      Biggest turn off for me is that every single person owns a civic and the interior is starting to feel very outdated. For got sake why are they still using that turn camera on side mirror? Just put blind spot monitoring in it already. Oh and lastly, Mazda has a true and tested automatic and civic has that god awful turbo engine that has been nothing but problem for them.

    • @henryd1981
      @henryd1981 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jamesgand828 The Civic tested in this video doesn't have the turbo. It has the naturally aspirated 2.0L engine, which is one of the reasons I'm considering the Civic Sport sedan for myself. You don't have to worry about carbon build-up that direct injection motors are prone to on their intake valves.

    @jamesgand828 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The fact that you get blind spot in the lowest trim, where as Honda doesn't even offer it at the highest trim (blind spot camera doesn't count), is a significant leap against the competition. I can't believe you get so much power as well as the tech to back it up. Might as well switch to Mazda at this point.

    Having driven both, I don't really understand why people say the Honda has responsive steering. Sure, it's better than a Toyota or a Chevrolet... but it's pretty numb (and the power steering is too boosted for my tastes). I think that too many seem to equate "quick steering" to high levels of power steering boost, as opposed to the car's steering ratio.
    Also, the Mazda does a good job in transmitting the feel of the road up into the steering wheel, however. That, and the power steering is less boosted than most other cars on the road. Maybe VW does it better, but that'd be debatable to me.

      @@ryanlittleton5615 I've test driven around 10 cars already lol. From all those cars 3 made it into my shortlist. While the Mazda is the far more modern vehicle (all around led, also greatly colour matched), has the better sound system and definitely the better resell value since it is brand new, somehow the civic is the car I enjoy driving more. Sure the whole car looks a bit quirky and not as elegant as the 3 but I enjoy the many spaces you can put stuff in, the driving dynamics, even the gauges have a bit more customisability and yes the infotainment is dated but you can use AA anyway so it is not a dealbreaker.
      As a third car I have the A3 (mainly because of the similar price and great resell value in my country) however I didn't really enjoy much of the car, except its looks, the engine and driving were complete garbage.
      So basically my heart tells me to buy the civic, however from an economic point of view it would make much more sense to get the Mazda... man idk I'll probably do a coin toss or something to decide.

This becomes even worse when you go up to the turbo engines. The question is, would you be willing to sacrifice a few MPG for the longevity of your car?

    Although I'd like see the fully optioned top trim Civic Touring sedan vs the Mazda3 AWD Premium sedan go head to head, I do see your logic in selecting the most popular mainstream buyer choices. I prefer the higher trim options since I like my bells and whistles. As a 2016 Civic Touring sedan owner, I'm blown away by the new Mazda3. If I still lived in the northern snowbelt region of the U.S, I'd definitely choose an AWD Mazda3 Premium sedan. Since I'm now relocated to the southern sunbelt, I think I would still choose a Civic Touring sedan since I prefer a touchscreen infotainment system and the better fuel economy from its 1.5L turbo engine. If Mazda ever bumps the horsepower over 200 to challenge the Civic Si, then that would be the no-brainer choice, especially with AWD.

      Only the turbo hatchbacks (180hp), Si, and Type-R require premium fuel. The 1.5L 174hp sedan and coupe require 87 octane so I'm not sure how the Civic Touring sedans fuel costs exceed the Mazda3.

    If you want a really good AWD system with 8.7 inch ground clearance, a boxer engine, steering ratio as same as the Subaru BRZ rear wheel drive sports car? The Subaru Crosstrek is a great competitior. Kelly Blue Book 5 year lowest cost to own and high resale value. Excellent CVT and even at 152HP direct injection it's still gets the job done. Has a 5 out 5 IIHS plus certificate with Eyesight safety features. The new global platform Crosstrek now has a much better than ever interior design fit and finish throughout. Very good and user friendly and responsive infotainment system. Touchscreen display with base 6.5 inch or upgraded to a 8 inch. Also above the infotainment screen there's another screen telling you maintenance reminder, tire pressure, gradation of the vehicle and other features included like weather temperature clock date and how the AWD system is working including the X-Mode feature that really works well for even tougher situations in snow, mud, and sand. Paddle shifters standard with the auto CVT. They really work well and mimic the 7 gear ratios smoothly. No drone sound or rubber band effect anymore. Honda and Subaru have almost perfected the CVT in all their vehicles. Mazda has really upped the game, but the infotainment system is not to everyone's liking and you still have to scroll through the menu to select what you are looking for. At least they now have a one button push to get back to the home page. They also have done away with the independent suspension and gone back to the old torsion beam suspension system. Which is cheaper. Many reviews have said that the steering wheel isn't as responsive in city driving turning corners. Unlike the very responsive Civic or Crosstrek. At 186 HP and same 186LB torque, many so called professional reviews have said that it's okay for power but has lost that Zoom Zoom factor in previous generation Mazda 3. All three vehicles are definitely excellent vehicles and different in many ways. It's a personal choice and you can't go wrong with any of these brands. Consumers Reports named Subaru the best company for 2019 mainly because of the new global platform Forester, Crosstrek, and Ascent 7 seater with a 260HP turbo that can tow up to 5,000 LBS. In another best company list that's put Lexus as the best company for over a decade now, Toyota, 2nd, and jumping 10 spots to 3 was Mazda. Subaru was 4th on this list. Subaru they said would have been higher on the list except for some issues with the WRX and STIs. Although, it will have a new global platform next year. Honda didn't make the top 10 because of the issue with the CRV. Although Honda says they've fixed the problem. Mazda 3 really good looking exterior and quality interior plus SkyActive engine looks great. It will be a tough choice for me between another Honda product which has always been bulletproof and I've never had any issues with. Or the best AWD system arguably with the Crosstrek or the new impressive AWD Mazda 3 hatchback. I've got til 2020 to decide. So many great vehicles to choose from. Even more than the ones I've mentioned. I've researched close to a hundred at least videos and all kinds of expert advice. Comes down to whatever you want and really like as a daily driver. One other note about the Crosstrek. It's the only subcompact class SUV that has any towing capacity at 1500LBS. That's not much, but plenty for a 14' aluminum boat with a 25hp outboard and gas, battery, and gear just shy of 900lbs

    Just walked away from the Honda, not because it’s a bad car, but because of the CVT. And, not that the CVT is bad (I owned one in my last Civic, it didn’t cause any problems), simply put - as a matter of opinion, I just don’t like it. To this end, I believe a lot more might have been said about the CVT in the Honda, or any car for that matter.

The recall was instated for the US market last month.
    "The issue involving the CR-V and the Civic has occurred in northern China where temperatures can dip well below the freezing point and when drivers of the affected vehicles drive short distances frequently.On short runs, Honda engineers believe the engine doesn’t warm up enough to help un-combusted petrol accumulated in the lubricant oil pan to evaporate."
