- Join me as I set out into the mountains to test a new tent in challenging mountain conditions. After the hike up the mountain, I find a suitable spot to pitch the tent, prepare a delicious meal, and settle in for the night as the wet weather moves in. Throughout the night, the tent sustains heavy rainfall and strong winds for over eight hours. Let’s find out how it held up! I hope you enjoy the video.

I’ve never ever left a comment before, but I’m so impressed with your videos, they are so interesting and entertaining, I’m 75 years of age and it tempts ms to go out and buy all the gear necessary and try a trek and camp myself, I look forward to any upcoming adventures you upload with interest.
Thank you for the kind words and taking the time to leave a comment 🙏😀.
I am 70, and still venture into the hills wild camping, I have been doing it since I was 23, so have a good fitness level, and the required skills. Age is no barrier If you have the experience, if not, just try say a 2 hour easy walk and a camp site to get started. I do this quite a lot, making sure there is a nice pub nearby ;) Swaledale is my favourite area for this- Grinton, Reeth, Muker. Go for it!

Please thank your lovely wife (& kids) for allowing you the time to make these awesome AND informative videos 🇦🇺
👍😀 I will do that! Really happy you’re enjoying the videos. Hope you’re having a nice weekend.
This was a good one. I'll be trying my first cold weather camp soon. Enjoy your holidays and do some more winter camps even tho they're difficult they are the best kind of content as a viewer imo.
Glad you liked it. There will definitely be more cold weather camps coming. Hope you enjoy the holidays and your first cold weather camp. It’s one of my favorite times of the year to camp. ATB
I have to say the performance of the tent with regards to being waterproof is absolutely shocking for the price point! Fair play to you for being so laid back about it 😁,it would be interesting to see what Nortent have to say.Great video as always!
I agree about the price point. You want a tent at this price to be completely waterproof out of the box 👍. I wasn’t happy to see that it leaked however in some regards I was happy it was localized only to those patches and the leak was nowhere near the inner tent. Luckily I should be able to add a bit of seam sealant and fix it myself 👍. Really appreciate you watching!
Highlight of the week when one of these videos is released. Good weather to test your new tent and always a pleasure watching you prepare your meals.
🙏😀 it was a great test for the tent. Really enjoyed this camp 👍. The meal was great! Thanks for watching. Hope you have a nice weekend.
I just love your videos. After a long hard week of work , I'm always thrilled to kick back and watch your vid. Beautiful scenery. Wow ❤
Really appreciate you continuing to watch! Hope you have a nice weekend 👍😀
I absolutely love your content. There is something amazing about having a nice hot cup of tea and watching your camp/cooking videos. Especially at this time of the year.
Very happy you’re enjoying the videos! I really enjoy my camps this time of the year. Appreciate you watching! Hope you have a nice weekend.
Awesome video again I love watching them you are so chilled out and your delightful cooking never ceases to amaze me. Well done again and thank you as always.
Thank you! It’s always very relaxing to get out and immerse myself in these incredible environments and cook myself a nice meal. I really enjoyed the Pad Thai. Just happy I was still able to make it work using my plastic knife 😅. Really appreciate you taking the time to comment. Hope you’re having a nice weekend!
I am off to Thailand soon and will definitely have a prawn pad Thai and will be thinking of you cooking in a storm in the mountains. Thanks for sharing.
🙏👍 Nice! Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. Hope you have a nice trip!
Absolutely brilliant upload mate. Tlreally enjoyed that. Very relaxing feel to it. Cracking spot you camped. Knowing a good camping spot is worth it's weight in gold. Takes the worry away. Cheers man. Greetings from Ireland ☘️☘️
Thanks! It was nice to revisit this spot. Provides really nice views even with cloud cover. Really appreciate you taking the time to comment. Hope you have a nice week!
Lol, that knife... great video, as always. Stunning views, fitting music. You really capture the ambience well. Thank you.
Thank you. That’s good to hear 👍. The environment is definitely the star of the show. 😂 Happy I had that little plastic knife with me. Made for an interesting book but at least it got the job done. Appreciate you watching!
One of the highlights of your videos has to be your cooking I love how you can create good food despite being in the middle of nowhere I'm glad that you were able to make your makeshift knife work.
Really happy you enjoy the cooking portions of the video 👍. That little plastic knife saved the day 😅. Still not sure why I put my normal knife in my camera bag but at least I found it! Appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. ATB
Fantastic video, just love your choice of locations, and your informative dialogue. great arial views too. OUTSTANDING.
Thank you! I feel very lucky I am able to travel to these fantastic locations by car. It’s always nice when I can show the area from the drones perspective as well. Really appreciate you taking the time to comment. Hope you have a nice weekend.

Also, what’s the jacket? Love the big hood!
Thanks! It was nice to come back to this spot after so many years 👍😀. On this trip I was using my Fjallraven Keb jacket. I love the huge hood as it really keeps the wind and rain out of your face 👍. ATB

Been feasting on your videos for the last week since l found you. many thanks . Ive learnt a lot from you .a wonderful attitude to hiking and the gear you use all the best from the great southern land of Tasmania.

Thank you, glad you enjoyed that portion of the video!
I know you were worried about bad quality in this video but let me tell you - DRAMA is more entertaining than perfection. I love being there without having to be there. Keep up the great work!
Overall it was a nice camp 👍. I was very happy with how the tent held up to the wind. It’s unfortunate that it leaked but I should be able to resolve those issues. Really appreciate you watching. ATB

Just how I like my camps, raining and windy! Great video! Thanks
Thanks for watching! It was a good test for the tent 👍
I saved this one for Saturday night! Great video in the beautiful mountains. I'm always interested in your cooking, going to pay your website a visit!
👍😀 really appreciate you taking the time to watch. I really enjoyed the Pad Thai on this camp. Even though I had to prepare it with a plastic knife 😂
I really like the design of this tent with the large vestibules and good number of guy points. I think that you should give direct feedback to the manufacturer Nortent so that they are aware of the Dynerma patch stitching leaking.
Great videos.
Great attitude.
Cheers from Australia.
I like the design as well, it’s quite unique. I’ve noticed on Nortents site they are now offering seem sealing for this tent at the time of purchase. Hopefully this will address the issue. Really appreciate you watching! ATB
Thank you for bring us the beautiful view with your new tent.
My pleasure! ⛰️ Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment!
Love the detail you go into on the guides, and the benefits etc. brings a bit of technical knowledge into the video (for us tent geeks).
Thanks, glad you didn’t mind the extra tent talk 👍😀. I try not to talk too much about gear in my videos but because I was specifically going out with this tent to see how it could handle the weather there is definitely a bit more tent talk. I had to cut quite a bit from the video because I love rambling about tents 😅 … especially when they are new. Always exciting to check out something that’s a bit different than the other gear you have. Really appreciate you watching. Hope you have a nice weekend.
@@GoingSoloOutdoors appreciate your interactions in chat as well. One question, I didn't realise the water filter works on salt water as well?
Unless it wasn't your drinking water as well, just for cooking?
I love chatting about gear and the outdoors in the comments section! No it doesn’t work on salt or brackish water, just fresh water 👍
@@GoingSoloOutdoors thanks. Never forget your knife! 🤣

Really appreciate you making your way through my older videos 🙏😀.
That’s one of the reasons I love this sand color. Blends in well with the environment 👍
Well, first of all we noticed you are sporting a mustache! Nice!
Love the tent, we particularly like the yellow fabric inside, which brightens it up a lot. Black interiors are so dark. As for the leaking, your attitude is amazing! Looked at it, figured out what the problem was and have a fix already in mind. No temper tantrum, no exclamations about how bad it is, nope, just figuring out what to do! Patience in the midst of possible troubles, moving what was important to places where leaking was not evident, then back to sleep. Bravo young man, bravo! Thank you for another amazing video…we so look forward to them-and the recipes! I do not like fish at all, but my hubby does. Maybe he can convince me to try that dish, or maybe I could convince him to exchange the shrimp for chicken and a different sauce!😁 Oh, and the camping knife worked well, another example of making do and moving forward! (Even if you did find your normal knife in an unexpected place!😊)
I always really appreciate your comments. I had a nice time on this camp and I was very happy I had the chance to give this tent a good test in some challenging weather. I was definitely disappointed to see the tent leak but you just gotta take things as they come and move on. I’m typically always in a good mood when I get the chance to go out on a camp so that helps 👍😀. You can definitely switch out the shrimp for chicken in the pad Thai 😀. Many restaurants do 👍. I was happy I was still able to prep the ingredients with my little plastic knife. Surprised it worked so well. As always, thank you both for watching!
You’ve just made me list the ingredients for that PadThai, looks unbelievable 👍
I highly recommend giving this recipe a try 👍. Pretty easy and very tasty. Appreciate you watching.
Fantastic video as always. I'm greatfull as I'm sure others are that you made the decision to talk to us all. Always love to see what your going to cook, I love to cook and camp but never ceases to impressed me with your range of recipes your prepared to take on whist in a tent on the side of a mountain. My main reason for commenting however is your determination to carry on with a plastic knife! Hats off to you fantastic effort. My daughter partner an myself literally gave a round of applause when you finished cooking. My daughter also found it hilarious that you had actually remembered to pack your knife 😂 Keep up the good work, look forward to the next one. 🙏
I still have no clue why I decided to put my knife in my camera bag 😂. It definitely made the food prep an interesting experience. Worked much better than I anticipated 👍😀. Really appreciate all of you watching my video. Hope you and your family have a nice weekend!
Thank you for another great video. I'm sorry your tent leaked. It is a beautiful tent. I'm almost completely healed from my hip replacement. I like the other nor tent. I have learned tons from you. I know nothing about videos and filming. Is about the food and just being out in nature . I'm going to try that pate Ti
You should definitely try the Pad Thai, it was really good 👍😀. The leaks were a bit disappointing, but I was happy with the interior space and how the tent held up in the wind. Hopefully it’ll be an easy enough fix. Glad your hips on the mend! Really appreciate you taking the time to comment. Hope you have a nice weekend.
Glad to have found your channel. Liking the countryside from Wales. Definitely different landscape versus what I see in Virginia. Perfect way to start my day before I get on a plane this afternoon. Ill be sure to check for new videos!
Happy to hear you like the channel. This part of Wales is stunning. It can have some pretty moody weather but the views are just fantastic 👍. Have a safe flight and thanks for watching!

@@GoingSoloOutdoors no problem Bateman 😉😂
Cheers Todd. One more great recipe to add to my backpacking list. Thanks for yet another cracking video. Lucky you had that wee back up knife. I remember Dave Canterbury saying "Two is one and one is none". Which I assume means carry a spare in case one gets broken or lost. But you cannot carry two of everything. In this case you did and it saved your bacon (or Pad Thai)!!
Typically when I’m out in the woods I have two knives. Still not sure why I packed my actual knife in my camera bag but I was happy I at least had the plastic serrated knife. It actually worked surprisingly well! Really appreciate you watching! Hope you have a nice weekend
You are an impressive man Mr. Solo, hiking so far to test out a brand new tent in such foul conditions.
Most people interested in testing their tents in crappy weather would probably just pitch it in their back garden or a site closer to the car.
So kudos to you, and thank you very much for bringing us along.
I have been waiting for this video since I saw your instagram post last week. And it did not disappoint, but then again, you never do.
And as a bit of a Nortent fanboy, this video was very interesting. Fortunately for me and my wallet, I may be too tall for it. But I have to admit that watching this video did nothing to alleviate my n+1 syndrome
Looking forward to the next one, both with or without the Ly 1 (btw you pronounce the name wrong 😉) and I wish you and yours a great weekend. 👍
I just try to use new tents as I would use any of my others. Best way to find out what it can do👍. The hike to this spot definitely wasn’t as far as many of my other camps but as the days are getting shorter there is less time to hike once I arrive at my destination. Either way it was nice to get out and test this tent. I like the design much more than I originally anticipated, although there are definitely a few things that need to be addressed. I really enjoyed using the tent though. really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. Can’t wait to get back out for another camp. Hope you have a nice weekend!
Another great trip. I have that same frypan. Love it. Good to see you use the tripod to support the gas bottle. I'm amazed at how many hikers don't use it. Are you going to seam seal those patches? Looking forward to more videos. 😊
Thanks. This fry pan is definitely one of my favorites to cook with. Nothing sticks to it and it cooks pretty evenly. At some point I will be pitching the tent in my back garden and pouring water over this area to try to simulate what happened on this camp. As I was drying the tent at home, I noticed that water seems like it got trapped between the inner Dyneema patches and the outer tent fly so I want to experiment with it a bit more before a seam seal it. Really appreciate you watching. Hope you have a nice weekend.
Great camp! I have reached the point where I only watch your channel for my backpacking fix. I am sticking to my hilleberg, nothing else tempts me so far.
Thanks! That’s a wise decision. I do enjoy trying other tents from time to time but there is a reason I have so many Hilleberg tents. They are reliable and they stand the test of time 👍. ATB
I fell coming down in exactly the same place. It's proper slippy in the wet. Like the tent design although it does seem quite huge for a 1 man. I own the 2024 nortent vern 1, and despite some people's opinions I absolutely love it. Think nortent are a great company that listen, so wouldn't be surprised if they sort those patches out. I used to own the Unna and i had a similar experience with that, the rain direction changed and i had rain coming in under the storm flap. Cracking vid, atb paul
Thanks! I really like this tent design a lot. It is very spacious for a one man tent and almost feels like a two man tent which is nice. The inner is definitely only big enough for one person but it has tons of headroom and it remains very taught and the fabric doesn’t blow around all that much in strong winds. I really like that Nortent is creating some interesting designs, however I sometimes get the impression that the consumer is the beta tester as each year there are updates made to many of their existing products. Don’t get me wrong, I think that’s a good thing but I sometimes get the impression the tent designs were not tested for a long enough period of time before being brought to market. For instance these vents 😅. It takes 10 minutes in the wind to realize there really needs to be a toggle to hold it from flapping like crazy. Also with no mesh you are going to get tons of spin drift in snowy conditions unless you completely zip the vent closed but then you completely cut your ventilation. The leaks were also not ideal but a few camps in the rain would have indicated that was an issue. The rest of the tent was seam sealed by the company but these areas were left untouched which I don’t understand. I dunno. Like I said, I really like the tent but in this configuration, at $700 I expect to see little things like this taken care of in the testing phase before the tents are sold to the consumer. I have the Vern 1 PC and I also really like the design of that tent, but I hate the poles that came with it. This year they’ve updated that tent and it comes with much better poles (they look like the ones that came with this tent which are nice), more pole attachment points, and more guy out points. I messaged the company to see if they would have these poles available for people with the first generation of the Vern 1 PC to purchase but they never responded. I’m just left feeling like a beta tester with terrible poles. I suppose these are growing pains but it just doesn’t sit right with me. Sorry my response was so long. It just got me thinking out loud and venting a little 🤣😅. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. ATB
@GoingSoloOutdoors haha, no problem with the long reply. Yeah I get your point about the consumer being the beta testers. I'd definitely try getting back in touch though and send them ur vid. They been good with me, so it a shame they've not come back to you. Thanks for the reply, really appreciated. Atb paul
Good to see another one, hopefully this will be last one before winter camps starts, let me start watching this

Great video my friend. Thanks for taking me along on your adventure.
Glad you enjoyed it! Appreciate you taking the time to leave comment 🙏😀
At 26:49 before you had even said anything I thought "He's forgotten his knife!" and had a little chuckle. At that point I would have been using my teeth to chop vegetables! However, it's a great learning point. I'll now order another knife to go in my second rucksack. Oh no! A Sunday spent shopping for new camping gear, almost as good as camping!
😂👍 I was happy I was able to make it work with that little plastic knife. It made for an interesting meal prep. Not sure why I put my knife in my camera bag, but at least I didn’t actually forget it. Really appreciate you watching. Hope you have a nice weekend.
Hi do you mind me asking please how you’ve attached the footprint so it pitches as one and how you’ve made it so you can detach it to roll the footprint back. Great video 👍
Absolutely! Unfortunately Nortent did not make this as easy as manufacturers like Hilleberg that use toggles. I had to tie the elastic ends of the footprint to the tent base pegging loops. For the vestibule area, I tied the elastic around those ring clips that are provided by Nortent so that I could easily detach those clips from the peg out points and roll back the vestibule when needed 👍. Hope that helps. Really appreciate you watching. All the best.
@@GoingSoloOutdoorsbrilliant info that’s much appreciated. I’ve ordered this tent after watching your review for the vestibule space around the sleeping area. Can see me using it with both sides open for feeling of space and then when it’s bed time closing up the inner for the extra warmth. Will be interesting to see how it fairs with the winds but most tunnel tents handle the winds just fine so fingers crossed. Nortent has 25% off so couldn’t resist taking the plunge. Thank you for confirming how you’d gotten around the issue 👍
Enjoyed your conversation and the video! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for watching! Hope you have a nice weekend 👍😀

A lovely place indeed. The drone view and the accompanying music at the 20 min mark was epic! - "Interstellar". The tent looks roomy and comfy, the minor leakages notwithstanding. The weight though, may be off-putting. But I guess it's ideal for weight training. Thanks
I always love coming to Snowdonia 😀⛰️. The tent handled the wind very well and the space is definitely quite comfortable, especially as the nights are getting longer as we move into winter. It’s definitely a bit heavy for a one man tent, but I don’t mind carrying the weight for this much space. The leaks are definitely something that needs to be addressed though. Hopefully it will be an easy fix with some seam sealant. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. ATB
Another awesome video. Your videography and delivery is great. You need a wild camping tv show ! Interesting tent but for me too heavy. I have a Jannu with 10.25mm poles which comes in less heavy than this. My nallo 2 is over 1kg lighter and is expedition proven in terms of storm worthiness. Plus both are of course 2 person. Great to see innovative new designs to so I applaud nortent for that 👏
Thanks! The weight does make it a hard sell unless you don’t bring the footprint and use lighter pegs. You can get it down to 2.8kg. It feels very roomy inside and was comfortable to camp in but I agree there are many very strong two man tents at the 3.47kg which was the weight as I brought it on this trip. The design is very unique though and I do respect that they are trying new things. It performed well on the wind as well, although the leaking I experienced definitely was not ideal. I wouldn’t have been very happy if my camera equipment got wet. Hopefully it will be an easy fix. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. Hope you have a nice weekend.
Great video, you've definitely inspired me to be a bit more adventurous with the food I take. Cheers
Thanks! That’s great to hear. There’s no reason we can’t eat well at camp 👍😀. Besides if you like cooking, it’s really fun to cook with your camp cook set.
Good tip about cold soaking the noodles. I usually cold soak jerky on multi day trips.
Ha was just starting to think you might publish a camp cook book I’ll check out your website 👍
😀👍 The cook book was originally my plan but it’s much faster to just make the recipes available after each camp. One day I would like to combine everything into a book though. Really appreciate you checking out my site! ATB
I love the knife part, kinda funny😁. I'm always excited to see what you're going to cook Thanks for your videos. Till next adventure😊
😅👍 definitely not ideal misplacing my knife. At least I found it. Made for an interesting cook. Just happy the little plastic knife worked well enough. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. Hope you have a nice weekend.
Cool tent review, the weather was very appropriate.
Not sure about this tent though.
Quite a haul at 3,5 kg but for specific use like winter camping perhaps interesting when you bring (much) more gear.
To be honest, I'd appreciate the 'living space' inside the Unna more than having 2 big vestibules and a relatively smaller inner tent space.
The leaking on the windward side was not so surprising, with wind actually driving water through.
Didn't expect seeing it on both sides but nothing a small tube of sealant can't solve.
Dinner was mouth watering, as always.
Compliments to the chef.
I wouldn’t necessarily call this a review because I have no idea yet how this tent will handle snow or multiple trips in this kind of weather, but it definitely gave me an idea of how it can handle the wind and rain. I was impressed with how it held up to the wind and I actually really enjoyed the space inside. However the leaks definitely need to be addressed and I wouldn’t expect it to a tent at this price point. Hopefully it should be an easy fix. The Unna is still hands-down, my favorite tent 👍⛺️. Absolutely LOVE my Unna!!
Love your filming style, glad you remembered to charge the drone this time, I love these places even when the weather is grim, 'there can be no true beauty without decay' chin chin
Thank you! I definitely made sure I charged the drone for this camp 😅 wasn’t going to make that mistake again. I was just really happy I got the chance to fly it. I didn’t know if the weather would hold off long enough to fly it … luckily it did. It’s always fun to show these locations from the perspective of the drone. Really appreciate you watching.
Thanks for the video. Did you seam seal the Allak 2?.
Thanks for watching! No I’ve never had to seam seal any of my Hilleberg tents 👍
amazing cooking as always! Makes me so hungry watching lol
Thanks! 👍😀 I really enjoyed this meal. Really appreciate you watching. Hope you have a nice weekend.
3,4 kg is really pretty heavy for a one-man-tent! I got a two-man-tent for myself and it has 3,5 kg. It‘s the COLEMAN PHAD X2 and i can highly recommend it!
I like your Videos! Keep on going 👍 Greetings from Munich/Bavaria/Germany
Glad you like the videos! I have quite a few tents as well that are under 3.5kg. Although, I don’t mind carrying the weight in the winter when I’m looking for a bit of extra space. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment!

I bought a Wild Country Hoolie 2 tunnel tent about 12 years ago, and it's still going strong with never so much as a single drop of water ever getting through, and it's been out in some torrential rain storms. My only gripe is that it's a long footprint, but all in all, it's a great tent.
Nice 👍. The hexagonal footprint of this tent was one of the reasons I wanted to give this new tent a try. A bit different not having that long narrow footprint like I have with my other tunnel tents. Despite the wider tunnel it actually handled the wind better than I expect. The leaks however were definitely not ideal. Hopefully it will be an easy fix. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. ATB
Interesting tent! 2 vestibules, like my Big Agnes, great design for spreading out. You may have already answered this, but did you have Nortent seal the seams at the factory? As always, great video!
Having the two vestibules for a single man tunnel tent is definitely quite unique and it makes for a very spacious interior. The seams around the inner tent were sealed but the vestibule area was not so I’m not sure if that’s the plan moving forward from the company. Either way I would expect more testing before a product is brought to market. Everything was fine because I caught the leak early, but I would’ve been livid if my camera was underneath one of those spots in the vestibule. All the best buddy really appreciate you watching!
Watching now. Boy I wish I could get out as often as you do! Pity about the leaking but I am sure that seam sealing both sides will fix that. That food looked amazing.
It’s definitely not always easy but I try to get out at least once a month! But because I don’t always have wiggle room when picking a date that sometimes means I have to go out when the weather is not ideal. In this instance, when I wanted to test how the tent would do in poor weather it worked out quite well. Really appreciate you watching.
@@GoingSoloOutdoorsNice one. (edited my original comment since finishing). My hit rate is about 6 weeks, so I need to think of "filler videos" to produce. Your production is superb.
Thanks! Personally I would just continue making the videos you would want to watch when you have the time. I made a filler video once and in the end it just didn’t feel right making a video because I felt I needed to. It’s just TH-cam not my actual job. There are far too many channels that just make a video to make a video. Some of my favorite channels are the ones that don’t make videos very often and you can still feel the passion they put into every video.
@@GoingSoloOutdoors superb advice, thanks. I guess if you enjoy what you're doing then people will naturally enjoy your content and growth is then organic. Video makers like yourself got me into wild camping a year ago (I even go camping with one of them) and that's purely because I share their enjoyment. Thanks
Great video GS, loved it. Did Nortent comment on the tent leaking? Looks like a design or manufacturing flaw to me? I do enjoy the insane level of cooking you do! I'm just waiting for the beef wellington...
No haven’t messaged with them yet. I have noticed they are now offering seam sealing for this tent on their site. Not sure if this is to address any leaking in this area of the tent but it’s nice they are now sealing it for free though. I liked that the tent was very stable in the wind and was spacious. Hopefully this should be an easy fix as I’d like to use the tent again. Really appreciate you watching. Hope you’re having a nice week.
@@GoingSoloOutdoors Pretty sure that shouldn't happen - I would consider that a warranty fix personally. If you do seam seal if - can you do it as a video? Would like to see how you go about it. M.
Nice one. That paad thai was fab! I believe that Nortent are sending all of their future Ly 1's out factory seam sealed. But in the meantime, I am going to do my dyneema edges. I am the same as you my friend, the tent is growing on me. Plus, I was really impressed with the wind performance too.
I have suggested they do a larger inner, though, that sacrifices some vestibule space on one side. Well done on another excellent video.
Thanks man! Always nice to eat well in a beautiful place. Loved the amount of space I had for cooking in the vestibule as well. I noticed the website now says the tent will be seam sealed which I think is fantastic. My seams around the inner tent were actually already seam sealed however none of the vestibule seams were. Those seems did remain dry though throughout the entire night. I only had the issue around the Dyneema patches. Oddly enough, the actual stitching remained dry on the patches but water seems to squeeze underneath the patches. When I got home to dry out the tent, I also noticed that it looks like water had collected between the Dyneema patches and the outer tent fabric. Honestly, if the tent fabric is as strong as they claim, I don’t even see the need for Dyneema patches. All it seems to do is introduce more points for water to actually get inside, especially when the stitching is being placed under stress because they are guy out points. If I was designing the tent, I would personally move this guy out points to the vent hood like Hilleberg does and ditch the Dyneema patches. I was definitely a bit, disappointed with the leaks but overall, I was very pleased with how it performed in the wind and how spacious the inner tent felt. It was a very comfortable place to spend the night. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. Hope you have a nice weekend.
You are SOOOOO brave!
This doesn’t require bravery, just a bit of experience 👍. Appreciate you watching!
Outstanding!
Thank you! Hope you have a nice weekend 😀
Stunning spot and fantastic food what a great camp 👌👏👏👍
Atb Graham
Thanks Graham. It was nice to revisit this spot 👍. Glad the weather cooperated and allowed me to test the tent. Appreciate you watching!
Really enjoyed the video. Appreciate it.
Glad you enjoyed it! Really appreciate you watching 🙏😀
Just amazed by the countryside and your cooking skills, even without a proper knife. 😀🇦🇺
That’s very kind of you to say. I always love coming to this part of Wales it’s gorgeous 🙌. Really appreciate you taking the time to comment.
I was really craving for this tent until the big disappointment of its performance under heavy rain and wind 😢 . I know it can be seam sealed and it is now done directly from Nortent for the new buyers but I would have expect a better quality control at the source . They probably found out afterward's if they are now selling it sealed. I will wait after you test it again to see if this was a simple issue easily fixed. One thing I wasnt disappointed is the quality of your video , I alway's find them relaxing , enjoyable and educative at the same time ( we learn about gear and how to cook 😉 ) . Thanks for sharing ( hope my english is understandable 😊 )
I would have expect better quality control as well. It makes me question if the tents are even being properly tested before being brought to market. The tent I received does have seam sealant on the seams around the inner tent but not on the vestibule. So I’m not sure if they are going to be seam sealing those portions of the tent or not. I’d be curious to see the vestibule of someone who’s getting the tent after this option was made available on the website. Overall I was happy with the space inside the tent and how it performed in the wind, but the leaking was a big disappointment. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. ATB
Hi, I was looking at Nortent t vern last year. But I was put off by the fact you had to seem seal it yourself. Because of the price, it should’ be seam sealed by the manufacturer. Is this the case with this tent. also like to say great video again specially cooking segment again
I recently checked Nortents website and it looks like they now offer seam sealing on this tent for free. It doesn’t look like they are offering it on their other tents like the Vern 1 yet but it’s nice they are now giving you the option for this tent 👍. Really appreciate you watching!
You should carry a multitool(Leatherman) it can get you out of jams, it comes in handy. I Enjoyed your videos thank you for sharing.
I have 4 leatherman multi tools 👍. I absolutely love them but 3 of them are not legal for me to carry here in the UK so they don’t get as much pocket time as they use to back when I lived in the states. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment! Hope you have a nice weekend.
Instant watch!
🙏😀
It is a weird and unusual tent. Love the 3 doors and 2 vestibules. Yum, Pad Thai and....who needs a knife anyway?
The tent is definitely a bit unique. I didn’t expect to like it as much as I did. It was a very comfortable space for one. I really enjoyed this meal. Just happy the little plastic knife was able to cut it 👍. Really appreciate you taking the time to comment.
Hi, I really like your videos, it made me think about a 3-4 day hiking trip in the UK. Have you thought about sharing GPS tracking after your trips? It would help viewers who are not very familiar with UK walking roads :)
Thanks! I typically don’t like to give exact locations because I don’t want to promote the over use of particular locations. Especially in areas like this where it is not particularly legal to wild camp even though everyone still does. That being said if you look up the map for the Ogwen valley in Snowdonia you will find loads of footpath 👍. That’s where I was located for this camp! Really appreciate you watching. All the best.
Omg, it's a wonder you didn't get blown away. 😮I bet your hands were freezing. You need gloves and definitely spare trousers 👖 and waterproof boots. Glad you warmed 🔥 up. ⛺️ Great Video, Love ❤️ the Lake District. 🐑 🌳 🐐 🌴
This is actually in Snowdonia, Wales 👍. Just as stunning as the Lake District. It actually wasn’t all that cold on this trip so it was very comfortable in the tent. The gloves only come out when the temps start to dip below freezing. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. Hope you have a nice week!
I like this one man tent 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
I actually really like it as well. I had my concerns but I really enjoyed using it on this camp. It’s a very unique design and a comfortable tent to spend the night in. It’s definitely not perfect and the leaking spots need to be addressed but overall I was impressed with how it did in this weather 👍. Really appreciate you watching.
Thanks fer a great video as alkways! Really embarrasing for Nortent. Ive never seen this problems with Hilleberg or not even with Naturehike tents wich I allways use.
I was really happy with the space inside the tent and how the tent was able to handle the wind but at this price point I wouldn’t expect it to leak in four places like it did. At least the inner tent remained completely dry. I still really like the tent, so hopefully I’ll be able to fix those spots on my own with some seam sealant. But you’re right, I have never had these issues with my Hillberg’s. In heavy wind driven rain, the black breathable fabric on my Nammatj vents can become saturated and will sometimes spray water into the vestibule but only when the winds are really bad but the seams do not leak. I still think the design is very unique and I do like it so hopefully the company can iron out some of these issues. Only time will tell. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. Hope you have a nice weekend.
Good vid. Great camp due to the weather severity. Nice meal with a hidden knife. But you had it. Thai is good stuff, hot generally. New tent. It takes time. In my earl days and for several more you had to seam seal all the stiches, tie outs doors etc. You got a bottle of sealant and a syringe with the tent. Generally the seams were taped but not always. And that was top of the line expensive tents in the 70's and 80's. In the late 80's they started coming taped and seam sealed. Several hundred dollar tents then. Equivalent to a Hilleberg price now. So that should be an easy fix. Like your comment the material may not be properly attached by method. The frying pan, ceramic? Brand? Good vid. All good from east Kentucky USA. Land of all the fall colors right now. Next time.
The fry pan I am using is the jetboil summit skillet. It has one of the best nonstick ceramic coatings I’ve used. It’s one of my favorites 👍. With these silnylon fabrics the seams can’t actually be taped but the stitching methods and threads can make it not necessary. This company is supposedly using a stitching method similar to Hilleberg which should mean you don’t need to seal the seams. I have never had to with my Hillebergs. I really enjoyed the space inside this tent and was impressed with how it handled the wind but the leaks were a bit disappointing. It should be an easy fix but at this price point you wouldn’t expect it to leak this much. I bet the Autumn colors look fantastic in Kentucky 😀🍂🍁. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. Hope you have a nice weekend.
What is this a cooking show I'm out
@@BuddyCouch-c6t 😂👋 I just show my full camping experience. A guys gotta eat and I enjoy cooking.

Watching you walk to and from cameras you’re placing and collecting is jarring. Other than those occasional activities, I’m a big fan of your videos.
😂👍 well, I will probably keep walking away and towards the camera because I like that it gives a bit more perspective and a sense of scale in the environment. That being said, I really appreciate you continuing to overlook the parts of the video you don’t like and sticking around for the parts that you do 🙏😀. Really appreciate you taking the time to comment. Hope you’re having a nice weekend.
I can't believe that video was over three years ago! I seem to remember the weather was pretty foul that trip too. Always love the cooking section and the knife did make me laugh😂
I know, time flies. 😅👍 Glad I eventually found the knife! Little too late but at least I didn’t forget it. Really appreciate watching. Hope you have a nice weekend.
@@GoingSoloOutdoors Do you use pouches for bits and pieces like knives and anything else like that easily misplaced? I would recommend Vanquest, good American company for you!
@@marko9912 any loose items usually go in either my camera bag, the side pouches of my pack or in my food bag. Typically, I put my knife in the side pouch not sure why I put it in my camera bag this time around 😅. I’ve seen the vanquest pouches. They are nice 👍
I wonder if you're allowed to fish and swim in those lakes? Or are there any fish in them?
I’ve seen people wild swimming before, but I’ve never seen anyone fishing in these smaller lakes higher in the mountains. I’ve definitely seen people fishing in some of the larger lakes in the valley though 👍
There is something about snowdonia that is very special for me it's the best national park in the uk and that is saying something but it's the feel of the area
Just subscribed to your fantastic channel I follow about 6 wild campers .and let me say this your footage and love of nature is coming across very well I am now a subscribed customer😊😊😊
Thank you very much for your comment! I agree Snowdonia is incredible. Regardless of the often rough weather, I always walk away from my trips here in awe of this landscape. It’s definitely a special place. I really appreciate you taking the time to comment and supporting the channel with your sub 🙏😀. Hope you enjoy your Friday. ATB
Great video as always mate. I really wish I could get out to Snowdonia more.
The Nortent Ly 1 looks good. Those are some mighty vestibules for a one man tent.
Do you mind me asking what camera you use?
If you go to his webpage he's got his gear, including cameras listen. Assuming it's up to date at least.
@@nihlify Ah yes, didn't spot that. Thanks so much for the heads up mate. 👍
Thanks! I really enjoyed using this tent. It has a very comfortable amount of space. The vestibules are quite large. I do need to get these leaks addressed though. I used the Fujifilm XT4, a GoPro, and an iPhone. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. Hope you have a nice weekend.
Thanks!
A nice mini test of this unusual tent. Lots of headroom and it didn’t seem to move much despite that. Any idea of the actual wind speed by the tent?
This camp ended up being a nice test 👍. Around 1 o’clock, I was able to stick an arm out the vent and I got a measured speed of 36 mph, which was pretty spot on with what forecast predicted. It’s definitely an interesting design and having those two poles so close together and the inner tent perpendicular to the tunnel creates a lot of headroom and reduced a lot of the flapping I would normally experience in some of my other tunnel tents. In the strong gusts, the inner tent just kind of vibrates. Overall, I was pretty impressed with how it handle the wind. The leaks were definitely not ideal though, and they will need to be addressed but I still enjoyed using the tent.
@@GoingSoloOutdoors wow, you really surprise me with that number given the lack of flap in the video. I was imagining the ultra wide and relatively steep-ended vestibule might have had problems in strong winds. A benefit of two big vestibules will be the shelter it gives to the sleeping compartment (notwithstanding noisy rain drops 😂). I’m waiting for a Tarra to come into stock in order to get spacious, flap free tent that’s reliable in wind. I may have to postpone a decision on that until I see the Ly 1 in some more wind tests!
@@petergilbert72 that was a serious concern of mine 👍. Because you’re sleeping perpendicular to the tunnel it is much wider than many tunnel tents. I figured it would just catch a ton of wind, but it actually did very well. But that’s probably why there are seven guy out points on each end of the tent.
@@GoingSoloOutdoorsyeah. The other thing is the floor space of the sleeping area is quite small, albeit vertical sides make it all usable. The Soulo I see is somewhat bigger, surprisingly, at 20.5sq ft /1.9sq m according to Hilleberg. Given the Ly has a sleeping length of 210cm I guess in a side wind any flap around head or feet might be quite annoying. Incidentally Nortent website shows the poles as 90cm apart (compared with 110cm on a Kaitum or Keron, or a bit more on a Nammatj) so not vastly less but perhaps makes a difference.
The floor area is smaller and before I received the tent that was also a concern. But because the sides are completely vertical and the head and foot end are near vertical there’s a ton of head height and it actually feels much more spacious in the inner tent than it does the Soulo. This tent actually surprised me quite a bit on this camp, it was very comfortable inside and feels spacious. I actually didn’t expect to like it as much as I did. The vents are a bit annoying though and I really wish it wouldn’t have leaked, but with some design tweaks, this could be a really cool tent.
I’ve camped in the EXACT same spot on my channel 👍🏻🏴
Loved the Newt 🦎😅
Great video as always 👏🏻
Nice! It’s a great spot. I typically like to get in a bigger hike, but this is really nice as the days are getting shorter. Really appreciate you watching. Hope you have a nice weekend.
Hi Todd really enjoy and appreciate your video review even though im not in the market for a new tent
As for the flapping i bought some magnets of Amazon
Works like those on the Xmid
ATB to you and your family
I wouldn’t necessarily call this a review but I really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. The magnets are a fantastic idea 👍😀. I will probably pick some up 👍
Such great videos.
Very kind of you! Really happy you’re liking the videos 🙏😀
Great video…I’m waiting for my Vern 1 to be delivered any week now..been told to seem seal it before use..however you don’t expect to have to do this on such expensive equipment…I hope Nortent get back to you about this 🤞
Nice! I really like the design of my Vern 1 PC however I think the double skin Vern 1 is much more versatile. I’ve actually noticed that they are now offering seam sealing for free on tents like these new tunnel tents which is nice. Hopefully they start offering it on their other tents as well. I haven’t had a chance to contact them yet. I want to test the tent in the back garden also to see if I can re-create the issue first. Really appreciate you washing.
@@GoingSoloOutdoors yeah that’s what I’ve gone for…i like the look of the PC version from just its looks but I couldn’t live year round with it…nice to see a TH-camr in Fjallraven and not the norm you usually see 👍🏻
Love my Fjallraven clothing, been using it for many years. Once I find a brand I like I just stick with it, if it works it works 👍. One less thing to worry about.
@@GoingSoloOutdoors same here brother…had my gear for many a year doesn’t it wear well…expensive but it’s built to last….you not fancied a Fjallraven tent?
@@R33ADJ I really love my Hilleberg tents so I have invested quite a bit in that brand but I will definitely try a Fjallraven tent at some point!
I recently bought a Hillerberg Savio 3 person 4 season tent and after now been in 2 storms I also have had the problem of rain entering my tent.. But unlike your tent in my tent the rain seems to enter through the top vent cover...Still trying to work the problem..... but enough about my problem..... I honestly enjoy all your videos...
Really happy you’re enjoying the videos. I have the same issue in my Nammatj 2. The large vents are fantastic but in wind driven rain that black breathable fabric can get saturated and eventually the water will begin shaking off into the vestibule. It’s a catch 22 because that fabric is fantastic for breathability and keeping out snow drift however in windy, rainy conditions it can get your vestibule wet. But as a solo camper, if I’m sleeping in a two man tent, I can just keep my pack inside the tent with me and it’s not really an issue. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. Hope you have a nice weekend.
Sorry to hear you have had a similar problem with your nammatj 2.. I will freely admit after spending a small fortune on my Hilleberg Savio tent my dissapointment and confidence in Hilleberg being Bomb Proof is no more in the rain..
If it was just a leak then I perhaps could seal it but not sure how to control the wind blowing rain under the top vent ventilation cover....Sorry for venting to you but perhaps others on your site may be prevented spending their hard earned money on what is supposed to a bomb proof tent..And yet as strange as it sounds I do like the tent apart from getting wet .
Something else I like is the honesty of your videos . Unlike many out there who claim to risk life and limb in a slight breeze your videos have a way of sharing your experience in a way that is real at least that is how I see it... Thank you.
Cool video, as usual. I'd like to get a flat cap like the one you always wear. May I have its name and brand? Thanks!
Thanks! I wear the Ovik flat cap from Fjallraven. It’s my lucky cap 👍😀. Really appreciate you watching!
This is a great channel 👏 how much is a full einter set up going to cost me for the full set up including evrething tent sleep system cookware clothing boots ? Any help appreciated thank you
Glad you like the channel. That’s an extremely hard question to answer. I have purchased this gear over the course of many years and in different currencies depending on the item so that’s a bit too difficult to estimate. You also don’t need some of the really expensive items to start doing this. Overtime I have upgraded many things. But back when I started camping I just had the basics. You can find a lot of my gear listed with links on my website. Goingsolooutdoors.com Hope that helps. ATB
Finally watched as I have to pause yesterday, everything fine except the tent leaks, though it’s under test but not expected to leak also I did not like 3 parts for one person tent, I think better ones you have , also weight matters as every gram count and everything matters since the tent should protect everything inside including person and costly equipments like camera gear. Better to return or avoid next winter coming and because of wind the leaking area may tear off at some point. Best option is rerun or replace with different. But any way I liked the whole thing as usual. I think the company should watch this video, you should tag them, Thank you - Rams, BHX
Overall I had a nice camp. I always enjoy testing new gear and getting to use a tents that have a design that’s a bit different to what I already have. I was really happy with the space inside the tent and how it handled the wind although the leaking was a bit disappointing. I should be able to fix it but at this price point I wouldn’t expect that to happen. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment! ATB

@GoingSoloOutdoors thanks for this video😘
Great video! Definitely gained a new sub!
Would you say this is a true 4 season tent? Cheers
Thanks! It definitely has all the features of a true 4 season tent, but it’s only autumn here in the UK and I haven’t had a chance to test the tent while on a true winter camp. I need to fix the leaking areas, then only time will tell how it holds up on my trips in this kind of weather and in the snow 👍. Really appreciate you watching and subscribing to the channel. Hope you’re having a nice weekend.
@@GoingSoloOutdoors well I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for how you get on with it!
Tbf I’m mainly worried about wind stability so will be interesting to see how it gets on.
Thanks for the reply! ATB!
@@jamescross4396wind stability was my biggest concern because it is much wider than my other tunnel tents because of the sleeping orientation but it did surprisingly well in the wind. 7 guy lines on both sides definitely helps 👍
from seeing some of the close ups boot wise - they seem to look wet through, are they??? - I always wear the berghaus yeti's on the boggy stuff in the peak district over some leather scarpa boots and never get any soaking - just wondered if that type of boot (not sure what they are???) stays dry??? - great videos as always :)
These are Keen boots. There is a waterproof membrane in the boot so even though the leather gets wet and looks wet they stayed dry. However, this pair is getting very old so they can get wet if I’m in the water for too long. Fortunately the inside stayed dry on this camp 👍. Appreciate you taking the time to comment. Hope you enjoy your weekend.
Great stuff as usual! The knife did well 😂
Is the next tent Durston or Tarptent? I'm hoping it’s the Arc Dome.
Thanks. It’s actually the Durston. Personally I’m not a fan of the arc dome tent fabric or the design of the inner tent. I think those low tiny doors would drive me crazy
@@GoingSoloOutdoors Yes the doors are my main concern with it, not many videos of it yet. I have the Scarp in Ultra, I am really quite pleased with it, but in the market for a freestanding tent for winter. The Durston does look a good bit of kit, especially with it's weight, but definitely only 3 season.
@@adventures_of_a_dale yeah it’s unfortunate they are only selling it with the 3 season inner considering the tent is being shipped in mid November 😅. Not ideal. It would’ve been nice if it shipped with the solid inner first and the mesh inner came out in the spring. Oh well. I will just bring a warm sleeping bag the first time I use it 😂
Interesting as I remember the first Nortent you tested also leaked 🤔 I think I will stick with my Unna...and maybe the X Dome when they make the solid inner 🤣 Love your vlogs, thank you
I actually really like both the my Vern 1 PC and this tent but … 😅👍 you said it. I was really disappointed it ended up leaking, but it handled the wind very well and I loved the space inside. Hopefully I’ll be able to easily fix it. But I shouldn’t have to do that. The Unna is definitely my favorite tent though 🙌⛺️. I’m really looking forward to checking out the X Dome because it has that similar rectangular design. I really wish they would’ve come out with the solid inner solid option at release though. Especially since the tent is not even shipping until November. Really appreciate your comments as always. Hope you have a nice weekend.
@@GoingSoloOutdoors oh my days, I would have ordered it straight away had the solid inner been available. The fact that it is so similar to the Unna is the reason it piqued my interest.
If this is the tent you have coming then I shall watch with interest as a fellow Unna lover.
Have a good weekend too and thanks for taking the time to reply
😉👍 a lightweight tent similar to the Unna is exactly why I was so excited when it was announced. I don’t expect to be nearly as storm worthy as the Unna but a nice option when I want to go light. Hopefully when the solid inner is released I’m hoping I will be able to just purchase that separately and switch out the inner tents. We shall see, but I am very excited to checkout that tent 👍
@@GoingSoloOutdoors I don't think a tent has caused so much chatter and interest before. Dan Durston could have come up with an absolute gem here 🤞🤞
Great adventure. I like that tent and with a bit of seam sealant it should be waterproof (why manufacturers dont do this has me tossed), great meal too (and ive just pruned our Kafir lime tree) 👍👍👍
Thanks! I really enjoyed using this tent. Despite the leaks in the vestibule the inner tent remains very taught even in windy conditions and it’s very spacious. Just a really comfortable tent. Looks like they did seam seal around where the inner tent attaches to the outer fly but not on any of the vestibule seams. It should be an easy fix. I’ll definitely be using this tent again. Appreciate you taking the time to comment. Hope you have a nice week!
