@@tentipiwildcamping I agree but all I’d had to eat all day was 2 eggs for breakfast and a chilli. Overall I was at a quiet deficit of calories for the day.

Hi Paul....Liverpool Kev here...Special video...thank you so much for sharing...After cancer.... I am not 'out and about' as much as I used to be .....so I really enjoy tagging along on your adventures...On the health side as I only know, you can't be flippant...But I think it was john Mortimer of 'Rumpole of The Bailey' fame who said...'There's no
pleasure I will forego, for an extra five years in a nursing home'...I know this dilemma only too well...Thank you again Paul...Liverpool Kev

Whilst watching this video I was impressed to hear you are cutting back on your carbohydrates. I know the last time I watched you, you were sounding pretty stressed at your health. Well done Paul, you are heading in the right direction, better off slowly stopping things, rather than stopping straight away. Life would be pretty horrible. As my father used to say, I'm proud of you!'.
Another good video, thank you and keep doing the right thing for you and your family.

Hi, Paul great video as usual , dont worry about your tent feeling a little damp on the inside , that is the nature of polly cotton the wetter it gets the more the fibers knit together making it more water tight ! I spent 9 days in torrential rain in Dumfries and Galloway about twenty years a go and my tent felt damp on the inside but never let water in , the biggest worry is the weight if you have to carry the tent when not being able to dry it out . All the BEST !

I love these Soto stoves, superb build quality and very controllable. I use a Soto Amicus canister stove that fits neatly in my GSI Minimalist pot along with the canister, lighter and pot holder. Am Optimus windshield wraps around the pot making for a very compact and light set up. Another favourite is the Coleman Exponent 442 petrol stove that I run on naptha or white gas. I use this for motorcycle camping and it has a nice wide flame ring ideal for frying. As easy to use as a gas stove and works in all temperatures.

That has got to be one of my most favourite camping trips I’ve watched. I’ve been watching you and others. But that scenery and weather blew me away, it got me wanting to venture out. I used to love camping from when I was a kid till I took my children always in a campsite. But wild camping is something else. I’d like to think I can, but I’m 65yr woman, a bit nervous but always been adventurous and a bit of a daredevil.

Be careful cutting your favourite food, im not saying eat crap food, but dont go cold turkey on it all as you wont stick it out and we want you to lose the weight! More excercise is the key to losing it, as well as improved diet, but if you want a beer on a friday then have it, provided you put in the excercise. All the best, you can do it!

Ha you had good weather for it, I’d did a two day on a similar route the week before I think. starting from the Story arms. To say it was windy would be something of an understatement, absolutely no chance of camping high even with a Hillberg.
Needless to say I didn’t see anyone for two days, a huge contrast to the last time I was up there.
Glad your doing something about your diet few people manage to alter their life style for long.

Hey Paul.. I came off caffeine a few months ago as part of a challenge with my coach. I accepted the challenge not expecting to make a permanent change. I have to say that I feel so much better off it that I’ve not gone back. I very occasionally have one if I’m really tired and you’ll be amazed at how much you feel it compared to when you drank it every day. Keep it up mate - inspirational and don’t beat yourself up if you have a slip. Also, be careful you don’t go full tilt wearing the Vivos. They are great, but you need to get used to them gradually. Loved this video as usual Paul. Thank you.

  • @rogibaer
    @rogibaer ปีที่แล้ว +2

Thanks for the Nortent Vern 1 PC rain & wind test we were all looking forward to. Looks like it did very nicely. You mentioned "quiet", which I like. (Can't stand loud flappy things; crinkley sleeping mats etc.) Looks easier than some to get 'drum tight'. Free-standing for easy manouvring. Looked 4-season stong. Seems to have held up well against that heavy rain?
Do you think driving rain might eventually push through?
Do you feel like it held on to any of that water when packing it? I think this might be a 'time will tell' issue as the treatment on it wears out. And how easy is it to re-treat, and how often. But poly/cotton apparently lasts much longer than polyester, so that's always going to be a win.
This tent has unique intrigue for someone that likes a Bush Buddy wood stove for cooking and heat.
Even a candle-lantern in a closed tent would feel that much more safe. Breathable, but still no upper vents; only very low ones. But there's unzipping the upper door...
It's half the weight of it's nearest PC alternative; the Tentipi Olivin (and when you add the flu-stove to that, add another kg!).
    Thanks again.

    • @BairIverson
      @BairIverson 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

the tent has no treatment and does not need to be retreated and as for the water coming in. the more water there is the tighter the fibers get and let less water in and then open up and dry out when there is no more rain

I admire your resolve Paul. Loosing weight is tough, but please remember when you reach 40 yrs, your endocrine or hormones reduce and that leads to muscle loss. In other words, watch what you eat, but keep some form of resistance training going for upper as well as lower body. The usual problem is older men trying to loose weight with diet and running, which quite often leads to accelerated muscle loss. I could go on, but it's only for the interested, lol!

Another great video thanks for sharing the experience Paul👍 That Norwegian tent looks solid. Reminds me of an overnighter in the beacons with unpredictable gusts of wind on top. Pegged out the best I could, but in some soft peat sole just off the top of Fan Brycheiniog. Quite a surreal moment as the tent launched straight up out of sight 🚀🚀🚀🚀 Fortunately the wind wasn't blowing off the steep side of the ridge. The tent came down 100+ feet away and I managed to retrieve, peg out and get in. Didn't want to leave the tent after that. A learning point and a testament to the build of the humble vango hydra that I still use.

The MSR Ceramic Solo 1.3 litre pan is a great bit of kit. I swear by it after managing to burn soup in my first titanium pot! At £65 it might break the bank, but at 212 grams it won't break your back. I recommend getting some kind of bags for anything you store inside it so you don't scratch up the ceramic coating.

Best of luck with the weight loss. I struggled with my weight for years and finally lost the excess with a low carb approach. My main sport is cycling, so I still need some carbs for high intensity efforts but I'm careful to cluster carb consumption around just those workouts.
Stick with it. It will change your life. Even ordinary things like getting dressed and undressed in your tent become SO much easier with the fat off.

Can't go cold turkey, you'll get into a binge cycle moderation. coffee tea water is best friends. no fruit juices very low carbs, rye bread is really only acceptable breads. dry creamer is handy. some sterady exercise, about an hour straight of walking, that's different than hillsides and such, the rhythm is what you are after. liking the bi g tough tent.

I’ve had the same issues with burning/overcooking certain foods (like eggs) with a thin backpacking pan. Some backpacking stoves can’t burn low enough. But, I’ve used stove tamers/heat diffusers to good effect. They help reduce the heat to the pot. Some aren’t very heavy (as opposed to bringing a heavier, thicker pot.

I use the SOTO Fusion Trek and Amicus stoves a lot Paul. The Fusion Trek is dimensionally comparable to the Storm breaker, and a great gas stove.

Beautiful views, clouds being blown down the cliff was amazing. The Nortent looks like a great bit of kit.
The Stormbreaker should be used with the gas inverted, only when first lighting it about 5 seconds should it be burning gas in the upright position to get the generator hot and then it should be run on liquid gas (inverted gas canister)
Always turn it upright for a few seconds before turning it off it clear the hose of liquid fuel.
I would be wary of anything Optimus, from my experience quality control sucks although I have the Vega stove and it’s been OK, small burner head so hotspots are an issue.

Titanium pot burning food: you can 'season' titanium pots & pans the same as steel. Very thin fim of oil cooked till it smokes dry. Let pot cool and do again, 5-10 times (!). Then you've got a natural (no chemicals) non-stick coating. Wooden spoons only after that...

I am sold on this tent. Regarding the Trekology pillows, I have been through two. Both only lasted 3 outings before becoming extremely leaky. Upon inspection the plastic used gets stress cracks in it from folding. It simply doesn't like being packed back away. Three out/in cycles and done. Very disappointed.

I was up Pen Y Fan on an overnighter doing the Pen Y Fan Horseshoe in May with a 22kg pack, the ascent wasn't half tough.

The problem with Titanium actually is that it's a fairly poor conductor of heat. So, you got a super thin pot and the heat go straight thru without spreading out creating "hot spots" where the flames of your burner is. An aluminum pot conducts heat much better and often is slightly thicker allowing the heat from the burner to spread out a lot more evenly.

I won’t roll the Alzheimer’s dice with aluminum though - there’s so much evidence in the literature at this stage that, even if there is some remaining doubt, why even take the chance?
