    I've been doing it this way for years and everyone says I'm crazy. Thanks again for confirming that as a knitter, you control your knitting, not the other way around. Fantastic tip and thanks for sharing your expertise!!!

      Jeff, this is fantastic! No right or wrong ways, just ways that make sense and if something doesn't, we have the power to change it until it does. Doesn't make us wrong OR CRAZY!!!! Thanks for your comment. It helps us out here who struggle with what the majority says is CORRECT!!! Have a Great Weekend!!

    Thanks for this video! You must have read my mind. I couldn’t find any instructional videos for joining a contrast heel in a pair of socks. As a result, I was forced to knit a couple of rounds before I could start using the MC yarn again. It was my first GSR heel AND the first pair of socks with CC yarn so all in all I managed to get through it. The MC yarn presents as a pseudo stripe in many colors and the CC yarn is one of them and only an experienced knitter would notice. I’ve really learned something from this effort and we all know this kind of lesson is the best learned! Now, the question is whether or not I should knit the 2nd sock with the correct technique or the wrong technique. i will choose the wrong technique - it’ll look like a design element. ;)

    Hi. Do you have an equivalent video for toe-up socks?

    Thank you for sharing .. I'm a huge fan of contrasting colouring but hate sewing in lots of ends xx

    But the heel color yarn cuts into the main body color when you pick up the extra side stitch. It’s a noticable intrusion into the main color. With your example of bright green into dark green, it’s not the obvious, but I bet you can really see it in your brown/red example.

      I have two thoughts on this. One is that you're not obligated to pick up stitches in the corner. If you tried this, and actually found that there was a noticeable intrusion into the main color, you could use whatever trick you prefer to prevent or eliminate the hole. The other thought is that if anyone's eyeballs are that close to the corner of my sock heel while I'm wearing my socks, they'll probably end up getting kicked in the head, particularly if they comment on said color intrusion. :-)

      I asked the same question and Roxanne did reply but now I don’t know how to find the reply as it was a little time ago. I wonder if Roxanne could tell me how to please find answers to the questions she must be asked several times. It would say someone like me who forgets the answers when a few months have passed!! Many thanks

    I have been trying to figure out a way to do this for some time but of course thought that having the colors even and all matchy matchy was of utmost importance. You can't even see both sides of the sock at the same time so it doesn't matter. Thank you for yet another great tip.

    • @RoxanneRichardson
      @RoxanneRichardson  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not to mention that if you start the main color at the heel turn, you might not have the same color for picking up on each flap, anyway, if you're using self-striping yarn!

    I was worried I was going to run out of yarn on the 2nd sock and wished I did contrasting heel/toes. I will definitely do that on my next 100 g ball. Its either this or get a scale to evenly divide the ball.

      Funny, I found this video in thinking about contrast toe / heels in future toe up socks [TAAT toe up is my preferred method]. I loved this video. Toe is simple, jist start with that then change to mc yarn for foot.
      I have been using a heel flap on the bottom for extra cushioning, but was wondering about the gusset. I THINK this could still work for me based on her striped socks in the video. [Will think it through as I get to the heel on my current pair!]
