Barefoot boots - LOVE them. I use the Vivobarefoot ones and am now trying some from Freet. The Freet seem more robust. Have been wearing barefoot shoes for over ten years now, its done wonders for my feet and back. Some people think they get added protection from a more solid boot, but I find that I'm so much more sure-footed when I can feel the ground shape underneath me.
Congratulations on the two years, and truly love your channels. Its like bringing a little bit of fresh air indoors.

34:31 when it comes to drinking from natural sources of water it seems like the risk/reward equation for unfiltered drinking water of this water of unknown safety seems pretty straightforward: save yourself a couple of ounces and a few minutes and you will run a risk moderate to serious gastrointestinal illness (whether the risk is 1 in 10 or 1 in 10,000 or 1 in 1,000,000) or take a few extra minutes to use a filter that weights an ounce or two and reduce your risk that is so close to 0 it might as well be a 100% chance that you will never get any waterborne illness.

I think you've got a World Exclusive on the Vern 1 PC!
Great intro to this unique tent!
It's more than double the weight of polyester equivalent, but you're getting all that 'natural pleasantness' of polycotton: not stuffy; flappy; noisey; less dangerous with a stove/candle; it's scent.
When you concider a lightweight mini tipi (Luxe Hexpeake F6e, with Inner, plus Flu-Stove) you are actually lighter than that set up. If you add an oilcloth tarponcho as a porch/ Bushbuddy Stove shelter... maybe still lighter. Plus the benifit of not having ember holes all over it.
I think this could compete with the Mini Tipi set-up in weight and experience. As a kind of 'quasi- Hot Tent' or 'Bakers Tent'.
Anyway, it will be interesting how this gets on with long-term rain. That could get old quick. It may get even heavier when you have to keep packing it in the rain...
Nortent are really on the ball with their tents.
Look forward to the hard-use review.

Zero drops are not for everyone and as such need to be given time for your body to make some adjustments. Specifically, if you have never worn zero drop shoes, trail runners or boots, your achilles needs to stretch out in order to accommodate the new lack of elevation from the heel stack. Love your channel!

Hi Paul, had polycotton in a big family tent for years. its v heavy but never had condensation (will feel moist as it does soak up some moisture - which swells the fibres and makes it waterproof) Cooler in summer warmer in winter. quiet as well.. Not sure I would want to carry it too far! Congrats on the 2 years

    • @cyrilhaessig27

Having said that, an ultralight mat and sleeping bag would probably add another 1kg. That would be 4.5kg for your shelter and sleep system (yes on the heavy side), but then it leaves you with about 3.5kg to play with to make it an 8kg load which isn't that bad for a few days trip.

This one's still hot off the press!
I transitioned to barefoot shoes about 3 years ago. It was triggered by me having a large bunion on one foot which made shoes extremely uncomfortable. The only option was surgery, but they said they wouldn't entertain the idea until I was almost unable to walk, so after research I went for barefoot shoes. Within 6 months my toes had straightened out, and although my big toe is offset, the bunion is no longer a thing. I've got to the point now where I can no longer wear "normal" shoes because my feet have spread out, I've seen countless benefits and honestly you couldn't pay me enough to go back to wearing anything else now. Go easy on yourself, and learn about exercises and common issues when going to barefoot shoes, although with the ones you're already wearing you're already half way there.
Thanks for taking us with you, that tent sure looked interesting. I do love you and your endless supply of gear 🤣

I got the vivo magna forest esc boots and recently did a 3 day hike in the mountains of sweden. I can say they are really comfy and waterproof. Although i did wax them before i went. I usually wear size 45 eur, but they recommended a size smaller on the website so i got them in 44s. In hindsight 45 would have been ok if i ever wanted thicker socks. Just remember barefoot shoes are different from shoes like altras and need some time getting used to the groundfeel to be comfortable. I buy my vivos from their revivo store which is used and refurbed shoes. All mine have been in excellent condition and you save alot of £. All the best Paul!

But for multi-day hikes I always choose more cushioned zero-drops - Altras of various models (Superiors and Lone Peaks being my usual choices). I do like the Lone Peak all-weather shoes (with a waterproof lining) for cold, persistently wet weather though.

Nice one Paul. Keep up what you are doing, as you have inspired me to get out in the hills and see life, which is a great mental health pill.

I’ve got a few pairs of vivo trackers and the smaller magna. I would definitely go for he esc rather than the fg. Especially in the peaks. The tread on the fg just isn’t up to it.
Myself and I didn’t have any issues transitioning either. Very comfortable.

My drink tonight is Metaxa ( Greek Brandy ) cheers!. Nice to see after 2 years it's going OK still. I'm 3 years into my channel and only 500 subs 😂😂😂. . . . As for boots and socks. I still don't like wet feet, so go for boots. Loving the Salewa Crow. After 30 years. Probably the best value mountain boot I've had. .....those MPs, totally lost touch. I'm 40 years into my career and never needed maths. . . . As for other TH-camrs. ( apart from me of course 😂) loving BRUNO PISANI. he camps on summits in Dolamites etc.very different to yours but very connected ...love that tent your in 😂 Keep it up mate. 👍😎

Opinel! I absolutely swear by mine, carbon steel, so easy to keep sharp. This and a victronox Swiss army keeps me fully covered. I was thinking about getting a lockable Swiss so I only have to carry one knife but my Opinel weighs next to nothing and it's so easy to sharpen and is such a lovely design. Cous cous and choritso is a really good alternative to £6+ camping meals. I've been experimenting a lot with different meals I can finish in my thermos food flask as well, for example making risotto with easy cook rice and dried mushrooms (can buy these cheap from Chineese supermarkets). I hope you're health check up goes well Paul, all the best. On my way to the dales now, watching camping videos on route, haha can't wait!

I wear vivobarefoot almost exclusively now. Defo follow the advice about easing into zero drop but they're the best for my foot shape and gape.
Congrats on 2 years, love the vids.

Just found your chanel Paul and love it. I'm a fifty plus year old who hasn't walked more than a mile since my Navy basic training in the late eighties but having been given a pair of boots I'm having a go. Short distances at first and we'll see what happens.
Noticed your Opinel, recommended to me by a Dutch captain when I was sailing a tall ship in the early eighties, to this day I still use Opinel kitchen knives as they are easy to keep sharp and feel good in your hand.

I bought some Vivobarefoot Tracker Forest walking boots in London a few months ago, and love them. They came with waterproofing cream which works very well. After a few months of transition my feet are much more flexible, and I don’t get any more muscle cramps.

Hi Paul, regarding hiking boots. Another option for zero drop waterproof hiking boots which I wear are the Xero Shoes Men's Xcursion Fusion . I also have the Vivo Tracker II FG which are waterproof but tractions not great. My Vivo Tracker Forest ESC by far the best in the Peak District bogs for grip but not waterproof at all. I’d recommend the Xeros and I wear them the most. Hope this helps.

Like the comments on Tony at AB camping. I think his lengths are great. I often watch them over a period of time when I first started but now I can watch the whole lot. I just feel with him, you get to be on the trip so much I am truely apart of it and you get all aspects of it to. I don’t think one can cram the experience in 20 minutes or so. The chats through out are really;lay great and heaps of entertainment with Bruce and Bruno…. Also he has variety too between car camping wild camping and now Buddy. I think each You Tuber needs to make the show their own, play to their strengths and be unique to themselves. Those that copy frustrate me. Those that have their individual flair excite me.

Oh Paul. I have battled, fought, struggled, combatted with all my strength, I have watched this video about 5 times now, and finally I have submitted, weakened, defeated myself and give in.... I have ordered a Vern1 PC lol... I think I have just made 6 other tents redundant lol.

I think the thing I hate the most about camping is falling in love with a campsite and a beautiful view and then happening to pack up and leave. It’s like I find that beautiful spot and I just want to like move there. Lol.

Fantastic video as always, I have had my eye on that tent for a couple of weeks. Big fan of polycotton tents, I look forward to a few more reviews. I would like to see it in heavy rain and bad weather and what that does to the weight.
