I love how MatPat comments on Leia's inconsistent British accent, but hasn't realized what it signifies in the stories context. Her British accent is her Diplomatic speaking voice, used in her role as Senator of Alderaan. She uses it to give more gravitas to her speech.
hansysolo but why wouldn’t Han and Leia mention it at all? Not even an “oh by the way, you’re our daughter” I don’t think she’s nobody, but I don’t think she’s a solo either.
I don't know, Kylo Ren did say to Rey that she knew her parents were nobodies too, and Rey did not even try to argue against that. Furthermore, Kylo mentioned the detail that her parents sold her off for drinking money, which makes his statement more credible. So I'm not sure he's lying.
jj abrams already stated in the audio commentary that leia and rey never met prior to tfa: “But this moment, I think, is actually lovely and the idea that these two women who’d never met knew of each other, and they’re both Force-strong and they’re both bound by their loss and their strength.”
Why does everyone call it "Luke's Lightsaber"? It's Anakin's lightsaber. He was the one who built it and used it, and it's never referred to as Luke's in the films until Ep 7.
If you inherit it, albeit not the proper way, doesn't that make it yours? If you wanna say the original owner than sure, but he's dead. If you get a used car it no longer belongs to the previous owner.
endless3cho That analogy doesn't apply in this situation. That lightsaber had the strongest connection to Anakin while Luke's had a similar connection to his own green one. Sure he used it buts its not the lightsaber that officially helped him become a Jedi. Calling it Luke's is pretty much calling it reys cause she used it

This is a great point. As pretty much the only Jedi in existence, it's not like he was really beholden to any code. Who was going to enforce it if he messed up?
Even Obi-Wan had a girlfriend... She ruled over the Mandelorians until she was usurped from her thrown by her own people who were then usurped by Darth Maul, who then killed her in front of Obi-Wan in an attempt to break him.
Cheesus Christ it's because it doesn't fit his narrative. If it did he would have mentioned it. The purpose of the video is too show the strength in his position. Not the weaknesses.
lich5164four Rey said it, not Kylo, hr expanded on it. Also most of the hype about her parents came from the fans. Also Abrams said himself that her parents aren't in the movie.
I think in the novel they tried to correct it. In the novel, as soon as theyd landed Chewy ran off into the complex carrying the injured Finn. It then makes sense for Leia to go to Rey as she's the only one there!
Honestly looking back. It's likely they planed Ray to be Leia's and Han's daughter and Kylo's Sister. But for some reason, they changed it so that SOMEHOW Palpatine can return.
@Maria Claudia Quintana Estrada a good idea... There are several problems with it. A: his return is in no way explained. HOW did he return? The answer is, somehow. B: Putting that lazy writing aside, they completely changed his motivation. He was seeking immortality. He did everything he could in order to achieve it and put in over 100 contingency plans in case he would be defeated at some point so he may return and that his will and vision of the future will continue (creation of the first order for example). So they made him return SOMEHOW, so he, that was obsessed with immortality and total control, would want to be killed by Ray and then give up the control of the Sith to her... Yeah well great fucking idea.
@@desolation1821 i still think is a good idea. I just like it. dont try to convince with arguments, i just like it and i doesnt follow any kind logic that like
Not exactly, it's the same lightsaber Obi Wan gave to Luke in A New Hope. It was Anakin's originally, yes, but Obi Wan picked it up and took it after their duel in Revenge of the Sith.
No. The lightsaber he keeps showing in this video was destroyed in Episode 2, and Anakin made the lightsaber that Obi wan took from him on Mustafar prior to episode 3.
I have never really thought about “why” Kylo says “You still want to kill me”. Nice job 👍. And as maybe many have pointed out, the lightsaber isn’t Obi-wan’s.
That's some fine detective work you've done here. It makes perfect sense that Han and Leia would completely abandon Rey on Jakku and not utterly break down when they saw her again later. They're just cold like that.
Nihilo Zero how are they cold? They risk everything to try save Kylo, and are shown to still truly be hurt by his turn to the dark side. Maybe Han could be termed as cold but not Leia. She would have no reason to be cold to Rey after she made her way to the Rebellion. Plus, why would Chewie treat her that way too? And c3po and r2d2 as well.
Abandoning their daughter on Jakku to fend for herself is what would make them cold. It's not something they would do. I was being sarcastic. Han and Leia are not Rey's parents.
I don't buy Ben's story about Rey parents. Still think this theory has a chance. I think that Ben told Ray's parents where pesants to turn her over on his side. Remember, it almost worked
As far as I am informed, Anakin was created by Darth Plagueis with the force. So I wouldn't say, that he was a son of nobody's but of the force itself.
She used it to mock Tarkin directly when she was in front of him, to show her defiance and lack of fear. Why would she use it after his death? We've only ever heard her speak in a British accent in Episode IV, on the Death Star. And I agree, you don't inherit accents. I was disproving the small detail MatPat talked about.
Well at least his theory makes more sense than the movie did. The movie's explanation for all these aspects of Rey being so magically powerful "eh.... whatever".
Daisy already debunked her being Han's daughter in an interview after TFA. c': Also...Kylo IS a Skywalker--the family saga is about his ties to the Skywalker lineage. Also also, the timeline when Rey is dropped off and when Kylo turns to the DarkSide don't exactly match up, as Rey would have been around 13 when Kylo (~23?) turned. Neither Han nor Leia recognized Rey in the movie. I think Rey doesn't have any famous parents, I think she's a nobody. I believe Daisy's words about it being obvious refers to Maz's words to Rey back in the castle: Rey - "I have to get back to Jakku" Maz - "Han told me". "Dear child, I see your eyes - you already know the truth. Whomever you are waiting for on Jakku (her parents), they're NEVER coming back" (Rey cries; she knows they aren't) "but, there's someone who still could." Rey - "Luke" Maz - "The belonging you seek is not behind you, it is AHEAD." From these lines, Rey's parents are dead or never going to appear again, but Luke will make an appearance in her life in some way (therefore he isn't her father) as a mentor. But I DO agree that Kylo knows Rey, the movie make sthat clear. But I think he saw her in a vision, like she possibly saw him in her vision (TFA novelization). I think that part about the stories rhyming comes from the Anakin-Kylo parallels. I don't want to get too deeply into it but I do believe Kylo is the 'reversed Anakin', and I think that there's a great poetry in Rey, a no one, standing her own against this famous family line and holding her own because the Force is so strong within her. It shows that SW isn't JUST about the Skywalkers, but about something greater and deeper and cosmic. Also the balance between the Dark & Light, and the possibility of the Grey. Sorry MattPatt. c": ilu though but I'm gonna have to disagree with you here.
I agree. When I watched this theory, I just thought it made no sense. And plus, Rey was dropped off on Jakku when she was around 4-ish. How would she have wanted Kylo to be dead? And why would Kylo ask this in the first place if she didn't even know him? I would love for people to just except the Rey's parents aren't Han, Leia, Luke, or Obi-Wan's. Her parent's are just someone else we haven't see yet, or in a while. Nobody ever seems to except the fact that she herself is a new character and that frustrates people for some reason making them always trying to find a good explanation for Rey and Snoke alike.
Okay I like this theory much more although her parents could be a descendent of Obi-wans and Luke tried to train both Kylo and Rey (as a favour/repay Obi-wan) but couldn’t control them (or just Kylo) so ran away and ditched Rey... or her parents are nobody (but that’s less likely since she has the force and that’ll be a bummer).
Yeah, Iden and Del being Rey's parent's doesn't seem that farfetched after SW:BF2. Ironically 99% of all SW-fans have no clue who they are, talk about curveball.
_"Rey's parents are not in Episode 7. So I can't possibly tell you who they are at this moment. But all I will say is that this is something that Rey thinks about, too."_ *J.J. Abrams* _“What I meant was that she doesn’t discover them in Episode VII. Not that they may not already be in her world.”_ *J.J. Abrams*
Ok here is the real thing rae's mother is iden versoi from battlefront 2 story mode and her dad is Del Miko again from battlefront 2 story mode g watch theory's about that u don't even need to deduce annything it pretty mutch just says it her British accent comes from Del (his dad) iden is in the inferno squad with del the two of them turn good and manage to fight with the rebelion they win a battle and then fall in love and then a cut seen "Deckades later" witch means that they have the time to have a baby and it doesn't say how many deckades but its plural so its more than 10 years the baby is rae or rae whatever (im not good with names) then husk (ithink its his name) kills del and del says sommething like dont go after her and he daughter or just our/her daughter (whatever) refering to rae/ray and iden. hask then proceeds to killing him (hask was part of the inferno squad and he was with iden and del he simply didint turn good) for more details either play the story mode or go watch a video about the subject
Nicolas Martin HOLLYWALLOFTEXTBATMAN! Without proper sentences & paragraphs your comment is almost unreadable. You can be forgiven if English isn't your first language but if it is you should be ashamed...
What if Rey's parents ARE in episode 7, I mean, it's farfetched but remember how Obi said to Luke, " Your father was killed by Darth Vader/ aka he's died" but Luke's father, was not actually dead, he just changed. What if Rey's parents are in the movie but they're not really her parents since they abandoned her, (for good reasons or not) meaning they were her parents, yet they gave up the task of growing her up. (I personally believe it's Kylo Ren, it makes sense to me but I'm all ears for other theories!!)
Crystalina 29 Maz stated as much explicitly when she looked into Rey's eyes and saw that she already knew her parents were never coming back for her. This proves she had a biological mother and father, who are now in her past while Luke could be part of her future. Basically, Maz was trying to get her to accept that she is effectively an orphan whose parents were people we've not yet met. (Kylo is too young to be Rey's father as there is only 10-11 years between them.) Having said that, J.J.'s comment remains open to interpretation, (probably as he intended) but I think we can rule out Rey being a Solo because both Han and Leia appear prominently in TFA. However, Luke has no lines and only appears at the very end so arguably isn't really in the film - something which Hamill complained about no end! Hence, for the time being I'm sticking with her being Luke's daughter, who was spared by Ben Solo when he and the Knights of Ren massacred Luke's apprentices and destroyed their Jedi temple. Someone then suppressed her memories and hid her on Jakku (probably so that Snoke couldn't find her) - perhaps Kylo Ren or even Luke himself...but I think the former is more likely. The latest theory is that she was the daughter of a couple who defected from the Empire to join the Rebellion and ended up together on Jakku after the Empire was defeated in the Battle of Jakku, ending the war. Their story is told in Star Wars Battlefront 2. I think this theory has a lot going for it but it could also be deliberate misdirection...
My personal theory after watching all movies and the reason I despise Reylo... Anakin's dad is Palpatine. Sith lords can manipulate midi-chlorians to create life. Anakin never had a biological father. He was a miracle. Except he did have a father and that's the reason Palpatine was so invested in Anakin and Luke because he wanted to have a lineage. After reading extended universe books we know that Palpatine had another son who was a disappointment. He could have been Rey's dad as he was also hunted by Palpatine, giving Rey a brother, but I'm getting off-topic. The reason that the Skywalkers and Rey are so force-sensitive is because of the Palpatine lineage. Luke and Rey are related and that's why his lightsaber called out to her. This theory makes sense as Rey is Ben's other half. They complete both sides of the family. Rey is Ben Solo's aunt. This is why I despise Reylo.
The huge problem with this is that Rey is clearly old enough when she's left on Jakku to remember exactly who her parents were, yet she clearly has never met Leia or Han before.
Perhaps someone repressed her childhood memories to protect her? Either Luke (her father) or Kylo (her cousin) could've done this before hiding her on Jakku, which is why she doesn't know who her parents are, who she is or her place in the world.
Although this has turned out to be wrong it might have been the original plan of jj.abrams before it was all botched by the other guy. So matpat could technically be correct..
JJ set up all these fake mysteries. What's the purpose of having another trilogy where the protagonist doesn't know who her parents are? It just leads to the same moments as before, with no new message being explored. If you wanted to continue Return of the Jedi it should be because you felt that there was something missing, not because you wanted to do a remake
Someone might of already mentioned this, but Kylo Ren says that Rey is a Palpaptine, so the only way this is true is that Han Solo is actually a Palpatine
Obi-Wan Kenobi even if she was descended from you then how come obi wan never told Yoda? Why did they think Luke and Rey were they're only hope when obi wan had a possible daughter or granddaughter who carried the force?
Shes a kenobi. Matpats only evidence against it was the Jedi order not allowing relationships, yet when Kenobi was on tatuine in exile, the Jedi Order was destroyed, remember? In the Clone wars animated series, Kenobi was in love with Satine, before she was killed. if Satine had a child, she wouldn't have told Obi Wan, as it was cause great to him in the Jedi Order. (remember again, this was before order 66 and when he was exiled). This points to Sabine, a girl with a VERY similar name to Satine *wink wink wink wink* who is from star wars rebels being the best case for Satine and Obi Wan daughter. It is probable that she then had Rey.
To be fair to this video, who could've predicted what really happened? To quote NC; "Well, I know what you're going to say, "Well you weren't expecting it so it must be a good twist!" - WELL - I wouldn't be expecting it if they all turned into snowmen of George Takei, but that doesn't make it a good twist. It'd be more entertaining than this but it doesn't make it a good twist."
@@jasotpatakasu8673 People took Kylo Ren's statement that her parents were nobody at face value. Because nobody who works for the Dark Side would ever lie to anyone to psychologically stifle them if they saw them as a threat to their power, right? Also moviemakers would never use misdirection or anything like that.
There's still one more movie to go, so I think her parents are gonna be revealed in the second half of the last movie. This theory would make sense. Only Kylo has debunked it so far by saying that Rey's parents were just some useless drunks, which is pretty likely to be just some provocative shit

I guess he's not strong with the force
I don't know, Kylo Ren did say to Rey that she knew her parents were nobodies too, and Rey did not even try to argue against that. Furthermore, Kylo mentioned the detail that her parents sold her off for drinking money, which makes his statement more credible. So I'm not sure he's lying.

Why does everyone call it "Luke's Lightsaber"? It's Anakin's lightsaber. He was the one who built it and used it, and it's never referred to as Luke's in the films until Ep 7.
Marshall Thompson Because Luke used it until his hand was chopped off towards the end of the Empire Strikes Back.
If you inherit it, albeit not the proper way, doesn't that make it yours? If you wanna say the original owner than sure, but he's dead. If you get a used car it no longer belongs to the previous owner.

I think in the novel they tried to correct it. In the novel, as soon as theyd landed Chewy ran off into the complex carrying the injured Finn. It then makes sense for Leia to go to Rey as she's the only one there!
There's a lot that the writers and cast regret about that film, Mark Hamill wasn't happy that Luke wasn't present when Han Solo died.
Honestly looking back. It's likely they planed Ray to be Leia's and Han's daughter and Kylo's Sister. But for some reason, they changed it so that SOMEHOW Palpatine can return.
you know, it was a good idea at the end, but if they have planned this from the begging. They could have give hints of palpatine from the first film

This is so much better than the actual lore
Canonically, Leia used a British accent while speaking to Tarkin to mock him. Rey didn't get her accent from her then.
Thomas Tressel you don’t inherit Accents, you get them from your surroundings
True, but if she was still using that mocking tone, it would help reinforce it into Rey's head with the accent.
Wrong again
Well at least his theory makes more sense than the movie did. The movie's explanation for all these aspects of Rey being so magically powerful "eh.... whatever".
Kanglar true
Daisy already debunked her being Han's daughter in an interview after TFA. c':
Also...Kylo IS a Skywalker--the family saga is about his ties to the Skywalker lineage.
I believe Daisy's words about it being obvious refers to Maz's words to Rey back in the castle:
Rey - "I have to get back to Jakku"
Maz - "Han told me". "Dear child, I see your eyes - you already know the truth. Whomever you are waiting for on Jakku (her parents), they're NEVER coming back" (Rey cries; she knows they aren't) "but, there's someone who still could."
Rey - "Luke"
Maz - "The belonging you seek is not behind you, it is AHEAD."
From these lines, Rey's parents are dead or never going to appear again, but Luke will make an appearance in her life in some way (therefore he isn't her father) as a mentor.
Ginger Turquoise (SPOILER) Battlefront II will confirm that you're pretty much right.
1990tattoo Are you thinking the same about Iden and Del ??
Yeah, Iden and Del being Rey's parent's doesn't seem that farfetched after SW:BF2. Ironically 99% of all SW-fans have no clue who they are, talk about curveball.

(Kylo is too young to be Rey's father as there is only 10-11 years between them.)
Having said that, J.J.'s comment remains open to interpretation, (probably as he intended) but I think we can rule out Rey being a Solo because both Han and Leia appear prominently in TFA.
It's Neo from the Matrix, duh
He is the chosen one
This is why I despise Reylo.
no sorry no
Did you even watch the mortis arc? This is provably false.
The huge problem with this is that Rey is clearly old enough when she's left on Jakku to remember exactly who her parents were, yet she clearly has never met Leia or Han before.
Corner Twist But why was Rey abandoned after the fall of the jedi acadamy? Its not a coincidence
Vegard Nybakeri Maybe her parents were scared of this new evil force rising in the galaxy just a thought lol
Perhaps someone repressed her childhood memories to protect her?
Either Luke (her father) or Kylo (her cousin) could've done this before hiding her on Jakku, which is why she doesn't know who her parents are, who she is or her place in the world.
TheShreester I wish someone would repress my childhood
I have another shot. Amnesia, caused by the events in said Jedi Temple. (Maybe, it wasn't Kylo, who destroyed it ;) )
Although this has turned out to be wrong it might have been the original plan of jj.abrams before it was all botched by the other guy.
JJ still wrote TROS, so I think it can be concluded that the sequels were just a mess.
Will the third theory be the charm?
