Had my Mazda 3 sedan for almost 4 months now and absolutely love it...Even the steering wheel alone looks more premium than the cheap looking Honda one.....
Nothing major neither in my case, but multiple small issues cost me $$$. I had 3 of them and that's it for me. Anyway, Mazda never came number 1 for reliability. The only two brand fighting for that position are Honda and Toyota.

Personally think Mazda interior is poor, but what i do know is Mazda's dont hold up well over time, the drive trains are usually fine, but the rest doesnt age well. Anyway, the Honda by a clear margin felt the best to drive.

I own since new a 2009 Mazda 3s Hatchback 2.3 liter with 184,000 miles. I have been dumping money lately for suspension parts at all four corners and a trans module. I just got back from a 2000 mile Marathon trip in 50 hours. Car ran like a champ. Did not burn a drop of synthetic oil. As for the road noise complaints LOW PROFILE TIRES, SPORTY SUSPENSION = ROAD NOISE
Great video. Would be good of you to mention the age difference. The Mazda 3 should be getting a new model next year. It's a real shame Aussie don't get a five year warranty. Here in New Zealand we do.
Smh. People favor Mazda more because it's not using a CVT like the rest. I guarantee you if Mazda started using a CVT, people's opinions would drastically change. That's not to say I don't like Mazda 3's, though. This will most likely be my next car for sure!

Just bought a Civic CV T with a 1.0 engine which is available here in the UK. It is punchy for a 1.0 turbo with 130 bhp. I think you either love of hate the looks,I love it !

Before whine about CVT it comes with better fuel mileage and direct delivery. You wont really notice much of slip because lol these arent sport cars. These are meant to be daily driven and fuel economy is a hit.
I traded in my Civic for a Mazda 3 because of that reason. Everything else was good about it, except that CVT. It drove me crazy and made the car SO slow. I had to say goodbye. It's nice to have an automatic and a super fun car to drive!

Mazda sells emotions. Most, if not all of the 3's strengths are subjective qualities: "Zoom zoom", handling FEEL, and styling. Honda Civic HB is objectively better handling, better braking, roomier, faster, quieter, and more efficient than the 3. Then again, expect the 2019 Mz3 to be a huge hit.
@@etagged That's interesting. It's so confusing when doing research. I'm presently trying to decide between a top trim used 2016-2018 Civic, Mazda3 or Camry. I can't mess with a corolla(ugly). They're all roughly the same in price. Obviously Camry is best for reliability but it would be nice to have something fun to drive and reliable. JD Power has the Mazda3 as average reliability 2014-2016 and average/below average in 2017 and 2018.
Weird that the mazda only comes with 3 years warranty there, here in the states I was able to get 7 year 100k miles on a certified pre owned for a 2015 of the same model
I shopped for both those vehicles in December 2017 in Canada. Bought the Mazda 3 Premium GT (top trim) for less money than Honda would offer me the "Sport" trim Civic Hatchback, and that's not even their top trim. Furthermore, because of the turbo, any trim higher than LX in the Civic will need premium gas only. The LX is also very bland compared to the higher trims, and offers no luxuries worth mentioning. The Civic ended up being overpriced, and Honda would not cut me a deal since they knew this Civic was very hyped up. But the Mazda's more grown up and luxurious interior won me over, and the dealer actually worked the price down for me and added winter tires for much less money than the top Civic trim, and yes that is excluding the Si or Type R. I consider those in a different segment. I have all the luxuries, sensors, etc. Only bad thing about the Mazda 3 is the entertainment screen OS, which can be switched to Android auto if you have time to do it yourself.

Honda took the effort to Integrate it in the dash. Honda is sportier and the steering wheel is kept heave on purpose to feel the engagement with the car and it is much more sharper. Honda is car for enthusiastic drivers. Corolla and Mazda are for daily drivers. boring. And between corolla and Mazda be, Corolla wins. Try comparing the handling of the cars which the reviewers in Australia always fail to and Honda wins hands down.

Cos it needs real maturity in understanding how the car handles as a whole and not just the engine alone. Honda is a global winner. Mazda is just an Aussie winner.
It should be mentioned that Car play is coming to Mazda this year (albeit Mazda saying this for a long time) I just can’t believe they still have Halogen anything and not a digital dash. For almost the same money a Golf is a much much better purchase. I’ve had a Mazda 3 MPS, currently driving a Jetta. And will move into a Golf R soon. I’ve have the Mazda 6 Wagon over anything if it had AWD though!! Why Mazda why!
This reviewer should review more appliances , there are plenty of other vacuum cleaners with fun to ride CVT "technology" ugly plasticy cabins and exterior fuglier than Fiat Multipla. 5 years old Mazda 3 still beats brand new Civic is so many ways other than some trunk space and extra 1 inch of rear legroom....

Failed to mention that the Civic doesn’t have blind spot monitors and the lane watch system is only on the driver’s side. I would much rather blind spot monitors.

let's make it clear, a camera that shows nothing but black at night/ with dirt vs. a little bright colored light that warns you. My guess is that you did not drive a 2017+ civic, yes?
you park a civic beside the Audi or Mercedes Benz, people know that is a HONDA CIVIC, you park the mazda beside them, they will be like NEW German car??? that is how the design of the Mazda really wins our heart. Also, I dont like fake vents everywhere from the Civic. If the Civic change to a more subtle and elegant, it will win the Mazda in every places, but the exterior and interior design of the Mazda really wins this by far. I haven't mention track performance like lateral G. Since the Mazda is a shorter car and quite a bit thicker tires and harder suspension. It will kill the Civic everytime it goes around corner.
But the KIA stinger has fake vents on the hood and the new corolla hatchback has fake exhaust pipes, but of course people will point the finger at Honda. Technically, the Civic still has wider tires (235), the Mazda just(205-215) has a bigger aspect ratio meaning bigger sidewalls. I've been in both. They have the same material, the only difference is the screen. Plus the sport costs as much as the touring, there's a slight difference. $22,550 vs. $21,140.
The Civic's CVT is a deal-breaker for me (and that styling, eww...), I've heard bad things about the i30's steering feel and feedback (mainly, that there's little of it), and I couldn't care less about Apple Carplay/Android Auto, so I'd most likely go with the Mazda 3 in this segment, though I'd still give the i30 and a few others a test drive for comparison.

CreoleRep7 the Mazda interior, even if a bit smaller (not an issue for me), is a class above the Civic. That was a deal breaker for me. I bought a Mazda3 SP25GT. And let’s face it, the Civic, especially in hatch form, is just plain ugly. What were Honda’s stylists thinking? Too many nights on the saki? And the Mazda now has a five year, unlimited km warranty.

warranties ultimately depend on the dealer....so finding out the reputations of the dealers of a particular make that do business in your area is key to any ownership experience. I have a kia, great car, but it has been in the shop on and off for about 3 weeks..why? becaue I am about 1200 miles away from being out of warranty apparently and it would be easier to have me pay for it all that for a tech to spent time diagnose and getting paid a lesser rate under warranty I guess....I have had issues with other makes as well so the issue comes down to the philosophy of the service department and it's manager, and the shop and it's foreman....I'd wish makers would publish the stats I know they collect : satisfaction, repair efficacy....etc.... so we can make better decisions on where to take our cars.
You're right, don't buy the 1.5T in China because they have different manufacturing standards. DI SkyActiv does build up carbon regardless of region though :)

Having sat in both i would have went the civic , For family hacks i would say they are both ok and the mazda was pretty functional inside , but for use of space and some cool features , i preferred the civic. As for looks , these are always subjective , but to me the civic looked a bit more special where as the mazda just looked like another mazda. Too each his own.

CreoleRep7 the Mazda interior, even if a bit smaller (not an issue for me), is a class above the Civic. That was a deal breaker for me. I bought a Mazda3 SP25GT. And let’s face it, the Civic, especially in hatch form, is just plain ugly. What were Honda’s stylists thinking? Too many nights on the saki? And the Mazda now has a five year, unlimited km warranty.
Civic looks cheep & has no flow in the design,& as for performance Mazda is much better

The european spec Mazda 3's servicing happens evers 20k kilometres or also all 12 Months and in Switzerland you get 5 years Warranty.
But we are in Australia.

warranties ultimately depend on the dealer....so finding out the reputations of the dealers of a particular make that do business in your area is key to any ownership experience. I have a kia, great car, but it has been in the shop on and off for about 3 weeks..why? becaue I am about 1200 miles away from being out of warranty apparently and it would be easier to have me pay for it all that for a tech to spent time diagnose and getting paid a lesser rate under warranty I guess....I have had issues with other makes as well so the issue comes down to the philosophy of the service department and it's manager, and the shop and it's foreman....I'd wish makers would publish the stats I know they collect : satisfaction, repair efficacy....etc.... so we can make better decisions on where to take our cars.

Having sat in both i would have went the civic ,
For family hacks i would say they are both ok and the mazda was pretty functional inside , but for use of space and some cool features , i preferred the civic.
As for looks , these are always subjective , but to me the civic looked a bit more special where as the mazda just looked like another mazda.
Too each his own.
