I’m 90, in tolerably good shape but looking after a less robust husband, the news about fighting being resumed in the East had deeply saddened us, and we were both coming down with some sort of flu. Not a cheerful household……. Don’t panic about doing gear reviews. It’s not always convenient to go out constantly camping. People need to understand that. As well as camping, I love buying new stuff and it’s people like yourself that show us what’s out there
I would say don't panic about it but definitely don't stop. This community that's here for you Paul - listens to your advice. I've said it before, I'll say it again. Please keep doing gear reviews it helps us decide on what gear to buy and not to buy.
I'm not into camping but love watching your videos and seeing what stuff helps you survive out there in the wild as much as I like seeing the places you visit. You come across as a decent honest guy and you have my respect. What I don't get is the hassle you receive from a small number of people who object to you doing videos of one type or another. They don't own you and are free to avoid anything they don't like. Those experienced campers who know their stuff, have their chosen kit and may disagree with you need not watch you reviewing anything. They can avoid that content. What's wrong with just doing that? Why does anyone need to get all worked up about your view that one bit of kit is better or worse than another or upset that you do too many product reviews? It's all a bit puerile. You can't please everyone. Do what you enjoy and what keeps you healthy. I'll keep watching and enjoying your content. In the unlikely event that I come across something which isn't of interest, I'll fast forward or just click on the stop button then find another video. Simples :)

Nice vid. Views. A nice perch and 🥃 I loved it on Sheffield pike. Those views are amazing well worth the hike. I’m the same descending hills. I believe that not many people will actively search for a video specifically about solo camping on a frosty mountain. Existing subscribers might watch it, but new viewers are more likely to discover Paul’s channel while searching for gear-related content. Personally, I enjoy watching videos that combine gear reviews with beautiful mountain views. The routine of being in the mountains is appealing to me. As I get to know a TH-camr’s personality, I develop an emotional attachment and become interested in hearing their stories. It’s similar to how we get hooked on TV shows-initially, we might not be very interested, but after a few episodes, we want to watch more. Considering that the previous format of mixing gear reviews and camping videos worked well, there may be no need to change it.
I enjoyed reading this comment as much as I enjoyed watching Paul’s video. When I’m recording my adventures there has to be an element of self love and enjoyment for wild camping and not just doing it for views. I can smell those channels a mile off and it gives me the ick 😂 I have always loved Paul’s channel and feel like I’ve been in the journey with him as a top fan and fellow Sheffileder ❤
@@SoloSarahBX l completely agree with your perspective. When I’m researching specific gear, I prefer watching straightforward product review videos. However, in the case of Paul’s channel, I subscribed after watching a combination of his product reviews and wild camping experiences. While the wild camping content alone is fine to me, I believe Paul should diversify to attract a broader audience. It’s inevitable that some negative comments will arise due to the channel’s size, but the majority of subscribers joined when there was a mix of reviews and outdoor adventures. Being innovative is crucial, but monitoring the channel’s progress and adapting when necessary is essential. Ultimately, it’s Paul’s business, and a commercial approach is vital.
@@andreya6577 yes there is one huge difference between my adventures and Mr Messner’s. His pays the bills and mine is my hobby. There’s no pressure or responsibility to conform like the responsibility I uphold in my day job 😊

Paul, I'm a big fan of your channel so I've thought carefully about this comment. I think that you're slightly letting your viewers down by not commenting on the kit that you use. Most of us are gear nerds and are really interested in kit we haven't got but might want to acquire, and we rely on you to give us your opinions based on actual use of the kit. For instance I don't think I've seen you use that tent before, is it new? I'd have liked to hear your impresions of it. You're letting a few boo boys stop you from doing one of the things that you do so well, please reconsider and start giving us your thoughts about the gear again. One little tip for you: You're right that Butane isn't any use below zero degrees centigrade but MSR and Jetboil (I thnk) cannisters contain ISOBUTANE which is good down to minus twelve so you shouldn't need to worry about keeping them warm. Keep up the good work, amazing views on this one, really enjoyed it, thanks .

Hi Paul. Longtime viewer to your excellent channel. I've seen the several transitions your channel has made over the years. This newest format is more like your original camping roots and I like it. Back in the day 😂 your videos were almost travel logs from hiking/camping viewpoints. They were "new and different" from the more basic backpacker's travel videos. Now returning to the your hiking/camping roots it feels more like you literally have taken us there with you again. Thank you 😊 and much continued success! Love the video Paul. If you're not "reviewing" gear, might be worth mentioning what you are currently using...I trekked across the rockies for 3 weeks a few years ago. Made our own boil in the bags, by emptying tinned goods / meals into a ziploc bag. Squeeze out the air, fold the bag and then double bag it in another bag. To heat we made foil sheaths to protect the plastic bags from the side of the pot. Cheap, easy to do and worked well. Also meant keeping waste to a minimum as it was a case of "pack it in, pack it out".

I like the new direction. Gear is cool, and no harm in saying what's worked for you, but I think it's a pity when it becomes the focus. Really liked how you spotlighted your surroundings in this vid
For winter camps/treks I now use a thin dextrous pair of gloves that breath well but keep the wind chill off and then have a warmer pair of gloves that fit over the top for when you're sitting around/don't need to use your hands (Rab VR Gloves are the best "liners" in my opinion, and you can do pretty much anything in them including using your phone, then I wear a warmer glove like the Montane prisms or a hard shell over the top when I need the extra warmth. This works really well for me in winter, I started doing it while trekking in Sweden when it was about -30 degrees C (you have to at that temperature as you can't touch anything with bare hands then) but now I do it for all my winter camps. You can use one of those reusable hand warmers to warm up your gas canister if it’s really cold.
I did a cold weather camp last week with my tarptent moment DW solid. It was my first go with that particular tent. It gave me the chance to try out new gear and warm weather clothing that still keeps my pack somewhat light. I don't carry it in as far, but there's absolutely NOBODY else around. I love the solitude and winter sunsets and sunrises. They are truly special! My gear kept me pretty toasty. The little toe warmers, down booties and body warmers that stick onto the outside of my clothing inside my quilt work super well. Cheers!

I got excited when I saw you had the Unna as it’s a tent I’ve considered buying in the past, along with the Enan and I couldn’t decide between them. I’d briefly forgotten you’re no longer commenting on, or reviewing products and was looking forward to hearing your opinions on it as a winter tent. I like everything about it other than the lack of vestibule which could be a problem when it comes to cooking in bad weather. I still enjoyed the video and only wish I could’ve been out camping myself. Keep up the good work Paul.

Just got into wild camping last year, and i watch yours and others. But i like to see and hear what gear you taking like sleep systems .. cooking equipment etc you dont have to promote anything just say.... this is what i take and do. Thats almost what everyone wants 👍

Best time of the year for camping! I just recently got the 10mm poles for my Unna. I’d definitely recommend them for those camps that might get a little more windy 👍. Nice video as always! ATB

I have a Hilleberg Rogen and replaced the poles with those from a Staika - now just about able to stand up to anything. I often take a 'Big Soup' with added meat and veg - makes a really great meal. Have a peak at Decathlon Down Parka - around £160 and supremely cosy, it's become my go to once in my tent. I also wear Vivo's - best footwear Ive found. I wax mine from time to time and they've never et me down.
Absolutely fantastic,I was up on the mountains not too far away from where you camped just a few days ago & underfoot conditions on the icy granite was lethal at times so fair play to you for continuing to video as you negotiated both the ascent & descent as I can vouch it isn't as easy as it may seem at times! Awesome views & with the right gear it looked like a great camp..as for not mentioning your gear,well personally I like it when you do,by giving advice etc it may just save someone's life by them not going out ill equipped in conditions that they or their equipment aren't ready for..thanks for taking us along on another great adventure.

This is great. I was just out camping in 25F the other week for a few nights and it felt amazing being out under the stars with noting more then moonlight through the trees to guide your path in the woods. Although minus the wind, a mountain top looks like a more interesting view

I use Mylar bags and have curry, roast, casserole, bolognaise etc or indeed anything in them. Freeze them then take the frozen meal out and it defrosts enough to cook when you get there. Use the boil in the bag perfect portions of basmati rice and mini naan.
Loved the DIY boil in the bags, some proper food. Made me smile that one, you captured what it’s all about.

There are loads of diff ways you can configure it & it's comfy AF. I must say, you certainly made the views the star of this vid, they are epic. Regarding getting cold hands while doing stuff - have you tried a liner glove for while your working/cooking then Buffalo mittens to put on to warm up? They are very light & very toasty! I keep mine in a small dry bag when winter climbing in case of emergency.

I was up kinder last night with my brother inlaw. The weather changed alot. Ended up with half a foot snow drifts on the tent. Before the pea soup came in the views where amazing.

Great video as always Mr M. Boil in the bag fry up works really well. Sausage, bacon, black pudding and mushrooms all cooked, cooked, vacuumed and frozen. Boil in the bag at camp, put in a roll or bread and you have the perfect breakfast with no washing up.

I love watching your videos, Paul, with all the memories that it brings back of winter camping half a century ago in my simple robert saunders tent. How luxurious it is these days, particularly with your self-inflating mattresses and your lightweight footwear, a far cry from the plain karrimat and heavy leather boots we had then. Yet I can still smile at the recollection of those mornings when the tent was half collapsed under the weight of snow, and of those icy dawns when my back was aching and my boots were almost too stiff to put on, and of the dubious pleasure of having to stick the gas cylinder into my crutch in order to thaw it sufficiently to use on my stove! Well those days are past for me, but the great thing about the passing of time, as you will no doubt appreciate, Paul, is that the occasional uncomfortable memories fade away leaving only pleasurable reflections.

On ascent vs descent - whilst going up is harder work, the coming down always hammers my knees.

Yup going downhill has become more challenging as I’ve gotten older … at 64 it’s become tricky … recently started doing specific strength training … hopefully improves strength and balance in couple months.
