With an estimated budget of $400 Million and even more reshoots on the way, this film is shaping up to be one of the biggest disasters since The Marvels.
they turned bucky into that unlockable boss character that is no where near as powerful he was when you had to fight him.

Honestly a REAL OG thunderbolts movie would have been awesome, was a fantastic concept. I don't loathe the "Marvels answer to suicide squad" version either. But I always thought that the original premise was cool.
I might not hate the MCU thunderbolts as much as I suspect, but it's gonna be hard for me to root for the obvious swaps schlops and shit ones. No amount of john "He did nothing fucking wrong" walker. Will change that.

The real failing of TFWS is the HUBRIS of forgetting that the audience were either comic fans, MCU fans, or normies who had already seen the characters and interchanges (like the CW move your seat thing). Instead we got Bucky nerfed and Falcon turned into a pompous @ss. I actually hurt for the actors. Meanwhile even Zemo's valet had more fun.
I think it's funny that no one is mentioning the fact that Bucky is ALSO a super soldier like Cap. Falcon is just a dude.

I was looking for this comment. This is immediately what I thought when they they passed the shield to Falcon. He is not super in the MCU. Red Hulk punches Caps shield one time with a regular dude holding it dudes arm is going to be torn off.

I stopped caring about marvel and star wars long ago. The reaction vids are way better than anything we will ever see from Disney.
I realized that too - once they prized Star Wars out of George's grip they stopped caring about the overall brand image, only about how they can prize the las red cent out of fanboy's wallets in the theatre and Disney subscriptions. As for Marvel, all comic accuracy is out the window which is ironically backfiring for them now - "You're kind of joining at a low point" as Deadpool said.
I still have a hard time saying goodbye to Star Wars... I had a two day fever because of how disappointed I was at episode 9... And then it kept getting worse.
Let’s face it, the reviews for this movie are gonna be better than the actual film.

Literally, I remember when I used to get stressed out by how far away an awesome Marvel movie was from its release, nowadays it doesn’t even phase me anymore.
It's still a spectacle just not in a good way.
I just look forward to the drama, cope, crying, namecalling from the studio and assorted victims - and then the hilarious youtube videos reviewing or responding.
Far more entertaining and cheaper than going to see it - plus you get to support your favourite creators, instead of giving money to people that hate you.

Yea, that was the thing, it was a spectacle. Iron Man felt huge with the effects. Now effects are so trivial that they get smushed into every movie release. It didn't help when Marvel kept uping the effects ante until every fight scene was an ioverblown and incomprehensible mess.

One of the things that bothered me the most about FATWS was how sam kept acting like he was somehow morally better than everyone by not taking the serum. Literally would've done nothing but even the playing field against his enemies and give him a better chance at saving civilians and doing his job, but no 'super soldier bad'😐😐

Bucky makes more sense narratively to become the next Captain America. He's biologically younger than Sam Wilson, has the man out of time element that makes the character interesting, is a super soldier, and has had a complete character arc moving on from his time as The Winter Soldier. Going from Cap's sidekick, to a villain, to an anti-hero, and finally to the next Captain America would've been perfect.
Bucky was a super interesting character, and I wish we would explore that side him. I mean he cant walk around with his head down depressed and just be forced to come help when everyone is screwed can he?. He was bad ass, and a good brother to Capt America... they threw him in the trash.

Captain America 4: Saving Agent Carter. Where Steve Rogers spends his time saving Peggy Carter's behind all while trying to keep his identity a secret because he is still on ice for another 50 years. You could even tie in the ending to Endgame as he does all of this before knocking on her front door and dancing with her in her living room.

There were a couple of movies and even shows that I liked after Endgame, but it became not only an increasingly bloated franchise but too many of the movies were mid or bad enough to shadow any of the decent ones. All that to say that you are right.
The story was concluded. It was called ENDGAME, it’s over. They should have had a real plan with a new storyline instead of half-assed continuations of multiple weaker storylines and an even less inspired Secret Wars attempt.
But whatever. Just don’t watch the shit if you don’t like it.

So ... I never thought Falcon was cool. They took a regular guy, strapped some metal wings on him, failed to give him a real backstory, and called him a superhero. Now, they've given him someone else's shield, and we're expected to pretend that he can match the heroics of a super solider (like Bucky). It just feels unearned.

Falcon not getting an in depth backstory is by far the biggest blunder in the mcu. He was a pararescuemen (the hardest sf force in the us) lost his closest friend on a mission and became a counselor for vets. If they just dedicated an episode in his tv show about his backstory it would have been easier to get behind his character
I agree. Especially since he has a similar backstory to Steve Rogers in the sense of losing their best friends in the line of duty.
Not to mention Bucky is a super soldier... like Captain America. Falcon is just a guy with a vibranium shield.

Ahnd Falcon was never much in the limelight or given much character depth for the roll of someone representing an entire countries base ideals, Captain America. He isn't a shallow character or a bad one by any means, but he's nothing near Steve Rogers, or honestly Bucky either... I don't like going straight to these kind of claims, as it's a bit tired in the western culture landscape today, but making Falcon become Captain America really did feel like it was primarily about Falcon having dark skin, and it being a giant virtue signal, more so than it was for Falcon's character.
And batman's just a guy with gadgets, yet he gets glazed constantly. Make a better argument.
And he's already got his own distinctive set of powers in his wingsuit.
An indestructible frisbee doesn't do anything that he hasn't already got with his missiles, drones etc. so it's REALLY obvious that it's only intended to be symbolic.

The reality of the situation is they shoulda got that together and been each other's Steve Rodgers and became battle buddies in his absence filling that void for one another and keeping each other accountable and on the straight and narrow (the same as a proper armed forces battle buddy).

Rewrite is the call of someone who doesn't like getting their hands dirty. Uncle Bob knows rewrites never work out.
@@dsmyify there is nothing to get dirty about if application architecture does't meet non functional requirements and introducing any new feature takes 3x times it would need in normal conditions. Over my career i successfully rewritten 5 startups apps into modular, fully extensible software, and one Automotive ERP with lot of ISO logic underneath with 100 views in MS Access, where access to things was hardcoded by people names. With modern frameworks and patterns rewriting is piece of cake.
Same story as an attorney. You can tell your client, "this is stupid and you shouldn't do it" but, like children, they assume they know better and you're just an over-cautious fuddy-duddy they come running to when their idiotic plan blows up in their face.

TV shows and movies have gotten to the point where I've stopped watching basically everything because reviews like yours offer more entertainment than they ever could
i remember when falcon and the winter soldier was over, it was announced the same writer and director would be making the fourth movie and i immediately cringed and knew we were in for it and it wouldnt be good. sometimes i hate being right about Marvel
It's not just Marvel. I believe that people are also getting tired of all the superhero stuff that studio's keep pushing out even while they're out of original idea's and are trying hard to push some kind of message into their crap.
The last 5 movies i've seen i practically knew the plot and the ending within the first 5 minutes. Take wolfs as an example, i knew within a few minutes in the hotel scene it was a setup. If writers have no original idea's, and some 'community' tries to push an agenda through, and the studio's try to please everyone, you know it's going to be bad.
Hubris. And that always ends the same way.

I attended the test screening, I don’t know what everyone’s whining about. When Captain America, Aladdin and Jasmine started singing “A Brave New World”, the audience went into a standing ovation for twenty minutes and everybody cried. Truly stunning and brave.

You are definitely right on Bucky! He definitely should have gotten the cap mantle! That would have made the story so much interesting! He’s really complex and tortured soul who’s been though a lot. The scenes with bucky trying to get over the past and move forward always get me teary. We are all a little broken trying to put the pieces back together.
Bucky is the best character in the MCU and I'll die on that hill. He's TOO good a character for the MCU, frankly. He should just get his own standalone movie at this point.

I'm a whitw dude, and my favorite Marvel movie is STILL Blade. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the MCU films I watched, but Blade still outshines them in my opinion. Knew the canonical lore of him being the next captain america eventually and... fantastically tied it into a fucking slick "villain flex" AND a nod to that upcoming storyline. When he straight up caught the shield and immediately stared steve down after he did it. Which up until then NOBODY had been able to do. Showing clearly, without any exposition. That it obviously wasn't just his arm that was enhanced as part of the winter soldier program.
THIS was right on the back of a great chase scene where steve is literally fucking parkouring along internal walls and fucking steamrolling through wall/doors, reinforcing yet again in the movie. Steve is fucking JUICED because of the serum and almost beyond human.
It's kinda fucking ruined by the tope of "Bad guy jumps off rooftop then disappears" which is funny but worn out. But the rest of that scene, was fucking awesome.

I remember at the end of End Game everyone thought Cap was going to give the shield to Bucky. And when he gave it to Falcon, nobody clapped, nobody cheered. Instead there were audible gasps and a lot of people going huh, weird, why. One guy even shouted this is bs. Nobody in the audience liked that decision, which was proof enough that Disney did not care what their audience liked, only what message they wanted to push on them
Along with all the excellent points why Bucky would have made a more logical choice for successor, is the fact that he also was dosed with the super soldier serum. So he’s like Cap in strength and indestructibility. Sam simply isn’t; he’s a human who never had super powers. But just like Black Widow, they’re forgetting that and going to have him do unrealistic stuff anyway.

If you have to re-write and re-shoot your movie because of "cultural changes" over the course of a year or two, then your movie was too far toward the edge of the socially acceptable window to begin with. Most movies from a century ago still fall within the acceptable window, even in times as insane as our own.
Well, to be fair, if they would have a that full on Israeli outfit, I can see how that could anger certain group of people and boycot the movie result in loss of profits. Its like when GTA 3 was being developed and it was supposed to be New York but then got changed to a vague Liberty City after the terrorist attacks on September 11.

Building off of your (correct) comments about Bucky deserving Captain America's shield and mantle, the original title "New World Order" would've fit the Bucky espionage thing PERFECTLY, because that was a common slogan used by HYDRA during World War 2 and the modern day, and Winter Soldier was HYDRA's top assassin, which connects everything back to Bucky BEAUTIFULLY.
The shield grab, the arm, the serum, the name... there is NO WAY they didnt kick out Bucky in the last second. He was perfect for the role.

This is kinda sad, because Captain America: Winter Soldier is actually the movie that got me into the MCU. Aside from Iron Man, I thought most of it was shlock, but that first Russo Bros movie totally changed my mind on the quality that these movies could have. Who could have thought that 10 years later, the franchise would be nothing but a shell of it's former self, waaay past its high point both in terms of quality and audience interest.
I think everyone recognises just how damned fucking slick and well written winter soldier was. By no means the greatest thing to ever be made, but for a fucking cape flick?

From a production standpoint, the biggest problem with Falcon as Cap is his wings. His ability to fly makes the sky his battlefield and that balloons the budget, whereas Cap was literally grounded so they could do a lot of practical fight scenes like the elevator fight or the staircase fight.
If your dumb you get best of both worlds he can’t fight on ground or sky he has versatility that cap didn’t have just a less version on hulk lol 😂

I remember the reason I completely dropped out of the Marvel Subreddit was because, among other things, I pointed out that Bucky Barnes was the absolute perfect choice to become Cap's successor, for most of the reasons the Drinker laid out in the video but also because they had spent years building towards it (before the Falcon tv series). I mean it wasn't so much an easy lay-up as a complete slam dunk. But no! They had to go with Budget Basement Will Smith and his attempts at snark.
I'm likely not going to watch this movie but I will enjoy watching the critics absolutely blast this movie to the ground.
Oh and fun fact, there is a possibility this movie does make it to the record books though. At a minimum cost of 375 million USD, Cap 4 would be somewhere near the top 5 most expensive movies ever made. Presuming it earns a fairly respectable 400 million USD world wide, it would go down in history as one of, not the absolute, biggest flops in cinema... So congratulations, I guess?
Lastly, let's also remember that not only is Red Hulk the main antagonist, he's played by a jaded octogenarian Harrison Ford, who (probably) wants nothing more than to finally get a good night's sleep and not having to get up every 3 hours to pee.
