    My diesel has been running strong. Sorry about the headache you’ve been through. I noticed a loose skid plate bolt under your Jeep in your video. I haven’t been pleased with any dealership’s workmanship for years and that loose bolt and the wiring not going back into factory locations is a prime example.

    Enjoyed the video. You may have already made a decision to keep it or not. But with that being said, you seem like a smart guy, you just need to learn basic electrical/vehicle things, like the colored plastic wire covers is called insulation, a certain guage wire is rated to carry only x number of amps safety, ect. Per your vid, other than this wiring issue your gladiator has been reliable. You showed that you are willing to crawl under the truck and try and see whats wrong (great first step), now Google how to protect wiring from hot exhaust items, and protect your wiring where it needs it (wrap it in heat shield tape, reroute away from exhaust, ect). Some vehicles just need us to know more about how they work so we can better troubleshoot problems when they pop up. If it was mine, Id keep it, at least you know where the problems are. Again, thanks for posting this vid, it helps other owners what to look for if we have the same problems.

      Hey, thanks for the feedback and I fully agree with what you said. Yes, so far I’ve decided to keep the Jeep. I am not a mechanic, (clearly lol), but I tend to do most of my own work. It’s not that I don’t know how to rectify wrapping the wires but more that, if my vehicle is under warranty and I just had work done to it from a Certified Jeep Mechanic, I would have expected better results. I recently found that they removed several screws for things like the fuel tank and bracing going from one side of the frame to the other and 5 bolts were just flat out missing and 3 others had the bolt through the frame and the nut maybe 3 threads screwed on just hanging out. This is 6+ months later that I discovered this while servicing my differentials and transfer case!
      I definitely want other people to know what to look for but also to beware of, at least some, Jeep service centers and check behind them. Clearly something is missing in their training and quality control.
      In the end, I’m GLAD it’s out of warranty. Other than an extended service contract for 10 additional oil changes and some warranty stuff, they won’t be seeing my truck again for service.

    I have a 21 with 61k miles. No issues with the powertrain, I had a rust bubble on the edge of my hood near a spot weld that they covered under warranty. I had the CP4 pump replaced via recall back to the CP3. I have 37s and 4.56 gears. I get 22 MPG, been great to me.

    As the owner of an old Disco2 that takes a beating, wasn't always reliable at first but still takes me deep into the hardest Jeep trails of Arizona with only 33s and Land Rover traction control I can say those kinda problems sound like a pleasure to my at home mechanic way of life 🤣 I'm considering a Gladiator Rubicon in the next year as I build up the Disco into more and want a newer more reliable thing to easily play in at the same time. I love the idea of the diesel because of the torque and the mpg. But the Hemi is pretty tempting considering I drive a 6.1 Hemi supercharged 300 SRT8 and Hemi just has my attention. I wish they offer a 5.7 Hemi like all the other mopars. Seems weird as a Mopar product they go from the V6 straight up to the 392. Not that 6.4 is so much greater than 5.7 but still why not

    There is a wire that goes over the top of the egr tube which is the flex looking pipe coming off of the dpf filter that you are pointing to that gets so hot. That wire was touching the tube when I got my new JL. I have found others that are the same way. It is hard to reach but I made sure to reroute it with zip ties. I had to remove my inner fender to do this. I wonder if that is what happened to your jeep.

    Wow I’m actually looking at a 2023 Gladiator Sport S 3.0 Diesel. Yes they are beautiful vehicles, but like them all today very complicated. We always keep a vehicle till about 50k-60k miles before trading. Or as soon as the extended warranty runs its course. Since we had a similar fuse issue in a 1991 Geo Tracker, the first vehicle we bought new. I loved for getting my wife around in very bad snow. But it started blowing fuel pump fuses, that I figured out. But it was past warranty and turned out to be the in tank fuel pump needed replacing at $900! So I threw a 30 amp in a 20amp plug, carried a couple extra and showed my wife how to change. But traded it in very soon. If I buy the Gladiator I will benefit from your advice to get extra fuses.

      With the push to electric I wouldn’t be surprised if they did… I haven’t had any issues with the motor itself but the lack of shielding around the wiring is unacceptable. I’ve currently got it in the shop to correct/finish the work the previous shop didn’t complete but haven’t had any additional issues.
      Just some feedback on the diesel. Either way, I wish you well on your purchase. It’s a heck of a truck!

  • @raymonast4753
    @raymonast4753 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Unfortunately most of the gremlins that have popped up are electrical. Loose fuses, shorts caused by melted wires routed too close to the emissions equipment, sporadic oil leaks and now high pressure fuel pump recall with limited parts availability. That being said the onus falls on the end users …….us. We have to pay close attention and become more familiar with our vehicles than other owners. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea but my 2021 JTRD has 44k without major issues. It’s a great platform however it maybe gone in the very near future.

    Is your gladiator a 2021? You may have mentioned that and maybe I didn’t catch it. I just picked up my gladiator rubicon Ecodiesel about 3 weeks ago. It was built in 3/22. I’m going to look at the wiring now since I’ve seen your video. Wondering if they corrected any of these issue on the 2022 models. The gladiator Is still relatively new, so let’s hope they can work out all of the design issues and bugs.

    • @ichad3317
      @ichad3317  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It is a 21’ and I recently had a chance to crawl under after the local dealer gave it back to me. I was surprised to find they hadn’t fixed the issue at all. I went ahead and put the clips into place myself. It was never a hard thing to do but rather principal that they would have installed it without finishing the job.
      The reason I bring that up, is that while I was looking at the cable further I noticed that the scan tag was OVER the heat wrap. Up to this point I thought the dealer had installed the additional heat shielding when they replaced it but this may have come from the factory like that which leads me to believe they have resolved the issue in the new models.
      Still, check to be sure. It’s pretty easy to spot, just follow the CAT/exhaust. It’s either wrapped or not. Hope that helps!

    after watching your video and knowing you have 37's, not sure about a lift, your truck in still under warranty, right? all maintenance was covered. my question is, I'll planning to put a 3 1/2 in lift on 37's and Banks pedal monster. does any of this void my warranty?

    • @ichad3317
      @ichad3317  ปีที่แล้ว

      So I immediately purchased the 3.5” mopar lift and 37’s within days of owning the truck. I installed the life at 300 miles on the odometer.l for reference. To be honest, I just assumed everyone modifies their Jeep so I can’t imagine they wouldn’t cover their parts.
      That said, what I didn’t know, but know now, is that it depends on your dealership. Most are cool but a few are sticklers for the rules. Since this video I took it back in and my dealer had to replace a tie rod on the truck. That’s not a component I replaced so it was warranty but likewise, some of my suspension components that I HAD replaced needed tightening down with 30k miles and a fair bit of wheeling having been done. So that I had to pay labor for.
      I would go to the dealership service center, ask about this and gauge how they react.

    I just suffered through your whole video. Let me see if I understand your complaint and why it makes everyone's jeep unreliable. Your truck blows a fuse and you replace it. You don't get in checked out and it breaks down for the same problem again. You get it to your local dealer and accept it back again after they have done nothing to fix the problem. You then break down again for the same problem that has never been fixed. Now you are taking the chance of it still not being fixed since it requires a higher amp fuse than it should. So you are scared it will break down again. Did I miss anything?

  • @bekemeyer426
    @bekemeyer426 ปีที่แล้ว

    So no issues like this prior to a flash for the DPF? What was the recall for? I have yet to take mine in. I have had zero issues. Does the exhaust now get hotter causing the wire looms to melt? To me you still don’t have a repaired vehicle. A 60amp fuse where there should be a 40amp is a potential fire hazard. I would contact Jeep directly and demand it be fixed correctly or to refund any money you have spent buying and maintaining a vehicle that could potentially burn to the ground because of a dealer bandaid to get you up and running.

    • @ichad3317
      @ichad3317  ปีที่แล้ว

      I had zero issues prior to taking it in for the DPF. Up until this very moment I hadn’t considered it related only because of the timing. Within two hours and maybe 40 miles of driving I was broken down for the first time. Then it was sporadic after being days or weeks later.
      I see your point and unfortunately don’t have enough knowledge on what exactly the DPF recall did to know what changed. The timing was always interesting but the subsequent times had me thrown off this trail… 🤔.
      As to your other questions, I’ve since taken it back in for repair and only a few items were actually addressed as I asked. So it’s an ongoing battle.

    • @paulchoquette1930
      @paulchoquette1930 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not too sure if there is an update, but it could be due to a longer burn off after the reflash, which would cause excessive heat build up. Running diesels with the DEF is hard because of heat management. They want it to burn off less frequently to use less DEF which means that will do a longer burn off at one time. Track you DEF consumption and compare it to when you’re having issues. Just a thought.

    he likely scammed you for a new harness when he probably just cut it open, replaced a bad wire & taped it up, its probably worth keeping, its one of the issues with buying new & newer is they have not had all the bugs worked out yet, this is a design flaw with routing wires too close to the exhaust components so extra heat shielding is necessary as even if it is not hot enough to melt the wires, the plastic end connectors will get brittle crack & get moisture in the wiring causing issues with the computer properly reading sensors.

      None of them "did that" when I asked. Although my local dealership does and has in the past for basic maintenance. So I haven't had any additional electronic issues since I posted the video but the other day I had the Service4WD light pop up and then go out at two different instances. My wife then informed me of another instance I wasn't aware of so it's sitting in the carport at the moment until I gather all the stuff to swap fluids in both differentials and the transfer case.
      I read all the forums advice that it could be a fuse or something serious but I tend to think it's the fluids having not been changed at almost 40k miles. In digging around for fluid info I also stumbled on a forum where guys were saying they had changed it closer to 20k and found the fluid was low and a guy who literally just bought his and checked it and said it was low straight out of the factory. That being the case I think it's overheating due to lack of lubrication (which could be bad) but we will see.
      In the end, I am replacing my inner fender liners with vented ones, considering a vented hood, and eyeing the new 2023 ventilated grill in an effort to reduce heat under the hood. I think the factory build quality is shit all around but the vehicle itself (with checking behind the factory and staying on top of maintenance) is actually still quite good.
      Let's see if I have to buy a new differential though... my mind will change quite quickly. Someone needs to start a forum of shit the factory should have done but didn't so here's a checklist...
      Thanks for the reply though and good luck with yours... Seriously.

    • @ichad3317
      @ichad3317  ปีที่แล้ว

      😂 I am honestly and strongly assuming your making a joke here, as much as I love them, land rovers are notoriously unreliable.
      I in fact did massive amounts of research on Jeep, Gladiator, and specifically the ecodiesels history. The reworked ecodiesel for the wrangler had been out for about 18 months and the gladiator 6 months give it take at the time of my purchase. There wasn’t much to go on but everyone said the gen 3’s had fixed most of the previous years issues.
      As I’ve stated previously, the current issues primarily stem from lack of airflow, which, the 24’ wrangler just “fixed” with that new front grill. Time will tell but they obviously know there’s an issue even with the gas 3.6 getting a bit too hot when towing especially with towing being bumped on the wrangler from 3k to 5k. I have no doubt that grill will be on the 24’ Gladiator for that very reason.
      Honestly, I get your comment. Jeep isn’t know for high reliability, but it’s fantastic for off-roading and repair ability, which was my personal priority. I’m just glad it’s out of warranty so the only one working on my Jeep is me.
