighting space aliens and go on wacky adventures. I'm sure Mr. Poopybutthole would agree on this. *I never intended to cause a nipple race war in the comment section (replies) below*

      If they had wanted to keep the "family-centered" vibe for this latest episode, they'd have made the Vindicators a Fantastic Four type of team. But that sort of critique would have seemed more like picking on the nerd with no friends instead of knocking the popular kids down a peg.

    • @assdan27
      @assdan27 7 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      I feel like Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon have seen that people like the philosophy aspect of the show, and the gore aspect. So, instead of writing actual good episodes, they fill them with gore and spoonfed philosophy as opposed to just writing a good episode. Honestly, I don't think any of the existential and nihilistic aspects of the show were intentional up until this season. Harmon and Roiland realized that people really liked their unintentional creation, and have ran with it. Instead of writing the show like the characters actually act, they now spoon feed you nihilistic themes. It's forced and unfunny. Reddit and Wisecrack ruined Rick and Morty by over analyzing it.

  • @drakeevonbrown

    They are more like the Guardians of the Galaxy rather than the Avengers. Ghost Train = Drax, Supernova = Gamora, Vance = Star-Lord, RoboCroc = Rocket Raccoon, Million Ants = Groot.

    • @TylerDurden420247
      @TylerDurden420247 7 ปีที่แล้ว +79

      It's a mixture that spans the genre. Ghost Train = John Henry Irons (Or maybe John Stewart's Green Lantern because of the green energy constructs), Supernova = Starfire (A supernova is an exploding star, hence Starfire), Million Ants = Antman (I shouldn't have to explain this one), Vance Maximus = Starlord (also self explanatory), Crocubot I'm not sure about but could be either Rocket Raccoon or Cyborg. I'm leaning towards Cyborg because of his appearance though. Give it a space setting for an obvious Guardians reference and the fact that Vindicators and Avengers are synonyms and you have a team up that pokes fun at both sides of the isle.

      Yeah, but Avengers or Justice League makes the better example. The Guardians are, themselves, grey area heroes. They're thieves, assassins, criminals... they don't pretend to be pure good, which actually undermines the point of the episode. That's why most analysts go to the Avengers or JL when referencing the episode.

    My favorite part of this episode is how they released a behind the scenes opinion from the crew who made the episode, and they were all like "oh Worldender is the biggest baddy of all time, he worse than Thanos or Apocalypse" but then you watch it and you realize they just baited you into believing that worldender was a real threat (like a traditional superhero film with a bad guy) when in reality the main character of the show truly was more dangerous than the most evil villain of all time, and you never actually see Worldender be bad cause hes dead lol.

      @@Tempus0ptic then your girlfriend might have forgotten that everyone else isn't as powerful as Rick. He can say that the job of the Vindicators can be done in a couple of hours because he has pretty much infinite power (only his mental issues and laziness are holding him back). Considering that the kind of problems that Vindicators are facing that Rick is shitting on is mostly about defeating a big bad, Rick can just make a weapon that can instantly kill their enemies.
      If the basic, boring and cliche tropes she's referring to is the stuff in generic harem/shounen/harem-shounen series, then that's understandable. I as a shounen fanboy am even repulsed by that. However, a lot of people in the anime world are almost always weaker than their big bad by a large margin, therefore there are certain choices they must make. Considering that they have the common trait of being weaker than the big bad, they are bound to have similar circumstances (ex. training arcs).
      There are some stuff though in shounen that even I would agree that it's very characteristic of a basic, boring and cliche trope, and that's sacrificing a body part to become stronger. Things like training arcs are common, but necessary. Sacrificing a body part almost always makes no sense in some anime series.
      Also, MHA is a series praised for doing shounen tropes well. It's understandable for her to see it as pretty generic.

    Hi Jared (and all the people working on this), about 3 weeks ago I saw the first review of this season. In the comments I said I hoped these 'quicker responding video'-posts about more recent media would not mean that the quality of this channel would go down. But being 4 episodes far in reviewing the new Rick and Morty season I have to say that I'm really happy with what you are making these, they contain really good in depth analyses and great parallels that make the gears of my grey matter rattle (not only in a squanchy gearhead way). So to sum it up: thanks for the great work you guys do!

    We're NOT spoonfed narratives of good and evil. Most of villains in Sam Rami's Spiderman are good people that are victim's of circumstance. The whole point of Captain America: Civil War is that sometimes even the justice system can be wrong, telling you such good and honest people like Steve Rogers are criminals, because they didn't sign a paper. Spiderman himself is constantly hunted by media and called a menace. Ultron says humans must die, because without them, there would be piece. He is obviously right, but we all know murdering an entire race, because of something they can't control. Deadpool kills people for money and jerks of to stuffed unicorns, and yet we route for him because he helps people in need, is honest to himself about not being perfect, truly cares about people dear to him and is overall a good guy. Robin in Teen Titans said: "There is good and there is evil. The line between those two isn't always clear". No one sees themselves as the villain, everyone sees themselves as heroes. Villains are just people who break rules and go to extreme measures to achieve their goals. Heroes sometimes do that, but the difference is that heroes try to make up for it. Sometimes villains even become heroes. And sometimes heroes become villains. That's why this Rick and Morty episode is full of shit in my opinion. It berates superheroes for oversymplifying morality, but it oversimplifies morality and superheroes.

    You asked the question "In movies like the avengers, why does it always have to be the whole universe at stake? Why not just one person? Why 6 million instead of 10,000?" ( I'm paraphrasing) This is at least partly because of what these movies are supposed to do for the audience. They are meant to purely entertain us, not to make use face suffering and tragedy. There is a quote that I feel fits. "One death is a tragedy. A million of deaths is a statistic." (This quote is attributable to Joseph Stalin but we aren't sure who really said it first.) the idea is that a singular or small number of deaths forces us to feel for the deceased but death on a massive scale is so incomprehensible that it becomes nothing more than another number on the page of a history book. Movies like the avengers don't want to get bogged down in the emotion and suffering that come fro

    Rick is also making fun of your political ideals, the ridiculously naive idea of simplifying non-quantifiable moral quandaries into simple "left" and "right". Heroes, like politicians, simplify it into either your side is right or your side is wrong.

    *Watchmen* is another great comic that explores different perspectives of Good and Evil.
    I suggest the book over the film.
