  • In this video, I will demonstrate how to knit with waste yarn so that you can place your heel once you are done knitting a sock (or, in this case, a stocking). Knitting with waste yarn is simple and not at all scary once you see how it is done!

Knitting the heel will be different on a patter-by-pattern basis, and, with an afterthought or forethought heel, is super simple mostly times as they only use very basic decreases.

I've only done an ATH once and vowed never again (following seemingly complicated instructions),but this explanation was super simple. Worth a second try - thanks!

I find using cotton with wool helps prevent the wool yarns from sticking together

    Hi Caleb,
I am not a sock knitter but I am making your Christmas stocking. I understand adding the waste yarn. However I am using magic loop. Can I have the waste yarn link between the two needles? I feel like when I get back to the heel, it will be fine because it will be on two needles and straight. What are your thoughts?

Hi, Debbie! You definitely can do that. It shouldn’t be a problem! I hope you’re enjoying knitting it! Did you get the smaller version I posted as a free pattern With purchase of the bigger one?

Thank you so much for your encouragement. I am about an inch before the heel. Great pattern. I did not get the smaller version. How is it attached to the purchase?

@@debbieleonard4214 It is supposed to be free when you add it to your cart at the same time as you purchased the larger stocking and it is supposed to be free even after you completed the purchase for the larger one if you add it and go to checkout. If you try that and it doesn't show as free, please let me know by sending me a message on Ravelry (or leave your username here) and I'll send it over :-) www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/the-little-cozy-stocking

      Hi Caleb,
I tried to purchase the pattern again but it did not give me the coupon code option. My name on ravelry is DLL0612. I was not paying attention when I was checking out the first time in regards to the smaller stocking. Thank you so much for helping me get the smaller one.
